Resolved Question: Is this too much to pay for a good gaming laptop with lots of nice perks (updated post)?

$1700 (this price includes tax and shipping) - I asked this question before but I wasn't very specific. So I copied and pasted the specifics for the laptop below. Okay I got brand new netbook today . It is Dell mini 10 with window xp home sp3 When I turn on the laptop to check up this netbook. then I delete some programs such as Mcafee, Microsoft comp.pack, cyberlink DVD and some useless crap. then I finish deleting the program and installing program such as Avast anti-virus, Firefox, Microsoft Office 2007 plus pro then I was done and click shutdown. it was so long to shutting down and it refuse to be off. i kept trying to click shutdown a lot and it still shutting down. any advice???? more

I have Windows Vista on my Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop computer. Sometimes I will be on the internet and suddenly I won't be able to click any links. If I'm playing any online music or looking on YouTube, my videos or music will stop. Then the browser will fade into white and will display a Not Responding message in the top banner. Then one of two things will happen: a) the browser will come back, and will freeze again once every 30 seconds (not exaggerating), or b) the whole computer will freeze, and when I press Ctrl-Alt-Del, I will get a "Failure -- security options" box. Occasionally, this also happens with other applications, like Microsoft Office 2007. I have heard it suggested that this issuer may be due to a conflict between my anti-virus and my spyware check. I have McAfee and SpyBot, respectively. But on my past computer boot, I never had any issues. Ideas?? more

It just got slow all of a sudden last night and is still slow today. When I type the words don't appear immediately. Everything takes a long time to load, like the internet or a video on YouTube. The laptop is running Windows XP with SP 3. It's a 2006 Lenovo 3000 N100, but I've only had it for a little over a year. I've run virus tests with McAfee and the Yahoo Anti-Spy and got nothing. Also there's this Windows Internet Explorer Error Report that comes up saying IE had to close, and asks if I want to send an error report. But I haven't used Internet Explore (2007) ever. I own a Toshiba Satellite A135 laptop which is a little over a year old. Recently I have been frequently encountering this message: Windows Internet Explorer (Not responding) This program is not responding. It then gives me the option of closing the program or waiting for it to respond (waiting does NOT make it respond, so I have learned). The programs this happen with are AIM (the most major problems are with AIM), Internet Explorer, and Windows Explorer (the taskbar which often doesn't respond and i have to restart the taskbar), but it happened with Word once or twice, too. I scan my computer about every 2 to 3 wks (I know, i should do it more) using McAfee and Spybot Search & Destroy. I used to use Ad-Aware 2007 until about a week ago when this message started coming up: System error: 1810 has occurred. Description: Service is not online. Application terminates I don't know if this is a problem with my computer or with Ad-Aware the program, but it's unfortunate because Ad-Aware is way better than McAfee and Spybot at finding viruses. I'm somewhat certain that this is a virus, but I'm not experiencing any other problems other than occasional slowness and Internet not loading. It just does the loading thing forever and never loads and I have to open a new window. What should I do? Any recommendations of anti-virus programs that really work and are safe?? (8504,4) Does this mean I am no longer protected? What's gonna happen to my computer??? The little icon on the task manager bar wont load, and when I click the icon and the start up... NOTHING. I have Reg Cure, which scans every morning automatically. Although, I say repair every time. Every morning it still has over 100 errors??? I also have Reg. Mech. which I paid for also. Also, MozilI have Ad-Aware 2007 & ATT online protection which are free. Which I don't use every day. Yesterday I got this pop up from Internet Explorer for XP Antivirus 2008. I did a scan and it said I had problems. The cost was $49 a year, plus $9.95 a month. Doesn't make sense. But, I get this pop up all the time, and it says at the top of the window...Windows Security Center. And this morning McAfee wanted me to do an update, which I'm sure they wanted money too. SO, what is the best way to go. I also go to Internet Options and clean up my temp. files and cookies. Why can't I run a scan and when it finds errors or problems and I say repair...then these problems should be gone. I have about 2.38GB free space on my hard drive. I also do a defrag. once in awhile. All suggestions are helpful. Thank you more

Voting Question: How can I totally remove Norton Security and Anti-virus (2007)?

My ISP gave us McAfee and I needed to remove Norton, which I did using Add/Remove programs. It looked like it was removed, but it wasn't really and now it keeps trying to do stuff to my computer and makes it run all the time. I later found out Norton has a special tool you need to use to remove their program, but to do that you need to be able to access the program in the computer which I can no longer do. My computer has become a real pain to use, and I'm thinking about reformatting the hard drive to get rid of Norton, but I'm afraid my gigapocket tv software won't work correctly after I reinstall it. more

Hi, I currently have Ad-Aware 2007 for my spyware detection and it works great, but i have yet to come across a descent Anti-Virus software...I had AVG Free Edition but it never found anything [maybe i have a clean computer, but the ad-aware found stuff] I un-installed AVG because it was a pain in my butt to have to download something new for it every day...i then downloaded avast! virus system....I HATE IT.... Does anyone have an opinion on what to get? Thanks I prefer it to be downloadable[and free] on cnet.com because i trust that site...but if other sites are suggested, I am open to ideas ps...I have windows vista [premium] on a toshiba satellite notebook...It came with McAfee but the trial is up and i dont wanna pay 69.99 for another year of it.... thanks again ~John more

I have had Avira Antivirus (along with SpyBlaster, Spyguard, and Superantispyware Free) running on my computer for a few months until I was able to buy a program. I recently purchased (but haven't opened yet) Kaspersky Antivirus. I also found out in the same day we are getting Comcast internet which can come with McAfee Security Suite. I want to go with whichever has higher detection rates of viruses, spyware, malware, etc. (keyloggers are what I am especially concerned with). I haven't had much researching these issues on the internet. Kind of a weird comparison since one is only antivirus...but any advice on what to go with? I think if I went with McAfee, I would still buy an anti-spyware program to go along with it, like Counterspy. And I am not trying to be mean, but please don't bother suggesting AVG or Avast or Ad-Aware 2007 or the like. I just finally got rid of Ad-Aware because it is so awful to use anymore.Custom Computer- I have tried, or rather attempted, several online scans but unfortunately they never want to work. I don't if it has to do with the fact that I am still on dial-up or what. I just tried to run a McAfee one on the Comcast page and it keeps telling me I can only use it with IE 5.0 or higher. I have 7.0!patrick b- whether you are being smart or not, I still doubt it's the best. Due to my good experiences with Avira (it has picked up a few malicious programs from drive by downloads and everytime I sign into the atrocious PeoplePC, it detects the trojan trying to be executed; it also picked up several programs on my sister's computer that Norton missed), a paid Avira Antivirus is also in consideration. The only reason I am moving away from Avira free is because I want something that does more. I forgot to mention that I am not just looking at detection rates, but at how the programs are with system usage. I don't want a system hog. more
