i got one of those anti-malware doctor pop-ups and it was able to install itself on my computer. i went to start menu and found it's tab and selected uninstall. it seemed to work because it disappeared from the start menu but then my firewall kept saying it had blocked an attempt on my pc. so i looked in the add and remove programs program and i found it was also there. so i tried to remove and it just pops up the same window as if i had encountered it for the first time. by this i mean it tries to run a fake scan on my computer as an advertisement. i also tried to restore my computer to when it wasn't on it but it failed to restore. however, i remember when i update my computer using windows update that one of the many updates are a malicious software removal tool. so i figured if i could find this removal program i could get rid of this dumb ad software. by the way i tried looking for the anti-malware doctor(dumb ad software) by using the search that is found in the start menu but it didn't find any trace of the dumb ad software. the only place it can be found is on the add and remove program window. i even have the new norton and i can use this to quarantine files but since the only place i can find the ad software is in the add and remove programs i can't seem to quarantine it. this is quite a pain if you know what i mean. can anybody help with this problem. by the way i guess since i "uninstalled it", it won't be caught by the virus scan, i already tried. mq: how, if possible, can i use my windows malicious software removal tool? bq: is there anyway to get this off my computer without having to use a destructive restore. thanks to anyone and everyone who can help with this dilemma. moreVoting Question: Windows 7 Security Update still Pending!?
I checked my (Windows) Update History after installing these three new updates this morning: Security Update for Windows 7 for x640based Systems (KB97982) Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 - June 2010 (KB890830) Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 8 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB982381) Then I noticed these four were 'Pending': Cumulative Security Update for ActiveX Killbits for Windows7 for x64-based Systems (KB98195) Pending Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Security Update for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 for x64-based Systems (KB979916) Pending Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB980218) Pending Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB979559) Pending All of them with this error code: 80242014 Installation Date of those four were June 10, 2010, today (The same day where I also successfully installed the first three I mentioned previously) Also it said in this window that popped up with the Installation Information that I may have to restart... Well, I restarted. NOTHING. I tried checking for updates, nothing. I Installed Eset Smart Security, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Kaspersky Internet Security and PC Tools Spyware Doctor. Will this have any conflict in any way? But now that all 4 of them are installed, up and running, I don't seem to experience any slowness or any kind of thing. I have Windows XP. Unfortunately, I picked up a virus after downloading Format Factory. I deleted the program after I realized there was a problem. Every few minutes, a window comes up called the AntiMalware Doctor, telling me I have hundreds of viruses, when I know that the AntiMalware Doctor is itself the virus. This spyware also brought another virus with it, I believe it is a trojan. This virus is nasty. It has disabled my system restore and deleted the tabs and links that lead to it. When I try to do a system restore, it tells me I need to contact the computer administrator, when I am the administrator. I made another account and tried to restore that way, but this didn't work either. It also will not allow me to edit my registry in the Run bar. I have McAfee Security, however when it recognizes the virus, it is unable to delete it and tells me that the virus isn't there. I also bought PC Tools anti-spyware, but it didn't help at all. I know a lot about computers and have tried everything I can possibly think of and everything I looked up. This virus has hit every curve, and I can't think of any other ways to get rid of it. Please, any help will be much appreciated. I will try almost anything, I have nothing to lose with this virus. moreVoting Question: Does having an anti-virus and a firewall protecting you at the same time slow down your internet connection?
When I'm just surfing, youtube, facebook etc I just have Avast protection on. But if I go on limewire or something which I know could give me viruses, I use Avast, Malwarebytes and PC Tools Firewall Plus protecting me all at the same time so I know there is little chance of a virus/malware getting through. But will that slow the internet connection down? Or has it got no affect? The reason I ask is because where we live the internet is very slow so I don't want any programs slowing the internet down even more. moreResolved Question: do i need internet to scan my computer?

My computer keeps bringing up pop-ups from the bottom of the screen telling me that I have loads of viruses (about 21) on my pc and some of them could potentially ruin the pc. This is the first time this message has come up and since I was notified a few minutes ago, I've had about 20 pop-ups telling me to buy anti-virus software (which I really can't afford.) Can I ignore this as a money-making con thing? Or is it likely to be a real threat because it's popping up from the bottom bar? What can I do??? I'm sixteen and would rather not give the PC to a parent to fix because of some certain sites I've visited. I have AVG antivirus free but I don't know how effective it is. Well almost everyone I meet HATES vista. I don't. I think that if you know how to use a computer and with changing a few settings vista is awesome. It shows clearly that Microsoft is still in denial, preferring to blame the user: ‘That state-of-the-art PC you bought last year might not feel like such a screamer after you install a dozen programs, load it with anti-spyware and anti-virus tools, and download untold amounts of junk from the Internet.’ It's true. I have HEAPS of programs installed, Avast! and Malwarebytes installed and my computer isn't slow. I love it. Sh!t, I like it more than XP. Who agrees with me? moreResolved Question: How do i stop a payment going through for a computer programme I don't need?
My PC suffered a virus, via 'security tool' (ironically a bogus anti virus programme). I download what I thought was a free solution with some Spymaster software, but just when I thought the problem was a sorted, spymaster tells me I need to spend 39euros to complete the process. Well I thought, I'd come this far ,so I'll crack on and pay it. When I checked my hotmail, there is message from spymaster saying I've actually been charged 70euros! and also saying that it is not necessary to purchase the full program as the free one will do the job just as well. Is there any thing I can do to cancel the payment going through? as I feel a little cheated by this extraction, not least the extra 35 quid they've charged me which has also taken me by suprise. This all happened this morning being Sunday. Tomorrow is a bank holiday, so maybe I can get it sorted before tuesday. Any suggestion? Many thanks in advance, everyone moreResolved Question: Is there a way to cancel my Spymaster payment?
My PC has recently suffered a virus in the form of 'security tool' which ironically is bogus anti-virus program. I downloaded the 'free' Spymaster software to tackle the problem, but just when I thought it was all sorted, a message tells me I need to spend 39 euros to complete the process. Well, what could I do?.. I'd come this far, so I'll pay it. Next I receive an email confirming I'd spent 70 euros, also stating that it is not necessary to purchase the full programme - the free download can do the job just as well. They tell me that now, but they've got my card details now, plus a few extra quid on top the price that needn't be paid in the first place. This happened about ten minutes ago on a Sunday morning. Is there there anything I can do to stop that payment going through? Many thanks in advance. moreResolved Question: What's happening to our pc?
My little brother used the computer while all of us are still sleeping. Currently, I'm using it now, but I think something is wrong. All of the icons at the desktop are gone. I can't even refresh it or right click. Our anti-virus is ESET, but i don't know why a "security tool" window keeps popping up. It wasn't programmed in our computer. It said that our pc is infected. I activated the computer scan of ESET, it is about 60% completed and the number of infiltrations is 2 but the security tool keeps telling me that a spyware activity was detected. ESET pops-up a window and said that it has been blocked. Does it mean that our pc is safe from virus? I don't really know what to do! I'm so scared T_T... I don't usually encounter stuff like this! I recently had a problem updating windows vista. for about 6 months my computer simply wouldn't allow me to access the update site and the program in the control panel simply wouldn't download. As well as this another of the problems i was experiencing was when i would click on a link within a search engine i was being transfered to a second search engine which had nothing to do with the link i had clicked. I contacted the microsoft support team and they told me to down load a malware remover tool. after downloading it and running a full scan for the first time it picked up 11 trojans that had been missed by my antivirus software. the link to download this free program is... http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?part=dl-10804572&subj=dl&tag=button You will find that when you download it it will attempt to connect to the web to check for updates, the chances are that if you had the same virus as me it wont allow you to update it either, but if you run a full scan it will remove the malware on your PC. I hope that someone else finds this as usefull as i did. moreVoting Question: Why does Windows Explorer (my desktop) keep crashing!?
Every time I access my computer normally, my desktop starts loading, and then it will pop up with a message that says "Windows Explorer is not responding..." (Windows Vista) It has never done this before. I have run SpyBot S & D and it says I have a couple of issues, but for some reason it won't let me remove them due to the fact that it wasn't run as an administrator, even though I AM the administrator and the only user on the computer. I've also run PC Tools Antivirus, and when I run it, it says that I have no viruses or anything. I can only access my desktop in safe mode and I'm sure I have a virus of some sort, probably a Trojan, but I can't seem to get to my desktop to do anything, and none of my stupid anti-virus programs are working! I know how to do the basics, but I'm not too familiar when it comes to trying to get rid of viruses or checking hardware/software. every once in a while windows defender pops up and says I am infected with TrojanDownloader:Win32/Renos.jm , I click remove / delete and go on about my business but it always pops back up. whenever I open internet explorer it crashes, says checking for errors, then recomends I update my windows using auto update, I tried this, it attempted to install vista SP2, after which my computer would not boot up until i did a roll back, so I am pretty sure this is non legit and part of the virus. my computer also will not connect to most sites where you can download anti spyware / anti virus software, it will not connect to let me download firm ware updates for my current anti spyware, and I can not download anything form microsofts website ( IE8, malicious software tool etc ) , google chrome stays open and lets me stay connected to the net however, but I feel very uncomfortable being on with this virus, I have run the computer in safe mode and ran kaspersky , and malwarebytes but the problem persists, if anyone has any info on how I could possibly combat this virus and fix my PC it would be most appreciated.even in safe mode I can not download, or update my virus software, it says the webpage isnt available. moreTop Anti Pc Tool Virus Links
