I run Windows Vista and my Norton Internet Security 2009 expired yesterday (I am on another computer at the moment) so I bought some Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 (the PC World guy recommended it) to install - problem is Norton is still installed. How do I remove Norton fully so I can install Kaspersky? Many have said before that Add/Remove Programs does not remove it. Best offline way to remove it? every once in a while windows defender pops up and says I am infected with TrojanDownloader:Win32/Renos.jm , I click remove / delete and go on about my business but it always pops back up. whenever I open internet explorer it crashes, says checking for errors, then recomends I update my windows using auto update, I tried this, it attempted to install vista SP2, after which my computer would not boot up until i did a roll back, so I am pretty sure this is non legit and part of the virus. my computer also will not connect to most sites where you can download anti spyware / anti virus software, it will not connect to let me download firm ware updates for my current anti spyware, and I can not download anything form microsofts website ( IE8, malicious software tool etc ) , google chrome stays open and lets me stay connected to the net however, but I feel very uncomfortable being on with this virus, I have run the computer in safe mode and ran kaspersky , and malwarebytes but the problem persists, if anyone has any info on how I could possibly combat this virus and fix my PC it would be most appreciated.even in safe mode I can not download, or update my virus software, it says the webpage isnt available. moreResolved Question: Is my firewall protecting me?

This has never happened before but it did just recently. I have used Pc Tools Anti-virus to remove all the viruses on my computer and i have also used Ccleaner to fix all my registry problems. I have also used AdvanceSystem to remove all the spyware and adware on my PC. However, the problem still persists! I have even vacuum-cleaned my processor heatsink and even wipe it with a dry cloth! How can I get this off my computer and where do I begin to look? moreResolved Question: HTTP Error 404 - all sites, every time .....?
Posted this originally on the US Yahoo Answers site, 1 good response but issue still unresolved. "Arrived home to the g/f saying that she had "broken the internet" .... "sh1t" I thought, if she has managed to do that (did not put it past her), there is going to be a lot of angry people out there .... !!! Unbeknown to me, my anti-virus software (ES ET Smart Security) was 19 days out of date ..... no reminders, nice. Anyway, downloaded on my PC, transferred via usb pen drive and installed various new anti-virus & spyware softwares (AVG Free 8.5, Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware) some which found nothing (?!) some which cleaned out / quarantined 'a lot' (unsure if I still have the logs). Problem before was that couldn't do anything without warnings (from ES ET Smart Security) popping up about the viruses and IE opening and trying to go to p0rn.com & vi@gra.org. Seems like I have cleaned up the laptop now but cannot connect to any site (yahoo, facebook) without the HTTP Error 404. 'Interestingly' the auto navigate attempts to p0rn.com & vi@gra.org didn't bring back any content either. Emptied the browsing history & temp internet files, tried installing Firefox, have checked for updates to the A-V / Spy S/W and re-run scans ..... in desperation, tried 'netsh Winsock reset' in a CMD from advice here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892350/en-us ..... ooops, I now see I am actually on Win XP 2009 SP3 ..... Any suggestions (apart from staying off p0rn sites (I have not visited any p0rn sites (on that computer!)!)!) before I start taking random, drastic actions trying to guess my way through it? Cheers." by Callum Member since June 19, 2009: "Quick one check your Security levels in internet explorer (Tools >> Internet Options) it could be set to High and it wont let you access and also the content adviser ! (use custom settings to about mid settings) That's one of the main bug bearers for getting a 404 Oh run spybot if u can get a copy on it then run AVG again afterwards Try a restore to a point before G/F "broke" your box of tricks if all else fails your gonna have to do a reinstall of the OS or maybe a worse case scenario............... re-format Sorry got to go so no time to add more options for you Best of luck PS>> vi@gra.org..... is normally spread via e-mail do a scan of you messages including deleted and spam folders ..........p0rn.com ... not sure of this one but i guess has many guises" My latest comment: Ta for the above Callum, unfortunately still unresolved! Been using another PC, suppose I should give fixing it another try. Tried Internet Options / spybot / AVG +++ route, no avail. Not restored / reformatted -YET - I'm sure it is something simple. Interesting tho, Skype and file sharing still work??? moreResolved Question: Why can't I get rid of F-Secure?
So, here's the deal. Besides the fact that I have a junk IBM laptop, the worst part is that it came equipped with F-Secure anti-virus. Now, about a month ago or more, I downloaded Trend Micro's PC-Cillin anti-virus software, but I made a boo boo and forgot to uninstall F-Secure first. I know, my bad! But, now when I go to add/remove programs, it says a whole bunch of mumbo jumbo about restarting and trying again, but the "detailed description" states that "uninstallation is not allowed by current policy settings." What does this mean? I've already tried restarting (which I know is stupid because I know that simply restarting a computer isn't going to change these policy settings) and I've tried finding a removal tool from F-Secure's website. Please don't tell me I'm stuck with it and I am not getting rid of PC-Cillin because it's awesome and my computer is virus-free. It's just slow as hell because I have two anti-virus systems running simultaneously. Please help! moreResolved Question: Need help i think my Local disk C is corrupted?
