Open Question: not an average virus question...?

I Have windows 7 home premium 64-bit with AVG Paid and Downloaded Kaspersky Internet Security trial. I Just downloaded Wave To Text 5.58 off of download . Cnet . com, which i thought was a safe site. (obviously should have read the reviews. Half said it was a virus.) I'm stupid, I know. But when I opened it and ran setup, I got an AVG popup for the virus win32/funlove.corrupted. I did have to put in my windows UAC password before I ran the setup(Another moron move). My Question is 1) since I have windows 7 64-bit, how much do I have to worry about it opening a backdoor and letting other viruses in, and 2) does antivirus software (any but norton or symantic. I refuse to use either) remove the virus good enough to not have to do it manually or reformat the hd? Added Info: I'm my own computer tech. I started messing with computers back with windows 2000. I've I've been a safe surfer and have never had any issues with viruses til now. Sorry I'm a noob about viruses.not a detail, but what got me into this mess in the first place is: I have a magic jack phone and got home this evening to a voicemail from a guy that all i could understand was his name and the fact he had a package for me. He said a business name i couldnt understand. Open Question: why cant I go on any other websites?

i just removed avast, because the trial period was over, and now i keep getting sent to this one website where it tells me to buy an antivirus program. Is there any way to fix this problem besides buying an antivirus program ? more

OK, my computer has a bad virus and Sysinternals Antivirus keep showin up on my computer and it start scanning and gives me a list of files that got attacked..well normally i do system restore or i hurry up before the computer loads i hurry up and download avast but it lets me download it but when it finishes it doesn run the folder neither does system restore come up when i click it several times..i tried every antivirus or the ones i have knowledge of.malawarebytes.org,avira.com,avg.com,nothing works on this computer and please dont ask me to put it in safe mode with network bcuz that neither works ..anybody has something that is free and something that i can use as a trial and then i will go pro or pay for it.. thanx more

ok i just got this new pc. ill give u guys all the stats right below -Windows 7 home premium 64 bit -6 gig of ram -2.80 GHZ -AMD Athlon II X4 630 processor -And i think i have an NVIDIA Geforce 9100 anyways when I first got it I installed company of heroes gold edition. i had all setting maxed and it ran perfectly. I mean perfectly and it looked great. At the time I had Norton antivirus 2010 installed. (60 day trial) than a few weeks later i installed empire total war, (not having played company of heroes in a while.) it ran awfully and I couldnt play it it was way too slow. about 2 weeks after i got empire my norton ran out. that was about 4 weeks ago and i started to play company of heroes again accept, now its way too slow and i cant play it. please I NEED HELP. more

Open Question: What are some good antivirus, or antimalware programs that are free?

I use to have emsisoft a-squared, I kept renewing the 30 day trial and it was like having the real thing, but they fixed it, it was my favorite antimalware program forever, reasons I liked it -- super sensitive scanner, I didn't mind all the false positives because it also got all the viruses, it's interface was easy and awesome and didn't have useless tools inside it, and it was fast, so I have a pretty good knowledge of the current AV programs out there and I don't like a lot of em, can anyone find me something similar to a-squared malware program.Chris I went two years without getting a virus using common sense, but I deal with things now adays where I am at serious risk of getting a virus. more

I can't load it since my Kaspersky IS is expiring. I'm changing it to Norton Anti Virus (Trial version), and I can't open any *.Google.com! and if I open mail.google.com , the page is a little different , have the title "Index of /" and below it appears : Apache/2.2.3 (CentOS) Server at mail.google.com Port 80 . I've install MalwareBytes anti malware, Avast Antivirus, and Spybot Search & Destroy. Malwarebytes didn't found anything, Avast didn't too, and the first Time I scan with Spybot SD, It found something, I've delete it, but when I scan it again, the malware will appear again. a few days later, I scan again, SSD didn't found anything! Now, I can open any *.google.com but mail.google.com still can't! Why? I can access my google earth (when the first time I realize that I can't open *.google.com, I can't access my google earth), docs.google.com, and anything, but not mail.google.com. Thanks Hero I tried the Avira but it failed, probable cause is there is a windows update running in parallel. but actually there wasn't i turned off my automatic updates and i retstarted my pc like TWICE and it had the same response. :( more

Hey everyone now I have my Windows XP pc from 2 years ago and it was working completely fine and then this year only it started losing its memory (it used to have 29 GB) in Disk C: but D: never lost a MB and that's actually weird, anyway I scanned my pc with Norton before the memory got to 5 GB and it brought out some threats but I fixed them all and everything was fine .. then my computer's memory got to 0 MB and I had to delete everything on the pc in order to make it run properly, so I deleted the norton, all the pictures, all the videos, all the documents even the trial version of microsoft and the favorites and the computer restored some of its memory to 600 MB and it worked fine but still the space was so small for me to resume on this computer then 2 days ago I downloaded the CCleaner I heard ppl say it cleans the pc really fine and it really did clean my pc and I ended up with 6 GB and I found some guide on the internet on how to stop the pc from losing its memory so I went to Start > Right click on My Computer > Properties > System Restore > and I click on Drive C: then a thing will appear with a bar to move on the right or left it was to its MAX so I moved it to the MIN and currently I'm running a disk cleanup by Start > Run > Cleanmgr and when its done I'll restart the pc and I also download another Antivirus called Avast 4.0 its scanning right now and the computer's memory is going up yesterday it was 6 GB now its 7 and still increasing but do you think it'll ever decrease again and is that all I have to do cuz I'm not sure if that's all maybe it needs more so plz tell me if I need to do anything more I want my pc to go back to normal =[ and if all what I've done isn't enough then tell me what I can do or what can I do to stop the pc from losing its memory cuz it really annoys when every second a message pops up and says low disk space and I can't run the internet properly and can't save anything on the pc plz help I'll appreciate it so much and thanks <3 more

what i am doing is downloading many antivirus's trials. when one trial runs out i use a differnt anti virus trial. works really great and u get a pretty long period of protection. anyway, onto AVG. i downloaded a program (not going to name it) and scanned it with ESET smart security. scan came up blank, used the program, its works, blah. then when i open it again because i need it, AVG says its a malware called downloader. is it possible AVG is worng? more

Every few seconds i get a pop up saying application cannot be executred. the file wuauclt.exe is infected. do you want to activate antivris software now. My laptop came with a free trial of Norton Anti virus, which is about to expire. I've really had an awesome experience with them~ in the past, I've had Avast's free residential antiviral program installed on my desk top, and I was constantly getting viruses and malware. I know a lot of people talk about Norton negatively, but its kept my syste, cleaner than anything I've ever tried. I need to find a good, FREE, residential anti virus program for my laptop. I've had so many bad experiences and heard so many horror stories about programs claiming to be free antiviral software, yet they end up being viruses/malware/etc themselves. Can anyone speak on behalf of some residential free anti virus programs? Voting Question: question about hard disk failure?

i bought this laptop 2 months ago from best buy. i paid extra to have them do proformance plus. --basically they were supposed to install antivirus, remove all the trial stuff and make recovery disks. well the thing was so slow from the time i purchased it, i tried to do restore to factory settings from the disks, and they did not work. i got error messages and basically could do nothing. i had to take it in to them and they somehow were able to run recovery. anyways i have the laptop back and have it on for less than 10 minutes and i get a message that says there is a hard disk problem and i need to back up everything before failure. my question is. what causes hard disk failure? and is it covered by maufacturers waranty? i think it was something best buy did to my laptop. but i know they are going to try to say its not covered. the laptop is a toshiba L505Dwhen i say slow i mean it was slow to boot and also slow to open any programs. and it froze up often.heat shouldnt be the problem, i have always used a fan with this laptop, and the health moniter would send a message if it was getting too hot. thats how i knew there was a hard disk problem. more

Last night, I downloaded a file disabling the Antivirus Software. Without scanning it, I ran the file. And in two seconds my computer turned off. When I started it, my hard disk was in the condition like as when a new hard disk is bought and we need to format to create partition. I was shocked how that could be in few seconds. I performed many trials. Finally, I had to format it and create new partitions and install OS (XP) like it is done with new hard disk. Before there was 3 drives and this time I made it 4. Now I want to get my files back. Those files are extremly important. I tried with PC Inspector File Recovery. But it didn't make it. So, please suggest me any other ideas to recover my files with directories if possible. more

All of a sudden I've experienced browsing the internet with either IE and Firefox for an unknown reason. But I can download using torrent and update any programs that I have installed. I'm using a PC run under Windows 7 Ultimate. I have Kaspersky 2010 (using a trial key which will expire tomorrow) and Microsoft Security Essentials as antivirus program for the PC. I've experienced this problem twice already. There comes a point where I could browse the internet after scanning the PC for any viruses even though no such viruses are found just like now. Okay, so I clicked on a link that supposedly was footage of the 1992 trial of Clark E. Fields. It told me to download flash and I did. So I then scanned the file with McAfee before I tried to open it, nothing. So I tried to open it and the file disappeared. I have a trial version of an Antivirus on my computer, that came with it, since it's new. It runs out very soon, but I don't like it. I just wonder, the IT guys at school reccomended me Avast! Free antivirus because my norton trial was about to run out on my new laptop. I have had avast free for a few months now and our trend micro pro (ughh) on our home pc is about to runt out, so I downloaded and installed Avast free. I am not sure whether to buy avast or not, because we both access our bank accounts online and sometimes use Ebay to buy stuff occasionally and avast reccomends to buy it for online shopping and banking. I have a doubt. Can an aintivirus program manipulate your system to make you believe you have viruses and problems so you buy their product? When I bought my HP Laptop, I downloaded an antivirus program, and it showed that my system had problems even when it was new, and I had the trial version of Norton. I already bought Norton for this year, but I am planning to change it for a more affordable one next year, but I am afraid that they will bring other problems to my good laptop so I keep their product. Voting Question: Avast antivirus Wont uninstall!?

I recenty installed Avast Antivirus from a Torrent site, It had no viruses worked fine and came with a licence file. well when i tried inserting the icenese file it wont accept it so it was in trial mode, then i decided to uninstall it, First i went to uninstall programs and features (Im running Windows 7 Ultimate) And it said I dont have the administrative rights there was no uninstall.exe file but i found the fix/repaire/remove for it and it woudnt let me either.. Then i tried usung CCleaner to uninstall it but it wouldnt please help! PS sorry for spelling errors dont feel like fixing em more

I ran Malwarebytes on it as well (not in safe mode). Bt it didn't detect anything n said "no infected files". I rebooted pc few times n ran it thrice both quick n detailed scan bt not worked.
