2003 Anti Best Software Virus Questions asked

Resolved Question: How can I fix my computer? Can you take a look at these problems? Can I fix this myself?

I started getting these annoying adware messages. You need to sign for some anti-virus software. It appeared very time I logged on to the Internet. It was so annoying. I got desperate. I opened my Task Manager, went to Processes and began to End Process anything that looked unusual or weird. The adware went away but so too went several of my short cuts to programs. Now I cannot access the internet through Internet Explorer. I have to use a a window called watch.wtc to get into the Internet. My webcam not longer works on Yahoo Instant Messenger and MSN Hotmail. I used to be able to use Instant Messenger on its own. Now it only works on my Yahoo and Hotmail emails and I no longer have webcam option which really sucks. Several of my free music software programs I downloaded are no longer working. I have thought of taking my PC to Best Buy and have the Geek Squad work on it. I will get an estimate from them of how much the repairs will cost. If that is too much, I will see what it will cost to wipe the hard disk clean and then just put the entire PC in the dump and get a new PC. I could also just leave the PC as is and get a laptop and a wireless router. The stupid thing still works its just that my webcam is gone and the music software is gone Now I can't convert my cassette demos on to MP3. I was also chatting on line with some women in Canada and elsewhere that would cost me a fortune to talk on my cell phone. Those girls were really cute and now my webcam doesn't work and this really sucks! What should I do? I have tried to load the recovery disk that came with my Gateway computer and the PC will not load the Windows XP disc that came with the PC. I never made a recovery disc myself for the PC. I have a Gateway from 2003 Windows XP. It is too old to upgrade to Windows Vista which is what I need if I were to purchase any descent music recording software like Cakewalk. I have Audacity. Should I say I "had" free Audacity software but now it's no longer working. What can I do? Help! more

Voting Question: Should I stick with PCs or get a Mac insted?

My 2003 Hp PC desktop has come down with a massive case of viruses and is practically unuseable. Everytime I start it up it freezes or the screen goes blank. It was an OK computer at first but the last couple of years were terrible. I now have to resort to my iPhone for email and what not. Never owned a mac before but I heard they are better with viruses. The anti virus software on the PC actually caused the viruses and firefox. It's a shame that it almost unusable because I just got new memory cards for it. Should I bring it to best buy and have them clean it out although it is an old computer and it could get pricey or should I get a brand new one. If so what would be a better bang for my buck. A mac or PC? more

Resolved Question: Do these specifications match up?

I have to purchase a laptop computer for my daughter, she is going to a Catholic High School in the fall. She insisting on a Mac, but I am not familiar with the specifications. She wants a Mac Book Pro 13-inch. Do these specifications match the ones on the Laptop? •Intel Pentium M processor 1.60 GHz; DVD/CD- RW drive; 504 MB of RAM, Microsoft Windows Vista, 1394 Network Adapter; Intel Pro/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection; Marvell Yukon 88E8036 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller; Microsoft Office 2003; Updated Anti-virus software; Updated Ad-aware 1.06 Spyware; a USB drive storage device. Must be campatible with Microsoft Vista Software. If not, is there any macs that do match these specifications? If not, which Dell of HP computer would be best with these specifications? Please, if this can be answered by you, please take the time. We need to get the laptop A.S.A.P. Thank You! more

Resolved Question: Cannot install softwares after pc has been reformatted.?

I reformatted my pc because an anti virus sent me a malware after having been ignoring their notification that my antivirus reg.key has been blocklisted. I believed it was the best way because i've tried repairing my windows and removed almost all my applications but still, i got the same problem, when my pc boots up, it always stop at the wallpaper WITHOUT the desktop icons, even if i press ctrl-alt-del to open a program, i cannot open due to some error like "RUN AS DLL APP", "DAEMON TOOLS INITIALIZATION O" etcetera.. So, i reformatted my pc, after installing all the required drivers,, i cannot install softwares like yahoo messenger, corel, photoshop, scrapbook arts, lan games, and even downloaded softwares.. (as a note; my cd installers are the same CDs ive used before, some of them are new, and the downloaded softwares were updated and safe from virus from trusted sources) The only software applications that i successfully installed were the Microsoft Office 2003, my antivirus and the downloaded CHIKKA application.. That's my problem, there's always this problem promted whenever im tryin to install softwares whether from CDs or downloaded softwares,. there's this SAME ERROR: here's the error message: ERROR 1305: ERROR READING FROM FILE.(followed by the file name of the software being installed) VERIFY THAT THE FILE EXIST AND THAT YOU CAN ACCESS IT. After my long story,.PLEASE PLEASE help me guyz, I preferred to tell all that has happened to my pc for you guyz to know exactly the problem and solution.. I did the system restore but the same problem occured..As a note, I have two CD drives one LG and one SAMSUNG, both 22x.. But I oftenly use LG because its faster.. Before I reformatted my pc, it prompted a Blue screen error during the time that i cannot boot my pc that will show the desktop..That's also another reason why i reformatted my pc.. Resolved Question: Can someone advise me on this network setup?

As storage is my main emphasis in this network (I plan to have 2 Terabytes of data total and I would like to have a backed up copy of this size as well). I have decided to go with the following configuration but just want to see about good recommendations. I haven't bought any of my products yet but here is my idea of a small business network for 5 people with 2 printers, 1 scanner, 3 desktops, 2 laptops: modem--> wireless router --> switch --> pc's, printers, server, scanner, wireless access point My products are as follows: Router- Belkin N+ $100 http://reviews.cnet.com/routers/belkin-n... Switch- 3com officeconnect gigabit ethernet switch w/POE $400 http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,229... Server- PowerEdge T100 $1800 Quadcore Intel Xeon X3220, 2.4GHZ, 2x4M cache 4GB, DDR2, 800MHZ, 4x1 Dual Ranked DIMMS Microsoft Small Business Server 2008, Standard Edition with Media SAS6iR(SATA/SAS controller) RAID 1 2x160GB hardrives SATA 3Gbps CD/DVD Drive Onboard Single Gigabit Network Adapter 1yr warranty 1removable hard disk cartridge 80gbnative/160 compressed Pc’s/Laptops- All meet 802.11 n standard Buffalo Terastation Home Server NAS (2TB) $750 http://reviews.cnet.com/external-hard-dr... WAP- 3COM AirConnect 9550 http://www.3com.com/products/en_US/detai... My network is for a small doctor’s office and I am certain it will not grow beyond 5-7 people. I will also be using cat 5 wiring, Kaspersky Anti-virus, and I am thinking about using either Microsoft Ftp publishing (comes with Windows Server 08) for file transferring and maybe Filezilla or WinSCP for remote access The odd thing is that my main software program (EClinical Works) specs a minimum of: Quadcore Xeon 1.4 Ghz, Windows Server 2003/2008, 4GB of memory, at least 16GB (OS) + 30GB (Data) But the oddest thing is that they say the server with this EClinical software shouldn’t run an active directory, RAS, and/or terminal service. Will I need two servers because the one with my software on it doesn’t want an active directory run on it? I’m also a little confused about how the file sharing will work with the Network Attached Storage device, does Windows Server have something in it to implement this? Also from a security standpoint what would I need to address in Windows if I have a NAS, will Windows file sharing be secure between the users/server/clients? My point with the NAS was to save money and separate the data from the server processor (only OS+apps)…also the cheapest servers on Dell have about a 2.4GHZ processor and a 160GB hardrive for about 1600….would buying a nice desktop and putting Windows Server 2008 on it be a better option?? I looked on cnet.com and certainly found that the Buffalo Terastation Home Server NAS (2TB) is my best option...but its uses mirroring and spanning instead of RAID and its write performance is slow due to its RAID 5 configuration. Should I be concerned? The biggest point is that I want my system to be low maintenance, easy to setup, and my switch to be un-managed (aka no IT expert needs to be around to configure the ports…etc)I've heard that the remote device can be a security issue....but I've looked around and it seems difficult to find a server (such as from dell or HP) that has 2 Terabytes of redundant (RAID 1) hard drive space. Also how much onboard memory would I need to have on one server that would someday have 2 Terabytes of memory...wouldn't that be really expensive? I also thought separating the data from the OS+apps would result in better performance and a server that is easier to manage and the server wouldn't have to cache data storage. The NAS emulates a windows share (CIFS). Also I will contact the software company about the active directory thing because I don't want to have to buy two servers that ridiculous. more

Resolved Question: What is the best anti-virus software available for free?

My free subscription for Norton Anti-virus (the newest one) ran out recently, so I am left without virus protection! I have a cd with Norton Anti-virus 2003 but my laptop says that it is not compatible. What is the best Anti-virus software available for free?Oh yeah I forgot to mention I run on Window's Vista Home Premium OS more
