Resolved Question: Why is my internet slow?

I have a problem with my internet speed. it was fine, then became slower and slower as time went on. I have done numerus virus scans with many top rated anti-virus soft ware. i tryed malwarebytes and it found nothing. i tryed changing my router setting. Then i tryed ccleaner, and it seemed to have worked amazingly well. my internet was back and running like new, but then i went on to facebook and now my internet is slower than its ever been. sometimes it wont even load the page. I'm sick of throwing money at this with no results. I've spen nearly $1000 on software that promises to "speed up your internet" only to be back at the same problem. recently I recieved a phone call from someone with a thick accent that told me he found malware on my computer and that if i didn't pay $109 to his company my windows would stop working altogether. I have never given out my phone number at all! it's a private line! I don't know how this person got my number but to say the least i was mad and told him to stay out of my computer then i hung up. Sure enough the next mourning my laptop was not able to start up windows and i'm in the process of completely wipeing it (inclueding the partion witch was also corruped) and installing windows from scratch. How can i prevent this from happening to my other computers? My laptop was running anti-virus software with a URL scanner.i have defraged and i have done all normal mataince it's not as simple as msconfig and verison SUCKS!i would love to afford to buy new windows for all my computers but that's just not going to happen. I've had norton before and i was VERY unhappy with it. It cost alot more than most anti-spyware, it's a huge program, it uses alot of resourse and it didn't stop this situation that i'm in. spybot-search and destroy seems to be a good bot remover but anyone who wants this program should be aware there are many copy cat programs that come up with any search for that program. I am very carefull with what I click on, it's a good point tho. Even when down loading a program I've used before I read everything. many things come with toolbars, change your home page, or worst. be carefull to read everything is a common rule everyone should follow. Now that i've explained that I'm not new to this is there anyone who can help me get my other computers back to a useable state with out spending $200 a pop for a new windows. more

It is time for my yearly testing of some of the top anti-virus programs, and I want you to express your opinion on who will be the "best". Anti-Viruses that I will be testing: Kaspersky, Bitdefender, Webroot, ESET, Norton, F-Secure, Vipre, Trend Micro, Avira, McAfee, Avast, AVG, and Panda. My Predictions: 1. Kaspersky - Kaspersky has been dominant in the anti-virus world for a couple of years now, and I think they will keep the trend. 2. McAffe: McAfee has always been the most used anti-virus program in the world. The last two years I have seen DRAMATIC IMPROVEMENT over their detection rates, and I think these detection rates are going to be awesome. 3. Bitdefender: Bitdefender is another anti-virus that has been improving their already flawless protection. I think that they can actually be a top contender this year. 4. Avira: Avira has the best heuristics in the league, and this is really important nowadays. There are rumors that Avira will add a web guard that actually does its job and a safe-browsing option to prevent Malware before it starts. 5. Webroot: Webroot is by far the best program for Spyware. They have been improving their protection of the "common day" virus, but I don't think that their improvements will be all that great. What I'll Be Testing: Real-Time Protection: Can they prevent Malware before it strikes? Scanning Abilities: Do I have scan options that will better my protection, and will the scanning detect all of the Malware? Clean Up: Can the anti-virus clean up an already infected computer, or will the viruses remain? Detection Rates: of course. I will be testing a total of 5000 Malicious samples of my choosing. Each anti-virus will have the exact same samples. I will test real-time protection and I'll test the anti-virus on an already infected computer. I will be testing each anti-virus on a different computer with Windows 7. Each computer will be exactly alike in every way to prevent contamination of the experiment. I downloaded an Aquarium Screensaver last night...but I decided to uninstall it because I was not happy w/ it. So I had trouble uninstalling it and had a funny feeling about it so I googled the screensaver I downloaded and found that the screensaver had malware so I went into panic mode. So I then went to Cnet and downloaded AVG Anti-Virus, Avast, and Ad-Aware figuring that with these 3 top rated cleaning tools I would be OK but when I turned the pc on this morning, Internet Explorer never loaded and I could not get anything else to open....so I did Ctrl Alt Del and went to processes and found that I had tons of things running....could that be the problem? I am not tech-savvy so I don't know what should be running and what shouldn't.... what should I do? Should I uninstall Ad-Aware and the other pc cleaning programs if get the pc to finally start up? Do I really need just one or two?? Help please....I cannot afford to buy another computer :( more

Resolved Question: How do I get the "You're having security problems" pop-up removed?

Ok, so. Please read this all and give me your honest answer. I was in the middle of chatting on msn. And this thing popped up saying my laptop has viruses. So, I scanned my computer with "Microsoft Malicious Software Removal." Now, I re-scanned everything on my computer, and says "no threats found." But down in the corner where the time and things, it shows a red shield with a white "X" through it. And like every 5 minutes, it pops up saying "You have a security problem." Then some thing from Anti-Virus 2009 keeps popping up saying your computer has a virus, would you like to scan now?" But the thing is, its kind of fishy how It wont let you click anywhere because its like a fake window if u want to call it that. Like it shows up, with no site name in the blue bar at the top, it shows a regular window with stuff on it, then a red X like a normal window, nut then my red X is on top of it, and u cant click anywhere on it. Before you answer, I have read reviews on different ones. http://antivirus.about.com/od/antivirussoftwarereviews/a/freeav_2.htm Avast and AVG do not seem to be good when it comes to detecting spyware. While Avast has a pretty good detection rate, its still not good with anti spyware. Opinion : Well,it's troublesome doing all these steps to maintain a clean computer,the worst is,when the user doesn't know that his/her computer is infected. Cause not all harmful stuffs has Obvious Symptoms. -------------------------- Basic Browser Setting Browser - Firefox latest version Settings - Under tools button,click option,go privacy tab. *Un tick all the history settings *Un tick all the cookies settings,enable cookie only (not third party cookies) when you're login at website. *Untick ask before clearing privacy data. *Go to security tab,untick all the passwords settings. *Go to advanced tab,make the offline storage to zero mb Internet Options Settings *Tick all the correct internet settings,untick those save passwords etc. *Under security tab,make internet medium setting *Under security tab,Local intranet is High setting,will not have negative effects on the sites that you're viewing. *Under security tab,Trust sites is also High setting,will not have negative effects on the sites that you're viewing. *Under security tab,Restricted site is also High or Custom settings (Custom probably by anti spyware,etc like spybot listed the correct restricted site settings in there) *Under privacy tab,click advanced,prompt for first party cookies (applies to internet explorer,so prompt is the best setting) ,and must tick block third party cookies. *Under content tab,un tick all the Auto Complete settings. --------------------------------------... AIDS threat emerging in Indian 'call center Romeos' (Agencies) Updated: 2008-06-22 15:36 KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- A new AIDS threat is rising in India's numerous call centers, where young staff are increasingly having unprotected sex with multiple partners in affairs developed during night shifts, a top AIDS expert has warned. While India has made great strides in bringing down its HIV infection rate, the promiscuity among "call center Romeos" is a great concern, Dr. Suniti Solomon, who detected the first HIV case in India in 1986, told an international medical conference Saturday. The United Nations, however, still estimates there are some 2.5 million Indians living with HIV and AIDS now. "India has reached a plateau of the infections," Solomon told the International Congress on Infectious Diseases, which ends Sunday. Her concern now is the call centers, where many of the young staff work at night to correspond with the daytime working hours of their American and European clients. "They have all the money. They huddle together in the night. They are young, they are sexually active, so naturally they start," Solomon, who runs an AIDS center in the southern city of Chennai, told The Associated Press in a separate interview. She said at least three or four call center workers visit her clinic every week to get tested for HIV because they are worried after having unprotected sex. It is estimated that India's call centers employ some 1.3 million people, mostly youths fresh out of school and colleges, earning a starting salary of 25,000 rupees (US$600) a month, more than a government doctor's paycheck. "You will see call center Romeos are a major high risk for HIV," Solomon said. There are no figures for how many call center workers are infected with HIV. Citing confessions by the visitors to her center, Solomon said groups of young men and women rent apartments along the beach during the weekends and end up having multiple-partner sex. "If they are having sex just among themselves, and all are non-infected it is fine. But if there is one person who has gone out of this group and brought in the virus, it will spread to everyone," she said. While the "call center Romeo" situation is a reflection of recent liberal values, India's anti-AIDS fight is also hampered by society's coexisting conservatism, Solomon told the conference. She said this is evident in Hindu activists' opposition to circumcision -- which is proven to help inhibit HIV transmission -- on the grounds that it is against tradition and religion of Hindu-majority India. Solomon said she does not expect India to accept circumcision for preventing HIV infections. A recent government study to gauge the acceptance for circumcision triggered a massive backlash by Hindu fundamentalists, who called it "obnoxious" and "a conspiracy." "If you go out into the streets and say I will do this (circumcision) to reduce HIV, there will be a chaos," she said. "Vaccines have failed. Microbicides have failed. This is one tool we have in hand but we can't use it." more

The Javascript is designed to circumvent popup blocking by security applications. so what i was wondering since i scanned it found it deletedto trojan, then scanned it with the best top rated anti virus and anti spyware programs do you think i am safe, also if i reinstall my windows vista will it go away because when you reinstall windows vista, i creates a brand new windows folder, and it leaves the old windows folder in a folder called WINDOWS.OLD for you to delete everything you ever had more

Resolved Question: I'm under heavy attack from spyware and malware uploaded from a phoney anti-virus site. Help?

I can't get rid of it! It started with a media player update to play a local footage provided by a odd friend. Then after loads of spyware came into my computer with Anti-Virgear right behind it. It uploaded numberous software without me noticing and was said to be the source of the problem. I ran an AOL scan sometime ago. It's quickscan only detected 2 and was blocked...but a problem made a full scan to scan very slow to the rate that it would take up to 4 days to finish...time I don't have. On top of that, I can't update the security features because of proof of purchase problems. Now I having this unremovable "Security Toolbar 7.1" on my Internet Explore toolbar and two pestering icons telling me every 5 minutes of a spyware alert when they are the spyware. They can't be detected no other way and all of my computer software can't find them. Is there a way to get rid of them? more

Resolved Question: Why did my Zone Alarm Anti Virus suddenly disappear from my computer?

Lately our router or something like it was acting up pretty bad so we had to do without it with our only protection from things on the net being Zone Alarm. But just a matter of minutes ago I opened up the window, checked what was going on in general with it, and then it said "not responding" at the top. I tried exiting out of it and the window wouldn't close, then when it finally closed it disappeared from those small icons at the bottom right hand of my screen right next to the time. So what happened??
