Resolved Question: Help with avg and yahoo anti-spy!?
I have avg free anti virus plus yahoo's anti-spy powered by computer associates (came with yahoo toolbar). When i ever i scan my computer for viruses with both. Avg usually detects a lot of tracking cookies and yahoo anti-spy never does. Yahoo anti-spy detects a lot of viruses, avg doesn't. What is wrong with both of them? Also i quick scan with yahoo anti-spy once, then quick scan again and it sometimes finds viruses the first time, and sometimes the second time. What should I do? moreResolved Question: Why am i suddenly getting pop-ups and my free Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is not working anymore?
Last week I noticed that I started getting these pop-ups, usually the one about "Congratulations! your the ?(number) visitor." So thought I had some malware and tried to run Malwarebytes. But I can't even open it now! My computer says it cannot find it. So i uninstalled it and attempted to reinstall it won't let me. It says its can't install a certain file. I even installed 2 other free Anti-spy programs, Yahoo Anti-Spy and Ad-Aware and ran them but the pop-ups still come up. I ran McAfee too and there are no viruses. So wats goin on with my computer? moreVoting Question: good non-intrusive yet free antivirus program.?
Ok, so I had AVG Free for awhile, but got really pissed when i relised that i really had no control over it. Meaning that when it found something it thought was a virues(Like a keygen), it would do its thing and not let be involved in the removal process. I had no control over what files it was removing and what files it wans't. I downloaded malware bytes free version and that has been doing me well. though lately, for some reason, it has not been working. So my question to you is, Do you know of any good anti-virus software that will let me do what i want to do, and yet is still good at detecting the virues. thanks. Also, how are you guys liking the new Yahoo answers? moreVoting Question: 'Open With' Problems: Can't access most programs?
Dear Yahoo Answer Community, I've ben having trouble with my computer lately; you see, I've recently had to deal with the 'XP Anti-Virus 2010' fake anti-virus programs. I got SUPERanti spyware free edition to get rid of it, but now i can't access certain programs without having the 'Open With' window popping up and asking me which 'accessable' programs that it wants me to run it with (this includes the control panel and internet options) I was wondering if someone could help me with this Thank you moreResolved Question: How do I remove Kollah, Kollah ADV and Sillydl gyi trojans?
I removed my older version 6 or7 Yahoo! Toolbar and installed the new Version 8. I ran the CA Spyware Scan and it indicated 3 different Trojan viruses present. I scanned with just "Live Updated" Symantec Anti virus, Spybot and Windows Defender. They showed nothing. I reran the CA Spyware and it still showed the viruses present. I downloaded and ran 2 different free anti spyware programs then reran CA and it no longer showed the viruses present. Could the CA have showed a "false positive"? Could the viruses imbed and hide from all this scanning? Where should I go from here? moreResolved Question: howdo i acess my free anti-virus protection?

It's getting pretty annoying because almost everyone thinks that an free anti virus and free anti spyware programs are better than the ones that you pay for at the store. This guy named optimus answered my question very stupidly, he says that saying Norton is protecting my computer is like saying Osama Bin Laden is protecting America. How Ignorant is that ?? He also says I'm not computer savvy while I am really computer savvy, I'm a 1st Year IN College Computer Technology Student so don't call me not Computer Savvy. Also, I've exprienced with free anti virus and anti spyware programs before like Avast Anti Virus And Spybot Search & Destroy and those things did nothing for me when I got infected really bad. Avast Anti virus Lets The virus get into my computer and then alerts me while Norton stops it before it gets into my Computer. I had one hard drive that crashed thanks to Free Anti Virus programs that did nothing. How come everyone thinks that Free Anti Virus And Anti Spyware programs are better than the ones that you pay for ?? In my experience the ones you pay for are more effective and more secure than the free ones. I'm using Norton Internet Security and It has total protection. Can anyone please tell me why people thinks that free ones are better when it's not ?? Check out what he said in my other question http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AgdkuPDqe38KsozetCybhbfsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20100213144306AA2gsYm moreResolved Question: Do I need a separate anti-spyware program with Avast! 5.0 Free Antivirus?
I know that Avast!, like many other anti-virus programs, has spyware protection as well as virus protection. However, many people on Yahoo! ********ONLY FREE ONES******** Yeah yeah i know there are millions versions of this same question on Yahoo Answers but i need to make one to express my feelings towards certain Anti-Virus & Firewall programs I'm a Avast free user (Former AVG free user) and I'm really loving the big update that came out this week for it. I am but I'm reconsidering cause I'm hearing good things about Microsoft Security Essentials and the best thing i hear about it is that it is very lightweight and as a Hardcore Gamer that is a necessity I'm using Zone Alarm Firewall and I'm loving it, its lightweight and its not too much of a bother but if you can recommend something better go for it! Microsoft Security Essentials Is it any good? I'm thinking about replacing Avast with it but I have mixed feelings on this due to the fact that the XP Firewall sucks, Internet Explorer has alot of vulnerabilities. So for me Microsoft + Security=Bad Now i have heard about Avira and Kaspersky and all these other ones but I'm kinda worried that due to the fact that they are just free versions of paid programs that they wont be doing their job the best Please help me out here and don't recommend a RAM Hungry Anti-virus or Firewall unless its really that good cause i need my computer running fast due to the fast that I AM A GAMER. i am running XP SP3 and i use Firefox as my Main Browser************REMEMBER FACTS ARE PREFERRED OVER OPINIONS************ moreResolved Question: Computer anti-virus/Spyware/Trojans Etc.Etc. software that does it's job?

Hello. I'm having constant daily problems with my browser, any browser as I have 3 installed on my laptop. After about an hour and a half or so, I go to click on my web page, or open a new browser tap, and the page won't open and the browser just locks up. I can do anything else on the computer, and even continue chatting on yahoo messenger, no problem. But the browser just goes into retirement. Mostly I use Google Chrome where the wee revolving circle (to the right) indicates the tab is opening, but when it locks up the circle just revolves slowly to the left and if I try to close the browser with the white cross, red square I have to do so lots of times before the thing will close. The only way to resolve the problem I've found is to reboot the laptop then it's fine again for another few hours. Very weird. In case it's of any consequence I have Zone Alarm free edition firewall, Avast free edition anti-virus, I run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Spy-bot Search and Destroy for spy-ware but not running at the time. Anything else you want to know just ask. There seems to be no pattern to what I'm doing at the time. Any advice appreciated. Thank you. PLEASE HELP!!!! THANK YOU! moreResolved Question: Why is my computer running so slow? What can I do (myself) to make it not so sluggish? Thanks in advance!!?
I use the internet for all types of things -- as many of us do. I watch video's, email and some data processing from time-to-time. I would tell you though, for the most part, I use the internet to watch television shows that I have missed and sometimes movies. I have AVG Free Antivirus program, I have used AVAST anti virus programs before and McAfee must be on my comp8uter because from time-to-time a pop up will appear asking me if I want to run it. Because my computer (for the last couple of days) has been running really sluggish I googled what to do. I defrag'd my computer and it helped for about a day. Today, however, I was sending an email (Yahoo) and the text was running so slow -- but didnt completely seize up my computer -- not to the point that I needed to reboot-- but WOW...!! It was slow! While I was typing and the computer / text seemed to be suspended for a few seconds, I could hear my computer doing some kind of gurgling sound -- as if it is trying to process something. One of my tech friends said that's called latent (as in running behind) and although I *get* that! (Grin) I want to know what I can do (for free) to unclog my computer. I apologize for the ignorant description I have given -- but I'm not a computer geek -- but I absolutely love using my computer! Could someone explain what's going on? I empty my cookies every day and sometimes more than 1 or 2x a day. To whomever is able and willing to respond -- will you kindly be patient enough to explain the solution Step-by-Step (on what to do to fix it) and in terms that I can understand??? Talk to me like I'm from another planet! I wont be offended! Ha ha. I will be SO grateful if someone can help me!!! Thank you! Thank you! And it said like 30 things were infected but she only has the free trial, and she knew it just wanted her to buy the software, so she just closed it. And then after that that box started popping up. When she presses yes, it just brings her to an anti virus thing, not McAfee. And if she says no it just keeps popping up. She can't open her control panel through ctrl+alt+delete to end it, and she can't open some other things such as her pictures and Paint, it says they're infected. It's an HP laptop, and it has Windows Vista. Is there anything she can do for it? Does anyone know what it is?Sorry, here's the link to the picture of it. I'm using Y!M 10 on XP Pro SP3. I discovered that file transfer isn't working (I cannot send or receive files). I made the upgrade from v9 (which worked perfectly). I'm also using Avast Anti Virus (free) and Spyware Terminator (latest versions). I installed Pidgin for my Y!M account and the results were the same (no file transfer in or out). Not just the backgrounds in any website actually, also the ads, pictures, and even the ask, answer, and discover logos in Yahoo Answers! Is it a problem with a virus? in settings? I haven't use my internet explorer and firefox for about 2 and a half months and when I open it, only chosen pictures have colors, you can't even see the Google logo in its home website. Thank you! moreResolved Question: I have AVG "Free", should I switch to Microsoft Essential, Avast? Or leave free anti virus altogether?
Someone showed me the new Microsoft Security Essential anti virus recently, and I began to do research on my own anti virus program, AVGFree. A lot of people love it, and a lot of people say its detection rate is the worst, even for a free antivirus software. Personally, I'm fairly careful online so I haven't had too many problems with it, but more than once, I've had to double scan my computer, to catch something AVG missed. My question is, how realistically bad is AVG, should I switch to a different free antivirus software, or if I was to buy one, which one should I buy. I only want factual information of why one is better than the other, and not just because its worked for you so far. All the other Yahoo answers about similar subjects are so full of personal opinions that it is impossible to figure out the facts. Thanks, I hope you can help! moreResolved Question: IE8 won't open secure sites (like gmail or mail.yahoo.com).?
Not sure when it started happening, but would like to know what programs other than spybot that I can run. Currently running Avast! Free Home edition anti-virus. Have also already run Malware-Bytes Anti-Malware. BTW, Firefox works fine, but I believe that this issue may be affecting other programs (like giganews accelerator).@Jasper, Those settings are already set, and I did a full reset of all IE settings too.@Bacalao, Thanks for your suggestions. I will try those programs. Giganews Accelerator is a Usenet program provided by Giganews (a Usenet provider) to allow the use of compressed downloads of news binaries headers). The program was working before I had the IE problem, but I'll try re-installing all programs that I can that are associated with the problem.OK. I've downloaded Kaspersky (the security suite) but it won't update. The solutions on the site aren't helpful as it asks to check whether you are connected to the internet or not. Clearly I am, because I am typing this from the computer in question. moreResolved Question: How to fix Windows 7 programs randomly minimize/unselecting?
Ive been having some issues lately with programs i run on Windows 7. They're kinda divided into 2 different problems; for example, if im on the internet/using yahoo im (something in a window), the program just randomly unselects itself, then i gotta click on it again to continue what im doing. Now if im playing a game that requires a full screen, the actual game will just randomly minimize itself, showing the desktop. No messages, it just minimizes for no reason that I know of. Does anyone else have this problem/know how can i fix it? I don't know think I downloaded anything, but I think it's a website I went on to watch a free movie. Anyway, now every time I log on to firefox mozilla, pop-ups appear, saying things about amazon.com, windows registry services, yahoo questionnaires, etc. I have a anti-spyware system XoftSpySE that I downloaded, which was the cheapest I could buy and every time I do a quick scan, it finds a virus that the pop-ups gave me. in ref to: http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-google-obama25-2009nov25,0,98932.story This is not a simple matter of where do we draw the line on censorship. This is a matter of the distortion of rights. It's INTENTION that reveals racism, and racism is a form of violence. The news article says an image (manipulated to make the face of Michelle Obama look like a monkey) was posted on a blog called "Hot Girls" (may have been removed), but currently the website linked to the gross image is a forum that's ridiculously over-the-top anti-government. The thread that was supposed to have contained the image reads like it was written by a Timothy McVeigh, or maybe the person you'd see at a G8 summit riot. Big quotes from civil rights leaders and news of their assasinations, lots of talk about "globalist pigs" and the government using "psychotechnology," mind control programs, social engineering, etc. The moderators of the forum apparently removed the image because it's no longer there, but Google thinks it's appropriate to leave it up on image search, apparently in the name of freedom of speech. About Google blogs from the news article: "Rubin [Google spokesperson] said Blogger users have to adhere to the site's terms of service, including a ban on hate speech, which the agreement defines as "content that promotes hate or violence towards groups based on race, ethnicity, religion, disability, gender, age, veteran status or sexual orientation/gender identity. ...a determination of hate speech, under company terms, would heavily rely on whether a site was 'attacking or advocating attacks on a person.' 'An image alone may not provide enough context to constitute a violation of the policies,' he added. A different website containing the same altered image of Obama was banned by Google several days ago, but only because the site was deemed to contain malware that could spread a virus or similar online malady. When a site is dropped from Google's index, the search engine will not present it as a result." --The spreading of a computer virus is intentionally inflicting harm, and this is the same intention with the manipulation of an African-American's face into that of a monkey. It would be sheer ignorance to not know in American culture that this image is intended to do harm. Google is allowing people to spread harm through the Internet, in support of people who don't understand what racism is. This is not simply about "freedom." It's freedom without responsibility. Even Yahoo Answers realizes you can't just let all people say whatever they want without there being consequences for what is obviously intended to be harmful! Why do some Americans believe that the "right" of free speech gives them the "right" to engage in a form of violence and racism and cause obvious harm? Do they just think there's no such thing as racism?Dan: Racism is not making fun of the "Hill Billie." Do you understand what racism is? It's a form of violence against African Americans. It's not INTENDED to be funny, it is intended to inflict harm.FleetTech: You're suggesting racism shouldn't be disturbing in a culture that so values freedom? Absolutely wrong. I have Toshiba Sattelite L300 laptop which automatically writes these letters "cccc" and "bbbb" (ONLY these two letters). I bought this laptop 11 months ago and it is still under 1-year basic guarantee that will expire within few weeks. Few months ago, I began to notice that frequently while I'm writing (whether in Microsoft Word, yahoo notepad, Google documents, or simply writing my ID's and passwrods online) and after finshing the sentence, sequences of c "ccc" and sometimes b "bbb" automatically written without pressing the letter keys. I thought that it was Windows problem, and so I ran Toshiba Recovery twice, and the problem remained. It could happen once everyday, and it could happen even more frequnetly (e.g. 5-50 times a day!). I was told that it must have been sticking keys on the keyboard causing the problem. I contacted Toshiba technical support who kindly replaced the keyboard and returned the laptop back to me. I was surprised that the problem was not sorted out. Someone on Yahoo Answers told me it might have been a virus. Therefore, I replaced my anti-virus with Avast! (free version), and downloaded 2 anti-spyware/malware (Spybot and Ad-Aware also free online) and scanned my computer. However, the problem is still there, coming and going, and sometimes very frequent to the extent that when the curser is at any place whether online or in Word, it writes big number of C's "cccccccc" and sometimes "bbbb". The noticeable thing is that never any other letter is automatically written! Just these 2 letters (b and c). The only thing that happended to this laptop few month ago is that my 2-year child stood upon it while it was closed and I don't know whether this had anything to do with this writing problem. The problem is terrible because MOST of what I do on my laptop is writing...What do you think? Has anybody gone through this painful, hateful experience? Any suggestions? I really hate this to happen, especially because I'm writing my PhD thesis and I don't want to be obsessed with reviewing every single paragraph in case that this might have happened...Serious and/or expert answers please! Thanks so much in advance. moreVoting Question: Why this terrible writing problem "ccc" and "bbb" in my laptop? A lot of b's and c's are automatically written?

I've been scoring the net looking for the best free anti-virus program I can find. As far as I can tell, the consensus seems to boil down to these three programs. I wonder if you more experienced PC buffs out there in yahoo answers land can give me the benefit of your expeiences with any or all of these? for instance, which is fastest? which detects most viruses? which is the easiest on Pc CPU and RAM? which is the smallest program, which is easiest to use and understand, etc? but mostly, which is in your experience, the best? Thanking you, in anticipation, Wekslap. moreResolved Question: My computer's infected by some sort of malware thing.?
Okay, so my computer keeps popping up porno sites, and little bubble things on the bottom of the taskbar that says I'm not protected, or "infiltration" alert, and all the crap. There's also this constant, irritating pop-up that tells me to buy their sh.t and whatever, security alert, etc. I've tried Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. Two times. And it said that there were no viruses or infiltrations or whatever that was found on my second run of MBAM. I've also tried yahoo-answering this problem, but every time I try to run something, the stupid pop-up prevents this from happening, and nothing I do or try is working... Is there another way, for free, safe, and SURE. Like, what the heck is going on, man? I seriously want this thing to go away. Steps would be nice, and links, and a brief description. Thanks in advance. moreResolved Question: Missing or malformed from address?
Over the past couple of days, whenever I attempt to originate, reply or forward an email, I receive the error: "Message could not be sent due to the following reason: Missing or malformed from address" This only seems to be a problem with one of my PCs. I am able to perform all the above operations on any other computer I use. I have scanned the problem PC with up to date versions of anti-virus, AdAware, Spybot Search and Destroy and a-squared free software. I have gone so far as to delete and re-enter a few of my contacts to no avail. I chatted with Yahoo tech support, but they had no suggestions for a resolution. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. moreResolved Question: Horrible Computer Virus completely threatening my system!?
Okay, yesteray I recieved this virus, I could tell when all those "Spyware Tooltips popped up". So, firstly, I closed the internet, and disabled the connection. I quickly used Yahoo Anti-Spy, which showed like a couple of Trojans, a backdoor, and a disable task manager. So I cleared all of them. Next I ran PcTools Spyware Doctor (Free Edition), and the most common reoccuring thing is a TrojanDownloader.Suurch, and another occasionaly one. Whenever I deleted them via the antivirus, next scan they popped back up. I found the actual trojan File in my user's documents and settings, deleted it, but it still multiplies. There's some also new suspicous hidden files and programs that I managed to delete via CMD. Today, once I logged in, I ran the Spyware Doctor again, this time found loads of tracking cookies from porn sites, and now I believe this virus has spread to the 2 other users on my computer. I found out, that this virus has disabled Regedit, but I managed to squirm around and open it a couple of times, as well it deleted Folder Options, and one other item from the Control Panel, but a couple of times I managed to get Folder Options back from a little toolbar customization. I'm quite worried now, I've used Malwarebytes but very little things are happening, the only way I can install anti-virus is to go on the comp. I'm using now, download it here, put on a CD, then install them back on my computer. The virus has disabled system restore for me, so that's how I think everytime I delete those trojans they just keep popping back up. Please help!! moreResolved Question: Help with Blue Screen of death!?
Can anyone give me some advice?? I was running AVG and still.. I got the "anti spyware 2009" virus on my laptop. I Removed most of it with spyware doctor but it was still hijacking my google and yahoo search engine showing error msgs and kicking me offline. So I tried Macafee that I got for free from comcast. It didn't work either. I read online about an anti malware program that is great at getting rid of this virus.... I could not get to load though. I was directed to try to load it in "Safe Mode" However, I could not get the laptop into safe mode it only went to a blue screen. I could still use the laptop but it would kick me offline and very frustrating. I kept trying to put it in safe mode to no avail. I read online that you could put the computer in safe mode by this process: Select "run" then enter "msconfig "....in msconfig window click boot.ini.tab and check the safeboot box and select "minimal" I did all of this and now the computer is just going to blue screen it won't even boot up now. I can still attempt safe mode but it just reverts to the same blue screen...."of death" Based on this info can you help me?? I don't have any disks for the computer either. I had a tech guy tell me he would probably need to re-image my computer for 120$ and save all my info as well.I tried Malwarebytes but could not get it to open. and I could not get the comp to open in safe mode it just went to bsod instead of safe. to clarify. I cant even open the computer now. It just opens to the safemode choices screen and when I choose safe mode or safe mode with networking it just goes blue moreResolved Question: virus protection where can I get a good one ?I tried to go to a free yahoo one but couldnt get to it?

Let's disregard the cost and focus on the quality. (no free software) I have Norton 360 for my anti-virus, anti-malware etc. Iolo System Mechanic 8 for PC maintenance (Expired). Windows Firewall. I'm still skeptical about what is a good anti-virus, PC maintenance and firewalls (but I'm pretty aware of their tasks and purposes). I just want to know if my programs for my computer are good enough or are there any better programs. (all opinions are appreciated) 1. Is my anti-virus good? It's all in one program type. Should I buy the separate ones? Like just a anti malware and then a anti virus, internet security etc. Or is it okay? 2. I want to know other softwares like Iolo system mechanic because that's the only one I know. 3. Is the windows firewall good enough? Or do I have to get a separate one? and which brand? Pls. give your own a list of software brands of anti-virus, PC maintenance programs and personal firewall and state your own opinion about it. I a bit new to this. I'm acquiring information from anywhere I can (internet, yahoo answers, my relatives books etc.). One more thing, since I opened my computer 2 days ago, my anti-virus is always attacked a by another computer, therefore every so often I am always notified by an attack though it is always bocked by my anti-virus (severity of attack is high). I'm kinda worried, will it breach my anti-virus (norton 360, I paid for this.)? Or can my anti-virus handle it?? I can see the IP address and computer name though, but I don't understand the numbers. Thank you. moreResolved Question: I cannot sign in to yahoo on my home computer. My brother cannot sign in under his id either.?
