Resolved Question: Long ago I set up Gmail as my email default, now after purchasing Office 2010 Outlook wants to be set up?

I have had Gmail as my default email until recently. I bought Microsoft Office Bundle for online college work. Each time I try to click a link on a webpage, for example Craigslist to respond to an ad, a pop up wants me to configure the new Outlook as my email client. I never set up Outlook during the trial phase after purchasing my computer new a few years ago. It is an Emachine, running Vista, Windows Version 6.0, Build 6001 with a service pack 1, with IE7. Can anyone help me: Configure my computer to use Gmail again as the default, or have a pop up that says, which mail client would you like to use, and the steps to set that up after formatting Outlook so it would be ready to use if this is an option of multiple defaults by easy selection pop up. --> My online college requires Outlook, but I like Google and it seems to scan my email pretty well. I remember when first getting on a computer how everyone complained about Outlook having too many security flaws. So Id like to not use it as the deafult. I would be fine, having to open the Outlook program, or mail settings each time to make Outlook the default during class as needed, and then resume using Gmail as the default when I am done. Please help. I am not that computer savy as you can tell. It took a long time to set up Gmail as my email when I first purchased the computer, and it was very hard finding the instructions on Gmail on how to get it all done. Thank you so very very much. I can follow instructions that do not assume I am that great with all the computer related language, simple terms is easier for me to follow if you could please. In my computer I found an email set up that is totally blank and not set up at all. I do not have mail set up for scanning with my Norton Antivirus, which is up to date and current with registration. :) more

Voting Question: Having problems with internet explorer on PC?

After my kid played some world of warcraft trial on his profile yesterday on our computer, the internet explorer stopped working only on his profile. My profile as the administrator is working perfectly fine. I didn't have virus protection and i have the PC setup so that no one can download any content without my password. My son doesn't know my password so he couldn't have downloaded any content. Today i bought and installed Norton antivirus 2010 and ran a system scan and nothing came back. However i did see something on his screen when i was messing with it that said trojan something. At that point i had just shut it down. Should i just delete his profile and make a new profile, Will that contain any further problems from coming up? Please help... more

Resolved Question: What happens if you get a virus and leave your computer off for a long time?

Twice so far my computer said I had a virus. The first time I left my computer off for 3 months because I was scared as hell that if I turned it on,it would break.Than one day I do,and BOOM! no virus.Second time i just left it off for 2 weeks and than again,no virus. My computer works normally, its slow, but thats because its kinda old.IDK if it has a virus,I have no antivirus but that's because I cant afford 1 and I wanna get Norton, but i still have it downloaded on my PC from when I got the free trial, and when I used it to scan my computer,it said I had no virus,so now idk.My computer is all normal btw just slow because its old.Im scared because Ive got no idea if I have a virus or not? more

Resolved Question: How do you get rid of pop-ups?

My Nortons Antivirus Protection expired about a month ago. In the last few days, my computer has been allowing pop-ups. It never did that before. I check my internet option to make sure that the box was checked to disallow it and it was. Do you have any tips on how to get rid of pop-ups? And, I need a new Antivirus Protection. Do you know where I can get a good one for free? No trials or anything like that...just free? more

Resolved Question: kaspersky antivirus ruined my computer?

I just got a brand new asus laptop yesterday. It was the best laptop instock at bestbuy so i know it can handle anything. It worked great out of the box, it connected to my wifi easily, started and restarted quickly and opening programs took seconds not minutes. This was all true until i installed my antivirus. I normally use Norton but the guy at Best Buy convinced me that Kaspersky Antivirus is the best out there and is less bulky. I also got a 6 month free trial with the computer purchase so I installed it and planned to probably buy this antivirus later on. I installed it and it didn't take that long. But then it said it was out of date, so I updated it. The update barely got to %2 and that took 2 hours to do that. So then I restarted my computer and it went a bit faster and got to 40% in an hour but then it stopped. Now it won't update at all it won't go past 0% and have an internet connection. The computer even says I have one. So I assumed that was the problem because the internet doesn't load anymore either. So I plug it into an internet cable that I know works because my computer was hooked up to it and had internet. It said I was connected to internet on my laptop when I plugged it in, but the internet still wouldn't load. It said it had a connection problem. Because of this the antivirus can't update and if it does it either fails or stays at 0-4% and takes forever. I also tried installing overnight thinking maybe it takes several hours to update but when I woke up it was still at 0% but it still said it was updating and connected to the internet. Should i just geek squad? Is Kaspersky crap and did best buy just tell me its the best since they are affiliated with it?i realize this says nothing about how my computer is ruined it now runs extremely slow the startups take several minutes, the sound is all crackly and laggy, the computer is just all around laggy but with 6G RAM and an i7 processor this shouldn't be happening, at all. Also, I did not install anything else on my computer before antivirus and have not installed anything else because I want to fix this firstI have avast on my other computer but I'm not thrilled, it doesn't have a firewall and this computer cost $1300 I'm not losing it to a virus. Plus I have been infected with a virus while running avast and it wasn't because I installed anything, i just went on a website (facebook) and bam, my computer was infected more

Resolved Question: Antivirus programs- Microsoft Security Essentials QUESTION!!!?

I used norton for a while because it came with a trial with my laptop; everyone's been telling me it's like the worst antivirus ever though, and I got some little popup that said "your computer is infected", freaked out, downloaded malware bytes, got rid of norton, and got microsoft security essentials instead. WELL, I wanted to run a full scan, it was taking forever, so I went to sleep. I woke up, and IT'S STOLL RUNNING! Its been going for almost 5.5 hours. A day ago I put the computer to an earlier time (2 days earlier) with system restore point. Before that, I had a already registered 30 day trial of Norton Antivirus. Voting Question: not an average virus question...?

I Have windows 7 home premium 64-bit with AVG Paid and Downloaded Kaspersky Internet Security trial. I Just downloaded Wave To Text 5.58 off of download . Cnet . com, which i thought was a safe site. (obviously should have read the reviews. Half said it was a virus.) I'm stupid, I know. But when I opened it and ran setup, I got an AVG popup for the virus win32/funlove.corrupted. I did have to put in my windows UAC password before I ran the setup(Another moron move). My Question is 1) since I have windows 7 64-bit, how much do I have to worry about it opening a backdoor and letting other viruses in, and 2) does antivirus software (any but norton or symantic. I refuse to use either) remove the virus good enough to not have to do it manually or reformat the hd? Added Info: I'm my own computer tech. I started messing with computers back with windows 2000. I've I've been a safe surfer and have never had any issues with viruses til now. Sorry I'm a noob about viruses.not a detail, but what got me into this mess in the first place is: I have a magic jack phone and got home this evening to a voicemail from a guy that all i could understand was his name and the fact he had a package for me. He said a business name i couldnt understand. Can you please leave in your answer, a free, virus-free, .Wav to text converter. thanks in advance!!I know, landlines and voicemail are so 2009. lol with that said, not being rude, just not understanding, what do u mean "contradicting myself" more

Resolved Question: Help with my windows xp memory !?

Hey everyone now I have my Windows XP pc from 2 years ago and it was working completely fine and then this year only it started losing its memory (it used to have 29 GB) in Disk C: but D: never lost a MB and that's actually weird, anyway I scanned my pc with Norton before the memory got to 5 GB and it brought out some threats but I fixed them all and everything was fine .. then my computer's memory got to 0 MB and I had to delete everything on the pc in order to make it run properly, so I deleted the norton, all the pictures, all the videos, all the documents even the trial version of microsoft and the favorites and the computer restored some of its memory to 600 MB and it worked fine but still the space was so small for me to resume on this computer then 2 days ago I downloaded the CCleaner I heard ppl say it cleans the pc really fine and it really did clean my pc and I ended up with 6 GB and I found some guide on the internet on how to stop the pc from losing its memory so I went to Start > Right click on My Computer > Properties > System Restore > and I click on Drive C: then a thing will appear with a bar to move on the right or left it was to its MAX so I moved it to the MIN and currently I'm running a disk cleanup by Start > Run > Cleanmgr and when its done I'll restart the pc and I also download another Antivirus called Avast 4.0 its scanning right now and the computer's memory is going up yesterday it was 6 GB now its 7 and still increasing but do you think it'll ever decrease again and is that all I have to do cuz I'm not sure if that's all maybe it needs more so plz tell me if I need to do anything more I want my pc to go back to normal =[ and if all what I've done isn't enough then tell me what I can do or what can I do to stop the pc from losing its memory cuz it really annoys when every second a message pops up and says low disk space and I can't run the internet properly and can't save anything on the pc plz help I'll appreciate it so much and thanks <3 more

Resolved Question: Personal Experiences with FREE Antivirus programs?

My laptop came with a free trial of Norton Anti virus, which is about to expire. I've really had an awesome experience with them~ in the past, I've had Avast's free residential antiviral program installed on my desk top, and I was constantly getting viruses and malware. I know a lot of people talk about Norton negatively, but its kept my syste, cleaner than anything I've ever tried. I need to find a good, FREE, residential anti virus program for my laptop. I've had so many bad experiences and heard so many horror stories about programs claiming to be free antiviral software, yet they end up being viruses/malware/etc themselves. Can anyone speak on behalf of some residential free anti virus programs? Positive and negative comments welcomed and greatly appreciated, but PLEASE have 1st hand experience with said program~ not "my friend once..." or "I've heard...", "I know my (uncle, mom, dad, sister. cousin, friend) tried... " I am ISO people who've actually used the program~ while your help is appreciated, it's not much use if you can't speak for it yourself.antivirus tips and download (avg avira norton, avast, kaspersky, avira, bitdefender, malwarebytes, etc): http://merakit-komputer.com http://merakit-komputer.com http://merakit-komputer.com more

Resolved Question: What's wrong with my E-machines net book?

About 4 months ago I purchased a net book, at Walmart, for a really good price $228.00. It is from E-Machines. Here's a rundown: 1. It's a fairly good machine for the most part 2. Has Windows 7.0 3. Internet: Often times when I try to get a wireless signal from a Netgear router, the Internet Icon on the bottom will have a yellow X and it will display NET GEAR, SIGNAM EXCELLENT, NO INTERNET SERVICE. I have to keep turning it on and off and it's a game. Sometimes it says Internet Signal, other times it doesn't. Many times I have to do a Restore. 4. It gets pretty warm 5. Norton Antivirus won't complete. I don't have a virus software running. I don't have the money right now. Is there any free-trials for virus programs? I tried using another Router, but the Cisco one won't work. It makes the wired computer VERY SLOW and keeps saying Locating router. This is the only one that works. We also have VOIP connected to the computer downstairs. THANKS!!!!!!! PS : I am wondering if the Internet goes out because my router isn't password protected? I don't know how to do it and I'm scared it might do somethingi to the downstairs computer. I used to have a router from Linksys set up on wireless but I was using Windows 3. more
