I received a text last week saying that my yahoo password was changed, and I went and changed it again, and now a couple of people told me today that they received a spam email from me twice this past week, but I never did? How can I make sure that it doesn't happen again? Also what is a good "free" anti-virus that I can use for my computer. I downloaded this week AVG, is this good enough?
Thanks!

moreOpen Question: Computer Won't Turn on, Possible Virus?
I posted a question yesterday about having a possible virus on my computer, but now it won't turn on. It comes to the main page then stops and takes me to a testing page. It runs tests to see whats wrong then it say the problem can't be fixed automatically. The messages that popped up a day before this happened said something like "An unauthorized person is stealing information and passwords from your computer." and esentutl.exe has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I have no clue what this esentutl.exe thing is, but it keeps popping up in a message when I try to open certain things. It keeps me from using Yahoo Messenger, pops up during using the internet, and stops me from changing the display preferences. (Screen savers, backgrounds, etc.) I have an anti-maleware and virus software. (1 of each, free downloaded ones) Yesterday it wasn't even close no not turning on, but now it isn't doing anything but running tests to find the "problem". Any clue what happened? When the first message showed up when my computer froze, I was on Yahoo.com, Facebook, Yahoo Messenger, and a CD Game. Original question:http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AkLFi0l1NX57q1PflKQPBjcjzKIX;_ylv=3?qid=20100616151808AArcT3R Please help asap. Thanks.
moreVoting Question: Possible Virus on Computer?
My computer totally froze today and this message popped u that said something along the line of "UNAUTHORIZED PERSON: An unauthorized person is trying to steal passwords and information from your computer!" and I quickly shut off my computer. When it came back on I checked "Start Computer in Safe Mode" (I have Vista) and everything was out of wack. My windows are now grey instead transparent blue. Things I had on my monitor when it first turns on are gone. (Sidebar and extra dock) Also, when I turn on my computer 29 messages pop up saying " esentutl.exe has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." Now, when I try to open ANYTHING up, it pops up, and only sometimes lets me go to what I want. I really don't know what happened. I was just on Yahoo Answers, Youtube, Facebook, and an installed computer game when it froze and showed the first message. I have AVG Antivirus and 3 other anti-spyware programs on my computer, but they are all free. Any clue what happened?

I have gone a little overboard downloading security programs. Well, as you will see I have gone way overboard. My Internet provider is Comcast so I have access to their free Norton Anti-virus but I have been using Microsoft Security Essentials. Is that a good idea or not? Here is a list of what I currently have on my laptop. Please advise me on what I could get rid of. Thank you!
*Advanced SystemCare 3
*Windows Security Center/Windows firewall
*Secunia PSI (i've had this for a while but deleted it this morning)
*Duplicate Cleaner
*Comodo
*CCleaner
*Windows Powershell 1.0 (I'm not real sure what this is or does)

moreResolved Question: AVG Free anti-virus: Toolbar item "Page Status" is not functioning properly?
I recently downloaded AVG Free anti-virus software for my computer. I like it for the most part except that the Page Status feature on the AVG toolbar (used in Internet Explorer 8) is not functioning property. For every site that I visit, the Page Status feature is always gray with a question mark. When I click on it, it says:
"Unknown - AVG Search-Shield was unable to scan this page.
AVG Search-Shield was unable to read this page.
It may no longer exist or there may have been an error.
Ratings are provided by AVG. Site owners please contact AVG for questions."
All sites are displayed as unknown. Even familiar and safe sites like Yahoo and Wikipedia are classified as unknown sites on the Page Status feature.
I know this is not how the Page Status feature is supposed to function because I have seen it on my friend's computer before and it is able to rate almost all of the websites that he visits.
Why doesn't the AVG Page Status feature work on my computer and how can I fix it?The free version of AVG does have the Page Status feature. My friend has the same free version of AVG that I have and his works just fine.
moreResolved Question: How do I get rid of this Virus on my computer (Part 2)?
Ok, here is my first question with the information-
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Al.hyZsYX22AGfkI6thYKNXty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20100531052545AAMLdrL
Everyone told me to simply go to http://www.malwarebytes.org and download the free trial, I did, but when I tried to run it, the same pop-up came up, and said it was infected so it wouldn't let me actually download it/run it.
Also, the same of the other anti-virus site the pop-ups are trying to lead me to is called www.antispy-guide.net
Almost every program I try to click on is infected, it seems only fire fox 3 and my original anti-virus programs are the things I can actually open.
My anti-viris software has so far detected 2 things, "malwarebot" count 14 which is quarantined and a Adware.Lop count 19 which is says I need a partial reboot ti remove.
Any other suggestions for me here? xD

moreVoting Question: Help! Internet speed has dropped?
Ok, this one's a toughy and that's why i turned to yahoo!
Here's the situation, I've had an average of 7 to 10 mbps broadband cable modem from Comcast
for almost a year now. Love'em, they're great, no problems there.
Just recently for the last week my connection speed has dropped substantially.
Speedtest.net is showing an oddly very steady 0.95 ~ 0.99 mbps d/l and 0.35 u/l.
I've contacted Comcast and they've told me (through email) that the line is fine on their end and to powercycle (turning everything off/on) the modem etc...
I've exhausted solutions like virus hunting, powercycling, checking wires around my home, nothing seems to make a difference. I find it very strange that it all of a sudden is fixated at 0.95 mbps at any time of the day and each day this week...and without so much as a spike after powercycling.
Is there a specific reason to these symptoms? What can I figure out before I send a creepy technician over here?
Some specs: Win XP pro x64, 4G ram, 3.2ghz Xeon (2) *its a hp workstation*
Avast! free anti-virus
Thanks your comments.Not on Wi-Fi
Actually I've had the cable modem on a wireless router, but I've tested it directly connected to the PC as well with the same 0.95mbps result. Also I'd like to add that the only thing slow is the connection. Loading pages, java apps, videos, that sort of thing. The PC itself is still running as fast as ever. No CPU hogs or anything like that.

I have a Acer Mini Laptop and I use firefox as my browser. It has a google and yahoo toolbar. My virus protector is Avast Free Anti virus. I use SuperAntiSpyware free edition. My scanner is HouseCall and I use WOT. Do I have a safe secure laptop? Can it get safer?
moreResolved Question: ISP giving me a virus?
I have a tricky problem. I think my ISP (Internet service provider) Comcast is giving my computer a virus.
Let me explain. About a month ago, I noticed that Smartscreen filter (which monitors downloads in Internet Explorer) was "unavailable" (and still is). Worried about this, I went looking to download more malware/virus protection from sites such as Spybot: Search and Destroy and AVG Free. For Spybot, it says "Server not found" and the text on the AVG site is so scrambled and layered on top of itself, I can barely read it.
I then noticed that Windows could not update, including Windows Defender. My old anti-virus, Webroot, was being blocked from updating as well. I was also getting very realistic pop-up warnings titled "Windows Internet Security" warning me that "Your browser is run in unsafe mode" (That's a direct quote, the poor English is not mine) and that it wants my permission to download "Online Protection Tool." Even if I click "Don't allow" it starts the download, which I think is the rogue security program Internet Security 2010.
I found a site that showed me how to remove Internet Security 2010 without getting blocked using Malwarebytes, ( http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-internet-security-2010 ) . After running a scan, I come up with two infections, names copied from the log below:
Registry Data Items Infected:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\DhcpNameServer (Trojan.DNSChanger) -> Data: 93.188.161.105 93.188.166.105 1.2.3.4
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\{fb6d127e-1638-46aa-be60-19496e8dbad3}\DhcpNameServer (Trojan.DNSChanger) -> Data: 93.188.161.105 93.188.166.105 1.2.3.4
Of course, I chose to have them removed and restarted my cpu. If I don't connect to the internet, I don't see them in follow-up scans. BUT, if I do connect to the internet, even for a few moments, the same infections show up in scans.
I called Comcast, and a tech helped me uninstall Webroot and install Norton (which Comcast offers for free), which is somehow not blocked from updating despite Windows still being unable to. Norton does not find any infections in its scans, but I still get the fake warnings and I am still misdirected to sites that are not what I clicked on.
The comcast tech said that there's no way I have a virus. Malwarebytes still finds the same infections every time. What should I do? Please help! My email is splendorsecond@yahoo.com if you have questions or need to IM a solution.
Also, I can't really change ISP, since Comcast is the only one that offers in my area...

moreResolved Question: I recently put a question out and received some help with a free anti-virus download, MS Security Essentials?
I recently put a question out and received some help with a free anti-virus download, MS Security Essentials was the one recommended.
{I did have a Mcafee on my system, but the one year free trail has run out, so I brought a Norton, but I cannot find the ‘booklet’ for it and therefore cannot load it, damn inconvenient.}
Now I have used the MS Security Essentials, and as I thought there was a slight problem with my computer and after a full scan the MS Security Essentials picked out a ‘Trojan virus’ and said the following concerning it:
‘This program is dangerous and executes commands from an attacker.’
It then appeared to ‘Quarantined the Trojan virus,’ rather then ‘remove’ it completely.
My concern now is:
a} Is ‘Quarantining the Trojan virus’ sufficient in itself or does it need to be removed completely?
b} Can it still be used by the ‘attacker’ if it is just Quarantined?
c} Should I now seek out a anti-virus program which will remove the Trojan virus completely rather than just put it in Quarantined, and if so, do you know of one?
I would very much appreciate any help in this area as I am not one for the ins and outs of the Internet, in fact I rarely use it; but I do enjoy the Yahoo jungle in Questions and Answers.
Thanks in advance.Thank you Luke.TempoOne: While I do not understand all you are saying, I do understand the main thrust of your answer.
Many thanks.
moreResolved Question: Is there any free software that can help my MacBook Pro run faster?
I just had my macbook this february 2010 and now it seems to be running slow. My friends says i dont need any anti virus for this. But is there any program or software that i can download for free to clean up my computer? Like Ccleaner for windows. This is my first time to have a mac that's why im not yet used to it. Before when i open the power button and it loads up real fast. Plus when i use my other programs like yahoo messenger and mozilla it runs fast too. Now it takes up for about 7minutes to load up. What should i do? Hope you guys could help. Thanks :-)
moreResolved Question: How can I fix my computer? Can you take a look at these problems? Can I fix this myself?
I started getting these annoying adware messages. You need to sign for some anti-virus software. It appeared very time I logged on to the Internet. It was so annoying. I got desperate. I opened my Task Manager, went to Processes and began to End Process anything that looked unusual or weird. The adware went away but so too went several of my short cuts to programs. Now I cannot access the internet through Internet Explorer. I have to use a a window called watch.wtc to get into the Internet. My webcam not longer works on Yahoo Instant Messenger and MSN Hotmail. I used to be able to use Instant Messenger on its own. Now it only works on my Yahoo and Hotmail emails and I no longer have webcam option which really sucks. Several of my free music software programs I downloaded are no longer working.
I have thought of taking my PC to Best Buy and have the Geek Squad work on it. I will get an estimate from them of how much the repairs will cost. If that is too much, I will see what it will cost to wipe the hard disk clean and then just put the entire PC in the dump and get a new PC.
I could also just leave the PC as is and get a laptop and a wireless router. The stupid thing still works its just that my webcam is gone and the music software is gone
Now I can't convert my cassette demos on to MP3. I was also chatting on line with some women in Canada and elsewhere that would cost me a fortune to talk on my cell phone. Those girls were really cute and now my webcam doesn't work and this really sucks!
What should I do?
I have tried to load the recovery disk that came with my Gateway computer and the PC will not load the Windows XP disc that came with the PC. I never made a recovery disc myself for the PC. I have a Gateway from 2003 Windows XP. It is too old to upgrade to Windows Vista which is what I need if I were to purchase any descent music recording software like Cakewalk. I have Audacity. Should I say I "had" free Audacity software but now it's no longer working.
What can I do? Help!

moreResolved Question: Do you think the W32/Sality.Y virus was already removed from my computer?
It almost spread in my pc and some of my .exe such as Yahoo messenger cannot be used anymore.
Mozilla was affected too but I installed another one that's why I can use it again...I have Clamwin Anti-virus and used it, scanned it and set it to "remove infected files after scan"...
I have the other anti-virus which I had been using ever since it was reformatted for the first time. It is Avira Personal AntiVir. I updated it for now.
I also cleaned my registry using CCleaner(Crap cleaner) and I fixed registry issues using CCleaner too.
The result of the overall pc scan from Avira is 0 virus detections.
In the Clamwin anti-virus, the result is 0 detections about w32.sality.y but 1 detection in trojan.gamehack
Is it removed already?Or not? If not, help me clean this virus and remove it completely from my pc?
BQ: I couldn't use my newly downloaded Yahoo messenger version 10. The error messages says:
"The application failed to initialize properly.(numbers) Click Ok to terminate the program"
What should I do about this? And the previous YM that was infected isn't working, although it is already virus-free.why?
moreVoting Question: why is this happening to my laptop, what has clean up anti virus done to it, why can't i use mcafee anymore?
sorry it's a bit long but i have to explain everything
I have subscribed to Mcafee and it has mainly protected my computer (although i have a free version of super anti virus which is very effective in removing viruses) For a while my laptop (acer aspire 5315) has been running smoothly but occasionally slow and it tells me when surfing the net if a site is contains viruses or not. So one day i entered a site which mcafee said hadn't been checked yet and automatically this program called CLEAN UP ANTI VIRUS was downloaded on to my laptop and it came up saying i my computer is at a very big risk of being attacked which made me panicky so i downloaded it and it started running on my computer and stopped me from using the internet and it won't let me use mcafee (well it wouldn't work if i clicked on it). So i tried deleting it so many times but it kept popping back and bringing new virus threats and it says the only way i can remove the viruses is if i buy it (which i am not willing to do since i have a very long subscription time left with mcafee). So luckily i had super anti spyware rescue, with a scan it showed that i had 1 rouge virus and 36 adware tracking cookies. Luckily once it deleted everything it deleted clean up anti virus as well. so the internet is working now but mcafee doesn't work when i click on it and on every single website i go to the little symbol that showed me if the site is dangerous or not just shows grey even o the sites that i know are ok like yahoo.
Why is this happening and how can i get everything back to normal with mcafee

moreResolved Question: How to delete an unwanted “trusted site” – which it is not - planted maliciously on my computer?
I have been trying to cure the problem of seeing the “Yahoo! Mail” website (of all websites) blocked and flagged as unsafe. [To this end, I have already posted a separate question in this particular regard on Yahoo! Answers – after (1) having entered “Yahoo! Mail” as a trusted site” as an Internet Explorer option and after (2) having tried some anti-virus or anti-malware programs or registry-cleaning programs and stuff, but to no avail.]
And I have found out that a website has been maliciously planted as a “trusted site” in my Internet Explorer options. This unwanted site is: http(s): //*.icbc.com.cn
According to my ISP (or Internet Service Provider), this website is purportedly owned by the INDUSTRIAL AND COMMERCIAL BANK OF CHINA, which is a bank in (Red) China - I do not want to sound political, but I just want to make it clear that I am referring to Communist China, as opposed to the democratically-run free country known as “Republic of China”, hence, the qualifying adjective “Red”.
Unfortunately, my ISP has told me that I have to find a way to get rid of it myself.

moreResolved Question: Question about "Secure Logon" (CTRL + ALT + DELETE) and anti-malware programs....?
I have a Vista laptop, and I want to make it as secure as possible (I am so afraid to go on any sites other than things like my university's student webpage, wikipedia, and yahoo answers, etc. Even tmz.com I'm afraid of, LOL) because my old computer got infested with viruses and completely crashed, most likely due to my mother clicking on ads. Anyway, I want to know the purpose of the "Secure Logon" (CTRL + ALT + DELETE) please. My uni's computers make us do this... is there any advantage of doing it on my home laptop too?
Also, as far as antimalwares go, which of these is the best: McAfee, Norton, ESET, Kapersky, Trend Micro, or Bit Defender? I'm talking about the full 'security suite' versions, i.e. with the firewalls, antispyware if available, etc., so not just the antiVIRUS. I don't really feel comfortable using the free ones....
Thanks so much!
moreResolved Question: Help with avg and yahoo anti-spy!?
I have avg free anti virus plus yahoo's anti-spy powered by computer associates (came with yahoo toolbar). When i ever i scan my computer for viruses with both. Avg usually detects a lot of tracking cookies and yahoo anti-spy never does. Yahoo anti-spy detects a lot of viruses, avg doesn't. What is wrong with both of them? Also i quick scan with yahoo anti-spy once, then quick scan again and it sometimes finds viruses the first time, and sometimes the second time. What should I do?
moreResolved Question: Why am i suddenly getting pop-ups and my free Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is not working anymore?
Last week I noticed that I started getting these pop-ups, usually the one about "Congratulations! your the ?(number) visitor." So thought I had some malware and tried to run Malwarebytes. But I can't even open it now! My computer says it cannot find it. So i uninstalled it and attempted to reinstall it won't let me. It says its can't install a certain file. I even installed 2 other free Anti-spy programs, Yahoo Anti-Spy and Ad-Aware and ran them but the pop-ups still come up. I ran McAfee too and there are no viruses. So wats goin on with my computer?
moreResolved Question: good non-intrusive yet free antivirus program.?
Ok, so I had AVG Free for awhile, but got really pissed when i relised that i really had no control over it. Meaning that when it found something it thought was a virues(Like a keygen), it would do its thing and not let be involved in the removal process. I had no control over what files it was removing and what files it wans't. I downloaded malware bytes free version and that has been doing me well. though lately, for some reason, it has not been working. So my question to you is, Do you know of any good anti-virus software that will let me do what i want to do, and yet is still good at detecting the virues. thanks.
Also, how are you guys liking the new Yahoo answers?

Dear Yahoo Answer Community,

I got SUPERanti spyware free edition to get rid of it, but now i can't access certain programs without having the 'Open With' window popping up and asking me which 'accessable' programs that it wants me to run it with (this includes the control panel and internet options)
I was wondering if someone could help me with this

moreResolved Question: How do I remove Kollah, Kollah ADV and Sillydl gyi trojans?
I removed my older version 6 or7 Yahoo! Toolbar and installed the new Version 8. I ran the CA Spyware Scan and it indicated 3 different Trojan viruses present. I scanned with just "Live Updated" Symantec Anti virus, Spybot and Windows Defender. They showed nothing. I reran the CA Spyware and it still showed the viruses present. I downloaded and ran 2 different free anti spyware programs then reran CA and it no longer showed the viruses present. Could the CA have showed a "false positive"? Could the viruses imbed and hide from all this scanning? Where should I go from here?

moreResolved Question: How come everyone always think that an free anti virus and anti spy ware program are better when It's not ?
It's getting pretty annoying because almost everyone thinks that an free anti virus and free anti spyware programs are better than the ones that you pay for at the store. This guy named optimus answered my question very stupidly, he says that saying Norton is protecting my computer is like saying Osama Bin Laden is protecting America. How Ignorant is that ?? He also says I'm not computer savvy while I am really computer savvy, I'm a 1st Year IN College Computer Technology Student so don't call me not Computer Savvy. Also, I've exprienced with free anti virus and anti spyware programs before like Avast Anti Virus And Spybot Search & Destroy and those things did nothing for me when I got infected really bad. Avast Anti virus Lets The virus get into my computer and then alerts me while Norton stops it before it gets into my Computer. I had one hard drive that crashed thanks to Free Anti Virus programs that did nothing. How come everyone thinks that Free Anti Virus And Anti Spyware programs are better than the ones that you pay for ?? In my experience the ones you pay for are more effective and more secure than the free ones. I'm using Norton Internet Security and It has total protection. Can anyone please tell me why people thinks that free ones are better when it's not ??
Check out what he said in my other question

moreResolved Question: Do I need a separate anti-spyware program with Avast! 5.0 Free Antivirus?
I know that Avast!, like many other anti-virus programs, has spyware protection as well as virus protection. However, many people on Yahoo! Answers seem to think that it is necessary to have a separate anti-spyware program too, like MalwareBytes, Super Anti-Spyware, Spybot Search & Destroy or Lavasoft Ad-Aware. Who should I believe?
Any help will be appreciated. Including a link with a trusted site on would be great. Also, is there any dangers of having two programs with spyware protection?

moreResolved Question: Sims 2 please read and Help??????????????????
I'm planning to go buy more Sims 2 games today. I gonna buy Sims 2 best of Business collection and Sims 2 seasons. But my question is can I download them when my computer is infected? I already have the Sims 2 expansion pack, Bon Voyage and Sims University downloaded on my computer. But a couple a months before the file for does games became infected with a virus and couldn't be played but then it started working again after like 2 months. My Anti spyware and thing of that sort had expired and I didn't know and I was downloading the yahoo games and the free dell games that came with my computer and that messed up my computer. So now my computer has many viruses and infections. And I wanna but the bit defender 2010 for my computer protection but it cost like 99 dollars and I don't have that, and I don't think my dad will buy it for the computer at my mom's house(I live with my mom), so will the games work even if the computer is infected badly.

moreResolved Question: Why is my computer running so slow? What can I do (myself) to make it not so sluggish? Thanks in advance!!?
I use the internet for all types of things -- as many of us do. I watch video's, email and some data processing from time-to-time. I would tell you though, for the most part, I use the internet to watch television shows that I have missed and sometimes movies. I have AVG Free Antivirus program, I have used AVAST anti virus programs before and McAfee must be on my comp8uter because from time-to-time a pop up will appear asking me if I want to run it. Because my computer (for the last couple of days) has been running really sluggish I googled what to do. I defrag'd my computer and it helped for about a day. Today, however, I was sending an email (Yahoo) and the text was running so slow -- but didnt completely seize up my computer -- not to the point that I needed to reboot-- but WOW...!! It was slow! While I was typing and the computer / text seemed to be suspended for a few seconds, I could hear my computer doing some kind of gurgling sound -- as if it is trying to process something. One of my tech friends said that's called latent (as in running behind) and although I *get* that! (Grin) I want to know what I can do (for free) to unclog my computer. I apologize for the ignorant description I have given -- but I'm not a computer geek -- but I absolutely love using my computer! Could someone explain what's going on? I empty my cookies every day and sometimes more than 1 or 2x a day. To whomever is able and willing to respond -- will you kindly be patient enough to explain the solution Step-by-Step (on what to do to fix it) and in terms that I can understand??? Talk to me like I'm from another planet! I wont be offended! Ha ha. I will be SO grateful if someone can help me!!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!!!!
