Voting Question: why is my windows 7 laptop running REALLY slow?

i have windows 7 with in inspiron on it. got my laptop at the beginning of june this year and its always been pretty fast. but in the middle of july, my mom had me try the Dell Datasafe Local Backup, which i didnt really do at the time because we didnt have a recorable disc but a rewritable disc and i kept trying for it to download on that disc but ended up canceling it, but later i used a recorable disc but only got about 75% download and havent downloaded the rest since. is dell datasafe local backup making my computer slow? plus i have mcfee and nortan antivirus and do multiple scans and live updates with nortan. i have 3 computers in my network: first we got the home pc which is windows xp, then we got my sister's laptop that's windows vista, and then we got mine-windows 7. the other computers work faster then mine, but sometimes my sisters works a little slow at times. also ive been playing the facebook game petville a little before we tried the dell backup, but it started to work really slow the day after i used dell backup. On phone so I'll make it brief. My GFs CPU was being sluggish sort of so I went and bought her nortan antivirus 2010. I went to install and it told me to uninstall previous version. I uninstalled and also deleted quarantine when prompted to. Well her CPU froze during installation and now I'm having issues with it totally freezing everytime I boot. I can boot it up but anytime I try and run any scans (defrag, adaware, antivirus, install/uninstall anything) it will completely freeze. I've tried safe mode and it does the same thing. Hey, so i just spent a lot of money on this dam computer and its already has trouble from the get go. Ok so i download MSN it works, i put the antivirus norton 60 day trial and restart the computer. I log on MSN and it wont connect, i go to control panel to access the firewall because maybe thats affecting it clicking on security and systems then clicking anything there it stops responding. I can't access my firewall i cant plays games i cant log on msn. I restart my comp and on around the second shut down and 3rd restart my computer fully loads and on the bottom right it shows nortan antivirus icon which it did not show in the prior loads. Now everythign works the computer installs everything msn works etc. I had to restart my comp again due to a problem with reminmizing my game and now theres no norton icon at the bottom right and i cant log on msn etc and everythings not working again. SO i dont know what to do i worked my butt off saving for this computer and i dont want to go all the way to the store just to return it and get a new once etc i wanna try fixing it first. Ok, I got a Windows Vista. Yesterday, it suddenly froze and I had to turn it off. Then I turned it back on, and it froze when I tried to open Firefox, so I had to turn it off again. Then I let it rest for a while, and tried again. Same thing. So, after a while, I tried it in safe mode. While on Safe Mode, I tried to do a system restore, but it froze when I tried. And then I got a message saying my computer crashed and that I should go to Safe Mode and try uninstalling any new programs. But I had already uninstalled any new programs. So, I went back to normal mode and cleared out my recycle bin, but it's still freezing. SO I tried a full system virus scan. I have Nortan Antivirus 2009. But my computer froze before it could get very far. Now, I'm out of ideas, except bring it to best buy, but I'm 14! where would I get the money to pay for that!!?? So, please help. Thanks!So, I have to buy windows XP? Isn't that just as expensive as bring it to best buy? And if it doesn't work. . . .would it erase everything I have on my computer?no, my laptop is on the table. Voting Question: BIG HUGE COMPUTER PROBLEM!!!!?

BEFORE I START!!!! I have 3 trojans but they are in quaritine and haven't affected anything! Speed, pop-ups, nothing. As I said they are in quaritine. Alright today I ran a System Mechanic 9 deep system scan analysis and found out I had 5 problems. I first removed system clutter. And it asked me to restart, so I did. Then I went to the next problem. Some Registry problems. I fixed that and it asked me to restart again. So I did. There was an unknown program. So I removed it and restarted again. Went to the next problem which wanted me to scheduled a de-fragmentation of my computer. It said my computer was 100% fragmented PAY ATTENTION!!!! De-fragmentation I scheduled it and restarted my computer AND IT WOULDN'T WORK!!!! Well it kinda did. It brought me to a black screen stating (not the exact words but this is just a summary) "We are sorry for the inconvenience, but windows failed to load. It may have been a power failure. You can either re-launch windows if you aren't sure what the problem is. Or you can return your settings to the last time they worked." I've tried to re-launch windows normally and it froze up on a black screen. I've done it a few times. Then i tried to return the settings to the last time it worked. Neither of them worked. Whichever option I chose it still freezes up on the black screen. HELP!!! Since I scheduled the last De-fragmenting and restarted to reflect changes. It started freezing up. HELP!!!! ALSO I HAVE POSTED THIS QUESTION BEFORE AND HERE ARE SOME ANSWERS!!!! Fxfreak3: Ok. It sounds like your program deleted some vital registry entries. Without the right registry info, your computer can't start up. If I were you, I'd get the XP or Vista disc (whatever it is you have) and follow the instructions to repair your current windows installation. Hope this helps. REPLY: xfreak3 First off I don't own the Vista manuel only cause I don't have vista. The XP manual! Is so complex that is almost unreadable! I can't reinstall anything only because my computer freezes up. I CAN'T DO ANYTHING!!!! But thank you for taking the time and trying to help Mike: Never use 3rd party software to "Clean" your computer. Always use Windows own, defragment and disc cleanup. Try restarting in Last known good configuration or safe mode. If that does not work, means its a lot more than your registry. Try and do a repair install If that fails, do a parallel install on the other Drive(D, E, F etc. anything except C) and backup your data. If you have only 1 drive you are pretty much screwed, if you dont have crucial data, i'd say do a clean install. For instructions on installing, go to windowsreinstall.com Since you dint specify your OS, I cannot give you specific link, you'd have to browse it in the website and find the screenshots for (repair, parallel, clean install) REPLY:I may be wrong, and if I am don't take it personal. But first off, iolo is a major company Not some cheap company I downloaded off the internet.! I bought it at BestBuy for 60$. Even IF it is a 3rd party program. Let me ask you. What anitvirus software isn't third party that works good? That is released purely by Microsoft? AIG and Nortan Antivirus are both made by 3rd party companies. Salim:i am still confused ur question. but i can help u. see if u have a older dard disk u should not give pain to it such as defragmentation,format,cluster,.. it will lead to still weaken ur disk or sometime ur hard disk will colapse. i think that was happend to ur disk. try change ur disk. if not do the following. switch on ur cpu, press "F8" before ur OS boots. now select "Start Pc last known goos configuratiion" then press enter key. or try this one switch on ur cpu, press "F8" before ur OS boots. now select safe mode then press enter key. now ur os boots. use System Restore to previous time. I recently purchased a Dell Studio 14 laptop from Best Buy. It came with Nortan Antivirus installed on it. Now, every once in a while, the Nortan program produces a little pop up window, asking me to restart my laptop in order to install updates. I have done this several times before with no problems, but I just did it tonight and upon the computer restarting, it was returned to all the original settings it came with when I first took it out of the box. My documents are gone, Microsoft is throwing its license agreement at me, my background is the one that the computer came set up with, and and my itunes is gone. Today I searched a topic on google. After clicking on one of the links, I got an 'urgent message' coming up on my screen telling me I had downloaded a trojan virus and that it had gotten into all of my files. It told me I must instantly run a scan (on the program that told me I had a virus). Doing so, it told me it had gotten into about 300 files. I decided to run a scan on my trusty Nortan Anti-Virus, wondering why it hadn't already alerted me. After a long complete scan, it told me I had no problems. I had been trusting the program which told me I had the virus because I had been getting windows-style alerts in the bottom right hand side of my screen confirming the trojan virus. However the button on the program to remove the virus told me I had to get an activation code (buy means of purchasing one). Then I started to get wary, and I noticed when I clicked on the windows-type warnings I noticed it took me back to the program. I thought deleting the program would be simple. However it did not show up on my list of programs so I could delete it and the uninstall button did not work. I then had to do a search on all my files to find it, deleting every single file it had settled in. I can't believe these programs are out there, has anyone else had this happen to them? The program was called 'Personal Antivirus' or 'Personal AV' or 'PAV'. All answers appreciated thanks:) more

so, like the first year i got my laptop wen i would usually turn it on and it would do the the starting up or watever crap, thn after all the starting up process stuff it would have the Welcome thing and then, after that, it have my screensaver and the icons and the taskbar pop up at the same time after that. so it was all nice and dandy like that. thn my comp broke cuz of viruse(s) and um we got it fixed (tht cost ALOT) anyways so wen my comp was fixed, it started up regullaryly(eckk, bad spelling) and yea thn after some weeks/a month... i would turn on thn it would do its regular routine but wen it came to the Welcome thing, after that, my screensaver would show but my icons and toolbar wouldnt pop up with it, so my screen saver would be there with NOTHING on it and after a some minutes it would pop up(the icons and taskbar) and im kinda worried i have a virus or problem thing but wen i scan my comp (nortan antivirus[2009]) they didnt detect a virus so any um, explanations or solutions or watever. i dont want to tell my dad to go check it at best buy or watever cuz they have an inspection fee and yea, u kno, the economy rite now........>.<also, do u think it has a virus and if yes or no how sure arre you?o god anothr detail but um.. do u think its something i should worry about and do u think its ok if i leave it be its nothin? u kno wat imean.....as in the the other dates are too far bak or far over or watevrits an XP (compaq), and um i dont download thatr crap, after my comp broke the first time and best buy fixed it i have been extra careful ^.^'yea, i kno, another detail... i did a system restore alredy lik um sometime but it said it couldnt restore to that point so i kept tryin diffrent dates but tht didnt work now all the other dates dont workOK so i guess my main question is... is this dilema or watever gonna some how affect my comp more than it is now and will it break my comp or watever more

Recently I've discovered that there are a ton of trojans and viruses on my computer and a thing popped up that asked me if I wanted personal antivirus, so I said yes. It scanned my computer and found all of them but I cant remove any of them unless I subscribe. I went out and bought Nortan Security and scanned it with that program, and it only found one threat and it's been successfully removed. But the personal antivirus program keeps popping things up saying I have this and that wrong and I can't figure out how to uninstall it. There's no option anywhere that I've seen to uninstall it, anyway. But does this mean that the viruses are still there? Because Norton is saying theyre not, and my computer is running perfectly fine now. Please help.Sooooo does anyone know how to get rid of this personal antivirus, then?? more

well my old pc will not let me go on certain sites that are "important" i cant go on myspace, paypal, ebay, anti virus sites, youtube, and stuff like that, but when it comes down to sites like forums, it will let me go on them. also, when i use a search engline, i also end up getting redirected to an ad site. i have checked my home page site and it is correct. i do have a legit Nortan antivirus program on my pc, but it ran out about 2 years ago, so now it can't be updated, i have scanned my pc and it says nothing was found and yet my internet is corrupted. what can i do to fix it? also, i can not system restore. Voting Question: Personal Antivirus Removal?

I have an antivirus that i trust alot its called norton internet security but this stupid antivirus or should i say VIRUS program downloaded itself onto my computer. is thier anyway i can use norton to uninstall/destroy it? because ive tried a full system scan several times and nothing has worked so far. i dont want to buy a new program since i already have nortan. please help me. more

I'm using Norton Anti-virus 2008 and not like many people who Tried EDGE key gen it didn't work for me don't know why the strange thing is when I install it , it don't ask for Serial which is really Awkward it doesn't even have trial because I remember that I installed it before and tried this but didn't work either and I also tried Norton Removing Tool so the problem now is that when I use the EDGE key gen when I post the request U R L in the field Request URL+Activation after I try connecting to internet several times while it's disconnected then copy the URL that opens with the internet page it says " Error : Invalid CRC in the Request URL " some say this is because of the browser but I changed it to FireFox nothing's changed . I got a virus from aim. My friend IM'ed me and it said "some1 has post pcis of you on aim all over the place" once clicked, a virus was spread to my pc (thts what my friends told me) then it would spread this message to all your friends, infecting them. I have a dell inspiron 1501, its running windows xp. I recently recovered it by using the back up disk, all my writings and my music and my videos were safe, but for some reason it wouldn't let me pick up on the sims 2 games where I left off, it wouldn't even run them. I then purchased nortan antivirus, i figured there must be a virus on here that isn't letting it run properly. It won't all me to install aim, internet explorer (im using safari), it let me install yahoo messanger though, it won't let me update my java on here, and it won't let me install my computer games. Every time it starts up my norton comes up and it comes up with a box that says "dell resource cd" and it says "preparing to install" im not sure what though, and then it comes up with a message of "the install script engine is missing from this machine if available please run ISscript.msi, or contact your support personal for further assistence" what does that mean? how do I run ISscript.msi?? How do I fix this? Is this what's causing my computer not to be able to install the things listed above? more
