Nortons Anti Virus Protection Questions asked
Resolved Question: Help with virus protection software...?
I had a free trial with Norton Internet Security and it is nearly run out but i don't want to renew it as i can't pay for it so i downloaded Avast Anti-Virus, but i was just wondering if the viruses on Norton will be kept in the quarantine or will they go on to my computer and muck it up? moreOpen Question: ok, this "AVG" thing seems to be most popular but will it work now?
thanks to those who answered before, AVG seems to have the highest vote for anti virus etc... I dont think i have a "virus", but perhaps some "trojans", my puter is just acting a bit funny, I dont know what i have now! I dont download at all, i dont visit "shady" sites, (cept this one!)...just regular email, fb , work and typing...etc.... So I guess i want a "whole package " protection, virus, spyware, firewall, the whole bit. My question, will AVG do all that now? or is Norton "security", the only one with "everything".................Again, thanks for your help here in the R n S section. ...and to the guy who said, Jesus would protect me from virus's?? thanks, i needed that laugh!thanx ghost, I didnt know that. moreOpen Question: Norton anti-virus software question and help with laptop problems please....?
I have a new laptop but don't have it set up yet, and my parents bought me a Norton anti virus software CD to use with it. I've not read all the bumph yet regarding installing it but was wondering had my parents wasted their money. What are the benefits of 'paying' for anti virus protection against just downloading it for free from the internet? Also my current (the one I use at the moment) laptop is not working as efficiently as it used to do ... some of the problems are: Has started working slower and sticks on pages quite a lot. Two fine lines recently appeared to the right of the screen that run vertically down the page, nothing I try works to remove them. When I switch the laptop on it beeps a couple of times and the screen stays blank. I have to switch it on and off a few times before it will start, sometimes if I leave the power on for about ten to fifteen mins then switch off and try again it usually works and turns on as normal. Any ideas what could be causing this? ... or any tips on how to sort it out would be appreciated! Thank you.I use AVG free anti-virus protection with my present laptop not Norton. moreResolved Question: Anti Virus Software questions and Laptop help please....?

My parents bought me an brand new windows 7 desktop computer on black friday sales and it is about 2 1/2 months old. The new computer gave me a trail version of Norton Internet Security 2009 with it and it protected during the trail period. It expired about a month ago and I went and bought Norton Internet Security 2010 because i like how Norton is protecting me with all the protection stuffs. Norton 2010 is a lot better then there earlier versions because it takes up less space and runs faster without slowing down the system. Some people told me that I should used an free anti virus like Free AVG Anti virus but i don't trust free anti virus programs to protect my computer because it can't be good if it's free, plus I've heard from my friends who've tried it says it puts more viruses in and does nothing to remove viruses at all. So would you trust an free anti virus and anti spyware program like AVG or Avast protect your new computer if you bought one ?? I think Norton Internet Security 2010 is better and protects you more and is more reliable. Can anyone please tell if you would trust an free anti virus program to protect your new computer if you bought one ?? moreOpen Question: If I purchase a Norton Anti-Virus Protection from a STORE, How long will my subscription last?

I once bought Norton & Macfee (however that's spelled), but I wasn't crazy about them. Norton would detect a virus but not get rid of it while the other one made my internet slow down to a crawl. I'm looking for a program that has: anti-virus, anti-malware, anti-spyware, detection & removal, protection against worms/trojans/virus etc., won't slow my pc too much, warns me of malicious sites & emails. Any suggestions please? Thanks. moreVoting Question: What is a good computer antivirus protection?
I currently have Norton Anti virus, but have been told it is not the best. HOWEVER, what do I replace it with? Cost is a factor, as well. I need something reasonably priced. Thank you. moreResolved Question: How do I stop Norton from modifying the Windows hosts file?
I do web server development and testing on my Windows 7 PC. However, Norton keeps removing my entries in the hosts file thinking they are hacking attempts. How do I get this to stop happening without having to turn off anti-virus protection? Norton seems to do this several times per day and it is driving me nuts! moreResolved Question: Inabilities of Norton Antivirus?
My computer has just revealed that it is infected. I am unable to open pages on the web, they're all replaced with a fake anti virus alert (I'm having to use another computer to type this up). I signed up and paid for Norton Antivirus protection from Symantec, blew $40 on it. I ran 2 full system scans, each coming up with a small number of virus files found and "removed." It's telling me that my system is secure and that the files have been cleaned up, yet the virus is still there, screwing with my system as much as ever. I can do nothing aside from continuously running scans. Seeing as I paid a nice fee for this anti-virus program, I want to know why it isn't finding the real problem during the many scans I've been running. Norton has always done its job in the past. The virus is more or less a common one, most likely a trojan horse. TheN XP antivirus alert (most likely a fake created by the virus itself) claims that there are 28 infected files. Norton has only found 7 (2 on the first run, 5 on the second). I restart my computer after each "clean up." What can I do about this? Why is Norton Anti-virus no longer doing its job? Also, if I simply continue running scans, is it possible that it might eventually find it? NOTE: I am using liscensed sotware, it is not Norton causing the problem. moreOpen Question: McAfee or Norton antivirus?
Which anti virus protection is better? And are there better alternatives? moreResolved Question: Which anti-virus protection is best?
I am practically computer illiterate, so please excuse the ignorance. I have no idea how it happened, but it seems that both Norton & McAfee have both charged renewals to my credit card without my permission. The e-mails I got from both companies said something about me "agreeing to the automatic annual renewal", which is something I absolutely don't remember. I know that the person I hired to set up my computer advised me to get Norton, so that's how it initially got on my computer. But I never remember subscribing to McAfee at all?????? McAfee, however, seems to be the virus protection on almost every large website I order from. I have never seen Norton on a site from which I order. One other thing - could the fact that I seemingly have both anti-virus programs at work on my computer be slowing down its performance?David B - thank you. I will try what you have suggested, and I will cancel one of the programs. Appreciate your help.I don't really know if I'm doing this the right way, but I want to thank everyone for their input. It was difficult to choose the best answer, but I did not want anybody to be offended and wanted to extend my appreciation to all who responded for your help. moreVoting Question: Norton Anti Virus help please !?
Okay, so basically I had a trial of Norton Anti Virus when I first got my laptop for Christmas I activated it on that day, it was for 90 days I think. So it kept saying recently that I was about to lose Norton so I put it on from my disc. It is still saying the same thing and this is was it says on my account... Product name : Norton internet Security Expiration Date : Trial Protection For : 1 PC Remaining Activations : None But although it keeps saying im about to lose Norton, I put it on on December 25th but on my account it says Registration Date Jan 25th 2010 Okay so I am confused did the new anti virus go on or did it not? and am I protected by it ? Cus it keeps telling me I am going to loose it :S Thanks for your help ! moreVoting Question: Okay, so I was on my computer today when a program called "Windows Vista Ant-virus 2010" pops up...?
Now, I already have a virus-protection thing called "norton", and I'm running a full system scan on my computer using Norton because I don't believe the anti-virus Vista thing when it tells me I have 25 spyware/virus things... So I'm figuring it's lying and there's guy out there laughing at his own joke or whatever, main point is the Vista anti-virus thing just WON'T go away. So, what should I do?Also, the computer that it's on won't even let me go on the internet. moreResolved Question: How come everyone always think that an free anti virus and anti spy ware program are better when It's not ?
It's getting pretty annoying because almost everyone thinks that an free anti virus and free anti spyware programs are better than the ones that you pay for at the store. This guy named optimus answered my question very stupidly, he says that saying Norton is protecting my computer is like saying Osama Bin Laden is protecting America. How Ignorant is that ?? He also says I'm not computer savvy while I am really computer savvy, I'm a 1st Year IN College Computer Technology Student so don't call me not Computer Savvy. Also, I've exprienced with free anti virus and anti spyware programs before like Avast Anti Virus And Spybot Search & Destroy and those things did nothing for me when I got infected really bad. Avast Anti virus Lets The virus get into my computer and then alerts me while Norton stops it before it gets into my Computer. I had one hard drive that crashed thanks to Free Anti Virus programs that did nothing. How come everyone thinks that Free Anti Virus And Anti Spyware programs are better than the ones that you pay for ?? In my experience the ones you pay for are more effective and more secure than the free ones. I'm using Norton Internet Security and It has total protection. Can anyone please tell me why people thinks that free ones are better when it's not ?? Check out what he said in my other question http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AgdkuPDqe38KsozetCybhbfsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20100213144306AA2gsYm moreVoting Question: do I need added anti-virus protection for my PC?

So other words, if I type in CNN into the web-search bar, an advertisement for soap or exercise equipment will show up instead. I have to keep going back to the web-search bar trying to get the designated website I want. I have to do this on average 5 to 6 times before the website I want finally comes on screen. I have the pop up blocker turned on. My security level is set to medium high. With the Norton anti-virus, the website I wanted would come up immediately. With McAfee, I have to make several attempts. What do I need to do to ensure the website I want will come on screen versus an advertisement? I also have Windows Vista, if that matters. moreVoting Question: Why cant i connect to an unsecure netork?

Okay, so there is some kind of anti virus protection thing that has apparently somehow installed itself on my computer and I have to okay every single website I go on. It's called AntiVir 2010 and it has been popping up every 5 seconds. It is annoying the fucking crap out of me but I cannot find anyway to get rid of it and I'm afraid its going to hurt my computer. I can't use Norton to try and help and my other anti virus protector doesn't show it as a threat. Has anyone had this problem before? Can anyone help me get rid of it? PLEASE it is annoying and I have a whole bunch of information on my computer that I am afraid might get spread around somehow. I have never heard of it before either. It just showed up on my computer today and I have absolutely no idea where the hell it came from. Please help me!!!!I don't think I can choose a best answer because they're all so great. It wasn't deleted with Malware but I was able to actually find that it installed itself on my computer and I deleted it manually. I think Malware didn't delete it because I was using the internet while it scanned my computer. Anyways, Thanks everyone you all were great helps. moreVoting Question: Norton anti-virus 2005 keeps kicking me offline?
Recently i had to reset my computer to it's original factory settings which includes Norton anti-virus 2005. My comp works fine for a few hours but every so often it will make all my web browsers stop working. Chrome IE and Firefox. I've figured out that it's because of the Internet Worm Protection. All i have to do to get back online is disable that for a second, load a page like say Wikipedia, then turn it back on. This seems pretty dangerous since it was a worm that made me have to reset to factory settings. So here are my questions. How do i keep Norton from blocking my browsers? (In the program control, i have chrome and firefox to permit all and IE to automatic) And is there a better free anti-virus out there? (I was using AVG for a long time but it let in a nasty virus so i'm not going to trust it again.)instead of just telling me to upgrade, tell me how i do that. moreResolved Question: I currently have AVG virus protection, and I just bought Norton Anti Virus 2010?

Everytime I try to go to a site from my search engine it rediects me to a totally different site. I thought the stopzilla and Norton antivirus was suppose to stop this from happening. Can someone please help me? moreResolved Question: How can I get the most protection when on the internet and have the lowest chance of getting a virus?
I just purchased a nice 18" laptop, up to 8 gb ram, not the latest, but still pretty recent graphics cards. Yet, it never touches the internet, because of the risk of viruses/malware nowadays. However, I was wondering if I can take all steps possible to help keep this from happening. I would just love to run World of Warcraft or Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare in their highest detail, while playing online. To do this, I thought of a few possible ideas: - Keep Windows Firewall on at ALL times, only allowing Windows Updater, WoW, COD 4: MW, and a few other MUST have programs (iTunes, Apple Updater, and only TRUSTED companies). - Activate my 60-day Norton Anti-Virus trial that came with the purchase of my computer. - Only use the internet at my house (my home Verizon Fios network). - I don't plan on browsing the web at ALL. - Keep the internet off when not in use; keep the internet on only when using the computer. - Use the internet on my Macbook, and share it to my Toshiba via Bluetooth (Would this help?) - And last, I was wondering if this could help... Close ALL ports, and only open the ports specific to the program I am using. For example, if WoW requires ports XXXX, XX, and XXX, turn them on only before logging in, and when done, turn off the ports. If I need to get a Windows Update, I'll turn on the ports required for that. Do you think this will be sufficient? Do you have any other suggestions I can try? Any advice? Help? And if you could help me explain how to do my "ports idea", that would be great. Computer specs/notes: Toshiba Satellite P500 series laptop Windows 7 Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. moreVoting Question: Computer virus won't let me run any anti virus...Please help me!!!?
Ok, where to start. My daughter got a little dell laptop 2 years ago and I never put any virus protection on it. I realize that was very stupid but in my defense I am a mac user and never have to worry about that. Anyway, it started kicking me off the internet and not allowing me back on. Now massive pop ups are coming up saying you have a virus buy this protection...yada yada. I never downloaded it and it is clearly a bad virus. So, I was able to get online with firefox and order Norton. It would not let me download until I put it into safe mode but I still can't get it to activate. It will begin activation and then tell me no response received from the symantec server. I know I'm connected. I researched the hell out of this and I tried everything they say to do on the Norton website.....nothing is working. Please if you have any idea let me know. Two of my friends have opened it and they have it too, one of them said his laptop turned off and wouldn't turn back on because it detected an error. I have NO anti-virus protection (my brother downloaded Norton instead of getting the disc because i don't have any Norton on my computer) and my previous 'free with the computer' McAfee ran out in december. I got my computer in may time and WHAT SHALL I DO?!?ALSO, I HAVE CHANGED MY MSN PASSWORD BUT IT KEEPS DOING ITi did know this person and we were talking about an inspection at school and i thought it was a link to what we were talking about, thanks. I just did system restore and it's gone. I'd appreciate HELPFUL answers next time, < to some people. moreVoting Question: Laptop Freezing after logging in.?
I have a friend who owns a Gateway Laptop running 2.0 GHz CPU, 4 gigs ram and a 400 gigabyte hard drive with only 60 gigs used. after 3-5 minutes of logging in the computer freezes, where only the mouse pointer moves around, but i can not seem to do anything else. I'm not sure if this is a virus of some sort or its hardware related. My friend had an expired norton anti-virus, so basically no protection other than windows firewall and defender. I managed to install my own anti virus, but the system freezes before i can do anything. I tried getting into safe mode, and running the anti virus, but i ended up getting the dreaded blue screen of death after about an hour of scanning. I even tried running a registry cleaner to see if that could buy me some time, but it then it gets stuck on an unending scan of (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node). I'm starting to wonder if that could be the root of the problem. Also after rebooting, i sometimes get a Disk check, which always gets stuck at 53%. Im trying to avoid the recovery disk until i exhausted all possibilities. moreResolved Question: Have Norton Anti Virus, and i have a bug on my computer, but Norton says everything is ok?
I have 3 other people using this computer, I had reordered my virus protection (Norton) end of December. On January 2nd a notice came up that my computer was at risk, and I should order some program. You cannot delete this program unless you just shut down the page. Every time I open my computer with my ID, it is there, I don't know how to get rid it, no place to shut it off and whenever I try to open a page it is there, and Norton claims everything is okay, no viruses. the other 2 people using same computer does not have this on their page. moreResolved Question: Secondary virus scanner? Hi guys, Can someone tell me of a free and half decent virus scanner for the purpose?

I have a new laptop and put on Norton Anti-virus protection. I am on dial-up internet (and it is not possible for me to get high speed) and it is too slow to download the updates. I have been driving to town and using the high speed at the library but not as often as I should, because of time etc. Someone told me that I could save the updated virus definitions etc to a flash drive and then install them on my computer, but I'm not sure how. Any help? Thanks. moreResolved Question: a great anti-virus program i can buy?
