(police thing)?
I was on the internet with my laptop but then my screen went black and then white. Then this page came on with a title like "British Police" and a photo of myself came up along side it taken by my webcam! There were a list of reasons underneath saying why it might have happened. I'm being genuine about this and I'm really worried so all answers are much appreciated. By the way, if you're wondering how I am asking this question, I am using my smart phone. So, what does this mean? Is this a scam? Should I switch my laptop back on? Could the police have made a mistake? moreResolved Question: YourFile Downloader and GoForFiles? Virus?
Hi,I downloaded the GoForFiles Downloader and downloaded the .exe version of the YourFile Downloader (but never agreed to the terms, so I don't think I actually downloaded the actual program) Anyway, after seeing some negative reviews and comments regarding these downloaders I am just worried about the safety of my computer. I deleted and uninstalled the GoforFiles from my Program Files using my Control Panel and I deleted the YourFiles Downloader Launch thing from my Downloads Folder. Next, I ran a quick scan with avast! Anti Virus and it said my computer was safe. As well, I searched for the two programs in my search bar and I got no results. Am I safe? I think I should be, but is there any way a virus could still affect my computer? My computer seems to be functioning normally, but I've never dealt with (and hope I won't have to deal with) a virus before, so I'd just like to double check! Thanks! moreResolved Question: What is a good anti-virus to get rid of a POSSIBLE whitesmoke infection?
I need one that can get rid of it, one that will not get interfered by Norton Internet Security and doesn't have god damn pop up things about it. Thanks~ moreResolved Question: Internet Security Software: recommendations?
I will need to install a new internet security suite soon. Bit Defender Total Security gets good reviews, but I had it in the past and found it impossible to update: updates would tie up my computer for hours only to result in the message "Download failed, try again". Is this still a problem? I have Kaspersky now, updates are fast, but I see frequent complaints regarding customer service. Which one should I buy? (I have a telephone connection for internet) moreResolved Question: Free anti-virus software?
Hi I'm not very good with computers and I'm terrified of viruses (I have had some really clever ones) I have Microsoft security essentials already on my laptop but I don't feel it let's me know when there's a virus or perhaps doesn't deal with them as well but others have said it is really good but I'm not sure I've heard of avg, avast and avira but I'm not sure if I should jump ship or stick with what I've got. Please don't go "oh I've had it for years and its fine but I've never actually tried the others" because that wont help me, I need some real reasons for or against them please because I really have no idea Thank you! moreResolved Question: What is the best program that protects computers/laptops from viruses, malware etc.?

My computer has been infected by some ransomware that claims it is from spamhaus and is holding my files on my computer locked until I pay $300. Obviously I'm not going to do that, but does anybody know how to get rid of this? I've tried several anti-virus programs to scan for it, but nothing has been found! moreResolved Question: Locked out of Facebook.. Help!?
Today, when I was about to message my friend, Facebook logged me out. When I tried logging back in, I got a message that said "Your account has been temporarily locked because we have detected malicious software on your computer. Malware is malicious software that tries to access your personal information, slows your connection, and could cause other problems when you use Facebook. Your computer can become infected with malware when you click or share spammy links. To get help removing the malware, click Continue. Once the malware is removed, you can log in to your account." When I clicked continue, it said "Click on the button below to download and install the Facebook malicious extension remover for your browser." I clicked it, and it turned out to be an extension for Google Chrome. I decided to take a look at the reviews and they were not positive. The reviews claimed that the extension was a virus etc. ( https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/facebook-malicious-extens/mhkafblddkepdhhjpmedkngigkjjknoa/reviews ) I tried looking for the malware on my anti-virus software (McAfee,AVG,Avira) and they all said I was safe.My brother's account is working. moreResolved Question: Is Windows XP secure?
I have Windows XP Professional 32 bit with Service Pack 3. I have updated my computer and I run Avira Anti-Virus, Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Center. I don't download software all the time, and when I do I am able to tell the difference between malware and actual legitimate software. If I have doubts I look it up and when I torrent something I always torrent the most seeded and leached torrent there is. I run scans every now and then. But after reading some reviews and articles they are saying that Windows XP users have had the most attacks. See I doubt this, because it was in 2010 and there were more XP users, so of course there would be more reported case. I just want someones insight. moreResolved Question: Locked out of Facebook.. (Same computer) moreVoting Question: A few questions about registry cleaners/anti-virus and reviews?
1.) My computer has been giving me problems and I believe it has something to do with the registry's, at one point I had PC tools registry mechanic however I didn't really like it so I am looking for an alternative that someone personally uses and has good experience with it, if you feel like it I would appreciate if you explain why it's a great program. 2.) Are there any big named companies that have done reviews about registry cleaners/anti-virus programs and give ratings based on in-depth studying of the program? I've been looking but I don't think I am asking Google the right questions, or if I am just not looking hard enough. I can't find solid reviews by companies I trust. By trust I mean companies like Microsoft where if they give you bunk information or half-assed information their reputation is on the line. I am not saying that small companies may give me bad information but the risk is low for them. I'm tired of being hustled and lied to by these companies, I've tried to look for myself with no good results. I am looking for a good registry cleaner/anti-virus software preferably with good reviews by a respected company. 3.) If anyone has the time to explain how I can manually look into my registry and delete/fix the problems. If anyone has any additional information about how to increase the speed of my computer let me know. I assume that anti-virus and registry cleaner's aren't the only way to increase speed/performance of my computer? moreResolved Question: what do you do in these IT jobs?

I been hearing bad stuff about Norton and always had. I think Norton is fine but the downfall is that it hasn't always protected my computer from viruses. At times I feel that I should switch to a different anti virus software. Should I continue to stick with Norton or switch? moreResolved Question: What kind of careers should I aim for based on my interests?
I've always had a gift for math, and I enjoy hands on activities, particularly when it comes to computers. I also have a gift for graphic designing in many of my computer classes. So my question would be, are there any jobs out there that would appeal to a computer loving math genius? I really love the quote, "If you love your job, you never work a day a your life", and I would like to aim for that ideology.I've also heard that computer programming involves nothing but writing lines of code. Is this true? If so, that's not a path I want to take. moreResolved Question: Can I upgrade this computer?

After having read McAfee's reviews of it's products of 2012, I wanted to review 2013 products. Are they good ? Or are they the same slow and stupid softwares ? Should I go with that or bit defender ? How can I block someone on my network from accessing my computer in any way? I have a roommate who set up the network and knows all about it, I do not know much about it. I feel at time he may be accessing my computer and it is an unsettling feeling, but I can not be sure. So I figured, if I can tweak some settings that would garuntee he couldn't do this I don't have to have this awkward thoughts of him accessing my computer. I don't need someone, family or friend watching my activity when I am chatting with friends on FaceBook or watching YouTube videos, who would? I have turned off network discovery, printer and file sharing, etc. I have DISABLED most of the Remote-Desktop and other Remote Services in the Computer Manager. Network Discovery seems to be turning back on after every reboot, so I decided to uninstall AVG Anti-Virus because I believe that is what was causing that. Is there anything at all I can do to safeguard my privacy with out installing any software? It can't be too hard to do. Thanks!Another question I have, just because he setup the network and it isn't under my name does that give him the right to watch all my activity because I am 26 years old, lol, I don't believe so. Maybe I am wrong, who knows, been wrong before after all.Another question I have, just because he setup the network and it isn't under my name does that give him the right to watch all my activity because I am 26 years old, lol, I don't believe so. Pros and Cons? moreResolved Question: Best free antivirus? Best free firewall?
Hey y'all, what's the best, most effective and free anti-virus to use? i'm looking for a free antivirus that can detect the most malware, quickly, (like almost immediately after the time of infection), and effectively remove all detected malware entirely, and a free antivirus that performs at par with a paid antivirus. i'm also looking for a free good firewall that i could use, to monitor the inbound and outbound traffic, and effectively block connections to unknown ip's and sites. i'm also looking for one with real-time protection. What antivirus and firewall do you personally use and how was it like (pros, cons)? I'll greatly appreciate your help. Thanks! * Currently i have McAfee that'll expire soon, but i don't really like it because it really slows down my pc, often puts my pc to sleep automatically when i initiate a scan, and has really annoying pop-ups asking to ''buy smtg now''. * Anti-virus and firewall can be separate, doesn't have to be bundled moreResolved Question: why is new mail not bolded on my pc?

A couple of people checked if an email from me received yesterday was safe to open, thus I discovered my whole address book has been used to send a SPAM email with no copy in the sent folder. The recent log in activity shows my account was accessed from India yesterday where all the other sign-ins say UK which is where I am currently based. I have since changed my password, but want to notify that my account was hacked so that Yahoo may look out for protecting us from this, especially as the address url was backslashed i.e. yahoo\.co\.uk where it delivered a copy to me at another address and did not go to spam. I actually think my account was accessed while I was left logged in even though our anti-virus, anti-spyware etc. software is on and up to date. This has been a reoccurring problem for a while, and right now is one of the rare occasions that it suddenly decides to work. What happens is that after pressing the power button, the LED light on the button turns on, the fans spin, and the three lights on the very bottom of the keyboard turn on (the first two are green, the battery one is amber, and so is the WiFi one, which is the sixth one). I've noticed that, when it suddenly DOES somehow work again, the fifth light to the right of the amber battery light - the one with a cylinder - starts flickering, so I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it. I have tried everything I can. I have pressed the F2 key after turning it on, I have taken the battery and AC adapter out and pressed the power button for 30 seconds then turn it on using only the AC adapter, and I have called tech support and they have told me it is a monitor thing, but I think it is something more. If anyone can give me help for if this happens again or how to prevent it from happening again, I will be extremely appreciative. Thank you so much for your help. moreResolved Question: What working Fields are in IT (information thechnology)?

I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing Management in fall 2011. Since then, I have realized that I am not as extroverted as I had hoped, and rather introverted. I hate to say it was all a mistake because I maintained decent grades; A's and B's. I noticed during my degree I excelled in my three or four Computer Information Systems classes. It all centered microsoft office software basics and network security theory. It really had no IT applications like Computer Science degrees. Now my question for you is: If I apply for a graduate degree in CIS, will it mostly be IT and about less management and business theory? I have no experience with programming or developing software. I simply have taken algebraic classes for my associates degree and business math classes: accounting, economics, statistics, and finance. If there is some IT requirements: Is it more elementary IT learning? I am more interested in the business aspect of the degree obviously and I just want to get some advice on whether I should pursue it. THANK YOU! moreResolved Question: Is it better to buy a new laptop from a computer store or over the internet?

Thank You & Happy New Year! P.S. I need to protect 2 items, a tablet and a laptop.Wow, a lot of interesting information, a lot to think about before I decide. I will state that I do buy my security software rather than scout for the free stuff, I always assumed it would be better but I don't really know. Kaspersky was suggested to me by a tech guy one time who seemed to know what he was doing. I've had Norton for 2 straight years and in those two years I've had email invasions 4 times. A real pain in the butt to fix! Btw, my tablet is an Android, at least I was told it is. It's brand new, a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.
