moreVoting Question: Windows Vista won't boot!?!?! HELP!!?
I recently downloaded what I thought was a serial keygen for Adobe Dreamweaver CS4, but when I opened the software it was a full working version of Adobe dreamweaver CS4, didn't even ask for a serial! This made me a little suspicious. But even more, soon after I started using the program, Norton Anti-virus popped up telling me and found some problems and that i needed to close everything I was working on so it could fix it. It was very suspicious because there must've been six of them and they all had the same name (files norton said was a threat) So after Norton said it had fixed everything, a windows box popped up and said "windows has encountered a serious problem, and will restart in one minute, save everything you are working on now" So then the computer shut down and started back up. But when it started back up, before I even got to the login screen, I just got a black screen, and it won't move further from there. HELP PLEASE!!!
Extra Information: ( I am putting this here because I don't kow if it is relevant or not.) My Laptop ( the one that won't boot) dual boots Windows Vista and Mac OSX. After discovering this problem and having the same problem after repeatedly trying to restart I decided to try to fix the problem through OSX. I can usually see both hard drive partitions from OSX, but when I logged in this time, nothing. All that was there was the OSX partition.
PLEASE HELP!!! any help woukd be greatly appreciatedIf I were to format it to reinstall, can I back it up i safe mode first?
moreResolved Question: What laptop is a good student laptop?
I've been trying to decide for ages, but I cant really choose.
Priorities:
Must have a good OS, meaning windows. I hate hate hate hate macs
1) Durability - Must be stable (mostly the screen must not shake after heavy use (i hate wobbly screens), keyboard shouldnt fall apart easily, IBM's i know are good, but theyre so ugly)
2) appearance (doesnt have to be beautiful, but it should be decent. I hate the black ones. I know that there are skins available, but I dont want an ugly one like the IBM's)
3) Good speed (processors -- i think a good one is the intel core duo 2 if im not mistaken. Slow computers bug me, and i dont want to have to update for a while)
4) USB ports. (im a student...enough said. USB ports are crucial for our survival. lol)
5)Memory (I DONT want my computer dying after downloading my programs that i like (i like drawing so i have gimp, paint.net as well as a musician so audacity is a must. I dont like ie, and switch between firefox (which i use 80 % of the time), and chrome (20%). I guess what ill do though is store my photos on CD's)
6) Graphics card. (Sims 3 is AWESOME, but it doesnt run on my broken laptop before it broke. I do like gaming, but im willing to give it up for speed and other things)
7) Portability (Obviously, it shouldnt be huge. It should be easy to carry, but it doesnt have to be ultralight. I think most laptops nowadays are a good size, but i would like maybe a medium screen size because im going to get a desktop to go with my laptop anyways)
Some other musts: Must have wi-fi (duh), word should be included.
Another thing to look for is something which comes with a good anti-virus. Im really really good at getting viruses, and ill try harder not to if i get a new computer but i dont trust myself. However, Norton totally bogs down my computer. Either way, I do research a lot and i go to sites which could potentially be unsafe.
I really really liked the MacBook (i think it was that, it had a cool touchpad without any clicky thingies...u click directly on it, and could do shortcuts with two fingers and stuff), which my friend had, but as i said before i hate the Mac OS. Its gross. Also, i already know windows and i like being familiar with the shortcuts. I dont want to have to relearn. But a laptop similar to the Macbook but on windows would be nice
Oh yeah, and cost. I dont mind paying a little bit more for something that would last longer. Im going to 11'th grade right now, and i might even take this laptop with me to college.
Portability as mentioned before is semi-important. It kind of goes with appearance as well, because if it looks nice it probably isnt going to weigh 30 pounds. I dont want one of those netbooks (i think theyre called that), i cant focus on such a tiny screen. I like the flexibility of working on my lap vs. a desktop.
If im missing anything please ask.
Thanks so much for going through all this.
I really am excited to get my computer. Hopefully, it will be perfect for me cause its going to be used for a very very loooong time.Oh yeah! Battery life. Should be long, so I can take it to meetings (im doing an internship and we have seminars/meetings which are 2-3 hours long), and to my summer class (which is 8 hours). Obbviously, I dont think ill find one with an 8 hour battery life, but i dont want one which has to be plugged in all the time either. A 2-3 hour battery life would be fine, and ill probably end up getting an extra battery so it doesnt go dead.If I download windows, it will loose some of the features. Any non-macs that can do this all?
moreResolved Question: Free and best anti virus for the Mac Book?
My facebook just got hacked into yesterday and I need to run an anti virus for my Mac Book. I have been searching every anti virus site, to learn about new downloads for my Mac, to prevent any viruses from potentially getting into my system, or to at least find them quickly. I learned recently that the Mac is not completely stable anymore and that people have found ways to hack them. So, I have thought about FireFox, and Norton Anti-virus, but is there any anti-virus that works the best for my Mac Book, that is also a free download?
moreResolved Question: Why is my Microsoft Office, Open Office and Neo Office always crashing on my Mac Os X v10.5.6?
I was working on a term paper yesterday on Microsoft Office for my criminal law class when it started to crash on me. Every time I would try to save my finished product it would say "now connecting to printer" when I specifically pressed the save button. I would press the save icon, go to file and save, go to file and save as, and also tried to save it by command S and it would still give me the same answer. Every time I try to save it, it says that the app won't respond.
I tried every possible way to fix the problem: I restarted the computer multiple times (many times I had to force quit the app and force restart because the app crashed and it wouldn't respond), I updated my system, I tried to update my Microsoft Office but it ended up having an error and saying it won't work, I looked up help on Mac forums and tried them, I used my Norton Anti-Virus Security system to see if there was some sort of Virus (results was no viruses), I did the same thing with a free trial of iAntiVirus (results was the same), I even downloaded Open Office (crashed on me) and Neo Office (wasn't compatible for Microsoft Office documents). As you can see, it all ended horribly.
I am asking anyone if they know why it keeps doing this to me and what should I do now.
I really want to try every option before I decide to buy a new Microsoft Office Home and Student Edition.
Thank you =)

moreVoting Question: OS X Leopard Support Questions?
Ok here is the deal. I recently bought a new apple iMac. I already knew that the phrase "Macs don't get viruses" was a fraud. So I immediately chose to buy "Norton Anti-Virus" by Symantec. I already know about the flaws with most of the OS X anti-virus software. Anyways I've been scanning since day one and not to mention updating. Then about a week ago iChat started to be all glitchy. For example when I would click on the icon to start running it, all of a sudden it would try to log onto my aol screen name and then log out repeatedly several times. This then caused it to say that I have been logging in and out too many times, thus not allowing to use the program. Another issue with these malfunct came another one. This malfunction is a big one at that as well. Whenever I would download a program from "download.com" e.g. VLC player to watch videos, or any other program. My mac mac tends to not verify that it has installed the program into the hard drive. This means that It doesn't instinstall*... so now I want to reinstall OS X with the two installation discs that came with the iMac. Also my repair plan for my iMac was never purchased-_- so It's too late to return it. So can anyone please explain how to reinstall or any links to the reinstallation of OS X.
moreResolved Question: For people who think PC's are way worse than Mac's...?
It's not true. At least not entirely. Not 'all' PC's are crud. Vista or Windows does not come up with BSOD's all the time, have viruses popping up ever 10 mintues, runs slowly all the time, or none of that. It's a big lie.
If you run a cheap PC (under $850, from Dell or HP), no anti-virus program (or one download from the internet), and have cheap internet connection, then yes, you are living in the PC hell.
But if you buy a high-end/mid-range PC (Sony Vaio, LG, Samsung, some HP, some Dell), have a strong anti-virus program (Windows Live OneCare, Norton 360), and have high-speed internet connection (hopefully there's a router), then you're not going to have any problems.
Vista is not always to blame on itself. Get a high-end PC and you'll have no performance problems. Some things aren't compatible because that company doesn't want it too, not MS.
Over all, it's a big lie. Get a high-end system, good anti-virus, fast connection and you're set.
So what do you think?I do have a Mac. How could I compare them if I didn't have one. Sheesh, obviously there are too many fanboys doubting that people actually hate OS X.
