Resolved Question: How can I speed up my computer? (please read details)?

Ok so..my family computer is almost un-usable..the internet takes about 10-15 minutes to load the home page. and about another 5-10 to load google.! and i can't even browse my documents..it's just soo slow! i'm almost positive there are many viruses..when it was a little faster we tried many different virus programs including shaw secure and norton anti virus. now we cant even download those programs or any programs because the computer is to slow to run them. The computer is a Windows XP. we can't afford a new one.. Is there any way to completely delete everything on the computer and start fresh? p.s. there aren't any files on the computer i need to keep because we moved all of our important files onto our mac. more

Resolved Question: Why is my Microsoft Office, Open Office and Neo Office always crashing on my Mac Os X v10.5.6?

I was working on a term paper yesterday on Microsoft Office for my criminal law class when it started to crash on me. Every time I would try to save my finished product it would say "now connecting to printer" when I specifically pressed the save button. I would press the save icon, go to file and save, go to file and save as, and also tried to save it by command S and it would still give me the same answer. Every time I try to save it, it says that the app won't respond. I tried every possible way to fix the problem: I restarted the computer multiple times (many times I had to force quit the app and force restart because the app crashed and it wouldn't respond), I updated my system, I tried to update my Microsoft Office but it ended up having an error and saying it won't work, I looked up help on Mac forums and tried them, I used my Norton Anti-Virus Security system to see if there was some sort of Virus (results was no viruses), I did the same thing with a free trial of iAntiVirus (results was the same), I even downloaded Open Office (crashed on me) and Neo Office (wasn't compatible for Microsoft Office documents). As you can see, it all ended horribly. I am asking anyone if they know why it keeps doing this to me and what should I do now. I really want to try every option before I decide to buy a new Microsoft Office Home and Student Edition. Thank you =) more

Voting Question: OS X Leopard Support Questions?

Ok here is the deal. I recently bought a new apple iMac. I already knew that the phrase "Macs don't get viruses" was a fraud. So I immediately chose to buy "Norton Anti-Virus" by Symantec. I already know about the flaws with most of the OS X anti-virus software. Anyways I've been scanning since day one and not to mention updating. Then about a week ago iChat started to be all glitchy. For example when I would click on the icon to start running it, all of a sudden it would try to log onto my aol screen name and then log out repeatedly several times. This then caused it to say that I have been logging in and out too many times, thus not allowing to use the program. Another issue with these malfunct came another one. This malfunction is a big one at that as well. Whenever I would download a program from "download.com" e.g. VLC player to watch videos, or any other program. My mac mac tends to not verify that it has installed the program into the hard drive. This means that It doesn't instinstall*... so now I want to reinstall OS X with the two installation discs that came with the iMac. Also my repair plan for my iMac was never purchased-_- so It's too late to return it. So can anyone please explain how to reinstall or any links to the reinstallation of OS X. more

Resolved Question: If I want to delete a virus from my Mac and have good protection from viruses, which program should I get?

I've read through similar questions that the program from clamxav.com is pretty good. How is that compared to McAfee? or AVG or Norton? Which one is the best? Also, which one would be less complicated to use? I remember I downloaded an anti virus that was sooo complicated.Okay for all of you that said that I don't have a virus, I beg to differ. FIRST off, a pop up alert came on my Mac and said that I got a virus and some more stuff, but I got so scared that I closed all my windows form the internet and then shut down the computer because I didn't want it to run with a virus unprotected. more

Resolved Question: For people who think PC's are way worse than Mac's...?

It's not true. At least not entirely. Not 'all' PC's are crud. Vista or Windows does not come up with BSOD's all the time, have viruses popping up ever 10 mintues, runs slowly all the time, or none of that. It's a big lie. If you run a cheap PC (under $850, from Dell or HP), no anti-virus program (or one download from the internet), and have cheap internet connection, then yes, you are living in the PC hell. But if you buy a high-end/mid-range PC (Sony Vaio, LG, Samsung, some HP, some Dell), have a strong anti-virus program (Windows Live OneCare, Norton 360), and have high-speed internet connection (hopefully there's a router), then you're not going to have any problems. Vista is not always to blame on itself. Get a high-end PC and you'll have no performance problems. Some things aren't compatible because that company doesn't want it too, not MS. Over all, it's a big lie. Get a high-end system, good anti-virus, fast connection and you're set. So what do you think?I do have a Mac. How could I compare them if I didn't have one. Sheesh, obviously there are too many fanboys doubting that people actually hate OS X. more
