Open Question: Hi I am suspected that my pc has been hacked by a group of church people?

Hi I am suspected that my pc has been hacked by a group of church people who make use of scare tactics to silence dissents. Whenever i voiced out my disgruntle about the group, they will send someone (my ex classmates and friend) to ask how I am doing, and whenever I made friends with my ex classmates on my facebook, when they found out, they will try to infiltrate our relationship. I am an expatiate so they definitely wanted me back to their wings. Over the past few months, I have been constantly by either emails or my friends' comments on facebook on how ignorant I am and that I should have forgiven what they did to me in the past and went back to the church. I am sick of that. I have found out the over the recent months, my computer has been hacked and all the websites that I visited has been recorded accordingly. I tried to purchase software online to kill the virus, but the one i had is absolutely hopless. I did purchase a noxxxn antivirus but no use, cannot kill, cannot detect anything. Now I am on public, I feel unsafe using my own pc. Whenever they found out i kill the virus, they will implant another one on the website that i constantly visited, I want to find out which anti-virus software is the most affordable and efficient. I tried AVG, but I like something stronger. Please suggest. ThanksI left some messages on a blog of male some months ago, we sort of had some chats about things, and the person hired some professional people checked my background using my user name, and they rose the suspicion of the cult because i actually worked for the cult some time ago in an educational setting. when they found out someone was after me, they joined the male into getting me, and i think a lot of the information of mine has been hacked and misused by these people. I am so angry about it. I broke the ties with the male, never left msgs on his blog anymore, and they just could'nt stop. I even reported the episode to the Police concerned, and that irritated the cult very much. I think they are angry at me doing this, but I have to do it to protect my rights. Once they even said to me: If you had not reported to the police, we would have give you some chances to live on your own. It was as if the safety of my life was depended upon the mercy of these crazy people.I don't know how to use Linux....that's the point...because i am a computer idiot...Do you think I can find out where the virus is coming from (which website) once I installed all these things? All I want is efficiency. I don't want to download a lot of free antispyware with no use to make up spaces on my pc, makes it harder and longer to load, I heard that symantec endpoint protection is quite good. any comments? more

Open Question: HKLM and HKCU -- Should I be concerned?

I just installed MalwareBytes and AVG Free Anti Virus software to get rid of a nasty AntiVir Trojan that infected my computer a couple days ago. After removing the infected objects, I was told I had to reboot. I did, and now my computer is working normal again without the virus clogging everything up. However, when I started up my computer, there's an icon in the tray at the bottom right (I'm running on Vista) that told me it had blocked some "startup" programs. I looked into it, and it took me to System Configuration, where it shows a list of all the blocked startup programs and their manufacturers. At first, I was just going to go through and uncheck all of the programs I knew I could trust such as Apple, Google, mSpot, Dell, etc. But then I looked at the location, and all of them are either beginning with HKLM or HKCU. This concerned me. I can tell which programs are a part of the virus, but should I just disable all of these programs? I'm so confused, please help. more

Resolved Question: How did this program get on my computer?

How did this program get on my computer? Out of nowhere, "Security Master AV" popped up on my computer and started harassing me. I did not download this program. It did not come on my computer, which I've had over a year. I never download anything, to avoid viruses. But all of a sudden, this program shows up on my desktop (even after I deleted it, it kept coming back - I went to 'remove programs' but it wasn't there). It kept freezing up my computer, saying I had critical viruses, asking me if I wanted them removed. There was no 'leave me alone' option; the only thing I could click on was Remove Viruses - which took me to a page about buying their antivirus software. I had to do a system restore to completely get rid of it. My question is...is this anti-virus program some kind of virus itself? I did not ask for it, or click on ANYTHING that would have given it permission to make its home in my computer. How do companies get away with this stuff???? It's really annoying, and I'd like advice on avoiding it in the future. It got to the point, within one day, that I could not go from one webpage to another without Security Master AV taking over and freezing me in the middle of what I was doing. more

Resolved Question: Do I need an anti virus for a mac?

I just bought a Macbook with an OS X operating system (is that like saying the water is wet?). This is my first mac and I have a lot to learn. I would like to know what anti virus (if any) is the best for my computer. My mom has a PC and she just updated her anti virus (Norton 360), and it came with a few extra downloads. She said I could use one, is Norton 360 any good with macs? I was doing some research and I found that Norton can cause problems with mac software, ie messing up downloads, deleting files you don't want deleted etc. But this was information is all based upon data from 2006. Does Norton still cause problems for Macs? If so what anti virus should I use? I would prefer to use an anti virus because I do like to know if anything is trying to get into my computer. It also gives me the illusion of being safe. Thanks for any help. more

Open Question: I need help getting rid of AntiVir?

My computer has recently been infected with "AntiVir" and I'm not quite sure how it happened. It's easy for me to tell that it's not a legitimate anti-virus software, and I never downloaded it or clicked anything. It kind of just showed up. But right now I am on my dad's Windows account. (We have Vista, in case that makes a difference) Anyways, I thought I'd try signing in to my dad's to see if the AntiVir bull crap affected his files, too. It didn't. Everything is running smoothly. But on my account where AntiVir got to, a "Security Warning" comes up every time I try to go on the internet, control panel, or even task manager. I literally cannot do anything. I've tried everything that people have suggested doing. When I tried to do a System Restore, it told me my password was incorrect (My account is the administrator) That didn't make any sense because after giving up on that, it let me sign in to my account. Anyways, I would just completely delete the infected account, but there's an issue. All of our family's pictures and music are on that account, and we don't want to lose them. Can anyone offer any help on getting rid of this nasty virus? I've tried Safe Mode with networking, but the internet doesn't work. And since AntiVir prevents me from accessing the internet on my account, I can't download a free REAL anti-virus program to fix it. We DID have McAffee, which came with our computer for 4 years or something. But that recently expired and we haven't had time to renew it. Any help is greatly appreciated. more

Open Question: Google Chrome is not working?

I know there are many questions and answers on here about Google Chrome not working, however I have searched for hours and cannot find a solution that works for me. I had gotten a particularly nasty virus on my computer a few months ago and Chrome has not worked since even though I have gotten rid of the virus. I am not getting any error messages, pages just are not loading. So far I have tried the following to resolve this issue: 1.Uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome many times 2.Uninstalled the Beta version and installed the secure version and vise versa 3.Scanned for viruses and other maloutious software using AVG free, Panda Cloud, Ad-Aware, Spybot, Spyware Blaster, Malwarebytes, Google's Spyware Doctor with anti-virus and took a look at things with Hijack This 4.Ran CCleaner 5.Tried steps one and two again 6.Disabled my firewall 7.Checked my proxy settings (which worked for another computer on the same network that had the same problem) I really don't want to just give up and use a different browser, I sort of have my heart set on this one so that is not an option in my mind at the moment. Any other suggestions that I may try? more

Open Question: Issue with brand new Toshiba Satellite?

I just bought the Toshiba Satellite A505 with the i5-430M Processor with Turbo Speed Technology. I bought it with the i5 cause I thought it would be able to handle almost anything for the next couple years. But two weeks in to owning the computer I installed Age of Empires, an out of date game that I enjoyed while i was younger. But while playing it there was some serious lag issues. I later installed World of Warcraft with the same issue. This confuses me quite a bit since an i5 should be able to handle crysis. I understand that I would need to upgrade my graphics card to handle crysis but Age of Empires? Really? lol. Any recommendations on what to do? Is there a driver I should install i dont know about? Also, I have the trial version of Norton Anti-virus. Should i stick with Norton or should i go with Mcafee, AVG, or any other Anti-virus/firewall type software? Thanks to everyone that answers!! more

Open Question: How do I forcefully uninstall a program?

Ok here's my problem, my internet connection works but my internet browser does not on one of my laptops. I was told this was due to a virus so I went out and bought a new anti virus software because the Norton 360 I had had expired. To install the new anti virus I have to uninstall the expired Norton 360. I went to the control panel > uninstall a program >>> clicked norton 360 to uninstall>>> and continued when asked for permission. But then in stopped there and did not uninstall. I try again and again the same result, control panel >>>uninstall>>>norton>>>continue>>>stops. So I decided to search all files and folders with the keyword "norton" and deleted them all and emptied out my recycling bin thinking that would uninstall it, obviously it didn't work. Norton 360 was still on the Uninstall or Change a Program list. Realizing my mistake I tried re-installing Norton with the CD (so I can uninstall it the right way) but apparently to install it I have to have it first uninstalled because the CD is older than the one on my computer (since it was updated I think). So now I'm stuck, I cannot uninstall it with the simple control panel method and I cannot seek online assisstance if I cannot access the internet on that computer. I can't open the program either since I emptied it from the recycling bin. more

Open Question: WIndows 7 IE8, Network is connected, internet is not.?

Ok, so my computer seemingly was infected with a virus. It kept saying each program I tried to open was infected, then said I had to purchase Anti Spyware software. I shut the computer down, and restarted in safe mode to run spybot, and it kept shutting down halfway through. I got everything to come back on, and I ran spubot along with Adaware, and the computer seems to run fine now, however it will not let me browse the internet. It says its connected to the network, and I can see the other computers on the network, but the internet will not let me browse. Any suggestions on what is wrong and how I can fix it? Thanks in advance for any help. more

Resolved Question: How do you recover from 'The Blue Screen Of Death' in Windows XP?

When booted into Normal Mode, after I have logged in and the Desktop has loaded, 'The Blue Screen Of Death' pops up with the following information on it: A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this Stop Error Screen please restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or backup utilities. Check your hard drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer. Technical Information *** STOP: 0X00000024 (0X001902FE, 0XFA4D954, 0XF7A4D650, 0XEDF10692) *** zlifuproclvn1.sys - Address EDF10692 base at EDF03000, Dasestamp 4bd9daa To be totally honest this means nothing to me. Also the computer that is affected I don't use very often, so I won't know much about software and downloads, but I will tell you everything that I know that has happened with to computer recently: The computer has been getting slow, I think this is due to the fact that my brother has 'World Of Warcraft' downloaded and he likes to use 'Curse Client' to download add on's for the game. Messenger Programmes and Software to open Zip Files have been downloaded. A Music Programme for Guitar Tabs was downloaded. The computer recently recovered from 'Antimalwear Doctor' (which was a real pain in the arse to remove), and several Anti Spyware programmes have been downloaded and uninstalled during the process of removing 'Antimalwear Doctor'. Then 'The Blue Screen Of Death' started appearing. The general information for the computer: Microsoft Windows XP, Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3 Dell Dimension DM051, Intel Pentium D CPU 2.80GHz 2.79GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM Other important stuff: Everything that needs to be done to sort out this problem needs to be able to do in Safe Mode, as the computer is literally unusable in Normal Mode. The Internet doesn't work when booted into Safe Mode with Networking, when the computer is on the internet doesn't work on neither the laptop or my personal computer (the affected computer is the main, it has the modem and wireless router), but when off the internet works fine on the laptop and my personal computer. The computer beeps just before login (Normal Mode). I have tried System Restore and restating the computer, I don't have to original disk. I have given you all the information about the computer I can at the moment, I really hope someone can help me out. Thanks for taking the time to read all the information. more

Open Question: Is this an Internet Virus?

Recently two computers in our house, both desktops, have been redirected or at least attempted to redirect to random sites whenever we searched basic stuff such as youtube or google. We have good anti-virus software and it automatically detects the change but what appears to be happening is that every time we search anything in the google bar or yahoo search it will bring up the list of sites found and when we click on the normal one it automatically blocks it giving a random address that was hiding in the site. Like after searching google, it will bring this up (Blocked: http://search15.com/?652870767b7c78747376 Rating: Dangerous) But for every single site it does this at least once then it doesn't show up for that site when you do it again till you exit and log back on again. This happens on both our home Computers and i have no idea if its a network infection or what. How can i fix it or clean it, my anti virus doesn't even pick up anything wrong in the harddrive or core systems so its definatley not "On" my computer but hiding in the internet. Should i just uninstall/re-install internet explorer or what? Thanks for any help more

Open Question: I reset the factory settings on my laptop, and now I can't log on?

My laptop got a virus which blocked my wireless connection and all my anti-virus/security software, so I used the disk that I got with the laptop to restore factory settings. However the thing loads saying 'preparing for first use' and then a toshiba thing saying 'loading settings do not interupt or shut down', the loading 'welcome' screen comes up, then the desktop background flashes up. BUT then it just shuts itself down. If I shut it down before it does itself, when I resart it I'm taken to the screen with the users on and one is a blank user which doesn't have a name/password and the other is administator which is locked, so I cant get into the computer. I'm sorry this is such a ramble but I have no clue about computers or anything =/ My os is windows 7 more

Open Question: McAfee computer at risk?

The security centre on my laptop is saying "windows did not find any antivirus software on this computer", even though I have McAfee. I still have over 800 days of my subscription, and when I go into mcafee it says the computer is at risk - but when I click to fix it, all it does is take me to the website to buy more anti virus software, it doesn't actually fix the problem! I'm not buying any more seeing as I'm meant to be still covered. Also, recently my mcafee homepage security centre changed layout - is this just because of an update? As the old one actually fixed any issues, and my dad's computer, which is covered by the same plan, hasn't had a change in layout.. I've scanned the computer for viruses but nothing has come back, yet apparently I have no antivirus software. Please help! more

Open Question: How do I remove a Trojan Downloader from my computer?

I accidentally downloaded a Trojan Downloader from a link my friend sent me. Now I have anti-virus, and the software detected it, but is unable to remove or quarantine it. Every few hours or if I turn the computer off then back on, the Trojan is back out. The program I use is Microsoft Security Essentials. If you could give me a free software that works and can remove it successfully that'd be great. I'd rather not have to take it in as I'd prefer not to make my dad spend the money.I wish I could pick 2 best answers. >_> more

Open Question: What is Microsoft up to? For the last one month or so I've been living in hell (sic) and swimming in the?

oil-tainted waters (sic) of the gulf of Mexico.I am afraid I have been chosen as an unlucky, if not one of the unlucky, candidate to participate in its campaign to wean its die hard customers from its (darned good) Windows XP operating system (and drive, force, if you will, by making life miserable for them, them towards upgrading to Windows7). You see, nowadays whenever I switch on my computer, I notice that the Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Defender that I have come to rely on to keep my computer safe for a while now, have stopped working mysteriously. Both programs are silent on why they stop, but are loud and clear that you're at risk and quote "Microsoft Security Essentials is not monitoring your system. You must start it." Sure, the necessary lighted red button was there for your convenience. If after clicking on it nothing happens (returning to normal), you're advised to restart your computer, and so on. For the Windows Defender it is even worse. I don't mind having to click on any buttons as long as it works and it's there. But that's not the case with Windows Defender; sometimes it's there next to its sibling on the task bar, sometimes I have to search here and there to bring it back so that I can have the pleasure (sic) of clicking on buttons, button such as quote, "click here to on windows defender and open." But, heck, sometimes it rectifies itself even though I have yet to even click the 'on' button. I have a feeling Microsoft welcomes you to use both its software (as always, after so many clicks later, it announces (to your welcome relief): You are protected. They just want you to not forget that you're using a damned good anti-virus for free. But then again, Microsoft may be very fond of red color, as everything it touches or owns invariably turns to gold ...er...red. Without fail, for the last two months I am greeted with this color highlighting the malfunctioned Security Essentials, and a not very red (orange) Windows Defender. The annoying thing is, any or both can turn red anytime, even while you're in the middle of something. While Microsoft has the right to turn off anything it wants or even discontinue the Windows XP, it should remember it was this operating system that made it what today. It should be patient with its Windows7 while continuing to make Win XP available. Otherwise, it (the arbitrary turning off of the said security programs) could backfire...like, sic, what happened to the legendary farmer who killed his goose which could lay a golden egg a day because he wanted all the eggs at once. Have you guys encountered similar problems? more

Alright, My computer is fairly new, bought it back in March 2010 Anyway, About 2 weeks ago I started having malacious lookin activity, so i took my computer into safe mode, scanned with: Malware Bites Anti Malware Webroot Anti Virus Nothing came up. Recently, it has started locking up, specifically on internet explorer. It will "not respond" (also when i run Malware Bytes or Webroot) and than respond about 20 seconds later, catching up too whatever it was doing. I scanned with Webroot successfully after numerous tries and it I was clear, though when I looked back 7 items were removed. I scanned with Malware bytes and nothing came up. Also, start menu will lockup, ITunes will not load. Although this is periodic, the frequency has become much higher. Please, This is my school and work computer and I have very little money. Can somebody please help me? ALSO: please do not sit here and critcize the software that I have. I need instructions on how to remove the..''infection'' and what it is, PLEASE If you need further information or any sort of help, you can reach me here or at kellyt419@gmail.com. Open Question: Browsers/AIM not connecting to the internet?

I recently got a rogue anti-virus software (Antivir Solution Pro) installed on my computer, I used AVG to remove it in safe mode, then restarted my computer and scanned again normally. I was still wary about connecting to the internet, but when I did, none of my browsers would connect nor AIM or anything like that, but I know my computer is connected to the network. I checked my firewall and they're not blocked. I also keep getting an error message when I start my computer saying "ctresE.dll could not start.. missing module" and it probably has something to do with it. Does anyone have any idea what's wrong? or is my computer is just fried and I should probably get a new one...? more

Resolved Question: Is this a critical virus? help!?

First of let me start by saying that my computer runs extremly slow. Takes a minute or more to open firefox, google chrome, etc. The computer itself makes a lot of noise. Also, whenever i try to download software like adobe, the download never starts. I tried Firefox, IE AND Chrome, and I can't download with either one of them. Sometimes, when I click on my homepage, it sends me to a different site. I also ran my anti-virus and spyware but neither found anything but i'm convinced that I DO have a virus. what can i do? more

Resolved Question: Does anybody really know what the best free anti-virus software is?

I recently had a virus in my computer. I brought it to PC World to get my computer fixed. I asked the technician in PC World what was the best anti-virus software to download as I was thinking of using Microsoft Essentials. He told me not to use that but to use AVG instead. Then I came on here last week to ask a question and most people on Yahoo Answers were telling me to use Avast! more

Resolved Question: Virus on my computer.?

I just came home to an adult website on my computer, numerous security warnings about viruses, and my sisters boyfriend, who was home alone, locked firmly in his room and apparently asleep. I tried to run my anti virus software which is the latest version of the free AVG, but it said it failed because certain files are infected. Then I saw a virus scan running on some anti virus software ive never seen on my computer before, but it scanned something like 40 viruses , trojans, keyloggers and other stuff, it gave me an option to remove but it said the free version does not support this feature and I would need to purchase it. What can I do? Plus, my router is connected to my desktop. I wirelessy connect to my router on my laptop, iPod and iPhone, is there any risk in using these due to the viruses on my desktop? more

Resolved Question: CALLING ALL COMPUTER GEEKS! Can someone help me with my computer problems?

A few months ago, I went on a website that was filled with trojans and worms and really infected my computer. It affected all my computer games excepted for one. And now I have a anti virus software called VIPRE and it cosed a lot of money. So now the viruses are out and my computer is find excepted for one thing. When I try to play one of my once was infected games, The Sims 3, it said it had a script error on my launch screen. I clicked keep running scripts and I clicked play, it then said this "Windows cannot access the specified device, path , or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item." I think it is either the anti virus software or that the disk has a lot of scratches. HELP ME! more

No luck. I'm running IE8 (and no thats not the problem, installed long ago), Windows XP SP3. Resolved Question: Is my computer infected?

My old computer recently got a spyware infection where it was saying I had to download a fake anti virus software. It would also pop up random websites when I would try to go on the internet. I tried running scans but the computer itself was pretty damaged so I swithced out the computer and put one of my older ones in. Then that one started acting up by going slower and doing the random website pop up thing as the other. Then another computer in the house that we share the internet through with an ethernet cord got the same virus. Is is possible the spyware has infected my connection and any computer I put on it is getting the virus. Please help. more

Resolved Question: How safe are Mac computers on the internet?

I have used my iMac on the internet for some time without any ant-virus software, because I was told that viruses target Windows machines rather than Mac machines and that Macs don't need virus protection. Is this true? Would anti-virus software work with a Mac? Are any of the free antivirus downloads any good? Any other advice which could protect my machine would be very useful. more
