I have an HP Pavilion a6334f desktop PC, with Windows Vista 64-bit. Every once in a while, the caps lock, num lock, and/or scroll lock will randomly blink for some reason. I use Avast anti virus, and Im always careful about going to any suspicious sites, so I don't think its a virus... Hi, I have recently purchased a laptop and I got Norton antivirus for a trial period of 60 days. Once Norton expires I am thinking of having following FREE antivirus software on my machine: avast anti virus Ad-Aware Spybot Comodo Internet Security (Firewall). Is it worth having all these installed on single laptop. Is it going to slow down my machine. I've 4GB RAM, 320GB Hard disk, 512 MB NVIDIA graphics card with windows 7 OS on my laptop. Any suggestions on protecting laptop from virus are welcome. moreOpen Question: Double Anti-Spy Problems?
Recently, I was attacked by the Vista Internet Security 2010 virus. To get rid of it, I did a System Restore to an earlier date before the virus attack. It's gone now, but now my own anti-virus program is acting funny. I have Avanquest's Double Anti-Spy and while active defense is enabled, I can't run anything, because it says whatever I'm trying to open is a known bad file, and proceeds to quarantine my action or something... in order to open any file, I have to disable Double Anti-Spy's active defense. I know it's not very good to have two anti-virus software running at once, but I decided to download MalwareByte's Anti-Malware and run a scan, and it came up clean. Then I uninstalled it and downloaded Avast! to check again and still nothing. Lastly, I let Double Anti-spy run its own scan, and nothing. For now, I'm keeping Avast! to defend my computer since I can't use Double Anti-Spy right now. Has this happened to anyone before and does anyone know what to do about it? moreOpen Question: I have a anti-virus system called avast! on my pc.I go to some sites and it tells me that a virus has been?

I've been struggling to fix a virus that I got while downloading an episode of one my favorite Japanese T.V. shows online. It was causing the following problems: 1. Redirecting searches to ad pages. 2. Slowing computer 3. Preventing me from opening Task Manager. (Would say disabled by administrator) 4. It removed my desktop. 5. Popped up annoying Anti-Virus alerts. 6. Wouldn't allow me to run system restore directly. I took the following measures: 1. I ran a safe mode scan with SuperAntiSpyware and removed Trojan/Gen and Rouge.Antivirussoft. 2. This didn't take care of everything, so I ran a triple scan with SuperAntiSpyware, Avast Free Edition and MalwareBytes in regular mode. It exposed a the hi-jacker that took over my desktop wallpaper and Task Manager. It also exposed a few more Trojans. 3. Everything seemed fine, but then it started to redirect my searches to ad-sites again after a few minutes. I then tried to open system restore and it read: "System Restore cannot protect your computer. please restart and run system restore". I instead ran system restore as a "Run as" and set the point back a few days. When I rebooted the computer, nothing would open up on the desktop. No Icons would appear and the Task Manager read that all processes were 0. I rebooted in safe mode, undid the restore point and am stuck with the redirecting to ad sites. I'm pretty sure this is some kind of rootkit. Does anyone recognize it and know how I can get rid of it? Thanks! moreOpen Question: Is Avast better then outdated Norton Anti Virus Program.?

Hello Internet, I recently got myself a nice little netbook. It's actually one of the larger netbooks some call an notebook ultraportable. I got the ASUS EeePC 1201N 12" Dual Core Atom with ION graphics Netbook. I am interested in finding the most efficient. Best Anti-virus for a Netbook. I don't want something like Panda, or Bitdefender or McAfee because they are very large and resource hogs. Most netbooks are pretty light systems. They aren't the strongest in the CPU and resources department so the Lightest, most efficient and Resource friendly AV is what I'm looking for. I've ran ESET NOD32 on my main PC for years and it's amazing. I could renew it with a 3 User Account instead of current 2 person. & use that. NOD32 has always been considered one of the best AV's money can buy. & it's light on resources. Whats a good FREE AV. I've used Avast in the past. How is there new Avast 5.0 Free Edition? is it still as lightweight and clean as the Avast 4? What about Microsoft Security Enterprises or whatever it's called? I've heard thats ok. Any suggestions, input, or Links to top 5, or Reviews of AV's would be appreciated. And what are you running on your netbook?malware bytes is excellent.. I use it all the time on my and friends PC's but it's not a real time AV.. it's for malware I need a resouce friendly AV moreVoting Question: Why does my computer freeze up and can't boot from the OS CD?
My desktop computer, a Dell dimension 3000 with a windows XP operating system freezes up once you get to the desktop. The mouse moves but clicking on icons or the start menu does nothing. The keyboard works in that I can click cap lock and it will cap lock. But I can't bring up the start menu or anything like that from the keyboard. I can bring up the task manager or the shut down screen option with the Ctrl + Alt + delete, but clicking any option there is useless and does nothing. I figured this had to do with the updated Avast anti-virus, so I tried to boot from my Windows OS CD to set my computer back to the factory settings, but I can't boot from the CD. I tried hitting F12 and telling it to boot form the CD and tried the setting up my computer (F2) to boot from the CD first, but nothing. Each time, it just ignores the prompt and goes to windows screen and then to the log on screen. So, I basically can't even restore the computer back to the factory settings. So, can anyone tell me what's wrong with my computer and what to do about it myself? Thanks.I've already tried loading in safe mode, and it's the same results. And yes, the fact that it's a Dell does make it pretty shoddy and it is about 6 years old. moreResolved Question: I have windows xp and I am trying to delete Avast anti virus, it says to do this I should sign on in safe mode?

(: moreVoting Question: Computer Having Problems?
Last week my computer was working fine. I had AVG anti virus. Before that I had AVAST!. So my trial was about to end on AVG and then it must have ended over the weekend while I was away. I don't know if this could be part of the reason for the issues I will discuss or not. Well I come back and microsoft things like microsoft power point and microsoft word are no longer working, yet I see files for them in the program files folder. I don't know if all the files needed are in them or not. Also, things like Steam (Digital Download Gaming Thing) aren't working properly. Like Steam says it needs to download something the client or something like that yet it is already downloaded. Though, it does let me into it. My internet seem to be running slower as well on my comp and my Firefox browser seems to come up with a Not Responding thing sometimes, though it used to every now and then before. There might be other issues too, but I am basically freaking out lol. Payed $1400 for this comp so ya... I don't want it to be broke. Could the problem be a whole bunch or viruses or something? While I was away like I said my anti virus ran out and my sister was downloading stuff on Limewire while I was gone. Could it be some other issue? My uncle was having problems with his ipod and he called customer support he had to download some microsoft program removing thing I think it was and then deleted Itunes and reinstalled it. Maybe he messed with something on accident and that caused these problems? I don't know I'm just throwing random things out there. Anyone have any suggestions of what to do? ALL help is appreciated! Also, when I restart my computer my programs that usually come up by starting up computer don't. I also see a red x shield thing in the bottom right of screen that is a windows security alerts thing I guess. Or maybe it is male-ware I don't know. The Windows Security Alerts red x shield is still there. Even after I downloaded free AVAST! I'm guessing it might be Male-Ware.
