Resolved Question: Best free Anti-virus protection?
may i have some names of top freeware anti-virus programs? and one of the best shareware ! thank you ! moreResolved Question: What is the best or top of the line anti virus protection program to have?
moreResolved Question: Im worried about my computer..strange behavior. please help? 10pts best answer.?
okay, well my norton anti-virus expired about 2 months ago. i had been virus protection free for those 2 months. recently my comptuers started to act strange. when i first turn it on i see a pop up window that says "genius update" or something at the top. its a tiny little window and besides the title, it is blank, and disappears extremely quickly. (some people have said its just itunes, but i dont have itunes, and id never seen that window before til recently.) also, a few times now, my computer has given me the "blue error" screen, where i had to turn off the power and inproperly shut down. well i finally decided to download the free version of AVG anti-virus, and i ran a virus scan. it came back saying i had 2 "trojan horse- generic" or something like that and that it had put them in the virus vault. i googled this and it said that it was a "false positive" and nothing to worry about. just now i tried to download a program called paint.net, from a safe site by the way. and it refuses to download and keeps giving an error message that says "application not found" i am also still seeing the genius update window every time i turn on my computer. i am worried that somethings wrong. whether i still have a virus, or that i HAD a virus and it damaged my computer in some way. : / does anyone know why its doing any of these things? also, would AVG find and destroy a virus completely if i had one? thank you soo much, help is MUCH appreciated.thank you so much for the suggestions. seriously i appreciate it. i think im going to use avast, it has great ratings. thanks :) moreResolved Question: ISP giving me a virus?
I have a tricky problem. I think my ISP (Internet service provider) Comcast is giving my computer a virus. Let me explain. About a month ago, I noticed that Smartscreen filter (which monitors downloads in Internet Explorer) was "unavailable" (and still is). Worried about this, I went looking to download more malware/virus protection from sites such as Spybot: Search and Destroy and AVG Free. For Spybot, it says "Server not found" and the text on the AVG site is so scrambled and layered on top of itself, I can barely read it. I then noticed that Windows could not update, including Windows Defender. My old anti-virus, Webroot, was being blocked from updating as well. I was also getting very realistic pop-up warnings titled "Windows Internet Security" warning me that "Your browser is run in unsafe mode" (That's a direct quote, the poor English is not mine) and that it wants my permission to download "Online Protection Tool." Even if I click "Don't allow" it starts the download, which I think is the rogue security program Internet Security 2010. I found a site that showed me how to remove Internet Security 2010 without getting blocked using Malwarebytes, ( http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-internet-security-2010 ) . After running a scan, I come up with two infections, names copied from the log below: Registry Data Items Infected: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\DhcpNameServer (Trojan.DNSChanger) -> Data: 93.188.161.105 93.188.166.105 1.2.3.4 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\{fb6d127e-1638-46aa-be60-19496e8dbad3}\DhcpNameServer (Trojan.DNSChanger) -> Data: 93.188.161.105 93.188.166.105 1.2.3.4 Of course, I chose to have them removed and restarted my cpu. If I don't connect to the internet, I don't see them in follow-up scans. BUT, if I do connect to the internet, even for a few moments, the same infections show up in scans. I called Comcast, and a tech helped me uninstall Webroot and install Norton (which Comcast offers for free), which is somehow not blocked from updating despite Windows still being unable to. Norton does not find any infections in its scans, but I still get the fake warnings and I am still misdirected to sites that are not what I clicked on. The comcast tech said that there's no way I have a virus. Malwarebytes still finds the same infections every time. What should I do? Please help! My email is splendorsecond@yahoo.com if you have questions or need to IM a solution. Also, I can't really change ISP, since Comcast is the only one that offers in my area... moreVoting Question: NOD32 Antivirus?? Maximum Protection is not Ensured!!! Help needed?
NOD32 antivirus bersion 4 is saying that it has been updated, but reads this message. Kinda frustrates me seeing people recommend AVG, and advertising Avira as the best anti virus linking to 6-7 months old tests. In my opinion with tweaked features these 2 are the best suites http://www.comodo.com Their Internet Security Suite is kick-ass, it is free but effective and I have yet to see an virus come through their protection http://www.kaspersky.com If you buy their product and removes any rights to software Kaspersky finds as untrusted, NO virus even if it is on you're computer can do anything as all the rights for the product EG to edit registry is removed. This thread is also just to create some discussion and for people to see the opportunities out there Below is a nice suite made by myself (the products are not mine but the suite is manually set up) Anti Virus: http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials This is a pretty ligthweigth, product and it does not slow you're computer down http://www.threatfire.com This product is a secondary anti-virus, it was made to corporate with already existing products and tests done to evaluate this product has found it more effective then AVG, and nearly on the line with the top free ones such as Avira and Avast. It does work to run it with Microsoft Security Essentials with no complications. Anti Malware/Spyware Software http://www.malwarebytes.com http://www.superantispyware.com I consider this product as a effective tool to remove spyware programs and a really good assistance to Malwarebytes, as some malicious programs target's either off them it is good to have a back-up program Firewall http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com Web Browser: Many will say, Omg Mozilla is the most secure browser with their "WOT" Web of Thrust but I disagree http://www.google.com/chrome This has some issues with it's stability and can cause some complications but due to innovative sandbox technology I consider this the most secure web browser (Comodo also got an free web browser called Comodo Dragon which is Google Chrome with additional security features from Comodo. http://www.opera.com This product is not very popular despite being the worlds fastest browser, Opera just as Google is struggling with stability and displaying errors, despite this, Opera is the company which came best out in the time it took to patch up vital security holes You could also try Internet Explorer, they are very good at blocking malicious sites and though people say "Ohh it is so insecure" I suggest you look up a few tests, I personally feel this browser to be insecure, but some tests have actually amused me, and in a zero day malware tests done by Bunyvip Internet explorer blocked nearly every malicious site. I hope people will come with additional information to this, instead off nailing the thread as spam or "favoritization", I hope people will read this thread and decide what product to use, and perhaps people will find my arguments weak and counter-argue on them to create a discussion on wheter to pick :)hehe, I cannot come in with much In-put here but nice you participate, mind adding additional reasons to why you use the products you do so people could read and perhaps decide upon thatI am not an MS supporter, and infact Windows is a safer Operating System then MAC, the difference is that Windows is more exposed to viruses with thier 92% Market share, why would you think MAC is an attractive platform with a little 5% Market share. Every hacker laughs at Mac fanboys and their ignorance to security moreResolved Question: Digital Protection Virus?
A virus downloaded its self on my lap-top under the name 'digital protection' and at fist I didn't know what was going on so I just pausedfor a second, and then it started getting out of hand. All these notifications started popping up, 99% of them from 'digital protection', trying to get me to buy their product. So I just closed the screen, took out my battery and unplugged my laptop from the wall so it would shut off. I know that this wasn't the best thing to do, but I was nervous that my lap top was going to get more overrun by viruses. When I turned my computer on, a minute after turning it off. To run all the anti-virus programs I have (which include, Ad-Aware / AVG Anti-Virus Free 8.5 / Spyware Doctor / Spybot - Search & Destroy) to find that I had three new desktop links to porn sites. Now I'm just 14, I don't go on porn sites. So I put the porn links into my recycle bin (incase my mom or dad came in and saw the links (didn't want them to freak out)) then started running Spyware Doc. followed by Spybot S&D, Ad Aware and last AVG Anti-V. All while trying to uninstall 'Digital Protection'. I went to 'Add or Remove Programs' in 'Control Panel' only to find out that it could not uninstall because it was already uninstalled. That was BS. The thing was still trying to hack my computer! Right now things are more or less under control. I'm running AVG Anti-V for a second time just to make sure that there aren't anymore viruses trying to sneak in. (oh this all started at around 2:50 AM, it's now (At least for me) 1/4 after 5. And I'm asking this off my touch cause I'm nervous to go onto the Internet so soon after the attack so sorry if there are any spelling errors Now for my question now that I've explained all that has happened. How do I uninstall this program! And make sure that it's comepleatly out of my computer systemI've had descized viruses before, the last one comepleatly taking down my firewall and the reason I have Spyware Doc. Forunatley that time my dad was home so he fixed my laptop within a day or two but now my dad is gone for work and doesn't get back for a few days, and my mom knows nothing about comeputer safety except clearing cookies and history and my older brother only knows enought for takeing out a few trogans (about as much as I do), nothing near this bad so that's why I'm asking online computer land for help moreResolved Question: Anyone had a virus program pop up on thier screen and eventially take over thier computer.?

I am getting a new laptop soon and would like to make it last as long as possible. I've had my current laptop for over 4 years (It will be 5 this x-mas) and I guess that's a long time for a laptop to last. I've spilled around three whole cans of soda and 1/2 a bottle of water on it, have dropped it from the top bunk of a bunk bed once and just dropped it on the floor twice, knocked 4 keys off (I fixed two of them but the other two are permanently off (they still work there's just no key - it's the ";:" and "fn" keys), both mouse buttons hardly work from so much use, there's crumbs covering the keyboard, the fans hardly work (If they work at all), there's burn marks from it over heating several times, I have NO virus protection or anything and I'm sure I have several viruses and whatnot..., the charger hardly works and shorts out all the time, I have almost no memory left among other things so...I would like to take better care of my new laptop...this one woks just fine and runs fast and all so if I take the best care of my new one I'm sure it will last a LOOOOOG time. ^_^ Soooo I want to know EVERYTHING I can about proper laptop care but here are my main questions: 1) How much should I charge it? (I leave this one in constantly because it might not charge again if I unplug it) Should I just charge it while its on? I've heard its good to let it go completely dead a few times when you you first get it and every once in a while, how often and is it good? also any tips on caring for the cord would be very much appreciated. 2) How can I keep the fans/ports working good? How do I clean them and how often do I clean them? 3) How often should I defrag my hard drive and use the disc clean up? 4) How do I clean my screen (I know ot with a paper towel ^_^;) and how often? 5) Is there anything I can do to keep the battery in top shape? 6) How do I clean the keyboard ad how often? 7) I need to know EVERYTHING I can about laptop care, I really want this one to be in better condition than this poor laptop. How do i check if I have a virus? I was multi-tasking and I clicked on a photo and a page popped up?
and said my computer was at risk and something about my personal information could be at risk.. something like that and it said my computer needed to be scanned so i clicked okay and a window opened and it looked like a program on my computer.. like a folder on my computer and there was four icons on top and on the bottom it showed the progress of some sort of scanning. I freaked out and quickly closed it. My norton virus thing has expired and I have to pay to renew it. A while ago i checked my firewall and it said everything was going alright. When i checked just then, it said the settings werent the recommended ones so i changed it back. Norton virus scanner allows me to do quick scans only now and it scans only a bit over 2000 files. It detected one low-risk virus or something which i fixed. I then used windowsd defender and it said everything was fine. Should I rely on windows defender? It only does a quick scan too. What should I do now? I logged out of my facebook and yahoo doesnt have my real details.. and can someone give me a long-term solution to my anti-virus software problem? can anyone recommend a good virus protection software moreResolved Question: Here is some Internet Information?
ThreatsHow does the Internet create security risks for my computer? The Internet works by allowing one computer to send information to another computer across a network of worldwide computers. Rather than going directly to the intended computer, data often passes through several intermediate computers. Each intermediate computer has the potential to see the contents of data being transmitted — creating a security risk. Other security risks can be created from files and programs downloaded to your computer or sent via e-mail. Some programs, called 'viruses' are written to intentionally damage your computer and the data stored on it. Make sure security updates for your operating system (Microsoft Windows or MAC OS X for example) are consistently installed on your computer. In addition, ensure your firewall, antivirus, and anti-spyware software are up-to-date with the latest definitions. Does your computer lack antivirus protection? 'Malware' is a generic term used to describe viruses, spyware, adware, Trojan horse, rootkits, worms or any other program with malicious intent. What is a 'virus'? A virus is a program or piece of code that is installed and runs on your computer without your knowledge. Viruses can also replicate themselves and are often designed so that they automatically spread to other computer users. Viruses can be transmitted as attachments to an e-mail, as downloads, or via diskettes or CDs. Some viruses are harmless, but most can be quite damaging by erasing data or causing your hard disk to reformat. What is a 'worm'? Worms are a self-replicating virus that does not alter files but resides in active memory and duplicates itself. Worms most often use parts of an operating system that are automatic and usually invisible to the user. It’s common for worms to be noticed only when their uncontrolled replication consumes system resources, slowing or halting other applications and traffic. « Back to Top What is a 'Trojan horse'? A Trojan horse is a malicious code that is contained inside seemingly harmless programs or data. The purpose of a Trojan horse is to gain control of the computer and execute whatever it had been program to do. Many Trojan horses are designed to damage data on your hard drives, send back personal information, or corrupt your hard drive. In one celebrated case, a Trojan horse was programmed to find and destroy computer viruses. A Trojan horse may be widely redistributed as part of a computer virus. What is 'adware'? Adware is any software application in which advertising banners are displayed while the program is running. The authors of these applications include additional code that delivers the ads, which can be viewed through pop-up windows or through a bar that appears on a computer screen. What is 'spyware'? Spyware is software installed on your computer without your knowledge that gathers information such as surfing habits, for later retrieval by advertisers and/or other interested parties. It can record and send through the Internet your keystrokes, history, passwords, and other confidential and private information. It is often sold as a spouse monitor, child monitor, surveillance tool, or a tool for spying on users to gain unauthorized access. It can enter a computer as a virus or through installation of a new program. What is a 'rootkit'? A rootkit is a set of processes or files that installs itself on your system without your knowledge or permission. Rootkits attempt to hide from antivirus, anti-spyware, and system management utilities. Originally, rootkits were used on UNIX® based systems for benign purposes. Today however, rootkits may be used to create a backdoor into your system for malicious purposes - such as intercepting information sent from your system, logging your keystrokes, using your system for denial of service attacks, and other deviant activities. Rootkits exist on multiple operating systems including UNIX®, Linux, Solaris®, and Microsoft Windows®. « Back to Top What is a 'zombie' computer? A 'zombie' computer is a system that has often been compromised by a virus. The virus typically installs remote access software on the compromised machine and the 'host' machine takes control of the compromised computer. This is my school lap top and it is really important that nothing happens to it. Also, when I do have the money, which anti virus program offers the best protection? I have a Toshiba with Windows Vista if that matters... moreVoting Question: Help With Virus Alert Problem?
While using my computer my McAfee protection kicked in and said it quarantined a trojan successfully. Then a box popped up headlined by the words Windows Internet Explorer. Inside the box it said that my computer was strongly infected by viruses and I must cure it as soon as possible. Then a second box popped up with the same headline and inside it, it said Please Install anti-virus software. Then below that it said I was the victim of a HAckaTack trying to steal credit card numbers, passwords etc. Meanwhile a banner near the top of the screen was saying that Internet Explorer was warning me of possible problems installing things. Afraid that this was a scam I tried to close the boxes, but could not. Eventually I manually shut down the computer. My question is was this a warning from Windows, or some scam to actually infect my computer? By shutting off the computer have I let some infection occur or did I stop it? What is the proper thing to do when pop ups such as these occur? Does Windows actually send out warnings or are these messages from someone trying to infect my computer? Thanks for any help.badaz06, I rebooted and went back online and nothing popped up this time. I also did a quick scan on the MacAfee and it said no action on my part required. Does this mean there is no problem? moreVoting Question: Laptop Won't turn on. Please help.?
Hey everyone! I have a Toshiba Laptop that is a bit on the older side and has been through a lot of banging around. The battery would only stay charged for about 20 minutes before I had to plug it back in. Then my charger got a short in the wires so I ordered a new one from ebay. It was the replacement generic one. When I tried to use it, I tried turning on the computer and the light would come on like the computer was going to start then it would just turn off. Then, I thought maybe the battery when kaput so I bought a new battery from ebay and tried using it and it wouldn't work either. I'm assuming it is the computer and not the battery. I can't even get the light to come on now. On top of all that, the power button could be the whole problem. It is broken and when the computer used to actually work, you had to push down on the power button about a million different ways before it would actually hit the little circuit or whatever that powered on the computer... I don't know what is wrong with the computer and want to know if you think it could be fixed although I know I didn't give you much information about it. Do computer repair companies fix things like broken power buttons and stuff like that. I'm fairly certain that it is not virus or spyware or anything like that. I think it is all problems with the laptop and not something that a virus could do. Plus I did have anti-virus protection and all that jazz. What type of repair would that be? Hardware? I just don't know who to talk to about trying to fix it since most repair places focus on anti-virus and speeding up computers and not actually fixing broken pieces on the computer. If I call a repair company what type of problem do I tell them I have rather than giving them a whole paragraph of probably meaningless information. Thanks for any advice.I wanted to add, the laptop was purchased sometime in the last 7ish years so it's old, but not too old. The reason I want to fix it instead of scrapping it is because it has TONS of personal things on it that I would like to have access too. My fault for not "backing up" I suppose. moreResolved Question: hi there.where do i go to remove cookies?what sre they anyways.10 points first best answer and advice.?

Viruses are downloading on a nonexistent user account.?
Hi. I have Windows Vista on my computer; because there are other family members who use this computer, I have multiple user accounts. At first, there was mine, the main account (Tommii) with others. Then, after the Tommii account started to not work, I transferred my files onto a new account (Blugosi) and deleted the Tommii account. On top of that, I have installed Bullguard Anti-Virus service. Now, when I go to the "Quarantine" tab (where you can delete virus files) there are hundreds-and I mean hundreds-of files on there like movie titles and weird names, and they all come from "Backdoor.IRCbot.ABHB", and install onto the "Tommii" account. When I deleted the "Tommii" account, it gave me the option of keeping the user files or deleting them with the account. I chose to delete them. Because I got rid of the account, why does it still exist? Why are files still downloading onto it? How can I get rid of the "Tommii" account for good?? Better yet, how the hell can I get rid of these backdoor viruses? Is Bullguard even reliable? Or just another hackjob of a protection service. I know these are a lot of questions, but a new school year is starting and I need this fixed quick. Thank you.Well, I installed Bullguard a while after the "tommii" account was deleted...I will go try to look for the user account again, but I'm sure it won't show up moreResolved Question: What free anti-virus should i download?

I have recently purchased a new laptop, vista to be more specific. When trying to move some things onto it, I also tried to install the Driver to my webcam, which required a disk. After the installation was complete, I restarted the computer to turn on the driver, after the computer restarted, the Driver was not installed, and in my Computer settings, the Disk Drive was missing. It will seem like it reads a disk when I put one in, but it doesn't load the Auto Play. This is not the work of a virus, I have used top of the line virus protection program and scan my computer twice daily and no viruses come up. I don't know how this happened, but I would like it if I could get some help. Really, what were they treating it as: an internet service for emailing? Response, “Ah, we had no idea people could get our top secret information from there. We thought the internet service providers were protecting us with their anti pop up ad protection features. We didn’t know they would use our information to sell it to our enemies. We figured it was a great deal for the taxpayers for us to use a freebee internet service provider. We immediately looked into it and found were bound by the acknowledged agreement. Some one should have read that agreement before clicking OK; but it was too long and none of use could understand it any way. The good new is, we found we can buy information from those internet service providers to become the leading country in the world again. I'm on the computer, and I all of a sudden keep constantly getting alerts from my desktop toolbar telling me "Windows reports that computer is infected. Antivirus software helps to protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. Click here for the scan you computer. Your system might be at risk now." And all of those typos are not typos, that's actually how it's said in the alert. So I'm thinking maybe this is some kind of trojan tricking me into purchasing fraudulent antivirus software. It's called Spyware Protect 2009, and when I click on the button in the alert to subscribe, the web site where I have to provide credit card information and so forth, has typos all over it (at the top it says "Powerfull Protection" spelled like that, and it's not spelled correctly. The alert keeps popping up telling me "INFILTRATION ALERT" and that the computer is being attacked by this and that virus. Is this a trojan program that keeps giving me this warning, or is it legit? I don't know whether to believe what it's telling me and subscribe, or to ignore it. Does anyone know a FREE anti-spyware, antivirus program I can get online to protect my computer? What should I do? moreResolved Question: How do I get rid of Spyware Alert 2009?
I have this virus called 'Spyware Alert 2009'. It constantly annoys me, telling me I have an infected computer and if I buy their product (via credit card), I will no longer have a problem and on top of that, a protection against related viruses in the future. Of course, I'm aware that this is false. I've researched about this virus, and learned that I need a Spyware remover to deal with it. My virus protection and Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware product does not seem to be doing a successful job in getting rid of it. ( I had a virus that acted similar to the current one, and Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware got rid of it smoothly. ) From the things I've read about this current virus, I've been given links to Spyware removers that will scan my computer, and they will detect it, and offers to remove the virus if I purchase the full program. I've tried four of these today, and I'm not in the condition to pay for a Spyware remover. So, I'm wondering, since a spyware remover is needed to remove this virus, atleast I think so, can anybody recommend me a spyware remover that will scan AND remove it for me for free? moreVoting Question: i have norton anti virus on my lap top everytime i log on my phishing protection in off?

I was using the trial version of AVG (the version with the identity protection, firewall, and anti-virus) to see if I wanted to get a subscription for it. The first night I had it, everything worked fine, no problems at all. The next day I have problems with internet explorer working. I figure its just because the lap top is still new and that it will work itself out in the long run. Well I have even more problems with it today. So when I got home I un-installed everything AVG and everything worked perfectly. I re-install just the anti-virus and I get the same problems. I manage to download Mozilla Firefox and start using it, it works just as good as IE did when I first got my lap top. Is AVG just not compatible with IE? My computer has had issues before and so I tried to remove McAfee and I thought I did but it keeps popping up and I can't find it anywhere in my computer to uninstall it, so thats one of my problems. 2nd I turned on my computer and it said "Dangerous spyware: many virus found in my computer such as : Trojan horse, pass caption;etc.. your personal Information may fall into "third hands" please check up computer with special software" Now on the lower half of my browser it says "warning! security support; your computer is infected! It is recommended to start spyware cleaner tool." I don't even have that on my computer I don't think so. I just downloaded "Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware" not sure what's that going to do but all I want is to get ride of McAfee (which keeps popping up) because I can't download a virus protector because my cpu is saying I need to uninstall McAfee but I have but I don't know where else it could be that it keeps popping up. The other night I got an email through Facebook saying that I should watch a video because I was in it. I clicked on the video and it said that I needed to install a flash drive. I didn't think that was unusual because you have to install so many things on new laptops. Anyway, so now every time Internet Explorer pops up it goes to this fake security center page telling me that I have a virus and have to buy this anti spyware protection. My laptop is incredibly slow now. It says it's a "Myzor" virus that attaches to exe downloads. I took it into Circuit City and they said it was $60 to do a diagnostic and could be up to $300 to have it removed. The laptop is less than two months old and was a top-of-the-line HP. They said the virus must have eaten through the Norton. Honestly, though they weren't that knowledgeable so I suspect they just wanted the $. Is there anything I can do myself? I'm 17 and suck at this sort of thing so I don't want to screw it up anymore, but I don't want to shell out that much money. Will removing Internet Explorer solve the problem? I also have Safari and Firefox so I don't really need it. Your advice would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you. THX EVERYONE! moreTop Anti Protection Top Virus Links
