Hello. For about the past week, I've been struggling with two difficult computer viruses that both came in a download of something called Free File Viewer. One of them is Strongvault Online Back-up, and the other is Spyhunter Anti-Malware. Initially, they did nothing but scan my computer for viruses, and told me that I needed to buy the full versions from their websites, as soon as I noticed that I had downloaded them, I tried to uninstall Spyhunter first. As soon as I did this, I got the infamous Windows "Blue Screen of Death". I started the computer in safe mode, and ran a Mal-Ware Bytes full scan, but it didn't find them. I'm hoping that someone knows of some antivirus, which will find and remove these viruses.@fizixx One of the links is to Enigma Software's website. Enigma Software is the company that makes Spyhunter, which is of the viruses that I'm trying to get rid of. moreResolved Question: Can i have a link for a free anti-virus?

My Norton 360's subscription is gonna expire soon. I'm looking for something different this time because ccsvchst.exe from Norton eats up too much resources and messes with Firefox so bad. I bought new laptops for my office & can't afford to get viruses in them as they've come with genuine soft wares. (The cost would be very high if I have to format & re-install). Currently they have a trial version of Norton on which I have to decide - whether to purchase the Norton license or to install a different AV. My IT consultant says (We outsource IT) Norton is the best. But, not sure whether they are biased as they sell Norton. Appreciate your suggestions. These are HP pro-books with 4GB RAM & Core i 3 processor. HD is some 500-odd. Thanks for all your comments & suggestions. So helpful & informative. moreResolved Question: my anti virus software hs expired so i thought i would download one online ie avg ,?

Explanation of what happened follows: I was listening to some music on YouTube while writing up a report, when suddenly my entire screen got conquered by a border-less window demanding $200 in the name of the FBI for 'illegal activity' (not specified), or else the computer would remain locked in the described fashion. Couldn't even see my task bar or anything else: the window covered everything to the edges of my monitor. I tried every shortcut I could think of to get Task Manager, or just anything at all to pop up on my screen so I could shut it down. Unfortunately, I've never dealt with a virus that successfully takes over my entire screen and appears to have that 'stay on top of other windows' thing going on. So, no matter what I did, I couldn't get anything to show up on the screen besides this damn window. As I cursed to the heavens, I restarted my computer with the button on my tower. Everything SEEMS okay now: it didn't pop up again, and I'm doing whatever without a problem. But I feel like this isn't the end of it. I'd just like to know how to figure out where this thing came from, and how I can make sure it never happens again. Since I didn't even get a chance to look at the process for the virus, I have no idea what it might be called, or where it might be found. I did a quick scan with Norton, it says everything is cool (no viruses detected, yippee!), but for some reason I don't believe that. A link with instructions to my specific virus would also suffice. Please and thank you! moreResolved Question: I am trying to anti virus?
At the minute I have Norton 360 and it runs out in two weeks. I also have AVG, when I first got a pc a guy I know put AVG and Ad aware on my pc to solve all the problems. But I found I was still getting virus so I evidentiayl got Norton for about two and three years. I found when I didn't have it and instead had AVG and Ad aware my pc seemed to get more viruses. The issue at the minute is, things on my pc have been disconnecting themselves like the printer, the mouse etc and I was told that I probably have malware and he also says that Norton doesn't protect against or spy ware. Is there any good software that can protect against everything and I hate back up feature on Norton for a start I don't want to back up everything. Or do I have to get Norton 360 on top of another program.Without trying to make excuses, I use my pc for work and seldom use my pc for anything like games. The issue is my brother does play games from sites and dating sites. So its more of a case of keeping my pc maintained for people using the pc for entertainment. moreResolved Question: Why is my laptop so slow after returning it to factory settings?
It used to have huge issues in which it became randomly painfully slow Friday night and would take 2hrs to start out of nowhere ( I know I had no viruses), and the hard drive was just replaced two months ago. Every time I use it it seems to become slower, and I can't even open google chrome. The laptop is a Toshiba Sattelite and was purchased March 2011. Any ideas how to get it back to the lightning speed it used to be? I'm starting to hate windows a lot. moreResolved Question: Are there any free anti virus programs that can compete with Norton?
I had Norton for the past year it was probably the best 100$ i ever spent but It just expired 2 days ago and I am not in a position to spend any extra money at the moment. I downloaded a free A.V. program called "avast" form C-net, but I just get the feeling that it is not protecting me as well as Norton did. So what I would like to know is "are there any free A.V. or spy ware programs that are as good as or o-most as good as Norton? If u agree that avast is the best then could you tell me if there are any features or options that I should change from there default settings? moreResolved Question: Norton Anti-virus Vs. Avast?
My Norton Anti virus just expire, and need to spend almost $50 to renew it, compare to Avast Free anti virus, it seem like quite a decision. Of course Norton is better, u get wan u pay, but i been hearing from lots of people that its just the same as a free soft ware. To keep Avast i would have to combine it with different software such Spay ware, Firewall, ect. that i can also get for free. Im really not sure of which way to go on this. Can free be as good enough to stay safe? or will i just get rip off by A software that's good as a free antivirus? moreResolved Question: Does This Laptop Have Good Specs.?

Can anyone help me with this?it's that bad? i did buy Avast and while it is a wonderful program, I had to reinstall it over 5 times because it kept uninstalling itself - it's a common problem with Avast that happens every 2 or 3 updates. too unstable. i do have Malwarebytes too but its the free version so I figured it didn't count as far as this Spybot problem is concerned.I have used the online scanner from NOD32 but that takes over 12 hours to finish scanning. I will be attempting to install a program or play a larger game (Starcraft II) and my computer will slow down and start performing badly, I run SIW (system information for windows) and it says cores are running at %20 and less at 148 degrees and my memory is using tops 4000mb (I have 6 gigs on here) and yet everything goes into slow mo! I need a good Anti virus and male ware protection for my pc. Not Norton They didn't Give me the protection that I needed. There product used up to much CPU on my pc. Please find me a good product moreResolved Question: What is the most effective free anti virus for windows 7 pro right now?
I've had trouble with windows 7 pro crashing with Avast & SuperAntispyware & Malware Bytes, but I got Norton removed I think and that seems to have been the problem with Avast & Malware Bytes (at least reading seemed to reveal that). I've used AVG in the past and have seen info Avast actually works better and is more user friendly. I guess a lot of people have a problem with SuperAntispyware since Windows 7 came out and it was never fixed as far as I can see, but the problem seems to be with the SuperAntispyware Pro and I put SuperAntispyware on my daughters Windows 7 home computer which is doing fine. If anyone has input on a combination of free ware that works best I'd appreciate it. Also for browsers, the New Explorer 9 is aggravating me, and bing seems to be embedded and I am hating Bing. I don't think Bing searches nearly as well. Any input is very appreciated, thanks : ) moreResolved Question: Help with detecting and eliminating virus?
I have a Dell Latitude D600 laptop that I bought in 2004. I cannot afford a new computer at this point, so this one has to do. Somehow I've contracted a virus that hijacks my internet explorer by entering strange characters in the search box, which launches a search. This then makes it difficult for me to visit pages without several additional windows popping up with this "bogus" search. It also causes me to have trouble getting my legitimate web pages to load. I have scanned my computer multiple times with Norton Anti-virus, Mal-ware bytes and Ad-Aware (all free versions). None of the applications can detect the virus. How do I get rid of it? moreResolved Question: Several Windows 7 Computer Questions?
OK, so I have an HP Laptop that I'll be using in college. I've already had it for several months and I'm still learning things about it. I know some things about computers, but I don't know everything. Whoever can answer these questions the most detailed is awesome! Don't be intimidated by the length, they're relatively easy questions that I just need advice on. They're also very detailed. 1). How can I change my computer name? Yes, I know to to go to the Control Panel and then System Properties to change it. However, I think that only changes the log-in screen. When I'm looking in files or documents it will still says C:\\Users\ (Numbers and Letters) I would like to know how to change that because it's so annoying and it doesn't make my machine look personal. 2). I'm not sure how to word this, but I would like to have a general idea on what kind of files or folders I could delete that would not mess up my operating system. Basically, I see a lot of .dat, .dot, .tmp files within certain folders of my Laptop. Another concern of mine is that I will find folders with titles such as: {000999-FFF--199900777--555} It's not exactly that, but it's an example. Finally, I find folders that don't have any files in them whatsoever. I even changed the settings to show hidden files and there's still nothing in them. 3). How can I keep my computer files organized? I already know how to make folders and sub folders for certain things. However, when I first bought the computer I had folders that were mixed in with each other. For example: My Documents C:\\Users\ (Numbers and Letters) CyberLink, Documents, and Youcam. I know that CyberLink and Youcam are both important folders but it's so annoying where they are placed. 4). What is the best web browser for Windows 7? I know that this is a highly opinionated question but I've experimented with all of them. I just can't decide what's the best to use. I used to love Google Chrome but it would take forever for a webpage to load if it would ever get there. I would like to have a web browser that will actually delete all the History (Fill in, websites, cookies, etc.) when I tell it to. Not having anything left behind! 5). Finally, why does my Anti-Virus detect so many Web-Threats and Viruses? It blocks and removes anything that it thinks is malicious but it discovers hundreds of them every month. It's it the websites that I'm on or just that it's that good and blocks everything that comes my way? Sorry for the length, but I'm a bit of neat freak. Or at least when it comes to my computer. I'm going to college on Monday and I want it to be as good as new. I don't want to have any Male Ware, Spy Ware, or anything else running around when I take it to my college. Any help is greatly appreciated! moreResolved Question: When I bought my HP computer from Best Buy USA, it had Kaspersky installed.?

I am wondering if there is a good free Google Chrome program that will slow down the male ware and spyware. Currently use AVAST antivirus and Spy-bot Search and Destroy and run them daily. What concerns me is the amount of male and spy ware that is still getting through. Looking for a better filter. Have no use for Norton or Macfee. Thanks moreResolved Question: How do I fix this problem?
Ok, our computer was running slow, which I have possibly figured out that it just needs more memory. So to try to fix that I ran the disk cleanup options to take off the stuff that has not been used in a long time and without realising it, it took off my internet explorer. So I had to redownload it from microsoft, which I throught would put it on all accounts but it didn't. I had taken off mozilla from the computer as well b/c my sister uses it and keeps catching viruses. I cannot find the file for internet explorer on the accounts and it won't let me connect to bring it up, but it is in the files to add/remove programs. How do i fix this problem so internet explorer is on all 3 accounts? Oh and I have tried a system restore and it won't go through.Yes I have Norton 360 right now and it works wonderfully. The last time we had the AVG, it didn't seem to be working but anyway, if I can find the internet explore in the programs list then why won't it load to the desktop? And the run option won't bring up anything either. It keeps telling me on their accounts since they are not administrator it won't work so how do I find the file on their accounts for it to load? moreResolved Question: Is Symantec's Norton 360 the best they have to offer?

I already scanned for viruses. I was informed this morning that my email account must have been hacked because my contacts had received an email with a link. I have received emails like this before but never clicked the link, just deleted them. My friends old account was hacked, but she never used it. She tried deleting her account and it wouldn't let her. But she was still able to log in. Anyway, I was still able to log into my account. All my information was the same and didn't appear to be changed. I chose a new password and a new security question, sent out a mass email to my contacts warning them my account had been hacked and to not open the link, and deleted all but 2 contacts from my list (my address, and my husbands) to see if that would stop the spam. I checked in my sent box to see if I was able to find the messages, but found nothing other than previous emails that I had sent earlier in the week. There were no messages in my deleted box either. Was changing my password enough to prevent the spam from being sent from my email? And also, how could this have happened? I'm on a secure network, and originally had a very strong password with a capital letter and a symbol. I've changed all important account passwords, just in case. But I still can't relax. I have e mails in this account that I need to keep like my financial aid information, I don't feel safe leaving that information in my email, even though it requires a password and a pin number and a SSN number to access it. I'm freaking out. =( I can only think of two ways that this could have happened. 1.) My husband and I were out of town for a few days and staying at a casino hotel. We paid for internet, and it said it was on an unsecured network, but we used it anyway. (We have Norton Security Suite) And I believe I accessed my e-mail once for a short amount of time while we were there. Or, 2.) My husband often times leaves important windows open, which I usually ignore and just open another window. I logged into my hotmail account for 5 minutes after not being on it in a few days. The window my husband was on was a google search, I didn't think much of it. Turns out he was on a few "questionable" websites before the google search that have a lot of spam and ads on it and he didn't run our cleaner (Piriform CCleaner) but I didn't think it mattered. Could any of these have caused my account to be hacked? And is this enough to prevent the hacker from logging into my account again (Just changing my password and security question?)? We did a thorough scan on our computer as well, and it didn't detect any viruses or spy-ware or anything.I use Norton. I ran a thorough scan of my computer that took a while to run. It didn't detect anything. I know that CCleaner is not a virus protector. moreResolved Question: what antivirus ware is best?

So a few days ago my dad was on the computer and he got one of those fake security things that say you have a virus and they need to scan your computer to get rid of it. I told him to just click cancel and get off the site and I thought it was good, but that same day we got a virus on the computer. Whenever we would turn on the computer or start the internet my documents pop up for no reason, and it was a fake my documents (I know it was fake because when it popped up I would reopen my documents and another page of my documents would open which doesn't happen with the real my documents) but it was weird because the fake my documents looked exactly like ours (same files; etc) but the file and folder tasks thing on the side wasn't there and was replaced with some sort of security thing. I did a scan on my computer for viruses and nothing came up besides cookies which I deleted just in case. The next day somehow my internet broke. Whenever I turn on Mozilla Firefox it said Internet Explorer (which I don't even use) was blocking the website (Google) and that it was a risk to my computer and wanted me to download spy-ware. I didn't click it but there's no way to get around it. Every website says this and I can't go on the internet, but if I go on a different user or computer I can. Viruses always get me so freaked out and I just need to get rid of it soon but no matter how much I scan my computer with my Norton security or look through my files for anything suspicious it doesn't work. I was a a website I have never visited before when one of those "Your computer is infected download this anti spyware now" windows popped up. I clicked on the X which unbeknown to me sent me to their site. I X'ed it out immediately. Minutes later every thing simply freezes and I cant run any applications. The "Security warning. Application cannot be executed. The filename.exe is infected." window pops up. So I reboot the computer hoping thatd rid of it.But its still about and it pops up with every program I try to open, meaning I cannot run ANY internet browser, I cannot open Task Manager, I cannot do a System Restore, the anti virus I have is out of date but I cannot open that either. I cant open anything. So I got on another computer to look for what to do. Most forums usually say go to Safe Mode and a system restore. I cannot log on Safe Mode. Another suggestion was to install the Windows Vista CD and do I repair install, a CD I do not have. What should I do? What free anti-ware should I install to prevent this from happening again?? moreResolved Question: Microsoft Security Essentialss ?
