It is time for my yearly testing of some of the top anti-virus programs, and I want you to express your opinion on who will be the "best". Anti-Viruses that I will be testing: Kaspersky, Bitdefender, Webroot, ESET, Norton, F-Secure, Vipre, Trend Micro, Avira, McAfee, Avast, AVG, and Panda. My Predictions: 1. Kaspersky - Kaspersky has been dominant in the anti-virus world for a couple of years now, and I think they will keep the trend. 2. McAffe: McAfee has always been the most used anti-virus program in the world. The last two years I have seen DRAMATIC IMPROVEMENT over their detection rates, and I think these detection rates are going to be awesome. 3. Bitdefender: Bitdefender is another anti-virus that has been improving their already flawless protection. I think that they can actually be a top contender this year. 4. Avira: Avira has the best heuristics in the league, and this is really important nowadays. There are rumors that Avira will add a web guard that actually does its job and a safe-browsing option to prevent Malware before it starts. 5. Webroot: Webroot is by far the best program for Spyware. They have been improving their protection of the "common day" virus, but I don't think that their improvements will be all that great. What I'll Be Testing: Real-Time Protection: Can they prevent Malware before it strikes? Scanning Abilities: Do I have scan options that will better my protection, and will the scanning detect all of the Malware? Clean Up: Can the anti-virus clean up an already infected computer, or will the viruses remain? Detection Rates: of course. I will be testing a total of 5000 Malicious samples of my choosing. How does local computer shops remove viruses off of several different customers computers? I am thinking of starting a business and I know there are more than one way to remove each virus, but I need to know would I have to order Norton Corporate Anti-Virus protection software and install it so that it can be properly removed and the customer doesn't have anymore problems or do I just do it manually? I recently bought a new computer that came with a 60 day Norton Anti-Virus Trial. I still have protection on my old computer that died. I wanted to get credit for the 140 days or so that I still had on my old computer. I did get a response with instructions but was unable to do it as I'm not as familiar with this new computer as my old computer. I've had Kaspersky each year including this but am up for renewal and am sick of their antivirus taking forever to complete a scan and it takes up way too much of my systems resources. There are a lot of things going wrong with my computer. I suspect some kind of virus or something similar to be the cause, and I am ashamed to say that I probably let it in by not being careful enough with the internet and what I downloaded. The first thing that I noticed is that Internet Explorer stopped working. That was a while ago, so I can't remember the exact deatils. However, MSN explorer and Firefox both worked fine, so I switched to Firefox, and disabled IE. The next thing is that my virus protection program wouldn't update correctly. It seemed to update fine, but if I tried to update again after updating it, it would try to do the exact same update again. In other words, the update wouldn't "take". Later, I tried running Disk Defragmenter, but it wouldn't run. I had the extra space that it wanted, but it just wouldn't work. A few days ago, I tried to update my computer with Windows update, but found that I couldn't access the site. Almost every other site worked, but I couldn't access that one. I am running Windows XP professional edition with (I think) service pack 3. My anti-virus program is Norton Anti-Virus coporate edition. It's not the current edition, it's relatively old, but the updates still go through for the other computers used by my family that use the same program. Now, my question is simple: Can anyone think of a possible solution to my problem other than reinstalling Windows and starting over? If I did do that, would it solve my problems? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My computer's symptoms: Turns off and restarts randomly by itself. Bar at the bottom of the computer keeps changing by itself. hello i am dealing with a seemingly immortal virus. it is very annoying but doesnt seem to be threatening. every time i use yahoo, bing, google etc search engines and click a link, it takes me to a whole different advertisement page that i didnt click on. first i went into safety mode with: 1. malware bytes- this program found 7 viruses and cleaned them. i tried to go on google and it still has the reroute problem 2. then i tried my symantic anti virus. that didnt work(a horrible antivirus btw) 3. now i have norton antivirus. i tried a full scan in safety mode and it detected 109 viruses. they were mostly tracking viruses. i told the program to "Fix*" them. i restarted and i still have the problem. when i am in normal mode, i have norton antivirus up. every few seconds while using the internet it says 'blocked unauthorized something something' because the virus keeps opening advertisement pages in my firefox (without me doing anything!!!!, before it was only when i clicked) please help me remove this. another problem is that i cant update my windows, it says error 80072efe i looked up this error on google and i tried to fix it. perhaps this is what is messing up my spyware protection. please help this is very annoying more

(some people have said its just itunes, but i dont have itunes, and id never seen that window before til recently.) also, a few times now, my computer has given me the "blue error" screen, where i had to turn off the power and inproperly shut down. well i finally decided to download the free version of AVG anti-virus, and i ran a virus scan. it came back saying i had 2 "trojan horse- generic" or something like that and that it had put them in the virus vault. i googled this and it said that it was a "false positive" and nothing to worry about. just now i tried to download a program called paint.net, from a safe site by the way. and it refuses to download and keeps giving an error message that says "application not found" i am also still seeing the genius update window every time i turn on my computer. i am worried that somethings wrong. whether i still have a virus, or that i HAD a virus and it damaged my computer in some way. : / does anyone know why its doing any of these things? also, would AVG find and destroy a virus completely if i had one? thank you soo much, help is MUCH appreciated.thank you so much for the suggestions. seriously i appreciate it. i think im going to use avast, it has great ratings. thanks :) more

I had McAfee anti-virus protection but it expired so I got Norton from comcast. after I installed Norton I have lost all the icons and the start menu on my desktop, also on the internet every time I click on a link it will redirect me to something I don't want. How can I fix these problems? more

Voting Question: Woot my computer is messed up.?

I had to use this program for which i was to disable my UAC. I know it is stupid but I am 15 year old kid. So, after I disabled it. I enabled it after I was done using the program. Now what happened was that my norton 360 icon stopped showing up in the system tray. If anyone has any idea what happened to it please try to help me. I really need help, if you need to teamview me please contact me via email. The norton 360 protection program is on itself but it is just that when i need to disable the anti-virus, or firewall, it does not let me do it. more

I had my MacBook Pro for a couple months and since i heard that you can't get any viruses if you had a Mac i thought i didn't need one. I currently have the free Avg antivirus trial on my computer but no im looking to get full protection for a year or however long it's suppose to be for.
