I've tried the 14 day trial of Webroot, it will not do the updates, keeps freezing on me everytime, and i mean EVERY SINGLE TIME. I know it's a great anti virus, but I'm not paying for it. It redirects me to other random pages with recommended searches back to the major search engines and just cycles and even has a pop up when I search occasionally. 1. This all happened and kept happening while I was running AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 9.0.704 after full scans with updates. I uninstalled it using add remove programs because it wasn't working. 2. Installed Super Anti Spyware .....same as above 3. Installed (what I currently have) ESET NOD32 4.0.468.0 .....still the same thing Can someone please help me out here? I uninstalled each before installing the other including Norton that came with the laptop. Any advice would be appreciatedIf you happen to revisit my question. Hello fellow Geeks, Saterday I went to start my computer (Dell Xps Gen 4) and during boot Dos text informed I had an important NTLDR missing. I could do nothing but restart my system. I tracked down some information on how to fix the NTLDR file. I popped my windows xp pro cd into my cd rom drive and booted from there. I was planning on installing the OS all over again, but I noticed a repair option. Luckly after it repaired my system, I was able to keep most of my programs etc. I make this sound easy but it was like a 6 hour job biggrin.gif. Now I'm am trying to get my PC back to the way it was before the NTLDR missing issue and my pc wants to install "Security Update for Windows XP (KB956744)" I downloaded and I have the yellow shield icon in my right hand tray. But they will not install. I attempt to install, it proceeds, it closes. Then pops right back up saying I need to install them again. I ran a complete scan with Anti-Spyware and Malware Megabytes in safe mode and they did not find any infections. I ran the windows clean up utility and still no luck. I ran dial a fix and it states so files like jesetup.dll, imgutil.dll, inseng.dll, mshtml.dll, msrating.dll, and many more were corrupt in my System32 folder. I downloaded the security pack from Microsoft administrator's options where you can personally get the file your looking for. It said it installed successfully. But I'm still getting the installer icon. I also tried a clean boot, Msconfig>disabled all 3rd party services except my Nvidia driver service. I also tried a programs called Tune up utlities 09 it has a disk doctor. Pretty much the same thing as Window check disk. Still to o avail. I think I need those corrupted files in my system32. But I didn't want to go downloading the .dll files not knowing what is correct or compatible. I'm so stuck I have no clue what I'm am to do to fix this? I wish to run two anti-virus programs (not at once) since some has more features than others, and one can catch something the other might miss. Now traditionally, I know running 2 anti-viruses is a bad idea since one might detect the other as a virus - but this is no longer an issue, and wouldn't be a problem if I don't run the two at the same time. I currently have NOD32 antivirus. Should I go with AVG, Avira, or AVAST? I like NOD32, but it doesn't have the safe-search and other features that some of these free AV programs have. Also, can I still run safe search/web shield from these free AV if I have them disabled? Any suggestions? thanks more

I found three hidden files on my flash drive "generator.exe","winlog", and "autorun.inf", and my anti-virus, NOD32, says that autorun.inf is a "INF/Autorun.gen trojan". I wanted to clear up some information flying around yahoo answers posted by the Norton, McAfee, Avast!, Avira, Bitdefender, etc... virus software fanboys. (come on people! being a fanboy of Virus software is just sad!) Contrary to what the fanboys want you to believe, AVG does not work on file names alone. It works on virus signatures and heuristics just like every other anti virus product out there, so stop claiming that AVG falsely detects major OS components as infected, this is just a complete lie. If your AVG install IS detecting major OS components as infected then you are either using a pirated windows copy or you have gotten a serious infection. Resource usage is actually very satisfactory compared to other offerings; especially the common ones like Norton and McAfee! Even if you compare to the other free offerings like Avira and Avast which both use roughly 80MB of system memory with "minimal" installation options, AVG free installed with minimal options still beats them out since it only uses roughly 25MB. As for detections, they could be better. But you can't expect it to be as good as the subscription Nod32 or Eset Smart Scan for the detections over resource usage and AVG is pretty competitivewith other free solutions in this area. Remember, you cannot simply install an anti virus program on a Windows system and always expect it to come back 100% clean, no matter what brand you use, NO anti-malware packages can make that claim. I will admit that now that they've started using pop-up ad screens like Avira, I will probably switch for the better detection rates since the only thing keeping me from switching to Avira in the first place was all their ads. Anyway, let me know what you think.LOL already the fanbois come out in droves! AVG was made to detect the EICAR only in certain formats on purpose. Grisoft did want a method to recieve the file for file based tests that are also needed so they don't detect it in every format. Every company chooses how they will detect this.. originally they detected it in most all formats but found then that people couldn't get a copy to test other areas with. All Eicar effectively does is show that the resident sheild is up, it does nothing to prove the effectiveness of the antivirus since all antivirus programs can easily be programmed to detect it since it is always the same string of data!Thanks for the link to elitekiller.com for the disabling of the Avira nag screens though!Meh, the lack or inclusion of root-kit detection doesnt bother me much. Why? The problem with root-kits is that once a virus injects a root-kit into your OS kernel it is next to undetectable, so if it doesn't stop the virus it won't detect the root-kit. It gets even worse if you take hyper-visor root-kits into consideration. Prove to me that this is not the case and I will change my mind. more

Now onto the biggie! Anti-Virus. I have on my computer ZoneAlarm Pro which includes Firewall, Anti-Spyware, program control, E-Mail protection, privacy and Identity protection. So my question is, I have been using Malwarebytes for a few years now (free version) to do a quick scan every month and each time I run the scan it picks up on malicious software that has got through any anti virus I have ever used, which includes Eset nod32, Kaspersky anti virus and Bitdefender Anti-virus. My Eset nod 32 will run out tomorrow but as Malwarebytes scan seems more effective than any Anti Virus I have ever used am I safe to purchase the full version to use alongside my Zonealarm pro (still has 9 months subscription), or does Malwarebytes not protect against Virus's. Sorry for the big description.Just to clarify. Malwarebytes does have a real-time scanner and my Zonealarm pro has all E-mail, Spyware, identity, privacy protection. I have an Eee pc. Ok, so you guys with Eee pcs probably know there's that NOD32 Anti-virus thingy which you activate. I activated mine when I first connected to the internet to be safe- the license was going to run out- I don't know the password and info stuff to renew so I just installed another one- AVAST Anti-virus (Being cheap, I got the free one of course) the NOD32 still works, so now I have 2 Antiviruses-in order to activate AVAST I had to restart my pc. I turned it off...and turned it on...I log in...and then the computer just totally freezes. The mouse moves but I can't click anything. Sometimes there's that loading sign so I wait, and then my desktop icon and task bar disappears. It happened to all the other accounts too!! What do I do??? Please answer as soon as possible! HI, I done a spyware scan with SUPERantispyware and removed something I shouldn't, so I had to do a windows system restore in safe mode to get my computer to work Normal, but now its extremely slow. I have removed ALL spyware on my computer by using the following programs:SUPERantispyware (except for the 1 that made my computer stop working), malewarebytes anti-malware, adaware free 2009, spybot S and D and windows defender. So yea I have no spyware. I done a boot scan with avast! removed all viruses and I done nod32 online scanner but it said my computer is OKAY. I also done a norton security scan and it said no problems found. I done advanced systemcare pro and fixed all errors, defraged my HDD, fixed all registry errors and done chkdisk but my pc still is slow. It freezes alot when using firefox and I click on something! Soo whats wrong? Please help!I use firefox with ad-block plus and have a 6/mbs download speed. It has nothing to do with my internet, just my computer being slow and freezing up after clicking on things alot. thx BTW I use comodo firewall pro so I dont be hacked.Hmm. Resolved Question: Browser Redirect Issue/Malware?

Recently I've picked up some sort of nasty virus/malware that has been redirecting google about half the time I use it (it redirects me, often, to areaconnect.com, which, in turn, redirects me to a completely different [and random] website). So far, I've run the following programs to help me diagnose the problem, all to no avail at getting rid of the sucker: Trend Micro PC-Cillan Avira, Free Version Nod32, Free Version (lack of money for both) Ad-Aware Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Hijack-this, despite not knowing what really to do with it. Again, all were to quite literally no avail, and I'm getting rather annoyed, particularly because my computer already has enough issues as it is just on a daily basis. Any help would be appreciated. -Note, PC-Cillan had found a trojan not too long ago, too, just before my comp started acting wacky, and it said it cleaned it/deleted it. Just an extra FYIAlso, forgot to add this into the original question, I took wiped my cookies/temp internet files/cache/etc. at the beginning of this run. Still no help =( more

hi i have a computer i have got from my friend because it suddenly started to go really slow! here are the specs: Pentium 3, 933Mhz 256MB ram Geforce 2 TI 64MB 80GB hard drive And running xp the weird thing is that it was very quick and every thing but suddenly, it got slow like hell! i've tried everything anti-spyware (ad-aware, spyware doctor) anti-virus (AVG, avast, NOD32, bitdefender and norton) tuneup utilities registry fixers (1 click PC fix, regcure, registry booster. and i have 60GB free so it cant be that! i've opened and checked all cables and cleaned dust. i have defragmented hard drive! running firefox works faster! HELP! i cant afford a new computer so don't give me a link to that!! more

I have recently bought a new computer and I got McAfee Anti Virus with it, But it is slow so I removed it. I then downloaded a trial version of NOD32, and a day Later I received the Blue Screen of Death when I started it up, and had to reinstall windows. I am looking for a Free Anti Virus, that doesn't slow down my computer, and doesn't cause the Blue Screen of Death. Okay my computer started running slow (internet, installing programs, etc) when I download something or install it usually seems the fastest it will install or download is 30 kbs. Well I have the fastest DSL connection and it used to be way faster. I'm guessing I have some kind of virus but I'm not sure. I've used spybot S&D and NOD32, neither have solved my problem. I uninstalled Spybot S&D before installing NOD32 as well because I was told if you have 2 anti virus's on your computer it will mess them up. So should I just buy Mcafee or is there any really good free ones out there? more

Which is better anti-virus? AVG or NOD32? I used to have the free AVG which is working very very fine. Two days ago, I bought a new Hard Disk and the technician suggested NOD 32. Is it better than AVG or the other way around? Please tell me if my computer is "heavily guarded".
