Mcafee Anti Virus Review Questions asked

Resolved Question: reliable/good value anti-virus that won't slow my machine down?

right now, I'm running a Trial Version of Avast anti-virus, which works quite well, AND it doesn't slow down any of my other applications. I've tried McAfee, which works well, too, but it slowed my PC down terribly. I've also tried Kaspersky, which seemed to work well and didn't seem to slow my PC down too much...but it DID slow things down whenever it performed a database update. What I want to know is: what's a reliable and effective anti-virus that WON'T slow down my PC, and that's also a really good value for the money. I'm certainly willing to spend money for protection, but I want my money's worth. And yes, I've read the reviews at places like cnet.com. I want some opinions from "real people".AbCa, I've always been of the opinion that you get what you pay for. And usually, paying $0 is worth every penny. Also: At this very moment, I'm using a free/trial edition of Avast. Actually, I like it a lot. Just wondering if there's something comparable that costs even less (although I don't think $50 or $60 is unreasonable). more

Voting Question: Best Anti-Virus for a Win 7 Netbook?

Hello Internet, I recently got myself a nice little netbook. It's actually one of the larger netbooks some call an notebook ultraportable. I got the ASUS EeePC 1201N 12" Dual Core Atom with ION graphics Netbook. I am interested in finding the most efficient. Best Anti-virus for a Netbook. I don't want something like Panda, or Bitdefender or McAfee because they are very large and resource hogs. Most netbooks are pretty light systems. They aren't the strongest in the CPU and resources department so the Lightest, most efficient and Resource friendly AV is what I'm looking for. I've ran ESET NOD32 on my main PC for years and it's amazing. I could renew it with a 3 User Account instead of current 2 person. & use that. NOD32 has always been considered one of the best AV's money can buy. & it's light on resources. Whats a good FREE AV. I've used Avast in the past. How is there new Avast 5.0 Free Edition? is it still as lightweight and clean as the Avast 4? What about Microsoft Security Enterprises or whatever it's called? I've heard thats ok. Any suggestions, input, or Links to top 5, or Reviews of AV's would be appreciated. And what are you running on your netbook?malware bytes is excellent.. I use it all the time on my and friends PC's but it's not a real time AV.. it's for malware I need a resouce friendly AV more

Resolved Question: Is it safe to be without any anti-virus software? Or any recommendations?

I have a laptop with a crummy processor, so I cannot spare much system resources. I tried out McAfee which spotted too many false positives of keygens and trainers, used way too much cpu and was a real pain to turn off when working with false positives. I liked the interface and effiency of Avast until it conflicted with a driver for my trackpad, which made the trackpad freeze for a few minutes when I tried to scroll (it's a known issue would you believe!). Then I tried out AVG after positive reviews and found this to be the worst of all. Hard to disable, used 40%! of CPU during a scheduled scan which took 4 hours and went bezerk with false positives - even deleting one of my trusted programs! After uninstalling all of these, I've realised that I've never once gotten a virus or really anything worse than a harmless tracing cookie. I've come to the conclusion that antivirus software is just a big bag of hurt and if I were to stupidly download a virus from limewire or a bittorrent network, I would easily recognise it. Or alternatively, does anyone know of a program like Avast - quick, easy to turn off, smart about false positives, good for budget CPUs and free of all the whistles and bells that accompany such packages as Norton, AVG and McAfee.I've already tried AVG Free and it was the worst of the ones I'd tried. I'm also quite web smart and know not to go onto dodgy websites. more

Resolved Question: is limewire virus safe? and spyware safe?

i have heard lots of storys about people downloading stuff off limewire and getting sued. i have friends that use limewire but i dont know about it. is it a p2p program? and does it give your computer viruses? (i understand there is a chance that most of these programs can give viruses) i looked into bearshare and blubster, and the reviews were bad for blubster but i dont know about bearshare. i'm looking into kceasy. i have mcafee anti virus program, i dont trust the "free" ones. so i just want people's opinion on limewire, kceasy, bearshare... more

Resolved Question: Does Avira have better detection rates and real time protection than McAfee?

I know what McAfee can do, and I know the reviews of Avira, but I'm asking someone that has used Avira. McAfee has kept many viruses off my computer, but McAfee comes with a firewall and Avira doesn't. But I really just need to know about their anti-virus. I'm thinking about getting it or Comodo Internet Security when McAfee runs out on my desktop. more

Resolved Question: Is AVG Anti Virus, free version any good? + More questions.?

My mom just got another pc and wants anti virus protection (of course). We do not like Norton or McAfee at all, they slow down the pc's performance; in my opinion. Download.com has great reviews of AVG and I downloaded it. Usually free software isn't much good, what do you think of this one? What other software should I download on this new computer? Important things, please. My mom uses AIM, but we do not like the "Real" AIM. I use Trillian on my notebook pc and think its decent, albeit no one else can see the emoticons used on there. I've heard nice things about Dead Aim, but cannot find a free download. Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Computering tips (Repost to advertise this guide freely)?

Opinion : Well,it's troublesome doing all these steps to maintain a clean computer, the worst is,when the user doesn't know that his/her computer is infected. Cause not all harmful stuffs has Obvious Symptoms. -------------------------- Basic Browser Setting Browser - Firefox latest version Settings - Under tools button, click option,go privacy tab. *Un tick all the history settings *Un tick all the cookies settings, enable cookie only (not third party cookies) when you're login at website. *Untick ask before clearing privacy data. *Go to security tab, untick all the passwords settings. *Go to advanced tab, make the offline storage to zero mb Internet Options Settings *Tick all the correct internet settings, untick those save passwords etc. *Under security tab, make internet medium setting *Under security tab,Local intranet is High setting, will not have negative effects on the sites that you're viewing. *Under security tab,Trust sites is also High setting, will not have negative effects on the sites that you're viewing. *Under security tab,Restricted site is also High or Custom settings (Custom probably by anti spyware, etc like spybot listed the correct restricted site settings in there) *Under privacy tab, click advanced, prompt for first party cookies (applies to internet explorer,so prompt is the best setting) ,and must tick block third party cookies. *Under content tab,un tick all the Auto Complete settings. --------------------------------------... Anti Virus Softwares Recommend Avira,Avast,Norton but not Mcafee,AVG etc. *Avira highest detection rates, excellent scannings, but the free edition only contain anti virus protection.(Top anti virus detection rates) *Avast, second highest detection rates, excellent Boot-time scan and tons of protection layers of shields (Much more overall protection, decent detection rates too) *Norton 2009,i think it's an complete overhaul version, the memory usage is superb low, extremely rare, since norton is known as system hog, Previous versions used too much unnecessary memory, slows computer down tremendously. The detection rates is good, not sure how much though. The protection is advanced type as stated. Can try by downloading the trail version(Lower detection rates but memory usage is quite low) --------------------------------------... Anti Spywares freewares *Spybot search & destory, protects system settings and so on(Must have) *Spyware Blaster,an anti spyware layer of protection(Must have) *Advanced systemcare 3,nice freeware of registry cleaner + spyware defense provided by iobit. (Though the free edition lacks deep scan etc,but still useful) *Ccleaner --------------------------------------... Excellent Anti Spyware Scanners *Not protection, unless you pay for it *Ad aware 2008 *Malwarebytes *Super anti spyware *Of course, make sure you use the correct settings in every software you uses, common sense. Download Websites Recommendations FileHippo.com - Download Free Software Free Software Downloads and Reviews - Download.com Reformatting Use the detailed reformat instead of quick reformat, its much more effective but much more longer duration...it's safer though. Then re-download all the window updates from the microsoft website, and download an anti virus and updated it before you download any other softwares Scannings It's best to scan things in safe mode, and use the folder option settings in computer correctly for scanning purpose *shows hidden files and folders *Un-tick hide protection operating system files *Un-tick hide extension for known file types *Turn off System Restore, some trojans tends to hide in there etc. Obviously its to let it scan the whole computer or drive thoroughly. Scanning in Safe mode is quite necessary too,Safe mode is F8 key. **Credit to Twtew from Yahoo Answer, under the Title ''Basic computering guide''. Purpose : Obviously not for spamming, just want to post something useful. And nowadays theres a lot harmful stuffs even if you did not visit adult sites. Modified : To add this line, won't be replying to any posts/questions if theres any, just as i mentioned, just to post something useful only. more

Resolved Question: Which Antivirus should I use?

I want to install free anti virus software. I intend using the free Norton On Demand scan from the Google pack (because it doesn't interfere with other software). I have a problem with the second one though. Should I use AVG, AOL's McAfee or Avira AntiVir Personal Edition? I already have McAfee enterprise edition installed (ver 8.5i). That isn't free, its licensed by my company, but I discovered it has its limitations. I'd like to get some sites with good reviews. Thanks a lot guys. more

Resolved Question: Best overall computer security anti-virus software?

I was going to purchase the Norton Internet Security Suite 2007. I want something that handles the latest viruses & everything else. I went to read some reviews & they were 50/50 although some bad ones were from people who did not have enough space on their computer for the program & others seemed to not know too much about computers. I believe I had Mcafee in the past & am wondering for all of those out there who have a product that actually works & works well, please let me know. I am NOT interested in programs like the spybotenator (made that up). No sales pitched, just honest answers from people who have actually used a great product or a bad one I should stay away from. ThanksHi All, I do not want a Free one. I have AVG already. I do not mind paying for it at all. I believe it "you get what you pay for". I want complete security. I have never had a problem, but my father also have AVG & his computer is a Mess. more
