Anti Free Norton Scan Virus Questions asked
Open Question: Random Computer Freeze-Ups?
For at least three years now, my computer has recently been "freezing up" whenever I visit certain maps (generally very active *graphic-wise* or populated maps) in downloaded online games (MapleStory, Wizard101). By "freezing up," I mean the entire system freezes my keyboard, mouse, and monitor, so that the only thing I can use is my CD drive. I've confirmed that it freezes my keyboard by trying the NumLock button, and noting that the light does not turn off or on at manual command. The mouse and monitor freezes by simply not moving at all. The same happens when I visit certain pages in a website (generally one that has a LOT of images), or is currently being visited by many people. It would freeze to the point where the only solution to continue using my computer would be to manually turn it off and on by holding the power button on my PC. I have tested the same maps and sites in a different account in my system, and the same occurs. However, I've also tested the same in a different computer, but it never has the same problem. I have already... - Defragmented my system (all drives) - Cleared my cache (at least thrice a day) - Scanned my system for malicious malware (with Norton, McAfee, Microsoft Security Essentials all full (and paid for Norton and McAfee) versions - but not with both installed at the same instance, since I know they would clash if they were) - Checked my hard drive for errors (all three) - Googled for a solution. I found zip, zero, zilch, except for complaints about the same issue. Occasionally, after having manually turning my system on and off (after it has frozen), I would receive a Microsoft Error Reporting pop-up upon rebooting that leads me to this link: http://wer.microsoft.com/responses/Response.aspx/10/en-us/5.1.2600.2.00010300.3.0?SGD=b72bfd83-1b98-4038-8601-f56af336d50f#here The link itself, however, is completely useless to me, as I've already tried all the first three provided options. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions of relevance that may resolve the issue? It's becoming rather tedious and annoying to continuously manually turn my system on and off. My friends blame it on a virus, but I don't think all three anti-viruses/firewalls I've had at individual times would have missed it. Overkill, yes, but I really love my computer, as it holds a lot of information compiled over the years. Please, is anyone tech-savvy enough to give me a legitimate and working solution to this bug? My system information (will provide more at request): Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3 Hewlett-Packard Pavilion Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.60 GHz 2.60 GHz, 760 MB of RAM My system is completely up-to-date with every program it has, and has a lot of excess free space as well. Thank you in advance! For the record, if someone responds with a solution that leads me to a link which either McAfee SiteAdvisor or WOT detects malicious malware in, you can save yourself the effort: I won't be fooled. moreResolved Question: About Anti-virus security, Malware/Spyware, hacks and firewalls?
I have Avast anti-virus. However, I scan everything once and a while. I mean Avast is not a superman saver or anything. With Comcast (cable & internet company) they give you FREE Norton anti-virus. I have heard talk that Norton sucks etc which is more than opinion since I have had it before and I uninstalled it with NO problem before when the trial was terminated and now I have it for FREE courtesy of Comcast. One thing I can say is before you go to a site it will tell you if it is suspicious first with the "safe search". To the point******* 1. Norton turned off my Windows 7 firewall. In order for me to turn it off I think I would have to uninstall Norton. The question is - Is that okay that Norton turned it off? 2. Along with Avast (which is not running but I do scan it once and awhile) I also have Malware/Anti-ware? Should I keep it? or do anyone recommend a BETTER Anti Spyware & Anti-Malware combo for FREE. Anymore suggestions would be helpful. If so please recommend something that is total FREE without credit cards or 14 trials, FREE PLEASE ONLY. In the past, I figured out paying for ANY anti-virus does not work. I don't want to many conflicts as it is. **********Preferably I want suggestions and recommendations from people who know about viruses and spy-ware/malware, hacks etc.************************* THANKS TO EVERYONE WITH HONEST ANSWERS.Top Contributor - Thanks so much I did exactly as you said. Thanks. moreResolved Question: McAfee is driving me insane with constant background and update scans - what is causing it?
I get McAfee as part of the package from my ISP. Please don't tell me to ditch it and get a free one because I cba! Much like Norton the PC becomes sluggish when doing a full system scan but apart from that it has been reasonably problem free. Until about 3 weeks ago... It started to scan for updates, download updates and do background scans repeatedly through the day. The start up scan (?) is making my PC unusable for about 15 minutes. I changed the settings to manual updates so at least I could postpone and install when convenient but there are that many it's pretty futile and it still hasn't stopped the slow start up. Does an anti virus programme really have updates every single day?! Prior to all this, I would be aware of one quick scan every day lasting only minutes. I have Googled it but I truly struggled to understand what all the techy forums were going on about it seemed ridiculously complex :( moreResolved Question: Anti Virus Software Help!!!!?
So, I have the full version of Mcafee, the best one, my dad's company gives all of its employees full unlimited subscription to it so it won't expire. However, I have recently heard of things like MIcrosoft security essentials and other free stuff. Are those a replacement for a full blooded Anti-virus like Norton or my Mcafee? Are they better? Last question, I also have a netbook and a tiny fujitsu tablet PC, I use them less than my laptop and desktop, btw. So, I am very annoyed when Mcafee cripples both of them using atom processors when running virus scans, even quick scans. So would Microsoft security essentials be perfect in that regards? I heard it only takes 7mb of space too? Please help, thank you moreVoting Question: How do i remove antimalware doctor completely from my computer?
I tried the malwarebyte anti-malware thing and it didn't detect anything. i tried using a million other scans and nada. so i decided i would try to do this manually i tried using this site: http://www.ehow.com/how_6067077_remove-antimalware-doctor-virus.html on the "Delete Infected Registry Values" i deleted everything except for this "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run Antimalware Doctor.exe" which i couldn't find. i don't understand how to do the Delete Infected Files part. can someone pleaseeee help me delete this annoying thing off my computer manually, meaning don't tell me to get norton or spyware doctor or anything, unless it's free and will delete this thing 100% moreResolved Question: Blue Start bar wont show/load upon boot of Windows XP computer.?
When I boot my computer that has Windows XP Pro, everything loads fine except the Norton Anti-virus and the blue start bar at the bottom. The Desktop icons and background are fine too. Internet Explorer wont load, FireFox still works but is very slow to get going. Also the Norton toolbar i have installed just shows a gray circle with a question mark in it. Another problem is that I cant open picture files by double clicking them. I have to right click and tell it what program to use to open the picture. I go to (Open with>Choose program...) and check the box to "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" after selecting the Picture and fax Viewer, it opens the picture file but to open another one or the same after I exit it, I have to go through the same process. >replaced the explorer.exe with one from another good working pc, but it didn't help... >plugged hard drive into another pc and scanned with AVG Free, and found 4 infected files so I moved them to the vault. How can I bring the task bar back, fix the picture problem, and get Norton 360 up and running again? No I didnt have them both. Norton was on the computer that got infected and AVG was in the second computer I put the drive into and scanned it on. I know norton sucks, but its not my computer.... Is kaspersky any good? Ive been using just that on my personal computer for a little more than a year now and havent ever had any problems.. moreResolved Question: Is anti-virus/security really important on droid phone?
I recently purchased a Motorola Milestone, and I absolutely love this phone. But I've seen a few security apps in the market (an anti-virus one and Lookout Mobile Security are the one's I recall). Reviews of these apps say they're good, but that they also consume an insane amount of battery life. So, what I'm wondering is, is having something like this really important? I haven't and don't plan to install any third-party apps, and I use the same basic common sense while browsing as I do on my computer. (Even more so on the phone since I do have an anti-virus program on my laptop, which probably give too much of a sense of safety). I think I heard somewhere that when you connect a device like this to your computer, your anti-virus programs scans it to- and I connect my phone to my laptop quite often. Info on that: I use Norton 360. While we're here, any free apps that you would recommend? moreResolved Question: My computer is extremely slow?
My computer's functions have been running extremely slow for about 3 months. It's really annoying. I've ran disk defrags, a registry cleaner, we have Norton anti-virus and I've ran all the diagnostic tools on that and we have a scan run twice a week to catch anything else. The internet speed is fine for the modem we have, but the slowness is in logging on, logging off, opening the internet browser, opening applications, and the computer locks up a lot when it's doing the simplist of things. My iTunes is all backed up separately, and our hard drive shows it has around 80% free memory. Can anyone suggest anything else I can do to speed up our system? Thanks for your help.I forgot to add that this is a Gateway computer we are running Windows XP and it's about 6 years old. Yes it's old but as long as it works I haven't seen a need to replace it. moreResolved Question: What is some free anti-virus programs I can get.?
I know about Norton, but I want more than just the free scan or a 30 day trial of protection. Are there any free cites out there that go beyond scanning to fix problems after they happen. I would love something that would PREVENT Malware and other junk getting onto my computer in the first place. Plz help. Is a free firewall to much of a pipe dream or is there really a good one out there? moreResolved Question: Whats the best anti virus for my windows vista laptop?
I have a HP laptop, about 6 months old running on Vista. I've had Kaspersky each year including this but am up for renewal and am sick of their antivirus taking forever to complete a scan and it takes up way too much of my systems resources. I'm not looking for a free one unless anyone knows a free anti virus that can blow the paid ones out of the water. This is a work/leisure laptop so it gets used quite a lot so need something that will offer me the protection of KIS10 without all the bad bits. Norton and AVG are 100% ruled out as options from the word go - they have both let me down badly in the past. Thanks in advance for all your help! moreResolved Question: I need a free anti-virus scan for my computer...?
Ive had Systemic Antivius from Norton since ive had my computer, but it got deleted recently. I was just gonna reinstall it, but is there something else you would recommend? moreResolved Question: Random ads popping up?
I downloaded a game and it had a virus in it the virus just opens ads randomly I already tried scanning with avast, norton 360,superANtispyware,anti-malwarebytes,a-Squared free and yet found nothing its getting pretty annoying!!! i need an anti virus that can delete this crap? moreResolved Question: Im worried about my computer..strange behavior. please help? 10pts best answer.?
okay, well my norton anti-virus expired about 2 months ago. i had been virus protection free for those 2 months. recently my comptuers started to act strange. when i first turn it on i see a pop up window that says "genius update" or something at the top. its a tiny little window and besides the title, it is blank, and disappears extremely quickly. (some people have said its just itunes, but i dont have itunes, and id never seen that window before til recently.) also, a few times now, my computer has given me the "blue error" screen, where i had to turn off the power and inproperly shut down. well i finally decided to download the free version of AVG anti-virus, and i ran a virus scan. it came back saying i had 2 "trojan horse- generic" or something like that and that it had put them in the virus vault. i googled this and it said that it was a "false positive" and nothing to worry about. just now i tried to download a program called paint.net, from a safe site by the way. and it refuses to download and keeps giving an error message that says "application not found" i am also still seeing the genius update window every time i turn on my computer. i am worried that somethings wrong. whether i still have a virus, or that i HAD a virus and it damaged my computer in some way. : / does anyone know why its doing any of these things? also, would AVG find and destroy a virus completely if i had one? thank you soo much, help is MUCH appreciated.thank you so much for the suggestions. seriously i appreciate it. i think im going to use avast, it has great ratings. thanks :) moreResolved Question: why doesn't free anti virus like avg or advast find find spyware or viruses.?
I always watch movies and download music online. These come with spyware. Anti virus u pay for almost always find spyware when i scan after watching movies online. I only have free anti virus now and they never find anything. advast and avg dont find anything. is that because they are blocking them or are they just not finding them. Norton spyware doctor used to be a free one that found viruses but they are apparently charging for virus removal now. does free anti virus even work? moreResolved Question: Can someone please help me choose which Anti-Spyware, Firewall, and Anti-virus to get rid of?
I have gone a little overboard downloading security programs. Well, as you will see I have gone way overboard. My Internet provider is Comcast so I have access to their free Norton Anti-virus but I have been using Microsoft Security Essentials. Is that a good idea or not? Here is a list of what I currently have on my laptop. Please advise me on what I could get rid of. Thank you! *Advanced SystemCare 3 *Windows Security Center/Windows firewall *Secunia PSI (i've had this for a while but deleted it this morning) *Duplicate Cleaner *Comodo *CCleaner *Windows Powershell 1.0 (I'm not real sure what this is or does) *Security Task Manager *Mcafee Security Scan Plus *WinDirStat *Malwarebytes Anti-malware *Microsoft Security Essentials *Spybot-Search and Destroy *Windows Defender *Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer 1.2.1 *Spyware Blaster *Antispy CA/Yahoo (this is on my Yahoo Toolbar) *Norton Security Suite is offered free from Comcast. Should I use it or Microsoft Security Essentials? I'm currently using MSE. THANK YOU for any help you can offer me. I have a tricky problem. I think my ISP (Internet service provider) Comcast is giving my computer a virus. Let me explain. About a month ago, I noticed that Smartscreen filter (which monitors downloads in Internet Explorer) was "unavailable" (and still is). Worried about this, I went looking to download more malware/virus protection from sites such as Spybot: Search and Destroy and AVG Free. For Spybot, it says "Server not found" and the text on the AVG site is so scrambled and layered on top of itself, I can barely read it. I then noticed that Windows could not update, including Windows Defender. My old anti-virus, Webroot, was being blocked from updating as well. I was also getting very realistic pop-up warnings titled "Windows Internet Security" warning me that "Your browser is run in unsafe mode" (That's a direct quote, the poor English is not mine) and that it wants my permission to download "Online Protection Tool." Even if I click "Don't allow" it starts the download, which I think is the rogue security program Internet Security 2010. I found a site that showed me how to remove Internet Security 2010 without getting blocked using Malwarebytes, ( http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-internet-security-2010 ) . After running a scan, I come up with two infections, names copied from the log below: Registry Data Items Infected: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\DhcpNameServer (Trojan.DNSChanger) -> Data: 93.188.161.105 93.188.166.105 1.2.3.4 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\{fb6d127e-1638-46aa-be60-19496e8dbad3}\DhcpNameServer (Trojan.DNSChanger) -> Data: 93.188.161.105 93.188.166.105 1.2.3.4 Of course, I chose to have them removed and restarted my cpu. If I don't connect to the internet, I don't see them in follow-up scans. BUT, if I do connect to the internet, even for a few moments, the same infections show up in scans. I called Comcast, and a tech helped me uninstall Webroot and install Norton (which Comcast offers for free), which is somehow not blocked from updating despite Windows still being unable to. Norton does not find any infections in its scans, but I still get the fake warnings and I am still misdirected to sites that are not what I clicked on. The comcast tech said that there's no way I have a virus. Malwarebytes still finds the same infections every time. What should I do? Please help! My email is splendorsecond@yahoo.com if you have questions or need to IM a solution. Also, I can't really change ISP, since Comcast is the only one that offers in my area... moreVoting Question: Why does my computer reboot when i am scanning it?

Or should i buy a anti virus package like Norton or McAfee? A friend of mine says the free version of Avira should be strong enough for general home PC use but yesterday a warning for a trojan came up when i was online and even though i pressed deny and did a virus scan afterwards (the scan was clear) my PC was very slow turning on today and now im paranoid. I don't know much about trojans and what they do so is it possible i have one? Even though the virus scan was clear? We only use the PC for general home use so is the free version of avira good enough? Im panicking here. The PC is brand new and top quality i don't want viruses etc. moreResolved Question: I recently put a question out and received some help with a free anti-virus download, MS Security Essentials?
I recently put a question out and received some help with a free anti-virus download, MS Security Essentials was the one recommended. {I did have a Mcafee on my system, but the one year free trail has run out, so I brought a Norton, but I cannot find the ‘booklet’ for it and therefore cannot load it, damn inconvenient.} Now I have used the MS Security Essentials, and as I thought there was a slight problem with my computer and after a full scan the MS Security Essentials picked out a ‘Trojan virus’ and said the following concerning it: ‘This program is dangerous and executes commands from an attacker.’ It then appeared to ‘Quarantined the Trojan virus,’ rather then ‘remove’ it completely. My concern now is: a} Is ‘Quarantining the Trojan virus’ sufficient in itself or does it need to be removed completely? b} Can it still be used by the ‘attacker’ if it is just Quarantined? c} Should I now seek out a anti-virus program which will remove the Trojan virus completely rather than just put it in Quarantined, and if so, do you know of one? I would very much appreciate any help in this area as I am not one for the ins and outs of the Internet, in fact I rarely use it; but I do enjoy the Yahoo jungle in Questions and Answers. Thanks in advance.Thank you Luke.TempoOne: While I do not understand all you are saying, I do understand the main thrust of your answer. Many thanks. moreResolved Question: Is there any hope for my Laptop?
Short Version: Is there any hope for a laptop that won't boot properly from the HDD, CD or DVD, flash drive etc.( In other words, it won't boot from anything.) I'm running Windows 7 on a 1 year old Toshiba Satellite. It has good specs, and has survived the year well. When I got it, it had Vista, I put 7 on it, and it improved it's performance by quite a bit. However, when I got 7, I put AVG on it, which I have come to find is not nearly as good as people claim it to be. Both Geek Squad from Best Buy, and Easy Tech from staples agree it isn't very good, and a large portion of the computers that come in to them with viruses and trojans are computers that are running AVG as their primary anti virus. I got a trojan, and my computer won't start up/boot from the HDD. When you try to boot from the HDD, after 5 minutes of a black screen with a unix like flashing cursor, it says there was an error with the HDD and it reboots. I got a free diagnostic, and Easy Tech found a trojan, however removal of viruses there is $130.00 USD. Being fairly good with technology, I elected to try removing it myself. I booted from a Norton 360 cd, ran a scan, which took over 15 hours to complete,( the trojan has slowed the computer down horribly.) and found nothing. I have a disc with 64 bit windows 7 on it, and I have booted from it several times now, after about 20 minutes of the Window's logo fluctuating on the screen with text below it that reads "Loading Windows" it goes to a black screen, and you gain control of the mouse. Normally, the black screen is followed up by a light blue screen with flower designs within a second or less, and then you choose to install Windows 7 or not. However, I have waited on this black screen for over 3 hours, and nothing happened. If it will not allow me to wipe the HDD and reinstall windows this way, and it won't let me boot from the HDD or a USB flash drive, do I have any options left, or does this Toshiba have to be put out of it's misery?staples charges 99.99 for a system recovery, but I'm attempting the same thing they are, so I don't believe a system restore is a viable option. As for the HDD, that might be an option, although I wouldn't be able to install it, I bet staples and best buy charge an arm and a leg for that sort of thing. If virus removal is 130, and all the have to do in most cases is scan it with Norton, I can only image what opening it up, buying the HDD, and Installing it would cost.I should have mentioned this already, I am unable to get into safe mode. The Toshiba screen pops up, and I can get into setup, and boot options, but it won't actually go to safe mode, and I cannot boot from the HDD. Also, you can boot off of a Norton 360 disc, and I ran a full system scan with virus definitions only a few months old. It found nothing, so I think that chances are the virus is too ingrained into the computer to fix it. Staples did a free diagnostic, and they said there was a trojan on the computer, and one of the guys there scanned the hardware through the set up menu, and he said there were no hardware issues. Also, in regards to the recovery partition, I was too lazy/stupid to set up the recovery discs and such. A mistake that I have learned a valuable lesson from, and hopefully anyone who reads this will learn too. It's totally worth the time to make the back up discs, especially if you are in college, you have no idea how important computers have become to success at college lol.Furthermore, not to defend Geek Squad, I know they are an overpriced service taking advantage of the technologically uneducated, you do have to pass several computer tests to get onto Geek Squad including I believe the A1 exam, which from what I have heard is not so easy. I trust in their credentials, but I'll be damned if I'm going to have them come plug in some hd cables into the back of my tv for 100 bucks. moreResolved Question: MEGA trojan not letting me acces anything...files, pictures, games, msn...even online HELP PLEEASE!!! Hello i was told by my isp which is Qwest that i have a bot on my computer that needs to be removed. Now i have done full scans of my computer with both Mcafee total protection and Norton 360 and it had no viruses but i know my computer has something that these anti virus programs didnt detect. So my question what software or what website can i go to to scan my computer for bots not malware or spyware but the bots. and i know norton has an anti bot program but i really dont wanna buy more software ive already bought norton and mcafee can this bot be removed for free or will i have to yet again pay for more antivirus sofware that looks for bots instead of viruses. i was upset that both norton 360 and mcafee total protection dont detect these programs. please help thank you moreResolved Question: What is wrong with my computer?
I'm usually a pretty savvy computer user, I'm a web programmer by profession. However, this one has me stumped. Before I wipe everything, I wanted to see if anyone else might have an idea what's going on. I'm running Windows 7 on a custom Dell Laptop. Hardware does not seem to be an issue, so I wont get into it. I have Norton Anti virus as well as Zone Alarm. My computer has been scanned as virus free by Norton, Avast, and others. I suffer from random blue screens of death (one every 4 days or so). The activities during a crash are always different, and the reported error is always different. The screen so far has gone by too fast for me to record exactly what it says, I just know each time it was different. A lot of programs of mine have stopped working, they crash on startup. Re-installing makes no difference. My best example of this is Tiger Player. For a while, adobe Flash (not the player) wasn't working. There was apparently a dll file missing from system 32 that re-installing did not fix. I found a copy of the file in a sub dir of sys32 and just copy pasted it, and flash started working again. My most frustrating problem is that on any browser, I have extreme difficulty loading pages. It took me 5 refreshes to get to this page. Sometimes the page is blank, sometimes I get a content encoding error, and a great deal of the time, the page shows up but images and things are misplaced and buttons don't work. Flash content rarely loads correctly (youtube takes 8+ refreshes to get the video to stream right). When I download files, they are often corrupt. This is most apparent with .torrent files, because 4/5 times utorrent wont even be able to open them. Turning off zone alarm makes most of my browsing problems slightly less apparent, but they don't disappear. And turning off Norton makes no difference. Running my computer in Safe Mode also makes no difference. I've tried system restores, but they all failed. And the last time I tried, all my restore points before these problems disappeared. My hunch is that all of this has to do with the program BC Wipe. Right before the problems began, I'd just finished a full free space wipe. However, I haven't found anyone else with similar issues reported. So, any ideas? I'd appreciate any input. moreResolved Question: Quick question about my internet?
Ok so i have the full upgrade from ATT's elite, and my dad's computer has a faster download/upload rate then mine. A support dude came out and said it could be some program. No viruses show up but I get this. It says in red text Informational:Shield Email: Start monitoring port 110 & port 25 for mail activities. I don't understand what this means. I sent webroot spysweeper an email & they told me to disconnect from the internet & run a full sweep & then do it again. I did this & it went away but now it's back again. I scanned with Norton & super anti-spyware too & no viruses show up. I just got my computer back from repair shop & it's still doing the same as it was before I took it in.I get a Warning saying my pc contains various signs of viruses & malware programs & says system security will do a free scan & it starts to scan automatically. I turn the computer off because I think that is a virus in itself or wanting to download a virus to my computer. Can anyone help me with this please?I know what a full sweep is; I didn't know what the informational shield means or the port 110 & port 25. I have avast! 5.0 Free Antivirus, which has protection for viruses, spyware, rootkits and other features similar to an Internet Security Suite like Norton - I know this because it says it here: http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download I want to know if it is necessary to download an anti-spyware program like Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, that scans for lots of different types of malware, to use along with avast!. Does MBAM provide any protection that avast! doesn't? Could using both potentially harm my computer? Or would I be unprotected without it? moreResolved Question: Are there any good FREE Virus Scanners and Removers?
My computer came with Norton Anti-Virus and it's about to expire. I don't want to buy it and I heard that there are some good ones that are free. What would you suggest? I need to update my drivers in my computer. I was told I can download a program to update all my drivers for me rather than looking up each one separately and updating it that way. Something like driver fetch can do it for me, but it costs money. Is there anyway to do it without spending any money. Can someone help me out. My PC has great specs, but its still so slow. I have a 180G HD, 1.8 celeron processor, 1G RAM, 2009 Norton Anti-virus (did a full system scan and nothing came up.), on-board video, and my pc is still slow. Slow navigating thru windows and navigating thru the web. I can only think its my drivers that are out of date. Which program can update my drivers for free? moreResolved Question: Can an Anti-Virus provider lie to you?
Ok, yesterday I was on myspace, and my computer told me that I was infected. So i immediately scan it, but it did not detect anything. I contacted my computer's support and they told me that I should get Norton instead because they are better. They also provided me with a "free" temporary anti-virus scan, which was from stopzilla, and their scan did find about 31 malwares (most of them where cookies and files). But when it was time to remove them, it said that I was going to need to purchase it in order to remove the viruses. It made me think that maybe my computer did not have anything and they really just wanted me to purchase their products. What should I do? should I believe my McAfee scan for anti-virus, which did not find anything, or should i believe my computer's support, which made me download stopzilla and said it was going to be free but really wasn't and did detect 31 malwares. I do have the full version of McAfee, which is provided by cox my internet provider, so I don't know who to believe. They told me that if it did not find anything then it must not have anything. I'm really worried about my computer being infected! Please give me your advice, and tell me what you think!! moreResolved Question: Does avast anti virus work well?

Well, I downloaded an anime video and I never had problems before.?
I think I have a computer virus. Hellpp!!? Well, I downloaded an anime video and I never had problems before. This time, a pop up came up and it self-downloaded itself(I think) to be an anti-virus thing. It's one of those things that let's you get a free scan but to remove the viruses you gotta buy the full version. I tried to get it off, but I don't know where the file is. All it is is a little thing on my toolbar. So, this "demo antivirus" is actually the virus. It won't let me in the web or anyhing- It even made my background green and says "your system is infected". So whadda I do? Moreover- where is this virus hiding? WhAt if I delete the video. Will it go too? I'll be getting norton soon- but I'd like to see what I can do before then. (oh and I am obviously moot using the infected computer now. I have advanced basic knowledge of computer usage too. But this virus is just plain annoying!!) moreResolved Question: I think I have a computer virus. Hellpp!!?

Can't Install Anti-Virus Software? I tried installing AVG free on my friends Computer (XP). I later found that other known anti-virus websites like McAfee and Norton are also not loading even though we can access the rest of the internet. Every now and then the computer will freeze and will only shut down by turning the power off. I have installed spy-bot and it has found spyware, which we fixed BUT I think there is a virus in the computer and I cant install software to remove it. I also tried to continue the installation in Safe Mode but with the same error message. I own a Compaq Intel Pentium 4 Mobile with CPU 1.60GHz, 256MB RAM, 29.7 GB hard drive. Starting few months ago, I kept getting windows pop-ups saying there is no room in my C drive. So, I tried everything; C drive clean-up, defragmentation and Norton Anti-virus system scan. In the end, CCleaner from Piriform seemed to work for me. The first time I did it, it gave me like 10 GB of free space. However, everytime I ran CCleaner, it cleaned less and less of my C drive. Also, I defragged often. I ended up restoring my PC with a backup CD. And guess what happened? SAME THING! Please help me figure out what is wrong!
