The best I can describe is :) $@^!00@!!! etc. It flashes and runs for a very long time. My Norton Anti-Virus subscription is set to run out in 6 days. I'm a comcast subscriber so I can get McAffee for free. I've also heard of this Microsoft Security Essentials or other free programs. Should I continue with Norton, download McAffee, download something free, or buy something else? moreVoting Question: Random Computer Freeze-Ups?
For at least three years now, my computer has recently been "freezing up" whenever I visit certain maps (generally very active *graphic-wise* or populated maps) in downloaded online games (MapleStory, Wizard101). By "freezing up," I mean the entire system freezes my keyboard, mouse, and monitor, so that the only thing I can use is my CD drive. I've confirmed that it freezes my keyboard by trying the NumLock button, and noting that the light does not turn off or on at manual command. The mouse and monitor freezes by simply not moving at all. The same happens when I visit certain pages in a website (generally one that has a LOT of images), or is currently being visited by many people. It would freeze to the point where the only solution to continue using my computer would be to manually turn it off and on by holding the power button on my PC. I have tested the same maps and sites in a different account in my system, and the same occurs. However, I've also tested the same in a different computer, but it never has the same problem. I have already... - Defragmented my system (all drives) - Cleared my cache (at least thrice a day) - Scanned my system for malicious malware (with Norton, McAfee, Microsoft Security Essentials all full (and paid for Norton and McAfee) versions - but not with both installed at the same instance, since I know they would clash if they were) - Checked my hard drive for errors (all three) - Googled for a solution. I found zip, zero, zilch, except for complaints about the same issue. Occasionally, after having manually turning my system on and off (after it has frozen), I would receive a Microsoft Error Reporting pop-up upon rebooting that leads me to this link: http://wer.microsoft.com/responses/Response.aspx/10/en-us/5.1.2600.2.00010300.3.0?SGD=b72bfd83-1b98-4038-8601-f56af336d50f#here The link itself, however, is completely useless to me, as I've already tried all the first three provided options. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions of relevance that may resolve the issue? It's becoming rather tedious and annoying to continuously manually turn my system on and off. My friends blame it on a virus, but I don't think all three anti-viruses/firewalls I've had at individual times would have missed it. Overkill, yes, but I really love my computer, as it holds a lot of information compiled over the years. Please, is anyone tech-savvy enough to give me a legitimate and working solution to this bug? My system information (will provide more at request): Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3 Hewlett-Packard Pavilion Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.60 GHz 2.60 GHz, 760 MB of RAM My system is completely up-to-date with every program it has, and has a lot of excess free space as well. Thank you in advance! For the record, if someone responds with a solution that leads me to a link which either McAfee SiteAdvisor or WOT detects malicious malware in, you can save yourself the effort: I won't be fooled.@David N: My system info. came from my computer properties - if it says I have Service Pack 3, then I have SP3. And I've also nicely stated that I'll provide any additional info. at request, but you might as well be asking me for a cure to cancer - I'm not tech-savvy, and frankly have no idea what you're ranting on about. Thanks anyways. @Syed: That isn't the issue, I have a lot of RAM, Random Access Memory. Thanks for trying! @Vikas: Thanks, I'll try it and let you know how it goes! @Wfwfg Wsegre: Spam bot. Ignored. All your provided links were deemed to be ones containing malicious software.@ Gudpc Gsg - go get a life. Technical info: ASUS Model P50IJ/P8IJ series laptop Pentium (R) Dual Core T4400 @ 2.5GHz 4.00GB Ram 64bit Windows 7 Home Premium Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter Atheros AR9121/AR8113/AR8114 PCI-E Ethernetcontroller Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter Okay, the problem: This has been going on for about a month now, but I figured it was just my router. However, since the downstairs PC, and no other laptop in the house appears to be doing this... 1) Random connection loss. I will be playing a game, chatting, watching something, and all of a sudden it slows to a crawl, and then stops. If I watch my connection icon, it tells me I have five bars, suddenly drops to none, and restarts my connection. I can speed up the process if as soon as I see that my connections going down, I go to the list of available wireless options and disconnect my self, and then turn around and reconnect. My list of available connections does not change, all connections are still shown, including the one that I'm currently on that goes down. 2) Lately I've been getting VERY slow download speeds. I've run PingTest and SpeedTest, both of which rate me average to high (A little less than 3.5Down, with 38 Ping, and no packet loss), but if I say, try going to YouTube and watching a music video, or downloading something from Amazon, or saving an image from ICanHasCheeseburger to email a friend, my download speed suddenly decides to be anywhere from 30Kbs to 1Kbs or less. For a while I thought I was getting up to 900kbs, but on closer look, It was 900bits. I got better download speeds on DIAL UP. Once again, this only appears to be affecting MY laptop, no one computer in the house. 3) If I run the self diagnostics on my laptop, I will, perhaps 50% of the time receive a message telling me that my network cable is disconnected or damaged. I've only ever run this computer through wireless, so I have no idea why my network cable being unplugged or damaged would be an issue? I just tried running the diagnostic again and it couldn't find an issue. Part 2: What I've done to try and fix: Updated drivers (They're up to date and won't allow me to update). Reinstall FireFox (Even after I had the same issue on Internet Explorer, I gave it a try. No it didn't help) Up-To-Date Virus Scan: Clean (Comodo Anti-Virus) Up-To-Date Virus Scan: Clean (ImmuNet Protect) Up-To-Date Spyware Scan: 8 low-risk tracking bots, removed, scanned again and clean Reboots: Several times. Doesn't actually help. That's about the extent of my capabilities on a computer. I've done SOME research into my issue, and found people with similar problems, but haven't found my exact issue, so I'm hoping someone here can help me out. moreResolved Question: SMU Computer Corner: How much does it cost to remove a virus?

So I have this stupid FAKE anti virus thing called Security Suite. It doesn't let me open anything like Microsoft Word or AIM or the freakin program I downloaded in order to remove said fake anti-virus. Does anyone know what to do from here?See, all seriously great ideas, but I want to know what to do if it won't turn on. moreResolved Question: How can I make my internet run faster?
Ok, guys – you’re really going to have to bear with me, as this is quite a complex one. I am going to have to tell this big, elaborate story, to get to a rather common computer related problem, which I need help with. So, I downloaded some fonts, to use on Microsoft Word and they downloaded fine, they worked, everything was fine, until I logged off that night. The next day, however, when I went to log on to my computer, I found that all of my desktop icons had doubled in size and sorted themselves into alphabetical order. Basically, everything on my computer had grown in size, as if I were looking at my computer through a magnifying glass. I didn’t have a clue how to resolve this problem. So, I restarted my computer. Nothing changed. So, I ran a system restore, returning my computer to the state it had been in 24 hours before, when I didn’t have any of the downloaded fonts. This fixed the problem. However, it messed up my anti-virus, only temporarily. What happened was my anti-virus had upgraded itself in the past 24 hours and I had forced the computer to return back to it’s past state, before the update. So, the anti-virus’ database was messed up. I was able to resolve the problem, though. However, from that moment onwards, my internet now runs extremely slow. Youtube and dailymotion, two sites that always worked, without fail, have stopped loading videos. The invisionfree boards that I frequently visit do not always load entirey, if at all. When they do load, they’re very slow. Basically, my internet in all of it’s entirety is not working all that well. My MSN is also affected, briefly. It will not always run the first time. Sometimes, it takes two, maybe three attempts, to get it to work. I have taken the computer to the shop, but they told me that I would have to be without it for two, maybe three weeks and honestly, I am not prepared to be without it for that long. It’s just not practical. I have tried making sure that my adobe reader and my java script are up to date, in case they’re to blame for my internet’s slowness, but nothing appears to have changed. I am literally running on empty, here. I am hoping that someone will be able to help me. moreVoting Question: How can I fix my browsers when they won't connect?
A couple of weeks ago my computer automatically downloaded and installed an update from Microsoft, after which I suddenly became unable to connect to the internet through any of my browsers (Firefox, IE, Opera). My wireless connectivity is excellent, and I have no problem accessing the network, but when I open my browsers, they will not connect to any site, period! What's more, my IM wouldn't connect and my Anti-virus was not able to update either. After doing some research, I discovered that a number of people encountered the same issues after installing a recent batch of MS updates. Several victims have pointed the finger at their firewalls. At the time that I first encountered the issue, I was using PC Tools Anti-virus software and the XP firewall. I disabled both and tried to access the net again, but to no avail. I have uninstalled the Anti-virus software (been meaning to replace it anyway), reinstalled my browsers, triple-checked the proxy settings, and even tried a revert back to before the update was installed... still, nothing has changed. If anyone has any idea of what the heck is going on and how to fix it, I would be most appreciative. moreResolved Question: Help! My PC Got A Virus. What Should I Do?
Now 3 days ago I downloaded some game. and got some "security tool" virus and I think others. So after a couple hours I do a system restore. Now, no sign of that security tool, but now Im getting kicked off the internet and my computer is running slower. So then I take it to bestbuy/ geek squad where I bought it over a year and a half ago. They run a diagnostics check, and say yes, that there are viruses. And want me to buy ativirus for 200 bucks. I say no, get home, try another system restore, then download free anti-spyware avast, run it let it do its thing, then delete it (cause I heard it mite slow down my computer). Then I bring it to my brothers house and see if it works, everythings fine. Now, I want to bring her home, but before I do, I want to be "ABSOLUTELY SURE" It is just as I bought her (or maybe even better/fatser). These are some things I heard will do just that: First some one said my system restore should have done the trick( I want to be more sure, cause I heard these viruses can disguise themselves and come back later) . Someone said re-install windows 7 OS, the only problem with that is my computer did'nt come with the windows 7 disk, Now the geek sqaud said I need to buy the disk from microsoft for $300 or try and see if making recovery disks and rebooting it will work. (Don't have blank disks at the moment, maybe buy some later.) I' ve also heard of manually removing them, just don't know what to look for or how or where to begint(if u know how.I would like to try, just need easy to follow directions please tell me) Geek squad also said i must have anti virus and spyware(any suggestions on the best, cheapest, and less performance swallowing.) So, it is not really a virus problem. It a problem with running two anti- virus systems at once. So my question is, would it reduce my computers performance if I ran both at the same time, i don't mean running their virus scans at the same time, i am just keep them running, they will have scheduled scans, but on different days, but will it still degrade performance if I just run the programs at "idle basically"? Hi, I'm not too bad at computers, and so I know about programs that run in the background use memory and CPU up, and thus slow the computer down. I have removed 23(!) startup programs - excluding Microsoft programs - I don't need running so my computer works superfast. Is there any reason why programs that I download or are already uploaded on my computer? Like QuickTime, RealPlayer, Adobe Acrobat, iTunes, or the various Dell Computer programs. Do they have real, tangible reasons to be running? I removed them from startup, using msconfig.exe, and the only real difference is that my computer runs faster, the programs like iTunes or Adobe Acrobat run just as fast. (Additionally, it's easier to discover illegitimate programs if there is few programs running) Though I've noticed that iTunes had a hissy fit at me over not having Bonjour.exe running! Haha! I just don't get the usefulness of them. p.s. I would never remove a program without googling it first to discover whether my computer won't turn on the next time! I never get rid of any microsoft program as a result. p.s.s. Before you ask, I do use AVG anti-virus software always, and Malwarebyte, SpyBot, CCCleaner, HijackThis, and occasionally run Avanti - just to be sure! Alright, I don't want people trying to tell me to download some free crap just for the sake of it being free. In my past experience, you get what you pay for with free...nothing. I've used both AVG and Avast, both of which have been terrible. Currently I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials with Malwarebytes, and I'm not particularly impressed by it either. I don't mind dishing out some money for a good anti virus I can rely on. So, in your opinion what is the best out there? I use my computer for online classes, a little bit of social networking and photo sharing (like facebook and deviantart), and over all random web surfing if this information helps any. moreVoting Question: China's Antivirus change my computer's language.?
I had downloaded an anti virus from China to deal with a virus that infected my Internet Explorer. This is not the first time I use this free anti virus from China, I used it for 3 to 4 times because of its good reputation in its country for fixing the virus I was infected. As usual, the anti virus removed the infected registry away, yet I noticed there is something different with my computer. Most of the commands in my computer, such as when I right click at the desktop toolbar to close/maximize/minimize, it show me Chinese commands . I realized the same thing happened to me during the usage of Internet Explorer, where after I right click-> Save background as/ image as/target as, the pop out window asking the location on "where do you want to save your file" also in Chinese. Not longer afterward, I found out my task manager also change its appearance, looking like Window 98's version with Chinese written all over it. I tried various approaches, including changing the regional option in my control panel. Apparently my language option still remain as English (United State) and not other part of my computer's system had this problem, only occurring at some specific commands, like when I right click at my desktop toolbar's items, or right click to save something from Internet Explorer, or in my task manager. I am eager to know how to fix the problem. Although I had no problem in reading Chinese, I found this is irritating and very unpleasant, especially I am upset with the ugly look of the task manager. Please help me, I am using Window XP with Vista theme. Thank you very much. PS: I know this problem is caused by the anti virus program, I had always be very careful in using the foreign anti virus due to sometime its system not compatibility with Microsoft Windows. The problem occured right after I cured the virus and could not even be fixed by rollback or system restore. moreResolved Question: anvir virus warning be careful?
I got some fake anti virus malware on my computer somehow, i guess it happend at the same time that I downloaded the ntune thing from a supposed nvidia site (now i think it was not legitimate) and i got this anvir that told me I had all these security risks and virus, which is not true the "anvir anti " virus program is the virus. Anyhow, I restarted the computer in safe mode command prompt msconfig and then proceeded to find the virus in the start up menu so I could remove it. Then I had to change my internet explorer options because it messed with that so I couldn't get on the internet. I still have this virus on my computer , but it's not doing anything now that it was disabled in start up menu. At the moment I installed microsoft security essentials and it is scanning. I guess the question would be if i can't remove it through this method is there another way I can get rid of i, such as finding it and deleting? This is more or less a warning , but also a question.well the quick scan didn't work so now i am doing a full scan. BTW This program will keep you from doing anything if you don't remove it from the start up menu via msconfig in safe modei know it's located in HKCU\software not exactly sure how to scan it or get to it. I tried regedit but cannot find hkcu just hkey moreResolved Question: Antivir Solution Pro virus infected my computer? How to remove virus?
Yesterday my Windows Vista laptop got a virus, its Antivir Solution Pro. It claims that the computer has infections and that they have to do a scan, and states all sorts of problems and then asks you to purchase the full version. It won't let me start up internet or use any programs (Word, Paint, Spybot) claiming that the files are infected. After doing "Safe Mode networking" and restoring my computer, my computer worked well again for another day. It ran the way it has always been without the annoying Antivir pop-ups, and the internet began working again. I feared the virus wasn't gone, just "covered up" or 'hidden". But the pop-ups returned again. I did the same thing as I did yesterday by restoring my options in safe-mode, and now my computer runs again. I'm afraid the pop ups will return shortly and may even get worse. How can I remove this virus? I don't have any important files on my laptop, so there isn't much I need to back up other than my music. Are there any free* programs that I can download to my computer that can wipe-out this virus? Which can be the most efficient? Is there anything worse that this virus could do to harm my computer or information? Various websites that I have looked at say that downloading "Microsoft Security Essentials" won't be able to recognize or find the virus. I don't have much anti-virus software, other than Spybot because most of my programs are expired. One person I asked told me that I should download "Microsoft Solutions" or some program from the microsoft website that can clean up all of my infections. Other websites say that I should download a program to a flash drive on another computer, and put that flash drive into my infected computer, but I'm afraid that the flash-drive will also get infected and won't be able to run the software, even when my computer is functioning and the virus is "hidden." Can someone give me a method that is a sure way to rid the virus effectively, preferable easy and free*? And tell me what it will do to my computer to remove this? It is a "Windows Vista home premium" if that helps. Thanks moreVoting Question: Four Questions About Team Fortress 2 and GMod?

My grandfather's computer will not get any security updates for Microsoft Office 2003. His OS is Windows XP and it continues to try to download and install the updates as part of automatic updates, but it always fails. Initially I assumed a virus or something, but I have run Malwarebytes, Spybot Search and Destroy, Ad-Aware, and his anti-spyware program, (I forget the name of it), and none of them find any problems. Is this software just simply outdated? What could be the problem, and how can I fix this? It doesn't really seem to bother him, but it sure annoys me when I use his computer and the stupid little icon is constantly telling me there are updates ready to install.I don't remember an error code being listed, but I'll check again next time I'm over there. I too thought maybe SP3 was missing, but I installed it so I don't think I would have forgotten to do that, (but it is completely possible). This wasn't a pop up error message by the way, it just fails to install the updates after downloading them. Oddly enough even though the install fails, the computer tries to finish installing them when I shut the computer down. Okay, so my friend let me try and fix his laptop and so i cleared out a bunch of unwanted programs that were just basic things, like an old calculator application, and some random game downloads and such. Well, he got this virus it appears from a modding website that we were trying to work. So now he gave the laptop to me and i was gonna try and download Trend Micro PC Pro but it say that his laptop doesn't fit the criteria. His laptop is running Windows XP 2002 version with Service Pack 3 but even though its already updated on that part fully (there are only 3 service packs) its still will not let me download any the software so i think i need to update it to a higher model, so my choices are either Windows 7 or Windows Vista. WELL HERE'S THE PROBLEM, i go to download, from the microsoft official website, anything that may help update his laptop and allow me to download some help, turns out every time i go to download "anything" and i mean "ANYTHING" it will redirect me to a basic "web page not found" or one of those "HTML40 something not working" and there are some other different ones i get. I know im connected to the internet so im sure that its the virus that is preventing me from downloading anything. I've already restored the system this time making sure not to clean out any programs that may help with downloads but it still isn't progressing anything. Does anyone have any idea what to do? I just spent the last 14 hours working on this thing but i've only taken Computer Applications 1 when a High-school Freshman so i Absolutely no clue, im afraid im gonna be forced to randomly delete things that look foreign until something works and i don't want to do that. OK, so I infected my laptop with a virus today and had to wipe it. >_< all my stuff, gone in a second. Now I want to know what the hell caused it. Before beginning: I have an Asus and Windows 7 Basic. I was downloading a ROM from www.coolrom.com and while I was writing an email to the ownder of the site, a full screen message popped up saying my registery was infected and I need to back it up. The message was from Microsoft Security Essentials, which I was using as an anti-virus. At the time, I didn't know what DrWatson.exe was, I now know its the Microsoft debugger. I had just found it odd that I couldn't exit out of it or select anything, even the task manager... After turning the computer off and on a couple times, it still happened. I decided then to let the program run. After nothing happened, I turned the computer off again. That's when things went to hell... When I turned it back on, It started downloading FLV Video Decoder and the mouse was moving back and forth on its own and it scared the crap out of me, so I turned the computer off AGAIN, and took it to Geeksquad to wipe it clean... I ended up using the Windows 7 recovery tool with their help and didn't have to spend $200. I thank them for that, but $100 to backup everything? ;_; (cries) I couldn't go through with that. Damn my empty wallet. Now I want to know the name of this damn virus, bot, malware-crap WHATEVER it was so I can learn more about it. Vengence will be mine... mwahahaha... (ok not really I couldn't write my own program even if my life depended on it.) Sooo... Can anyone help?Another thing. My friend's laptop has the Anti virus Soft Platinum installed. This software is preventing any other anti virus program on her computer to work. I have tried to install the AVG free software, but it keeps telling me to uninstall the Anti virus Soft Platinum software, but it doesn't show up in the add/remove programs. I have used windows defender, Microsoft windows malicious software removal tool, and Microsoft security essentials software and none of these programs detected the Anti virus Soft Platinum software. I did download spyware doctor and it scanned the computer and found 100 hits of spyware, but the program will not remove the adware/spyware unless I pay for it. I never brought that kind of software before, usually if I get adware/spyware on my computer I just zap it and reload it.
