Anti Free Norton Scan Virus Questions asked

Resolved Question: Should I use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as well as avast!?

I have avast! 5.0 Free Antivirus, which has protection for viruses, spyware, rootkits and other features similar to an Internet Security Suite like Norton - I know this because it says it here: http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download I want to know if it is necessary to download an anti-spyware program like Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, that scans for lots of different types of malware, to use along with avast!. Does MBAM provide any protection that avast! doesn't? Could using both potentially harm my computer? Or would I be unprotected without it? more

Resolved Question: Are there any good FREE Virus Scanners and Removers?

My computer came with Norton Anti-Virus and it's about to expire. I don't want to buy it and I heard that there are some good ones that are free. What would you suggest? I don't want one that scans for free but wants me to buy the full version to remove the virus' I want it all free! more

Voting Question: How do I update all my drivers in my computer?

I need to update my drivers in my computer. I was told I can download a program to update all my drivers for me rather than looking up each one separately and updating it that way. Something like driver fetch can do it for me, but it costs money. Is there anyway to do it without spending any money. Can someone help me out. My PC has great specs, but its still so slow. I have a 180G HD, 1.8 celeron processor, 1G RAM, 2009 Norton Anti-virus (did a full system scan and nothing came up.), on-board video, and my pc is still slow. Slow navigating thru windows and navigating thru the web. I can only think its my drivers that are out of date. Which program can update my drivers for free? more

Resolved Question: Can an Anti-Virus provider lie to you?

Ok, yesterday I was on myspace, and my computer told me that I was infected. So i immediately scan it, but it did not detect anything. I contacted my computer's support and they told me that I should get Norton instead because they are better. They also provided me with a "free" temporary anti-virus scan, which was from stopzilla, and their scan did find about 31 malwares (most of them where cookies and files). But when it was time to remove them, it said that I was going to need to purchase it in order to remove the viruses. It made me think that maybe my computer did not have anything and they really just wanted me to purchase their products. What should I do? should I believe my McAfee scan for anti-virus, which did not find anything, or should i believe my computer's support, which made me download stopzilla and said it was going to be free but really wasn't and did detect 31 malwares. I do have the full version of McAfee, which is provided by cox my internet provider, so I don't know who to believe. They told me that if it did not find anything then it must not have anything. I'm really worried about my computer being infected! Please give me your advice, and tell me what you think!! more

Resolved Question: Does avast anti virus work well?

I had norton but then it expired. Windows is now saying I'm infected with tons of viruses and Trojans. I recently downloaded avast and I'm now scanning. Does it work well? I have no other virus protection. Windows is going out of control. Saying my computer is infected majorly! What should I do? Stick with avast or reboot it? Also does anyone reccomend good and free virus protection. And does avast actually make the virus go away? more

Resolved Question: I think I have a computer virus. Hellpp!!? Well, I downloaded an anime video and I never had problems before.?

I think I have a computer virus. Hellpp!!? Well, I downloaded an anime video and I never had problems before. This time, a pop up came up and it self-downloaded itself(I think) to be an anti-virus thing. It's one of those things that let's you get a free scan but to remove the viruses you gotta buy the full version. I tried to get it off, but I don't know where the file is. All it is is a little thing on my toolbar. So, this "demo antivirus" is actually the virus. It won't let me in the web or anyhing- It even made my background green and says "your system is infected". So whadda I do? Moreover- where is this virus hiding? WhAt if I delete the video. Will it go too? I'll be getting norton soon- but I'd like to see what I can do before then. (oh and I am obviously moot using the infected computer now. I have advanced basic knowledge of computer usage too. But this virus is just plain annoying!!) more

Resolved Question: Free Security Software?

Norton Anti virus isn't on my computer any more, because I have to pay for it. What do you think I should download? I don't care for the hassle, just tell me what you recommend, and what should I do, and how to do it. Should I remove all other anti malware/spyware/etc... before downloading? Resolved Question: Can't Install Anti-Virus Software?

Can't Install Anti-Virus Software? I tried installing AVG free on my friends Computer (XP). When trying to install AVG it came up with an error message something like " AVG can not detect an internet connection". When trying to access the AVG website, it does not load. I later found that other known anti-virus websites like McAfee and Norton are also not loading even though we can access the rest of the internet. Every now and then the computer will freeze and will only shut down by turning the power off. I have installed spy-bot and it has found spyware, which we fixed BUT I think there is a virus in the computer and I cant install software to remove it. I also tried to continue the installation in Safe Mode but with the same error message. I've downloaded the entire 72mb AVG file onto my USB drive along with Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware to take to his house and try on his computer. Any ideas guys? Can I hook his HD up 2 my laptop as another drive and then run a scan from my computer? Or is that not worth it? Cheers more

Resolved Question: Should i download Microsoft Security Essentials?

An email was sent to the contacts on my hotmail through my email account and i'm not sure if that means my account was hacked or if i have a virus (i changed my password just in case though). I scanned my computer but it didn't find anything. Currently i have Norton Anti Virus 2006 (which i haven't updated since i got it). Would it be better to stick with this older version of Norton or download Microsoft Security Essentials where i can get free updates (rather than renewing my subscription with Norton for $$)? I only ask because in the installation instructions for downloading MSE it says to uninstall any other anti virus software and i wasn't sure whether it was worth it/which is better. Thank-you for your help! :)or should i download avast? :S more

Resolved Question: What is wrong with my C drive?

I own a Compaq Intel Pentium 4 Mobile with CPU 1.60GHz, 256MB RAM, 29.7 GB hard drive. Starting few months ago, I kept getting windows pop-ups saying there is no room in my C drive. So, I tried everything; C drive clean-up, defragmentation and Norton Anti-virus system scan. In the end, CCleaner from Piriform seemed to work for me. The first time I did it, it gave me like 10 GB of free space. However, everytime I ran CCleaner, it cleaned less and less of my C drive. Also, I defragged often. I ended up restoring my PC with a backup CD. And guess what happened? SAME THING! Please help me figure out what is wrong! Is it just that my computer is too old? more

Resolved Question: My Acer desktop computer keeps freezing even after I reformated the hardrive?

Hi, I purchased an Acer desktop computer with Vista Home Premium windows on October 13, 2009.I purchased the computer from staples office and computer supply store. I started to experience my computer freezing up and directing me to some kind of blue screen with a bunch of writing on it, then the computer will restart. This problem started happening a week ago. First thing I did was scan the computer for viruses with Norton anti-virus in which I purchased from staples as well. This did not work, so I called up the company and they had given me instructions on how to set the computer back to factory default mode so everything would wipe clean and I would start all over again. I thought doing all of this would solve the problem and apparently my computer is still freezing up and shutting down. It shuts down like this when I play movies online in large screen mode or after watching movies for a short period of time on normal screen mode. Sometimes I won't even be playing movies and it will freeze up and shut down. I'm eligible for a free upgrade to Windows 7, but I think I will still have the same problem even if I upgrade. I mean I set the computer back to factory default mode and that never solved the problem, it's weird. I am totally confused about what to do now, so I am asking if anyone out there has had the same problem with their pc. If I can't find an answer, I will send the tower back to the company for repairs and I don't want to do that just yet. Please help me if anyone has an answer to this problem, I would really appreciate any information because this problem is getting frustrating. Thanks more

Resolved Question: I have an irritating virus or malware that keeps redirecting my Yahoo and Google searches...see details?

It redirects me to other random pages with recommended searches back to the major search engines and just cycles and even has a pop up when I search occasionally. 1. This all happened and kept happening while I was running AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 9.0.704 after full scans with updates. I uninstalled it using add remove programs because it wasn't working. 2. Installed Super Anti Spyware .....same as above 3. Installed (what I currently have) ESET NOD32 4.0.468.0 .....still the same thing Can someone please help me out here? I uninstalled each before installing the other including Norton that came with the laptop. Any advice would be appreciatedIf you happen to revisit my question. EVERY program I ran detected trojans and claimed to delete or quarantine them. As far as my knowledge I don't visit any malicius websites. Yahoo, Google, Basic web pages. I do visit a sh*t load of video gaming sites but they're well recognized nationally. Anyway I can search and read all most of you have said, but a few suggestions I'll review further especially Adam's lol more

Resolved Question: Which is better -- superspyware or Ad-Aware?

When I installed Ad-Aware to my Vista laptop it became one of the start-up programs in the system tray. I didn't know how to disable, so I unistalled it. Also -- after far Malwarebytes, should I install that if I install one of the above anti-spyware programs? And can I scan my computer with both programs at the same time? I have an HP/Compaq laptop that is one month old. My virus scanner is Norton right now (I'm going to change it to another free virus scanner when my 60-trial period is up.) Thanks! P.S, I'm upgrading to Windows 7 as soon as HP sends me my upgrade CD (or is it a DVD?).P.S.S. I have Windows Defender but not sure how good it is. more

Resolved Question: Why is my computer acting up? PLEASE HELP, ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I have a laptop from Acer. No recovery disk, I can't make one because the system will give me an error. Windows word doesn't work, I get an error, My video games will not work for more than a few seconds before the program stop working. Movie maker works only half the time. IE doesn't work at all, I have to use Firefox or nothing. There are absolutly NO viruses or adware/sypware/malware/rootkits detected by either AVG Avira Mcafee Norton antivirus Avast Spybot search and destroy Ad-aware Spyware terminator Super anti spyware Trend micro scan Windows live virus scan ASC virus scan. AVG anti rootkit. Windows defender They all come up with basically the same answer, no detection. But my computer has been infected in the past, but I got rid of the Virus with Avira. I thought maybe the virus/trojan came back and so I rescanned. I got nothing. Nothing nothing nothing. It drives me crazy. I got CC cleaner to scan cor errors and it "supposedly fixes them, yeah right" It detects stuff and fixes them, then after a day or so, they come back. I used the start up check "the only real error checking thing i could find on here" It says there are no errors" How can I get an Acer Aspire 4730z recovery disk? The company wants $20 through a credit card, I have no credit card, and I really cant afford $20 when they are supposed to give you one for free, and the one I made doesn't work. Also some of my keys on my keyboard don't work either. more

Resolved Question: Is anti-virus software really worth it?

I always had norton antivirus. Stopped running it for about 8 months "just to see" if Firefox, Google Chrome, Vista, Windows Defender, and/or my webmail would prevent viruses. Got my new Norton 2009 upgrade just to be safe, and I ran a full-system scan. All all it found was a tracking cookie. I know there's lots of viruses, malware, and other crap out there attacking computers, but seriously, with all the time I spend online I can't believe all it found was a tracking cookie. Thoughts? PS-I know, I can run AVI for free. Don't like ads! :-)My new Norton antivirus software (Internet Security 2009) should capture malware too, right? I'm just shocked I didn't get anything but a tracking cookie in 8 months unprotected. I thought it was as bad as not using birth control, LOL more

Resolved Question: Good anti-virus software to download for free?

I have downloaded 2 different ones, aside from the one AOL offers. The McAfee one from AOL screws up every time we try to download it. And, we have one on our pc now, but it sucks. We have some pc tools anti-virus software now, which takes over 4 hours to due a complete pc scan. And, I downloaded the Norton 2010 software, and my hubby actually had to go into the registry to delete it off the pc. Craziness! Anyway, don't just say a name of a software, I'm looking for actual opinions from people that use various software. Thanks!Wow, some people just don't read the entire question, they just want those quick and easy 2 points. I asked for opinions, not just names. So far only one person has given details...Such disappointment in the answers community. more

Resolved Question: Why is my computer doing this?

I bought Norton anti-virus this year and I also use AVG free anti-virus. I would scan my computer every night and it said that it found nothing no threats or risks or anything. The other night balloons and boxes started popping up from the bar at the bottom of my screen saying I have trojans and all kinds of spyware and viruses. I ran the scans and it says I have nothing yet my computer keeps saying I have about 40 viruses. I've been running about a million scans with my updated anti-virus programs and it says I have nothing yet my computer keeps freaking out saying that I have just about everything! Please help! I can't afford another anti-virus program and I've already tried another free trial one. more

Resolved Question: How good is Norton Anti-virus?

I was trying to watch episodes of Star Trek online (yeah, I'm a nerd) on a shifty video hosting site when I got a message that my computer was being attacked. It offered to run a free scan, but I have Norton Anti-Virus so I'm scanning with that instead. It hasn't found any problems, but I got the message again that my computer was being attacked. Can I trust Norton Anti-Virus? (the one that doesn't detect a problem) more

Resolved Question: Is this a hard ware or software Problem?

I am facing a problem which i am not able to distinguish whether it will come under hardware or software or both.I am using vista ultimate 32 bit A few days ago i had posted my problem in this forum in which Graphic corruption use to occur in my screen randomly and screen used to freeze at that very moment .When and where this problem gonna come i cannot predict . The corruption began to manifest right from BIOS Screen (where it did not hang ) ,till loading of windows where it automatically get resolved or not depending upon probability. After discussion with a local technician .i thought that as the problem was evident right from Bios so My video Ram or any circuit in the graphics card might have got corrupted. But then i also noticed fairly recently that whenever this problem occurs and i hard reset the computer ,windows loading fails and the message "A recent Hardware or software change has ............. " .I always choose "Last Known good configuration " and most of the time it starts but if it not it automatically reset and comes to the start up again . But Whenever this problem occurs i had never applied any kind of update or install/install software before the screen occurs then why does it says so. Also I had installed Norton 360 3.0 trial . Whenever this problem occurs and i choose "Last Known Good con-fig...." ,after windows loading (if it loads by grace of god ) ,norton fails to start saying "some unknown problem failed to start Norton please contact support base" I installed norton 360 and installed Norton Internet security but this problem began to occur then every alternate day. Also for the first time after booting ,Scan disk (vista scan disk, having black background) ran (this had not happened evr in last 1 year ) and it discovered some bad sectors which it corrected but after restarting it again came to the "A recent hardware or software........". So i am literally confused ,what should i do ,should i change my GPU or reinstall windows and choose any other other anti virus or change my HD . This is because the problem is occurring right from first BIOS Screen where gpu info is shown ,but windows fails to load . If GPU is failing why is windows failing to load ,it should just hang when screen corruption get out of control .If it is a HD problem then why corruption is occurring when HD had not even be detected . I ran some free HD health software (mine is SATA ) which checked the smart status and they reported HD to be healthy . I need to add that i have also changed about 7 to 8 power cable in last 6 months because my home earthing is not right for PC's and also i do not use UPS ,because any UPS does not last even 6 month with me (last one was a APC) .So i just use the power cable directly and hence regulate hard shutdown occurs due to power failure in our locality. more

Voting Question: My norton isn't scanning properly. Help Please!?

I went onto this website to try and hack into adobe programs so I could use them for free (Shame on me I know) and then I think it had a virus in the link, although my friend used it before and it worked. So my computer rebooted :S. When I turned it back on it was and then I clicked onto yahoo answers after searching and this completely random website came up. It happened a few times after this on other websites like the bbc so I looked at my history and it had something like cclicker (I dont know what that is) there so I deleted it. I then went to scan some other files to check if my anti virus was working and it wouldnt scan. It said 0 files have been scanned and they didnt have viruses even though it was my picture folder which had tonnes of photo's in. So then I went into Anti Virus and then looked at history and about the same time I downloaded the file. There was a change in my AppData\Temp\Local folder, so I delelted the file which were created today. The little website changing thingy is happening still sometimes and I am scared incase I have a virus and might lose all my files and stuff. Can someone please shed some light here and fast since I have to go to bed soon? I am afraid to turn off the computer incase it doesnt go back on or something. What can I do to stop the website changing? Is this even a virus? Am I getting bothered over nothing? How can I get my norton to work? Please. HelpI think it has something to do with the 'clicker.en' I dont know what this is or what it does or if its a big virus but can someone please helpI also think it has disabled the Anti Virus. :SI am pretty sure now it is the Trojan-Clicker. I NEED removal methods (preferably manual ones) Is it safe to turn off my PC or will it not turn back on more

Resolved Question: HOW DO I DELETE ANTI VIRUS SYSTEM?

Please help! I'm sooo frustrated and scared right now. So there's this AntiVirus System (not the pro version) and it keeps popping up. The thing that is frustrating me the most is that it will not let me on to the internet. I'm not clicking on anything it i saying because I know it's a trick. But I cannot download a free Anti Spyware thing online. Can someone PLEASE help me remove this manually? I do have Norton but it says it's out of date. However I have been able to scan my computer with it. It didn't catch anything before. I cannot find the AntiVirus System as a file on my computer. Can someone try to do a step-by-step on how to do this? Thanks sooo much! more

Resolved Question: Clear up misinformation on AVG?

I wanted to clear up some information flying around yahoo answers posted by the Norton, McAfee, Avast!, Avira, Bitdefender, etc... virus software fanboys. (come on people! being a fanboy of Virus software is just sad!) Contrary to what the fanboys want you to believe, AVG does not work on file names alone. It works on virus signatures and heuristics just like every other anti virus product out there, so stop claiming that AVG falsely detects major OS components as infected, this is just a complete lie. If your AVG install IS detecting major OS components as infected then you are either using a pirated windows copy or you have gotten a serious infection. Resource usage is actually very satisfactory compared to other offerings; especially the common ones like Norton and McAfee! Even if you compare to the other free offerings like Avira and Avast which both use roughly 80MB of system memory with "minimal" installation options, AVG free installed with minimal options still beats them out since it only uses roughly 25MB. As for detections, they could be better. But you can't expect it to be as good as the subscription Nod32 or Eset Smart Scan for the detections over resource usage and AVG is pretty competitivewith other free solutions in this area. Remember, you cannot simply install an anti virus program on a Windows system and always expect it to come back 100% clean, no matter what brand you use, NO anti-malware packages can make that claim. I will admit that now that they've started using pop-up ad screens like Avira, I will probably switch for the better detection rates since the only thing keeping me from switching to Avira in the first place was all their ads. Anyway, let me know what you think.LOL already the fanbois come out in droves! AVG was made to detect the EICAR only in certain formats on purpose. Grisoft did want a method to recieve the file for file based tests that are also needed so they don't detect it in every format. Every company chooses how they will detect this.. originally they detected it in most all formats but found then that people couldn't get a copy to test other areas with. All Eicar effectively does is show that the resident sheild is up, it does nothing to prove the effectiveness of the antivirus since all antivirus programs can easily be programmed to detect it since it is always the same string of data! Thanks for the link to elitekiller.com for the disabling of the Avira nag screens though!Meh, the lack or inclusion of root-kit detection doesnt bother me much. Why? The problem with root-kits is that once a virus injects a root-kit into your OS kernel it is next to undetectable, so if it doesn't stop the virus it won't detect the root-kit. It gets even worse if you take hyper-visor root-kits into consideration. Prove to me that this is not the case and I will change my mind. more

Resolved Question: Removal of 'troj/rustok-n' virus from my computer?

Resolved Question: How do I get rid of my virus?

My computer recently started slowing down, and now it freezes, randomly plays about two seconds of music, closes out of things by itself, and wont let me install certain things. I've scanned my computer countless times, using Ad-Aware, A-squared, Malwarebytes' Anti-malware, Norton 360, Spybot, and SuperAntiSpyware. None of them find anything. Is there any free antivirus I could use to get rid of this virus? more
