I recently got a server from a teacher who had it for years. I'm not using it for business, or in a corporate environment, I took it mostly because we needed a second computer in the house. My plan had been to uninstall the anti-virus that was on the machine (Symantec) and put on Avira Free edition. I didn't find out that you can't use free software on a server until after I uninstalled Symantec. Does anyone know of any free "server edition" anti virus software? Or am I going to have to suck it up and start paying for protection? more

Tried running full system scans with my Symantec Antivirus (Corporate Edition), Ad-Aware, Spybot, and Regcleaner. These protection softwares usually do a very good job at finding these viruses and malwares too. Even after I thought I cleaned out all the malwares, I still keep getting unwanted popups everytime I open my web browser Firefox and any website I go to at all (even legit sites). This issue happened few days ago. Somehow when I thought I shouldn't encounter this if I use IE, it somehow did spread over to that too. Know any anti-spywares (free or paid) that can detect these once and for all when the other major protection softwares (Symantec, Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc...) can't?Also, these annoying popups appear everytime I even just open a blank tab on my Firefox browser.I see that MalwareBytes can find what Ad-Aware and Spybot can't. Hello My computer is still infected with a virus dry.gif s that blocks access to anti-spy ware programs. When I click the programs they say "Windows cannot access files because you might not have the proper permissions to access the item.". Also in website like Google when I click a search link it takes me to a website trying to sell stuff. Different every time. I also cannot access safe mode. I stopped some of the processes but it said you do not have permission to do so. Also I tried doing that to the start up things but it also won't let me. I clicked on a weblink, and symantec corporate antivirus autoscan popped up and told me that I had a bloodhound.pdf.10 infection. The norton virus technician told me that there is no infection left on the computer, and indeed, when you open symantec, there is nothing in the quarantine box or repaired items box. However, there is still an entry of the infection in the risk history, and when i select the entry, and try to delete it, it tells me that i can't take that action. I am wondering why there is still an entry of the infection in the risk history, even if my computer seems to be ok right now, and the technician said it was gone. more

My computer which is running a Windows XP operating system has started to spontaneously shut itself down and restart itself in Windows 98. Its newest trick is not allowing me to use the mouse. This problem does not occur when I boot in safe mode (w/ networking). I have scanned (with updated definitions) using (1) spybot, (2), lavaware- ad-ware, (3) malwarebytes' anti malware, (4) SUPERantispyware free edition, (5) symantec Antivirus corporate edition, (6) PC tools spyware doctor, (7) norman, (8) AVG anti-virus free edition, and (9) windows defender. And I still have this problem. I have found and removed tons of other malware but this problem persists. I also deleted a "launcher" program using spybot's system startup tool, because it was described as spyware. this did not stop the problem either. scanned the laptopn with NAV but it said it's clean, so i webt online and scanned it by symantec online scanning system on their website which returned 3 virus infections (w32.sillyFDC, inforstealer.gampass and Trojan horse). The online tool does not remove a threat it only detects it. hello everyone, i had a question about the virus program im using right now. i was originally using symantec Norton anti virus corporate edition (not sure which version it is, but i think it from around 2003) , but i noticed that every 6 months or so i would get a virus, which would be quarantined but never removed, so i would have to reformat to get rid of it.. also i noticed when i loaded it every test i would run would have a scan omission error, and all the fixes i tried from the company never fixed the error. so i decided to try avg free as my virus protection this time around. my question is, will the avg free provide enough protection for my system (i also run spybot search and destroy for ad/spyware) or should i go back to the NAV and try to get it to work.alright.... before anyone goes on a rant about how mine is better than yours...stop, i just want the straight facts. thanksalso i didnt pay for the norton... i got it from my dad's work... more

I've got a PC that originally had XP pro and some earlier version of symantec anti-virus corporate edition, now I've upgraded to Vista Ultimate and want to get another anti-virus program on board. Every time I try to remove the old symatec anti-virus program I get a message saying that the uninstaller isn't "Vista compatible". I've tried the removal tool from the symatec website but the program is still in my list of programs and I get error messages when I try to install another anti-virus, saying that there is another anti-virus program installed (i.e., symantec). I've removed the symatec files from the registry so at least I don't get 5 error messages when I start up my Vista PC. Any one know how to get rid of this once and for all????? more

My roommate was using my Dell Latitude D610 Laptop and the moron got a virus on it. I ran Symantec Anti Virus Corporate edition (provided to me by my university), and Lavasoft Ad-aware Pro. Its taken weeks to get the virus off my computer, Symantec didn't recognize it for awhile, and then it started showing up on daily virus scans. (I ran the scanner every day). 1. i've scanned my computer through Norton 2005 Trial version and it shows both these files as infected as Symantec Corporate Edition 9 did, i am facing many problems becoz of this but all the people says its just the damn system files.. i don know why the anti virus show it infected.. but it cannot remove it. 2. i cannot browse my C: D: and E : drive from my computer, only when i explore through Explorer... when i try to browse from my computer, it opens the programme association window, asking for programme to choose ?? its nonsense... m getting mad guys... help me out please... thanks more

Well, I have three anti-spyware programs installed on my computer besides having Symantec Anti-virus Corporate edition. When I run an anti-spyware program, it detects some threats and then clean them in its own way. When I run a second anti-spyware program quickly after the first, it also detects some threats and cleans them. Does this mean that anti-spyware is never effective because each anty-spyware detects one or the other threat, no matter if you have already run one ? more

Resolved Question: i have problem to writing files on the ftp server. I have 4 different ftp server accounts but same problem.?

I used CuteFTP, SmartFTP and Windows Explorer to upload files on th FTP server. I have 4 different FTP accounts for 4 domains. Windows Explorer Says: FTP Folder Error An error occurred copying a file to the FTP Server. Make sure you have permission to put files on the server. Details: 200 TYPE is now 8-bit binary 227 Entering Passive Mode (70, 84, 162, 126, 226) 150 Accepted data connection 450-Error during write to file: Disk quota exceeded 450 index.html partially uploaded. I have enough space to upload files on the FTP servers. I think there is some kind of virus, spyware, trojans etc am using Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition 10 with updated definitions and GIANT Anti-Spyware with updated definitions.
