Anti American Sentiment Questions asked

Open Question: If the US ever went to war with Pakistan would India help us?

I am an American and I recently noticed strained relations between the US and Pakistan is actually going down hill so hypothetically speaking if the US ever went to war with Pakistan (and China stayed out of it) would India help us, help Pakistan or not get involved. Caroline visited Pakistan back in 2007 and she told me that there is a high level of anti-American sentiment in India and Pakistan so I'm actually quite confused now. more

Resolved Question: Is the U.S. position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict undermining the regional stability of the Middle East?

The US has spent billions of dollars on military interventions pursuing a strategy of dual containment in the Middle East. However, the plight of Palestinian refugees and Israel's refusal to abide by peace accords it signed has been a major source of Anti-American sentiment in Arab nations due to US's pro-Israel stance on the issue since the war of 1967. Would America's tax dollars be better spent on a relocation program for Palestinians similar to the UN's orderly departure program for Vietnamese refugees during the 1980s? More active intervention would improve the US's relations with Arab states. Such a program would also undoubtedly be much cheaper than the war in Iraq and would be more effective long-term in solving certain regional conflicts. Why doesn't the US adopt this strategy? more

Resolved Question: Does being Anti-illegal immigrant mean you’re anti-Latino?

Beyond the noisy town hall meetings, Tea Party protests and sky-is-falling speeches characterizing much of the health care debate is a less visible, but no less intense push to broaden the face of the immigration reform movement. With the 2010 election year looming, Democrat Barack Obama in the White House and increasing numbers of Asian-American and Pacific Islanders in Congress, many groups, including the NAACP, are working harder in the traditionally Latino-led movement, sensing a fresh opportunity to overhaul laws affecting millions of immigrants, both legal and illegal. "For far too long, the Latino population in the U.S. has really borne the brunt of the anti-immigrant sentiment," said Rep. Yvette Clarke, D-N.Y. Washington NAACP bureau director Hillary Shelton said: "The immigration debate needs to have, in addition to a Latino face, it needs to have a Haitian face. It needs to have an Asian face." Resolved Question: Amanda Knox / Hillary Clinton appeal?

So apparently the only reason Miss Knox was found guilty was because she was 'American' and anti-American sentiment dictated the verdict. That is the biggest load of s**te ive heard since 'if the glove dont fit, u must acquit' (OJ Simpson trial). Fact of the matter is, the Italians, if they do 'hate' a nationality, hate the british more than the yanks because english tourists tend to go over there and get p*ssed, puke outside restaurants and bars, disrespect property, and cause brawls with the locals. But this isn't about nationality, that is an excuse. Honestly, is it any wonder that other countries hate Americans when they take this attitude? It's like the playground bully crying the whole world is out to get them. Miss Knox's guilty verdict was not because she was 'american,' it was because the jury felt the evidence, which was more than sufficient to convict her, proved her guilt. You don't hear the english rambling on about how Meredith was killed, or targeted to be killed, cos she was british, do you? what a load of b*llocks. And ironically, its Hollywood who have traditionally made most villains in films British. perhaps the yanks should consider that. And if Hillary Clinton gets involved in this, that is one good reason to never allow women in politics or any decision making position. If this case is appealed, and it probably will be, with the assistance and/or backing of VIPs such as Clinton or the American media who paint Knox as a saint done wrong by, shame on the lot of them. What a f*cking disgrace. My respects to the Kercher family let's hope common sense prevails. more

Resolved Question: On what basis would there be anti America sentiment by Italians?

I am speaking of the oft suggested notion that that figured in the Amanda Knox trial. I have also heard perhaps it was due to the fact that the murder took place in a small town and they are not as open to foreigners as those in large cities.. Still given the high percentage of Italian Americans and visits by Americans to Italy each year...... more

Resolved Question: Why is Sarah Palin still being viciously attacked?

It’s been over a year since the election of 2008 and yet Sarah Palin cannot show up in the news without a barrage of vicious attacks from the media. Although she is no longer a candidate for vice president, the vitriol continues to spew over the release of her book, "Going Rogue: An American Life." Many think the anti-Sarah sentiment stems from her solid pro-life position but I would like to explore reasons that go way beyond her feelings about abortion. As you look back in history to the late 1960s and 1970s, you see a wave of feminist ideals being sold to women, including the notion that they needed to delay motherhood to get ahead in their careers. Many women bought into this belief that giving birth and career advancement didn’t mix. So what happened? Many women chose the birth control route, delaying marriage and childbirth well into their thirties and even forties. Their biological clocks ticked away and they sacrificed the most fertile time in their lives for career advancement and what they thought would be true happiness. Some, when faced with an unplanned pregnancy they believed would interfere with their careers, chose the abortion route. They sacrificed the life of their unborn child for their own personal career advancement. Now enter Sarah Palin, a woman with a husband, children and a high-profile career. Yes, this hockey Mom went from school board, to mayor, to governor to a vice presidential candidate! And her own unplanned pregnancy ended not in the hands of an abortionist, but in the loving embrace of the Palin family. Now when the women who sacrificed motherhood either by abortion or birth control look at Sarah, they can’t stand her, even if they can’t explain why. Because she was able to have a family and a career, they see her as having the best of both worlds. They see, in this confident, self-possessed, accomplished woman, surrounded by a loving family, everything they gave up. In a nation that has lost more than 50 million children to abortion, we have millions of women who have these repressed feelings. Many have suffered silently from these negative consequences since their abortion. I know first-hand about this trauma and I invite anyone still dealing with the pain, shame and regret of abortion to visit www.SilentNoMoreAwareness.org. The next time you hear Sarah being attacked so viciously, consider that it might be because we are a nation that has been wounded by abortion. What do you think? ********************************************************************************************* more

Resolved Question: Will Christianity survive if Israel is destroyed? Will America survive Obama?

The prediction in the Bible was that a messiah, or messenger, was to be sent by God to give self rule to the children of Israel. If an Antichrist (Muslim) were elected as American president because he pretended during the election to be Christian (even though clearly he casted aside his Christian name of Barry Soetero for Barack Hussein Obama ) and now admits to Arabs he still embraces the religion of his childhood and of the land where he was born, then what? Since in August Ob ama went so far as to appoint what he calls "devout Muslims" to Homeland Security posts... and two days ago he scolded Israel for building homes in their own nation because Arabs want to live there... - and he now neglects to place his hand over his heart along with everyone else during the recent memorial for our recently dead American soldiers- then what? If an Anti-Christ Muslim were to be elected president why woulld he not assist those of the "Death to America" sentiment and run up huge deficits, be in favor of abortion of our babies, force us to submit to bad health care, to please our enemies whom he loves because they are good devout Muslims who shout from every mountain top " DEATH TO ISRAEL AND DEATH TO AMERICA !" then what? After such a president were to attempt to disintegratesIsrael through clever propaganda convincing the world Isr4ael has no right to exist, then will he destroy America too so Arabs can leave their infertile deserts and take over the lands of the pilgrims pride, land where our father's died, and let, from every mountain side, the "sweetest sound he ever heard" (prayers to Allah) ring? If the Anti Christ wins, then it will mean that all the Biblical predictions lof what Jesus was supposed to accomplished has failed. And that he was not the savior because we were not deserving of being saved... then what?. Then why wouldn't Jews and Christians will all be put to the sword so that Arabs can move away from their infertile hostile deserts to our prairies and purple mountains, majesty, above the fruited plains? Then will good Christians, being given the choice between life as Muslims or death as Christians ,after their right to bear arms has been revoked and the New Muslim American regime sends their soldiers our doors... realize that because Jesus failed to accomplish what he was supposed to accomplish that he was a false messiah and join the Muslim religion to stay alive? Or will they gladly allow themselves to be beheaded, as according to Quran's instructions, hoping to be immediatgely accepted into heaven because they believe in Christ? more

Resolved Question: How come all the activists walk the walk talk the talk but do not part with their own money for their causes?

Since the raid, the church has been struggling to raise money – tens of thousands of dollars a week — to pay rent and buy food for some of the workers and their families. Church staff are also scrambling to raise funds to bring witnesses and supporters to Sioux Falls, S.D., where Rubashkin’s trials are being held. Rubashkin supporters flew in from around the world to attend the first trial; Ouderkirk said church staff and others want to show solidarity with the workers even if it means scrounging up gas money and sleeping on couches for the duration of the second trial. Many small businesses have closed since the deportation of a large chunk of the town’s population, especially those who patronized Guatemalan and Mexican stores and restaurants. Several new small factories have opened recently, but Ouderkirk thinks city officials are fixated on reviving Agriprocessors, with little attention to working conditions, at the expense of nurturing other businesses. As production has ramped up at the re-opened meatpacking plant, tensions have stirred as new workers have come in, including Somali refugees, African Americans from other places and even people from the U.S. territorial island of Palau. Dismayed by the working conditions and cold weather, the Palauns have since left. Ouderkirk said the region is characterized by a mix of support and sympathy for immigrants and virulent anti-immigrant sentiment. “I say the raid dropped the sword of Damacles on this town,” Ouderkirk said. “It’s cut the town, and the town is still bleeding." On Thursday, Sholom Rubashkin, former manager of the Agriprocessors kosher meatpacking plant in Postville, Iowa, was found guilty of 86 felony fraud charges.......http://inthesetimes.com/working/entry/5178/conviction_cold_comfort_for_detained_deported_immigrant_workers/ more

Resolved Question: Will anti-incumbent sentiment be the kiss of death for Democrats in 2010?

The mood of America is glum. Two-thirds of the public is dissatisfied with the way things are going in the country. Fully nine-in-ten say that national economic conditions are only fair or poor, and nearly two-thirds describe their own finances that way -- the most since the summer of 1992. Resolved Question: Where is the Justice?

Are we driven by Media Propaganda? Has Media (Propaganda) found Nidal Hassan guilty? While the world community have divided their opinion to praise or condemn the act of Nidal Hassan. Are we driven by Media Propaganda in terms of finding out the truth about the incidents? Is it not possible he put himself in this position for a reason?. Didn't the Muslim Pilots also take training here in the US to then later carry out their agenda?. In light of the new info, coming out on this man, isn't it obvious now this was in fact a terrorist attack?. FORT HOOD, Texas – In retrospect, the signs of Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan's growing anger over the U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan seem unmistakable. In the months leading to Thursday's shooting spree that left 13 people dead and 29 others wounded, Hasan raised eyebrows with comments that the war on terror was "a war on Islam" "The system is not doing what it's supposed to do," said Dr. Val Finnell, who complained to administrators at a military university about what he considered Hasan's "anti-American" rants. "He at least should have been confronted about these beliefs, told to cease and desist, and to shape up or ship out." Finnell studied with Hasan from 2007-2008 in the master's program in public health at the military's Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md., where Hasan persistently complained about perceived anti-Muslim sentiment in the military and injected his politics into courses where they had no place "In retrospect, I'm not surprised he did it," Finnell said of the shootings. "I had real questions about what his priorities were, what his beliefs were." His fellow students complained to the faculty about Hasan's "anti-American propaganda," but said a fear of appearing discriminatory against a Muslim student kept officers from filing a formal complaint. Hasan reportedly jumped up on a desk and shouted "Allahu akbar!" — Arabic for "God is great!" — at the start of Thursday's attack. Nonetheless, this anti-Arab and anti-Muslim sentiment carefully conceived and nurtured by a very powerful and creative gangs. However, their dirty game failed to protect many “white women” being raped by their own brothers and fathers! Surely, no one can blame the “Lebanese” and “Muslims” for these crimes!CAPTAIN LALOR, THEY'RE OURS, THE ENEMY, GALLIPOLI, GALLIPOLI and Bull Shit Nationalism failed to wake up Australia. Israelis control America. Iraq Was Invaded to Secure Israel and Iraq pullout would hurt Israel reconfirm the power of Israel and vulnerability of USA confirmed by The USA Under Israeli Feet because of American Enemies. Similarly, Australians were forced to fight other peoples’ war before and after Gallipoli. Naturally the illegal and immoral invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan based on totally false and fabricated reason and ground are a sad indictment for Australia. Political leaders, media moguls and elite power brokers made these decisions without proper debate or discussions inside or outside parliament. Virtually they black mailed our nation towards immoral, illegal and un-winnable wars. In short, people who are pushing our nation in wars outside Australia and not in defense of Australia are worse than this silly Sheikh Haron. When a non-Muslim commits any crime no one expects the respective community and community leaders to come out and condemn their fellow member. Therefore no on should expect Muslim community and Muslim leaders to condemn any individual’s alleged crime. Let’s stop any trial by media as well as stop inciting against Muslims based on Israel centric tradition. Dr. Mohamad Haneef, Mamdouh Habib, David Hicks, … all are private individuals. If they commit the crime let them serve the time. However, no one should be guilty before even being charged! Unfortunately all of these people were tried by the media as are far too many people in this world. The media have been also crucifying all Muslims and Arabs because of these people’s alleged crimes! The presumption of innocence, fairness, notion of justice or any other cherished values disappeared over the horizon! Sadly, the litany of crimes of these peoples are not anywhere near that of Bush, Blair and Howard. Let’s just keep this all in perspective. It appears many Israelis and their supporters around the world have been conducting their own Arab Israel wars from their bunkers around the world. These accusers do not need any evidence or so it appears! They are willing to create evidence, ignore evidence or any debate. They even have the power and ability, or so they believe, to make anyone guilty without the need for any evidence, whatsoever! Bat Yeor, Melanie Phillips, Prof. Raphael Israeli, Daniel Pipes and many more Zionists/"Jews/Israelis are borrowing entire chapters and verses from Adolph Hitler's Mein Kampf, using Hitler’s tactics against Arabs and Muslims, all without impunity. Sadly, many gullible people follow them! Ironically, Australia has been throwing itself into other peoples wars. This has occurred before and after WW1 and even to this day. None of those actions are in defense of Australia or beneficial for Australia. Indeed, even many of those wars are illegal and immoral. Most noticeably, the Australian government’s blind support of Israeli war crimes, ethnic cleansing and genocide against people of Palestine are shocking and beyond redemption. I oppose and condemn violence. Be that initiated by an individual, group or a state! Violence is the preferred option for morally and politically bankrupt and wicked party such as Israel, USA and the Deputy Sheriff of the Pacific, Australian government! Therefore based on this alleged and latest terrorist plot, no one should be inciting against Muslims and Arabs right now. Remember, we know nothing about these individuals and their crimes, their mental state, etc …. . Irritatingly, the modern day Joseph Goebbels, Australia’s own Rupert Murdoch managed to print the story even before the operation! The powers that be and the press knew in advance about all of this. The same predictable groups of people are now publicly jumping about and are now calling to have all Muslims heads on a platter for allegedly conspiring to kill Jesus at Jerusalem and his brother James at Rome. Is it Dr. Mohamad Haneef all over again?Once again, the “Howard Mantra” to hate the migrants is not a solution. Therefore, Australian leaders who are sending their own children in other people wars and letting them die for nothing are worse than Sheikh Haron. Resolved Question: Is Mt. Rushmore an American monument to Native Genocide?

In 1779, George Washington instructed Major General John Sullivan to attack Iroquois people. Washington stated, "lay waste all the settlements around...that the country may not be merely overrun, but destroyed". In the course of the carnage and annihilation of Indian people, Washington also instructed his general not "listen to any overture of peace before the total ruin of their settlements is effected". (Stannard, David E. AMERICAN HOLOCAUST. New York: Oxford University Press, 1992. pp. 118-121.) In 1783, Washington's anti-Indian sentiments were apparent in his comparisons of Indians with wolves: "Both being beast of prey, tho' they differ in shape", he said. George Washington's policies of extermination were realized in his troops behaviors following a defeat. Troops would skin the bodies of Iroquois "from the hips downward to make boot tops or leggings". Indians who survived the attacks later re-named the nation's first president as "Town Destroyer". Approximately 28 of 30 Seneca towns had been destroyed within a five year period. In 1807, Thomas Jefferson instructed his War Department that, should any Indians resist against America stealing Indian lands, the Indian resistance must be met with "the hatchet". Jefferson continued, "And...if ever we are constrained to lift the hatchet against any tribe, " he wrote, "we will never lay it down till that tribe is exterminated, or is driven beyond the Mississippi." Jefferson, the slave owner, continued, "in war, they will kill some of us; we shall destroy all of them". In 1812, Jefferson said that American was obliged to push the backward Indians "with the beasts of the forests into the Stony Mountains". One year later Jefferson continued anti-Indian statements by adding that America must "pursue [the Indians] to extermination, or drive them to new seats beyond our reach". In 1862, President Abraham Lincoln ordered the execution, by hanging, of 38 Dakota Sioux prisoners in Mankato, Minnesota. Most of those executed were holy men or political leaders of their camps. None of them were responsible for committing the crimes they were accused of. Coined as the Largest Mass Execution in U.S. History. (Brown, Dee. BURY MY HEART AT WOUNDED KNEE. New York: Holt, Rinehart, Winston, 1970. pp. 59-61) The fourth face you see on that "Stony Mountain" is America's first twentieth century president, alleged American hero, and Nobel peace prize recipient, Theodore Roosevelt. This Indian fighter firmly grasped the notion of Manifest Destiny saying that America's extermination of the Indians and thefts our their lands "was ultimately beneficial as it was inevitable". Roosevelt once said, "I don't go so far as to think that the only good Indians are dead Indians, but I believe nine out of ten are, and I shouldn't like to inquire too closely into the case of the tenth". Why do Americans only point the finger at others like the NAZI's? Is Mt. Rushmore a testament to America's home grown Arianism?RayHere and Lorenzo: Those may be the 2 most pathetic answers ever given on YA. more

Resolved Question: ...and what do you think?

Dr. Hanan Ashrawi Ramallah, Palestine Dear Dr. Ashrawi, I first became familiar with you in the year 1990 when you were interviewed by various media outlets for U.S. television. You came across to me as a “moderate” whose only desire was for peace between Israel and the Palestinians. Over the subsequent years, I have come to admire you greatly, not only for your intelligence and your humane perception of the situation concerning both sides of the conflict, but also by your incorruptibility. The latter, I know is the reason for your eventual break with the PLO. Even though I am a Jewish Zionist, in 1991 I traveled from Kibbutz Gadot to Tulkarim in order to donate clothes to an orphanage there. This was a dangerous endeavor since as you know, Jews or Israelis are really not welcome there in any capacity. But I thought it worth the risk in order to show the Palestinians that we also have a humane heart like yourself. Ever since Rabin died, I have noticed a decline in the Israeli government’s morals and values that I once thought of as righteous and just, (or maybe I was always naïve and just woke up out of an idealistic stupor). But the recent Gaza incursion has vindicated my original thoughts concerning the Israeli government . Rabin would never have perpetrated such a barbaric act as regards the killing of innocent children. I don’t know if you are familiar with Yahoo’s Answer forum where participants are allowed to ask and answer questions on various topics. In the “Travel Section” is located a sub-topic “Israel”. A “Travel” question is rarely asked. The forum is used by most of the participants to spew vitriolic hatred towards Jews and Arabs alike. It is sort of a war of words with pro-Israel on one side and pro-Palestinians on the other. Rarely is there a moderate to be heard from. I myself have been called a traitor (among other nasty things), because I dare to question the Israeli government’s inhumane policies towards the Palestinians and not follow the strict right wing party line (like most Americans). I was in an Israeli anti-terrorist police unit from the years 1999-2004, so I know what terrorism is and how to combat it. The indiscriminate bombing of Gazan civilians was certainly not the way. I find it quite ironic that I find a Palestinian to admire rather than anyone within the current government of a country that I truly love. I would appreciate it greatly if you could the time out of your busy schedule to respond to my letter of respect. Sincerely, Arieh Her response: Dear Arieh, Thank you very much again for your letter and sentiments, and my apologies for not answering sooner—to be honest I was overwhelmed with work and quite forgot to follow up! I also have very little time to engage in internet chats or fora, but as you rightly say many of them do not contribute to meaningful communication. The occupation is an abnormal situation and has generated quite a few crimes, particularly in that the more powerful side gives itself the right to control the lives, rights, and resources of the other. If there is to be peace, then the occupation must end and the Palestinians must be able to exercise their right to self determination on their own land. The solution is simple if we approach it from that perspective and accept the concept of neighborly relations on the basis of parity and mutual interest rather than domination and exclusive legitimacy. The war on Gaza and the tragic killing of civilians and the wanton destruction of resources, homes and institutions are not just war crimes but proof of the depths of depravity to which power systems can sink should they lose their human and moral compass. I still believe that there is a way out, but that requires courage and wisdom which are sadly lacking in extremist ideological leaders. Most importantly, one must never despair or abandon the pursuit of a just peace. Sincerely, Hanan (If you are not familiar with Dr. Ashrawi: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanan_AshrawiLady: You humble me.Machine: One of the members of the kibbutz took it upon himself to organize this project. I was a volunteer and am always up for an adventure. The whole truth and nothing but.Claymore: Two things if you please. 1. Do you really believe what you write? 2. Do you really talk like you write (in a patronizing, paranoid, racist, drawl)?JD: If you know me, you also know that I don't stroke egos. I wrote this letter to her out of sincerity only. Why don't you try it sometime.Delaila: One thing I don't do is lie. If it wasn't dangerous then why were the members of the kibbutz freaked out about the danger? I would have no reason to lie especially in a letter to someone that I respect? Think logically for a change.Nullify: Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but name me one person within the Israeli government that even comes close to her moral standards and wish for peace. more

Resolved Question: What do you think of this article?

Bombs and Bribes What if tomorrow morning you woke up to headlines that yet another Chinese drone bombing on US soil killed several dozen ranchers in a rural community while they were sleeping? That a drone aircraft had come across the Canadian border in the middle of the night and carried out the latest of many attacks? What if it was claimed that many of the victims harbored anti-Chinese sentiments, but most of the dead were innocent women and children? And what if the Chinese administration, in an effort to improve its public image in the US, had approved an aid package to send funds to help with American roads and schools and promote Chinese values here? Most Americans would not stand for it. Yet the above hypothetical events are similar to what our government is doing in Pakistan. Last week, Congress did approve an aid package for Pakistan for the stated purposes of improving our image and promoting democracy. I again made the point on the floor of the House that still no one seems to hear: What if this happened on US soil? What if innocent Americans were being killed in repeated drone attacks carried out by some foreign force who was trying to fix our problems for us? Would sending money help their image? If another nation committed this type of violence and destruction on our homeland, would we be at all interested in adopting their values? Sadly, one thing that has entirely escaped modern American foreign policy is empathy. Without much humility or regard for human life, our foreign policy has been reduced to alternately bribing and bombing other nations, all with the stated goal of “promoting democracy”. But if a country democratically elects a leader who is not sufficiently pro-American, our government will refuse to recognize them, will impose sanctions on them, and will possibly even support covert efforts to remove them. Democracy is obviously not what we are interested in. It is more likely that our government is interested in imposing its will on other governments. This policy of endless intervention in the affairs of others is very damaging to American liberty and security. If we were really interested in democracy, peace, prosperity and safety, we would pursue more free trade with other countries. Free and abundant trade is much more conducive to peace because it is generally bad business to kill your customers. When one’s livelihood is on the line, and the business agreements are mutually beneficial, it is in everyone’s best interests to maintain cooperative and friendly relations and not kill each other. But instead, to force other countries to bend to our will, we impose trade barriers and sanctions. If our government really wanted to promote freedom, Americans would be free to travel and trade with whoever they wished. And, if we would simply look at our own policies around the world through the eyes of others, we would understand how these actions make us more targeted and therefore less safe from terrorism. The only answer is get back to free trade with all and entangling alliances with none. It is our bombs and sanctions and condescending aid packages that isolate us.Tom, you truly are an idiot. Is that the best answer you can come up with? You see something you disagree with and you have to act like a child? Your a class act.Nice grammar Democrat. Resolved Question: Is THE 0bama responsible for the loss of Anti-Lifers?

Survey: Pro-life Views Gain Under Obama By Julia Duin Popular support for abortion rights has dropped seven points in the past year due in part to the election of a pro-choice Democratic president, the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life said Thursday. In the largest shift in sentiment since pollsters began asking about the topic in 1995, support dropped from 54 to 47 percent in one year. Opposition rose from 40 to 44 percent and the percentage of undecided rose from 6 to 9 percent. "It's pretty unusual," senior Pew researcher Greg Smith said of the change in public attitudes about abortion rights. "In 2007 and 2008, supporters of abortion clearly outnumbered opponents by a 14-point margin. Now the margin is 3 percent. Basically, they are evenly divided." Pew's findings square with a similar Gallup Values and Beliefs survey in May that showed more Americans consider themselves to be pro-life (51 percent) than pro-choice (42 percent). They also square with a Pew survey released in May showing an even larger drop of 8 percentage points - 54 to 46 percent since August 2008 - of abortion rights advocates. The biggest drops in support were among white mainline Protestants and men. Approval among both groups fell by 10 percent. Although opponents have yet to actually outnumber supporters of abortion rights, the balance of opinion has shifted dramatically across the culture and multiple religious groups ranging from Catholics to Jews, Mr. Smith said. And the idea of a "common ground" on abortion, a key tenet of the Obama administration, is apparently not resonating with either major political parties or the religiously affiliated and non-affiliated. The most disenchanted with the idea are white evangelical Protestants, whose support for a middle ground dropped 21 percentage points (from 61 percent to 40 percent) since 2006. The one exception is Roman Catholics, whose support for common ground rose 4 points, from 63 to 67 percent. Pew figures showed that a large number of liberals no longer consider abortion a key issue, whereas conservatives are increasingly more entrenched in their opposition to the nation's annual total of 1.2 million abortions. Fifteen percent of all liberals consider abortion an important issue today, compared with 28 percent in 2005, the survey said. The survey of 4,013 adults, conducted in August, is one of the first indicators of public sentiment on the Obama administration's first nine months. It has a margin of error of 2 percent. Pew researchers pinpointed the this past spring as the turning point of public perceptions of the issue. "There is no one answer that explains the shift," Mr. Smith said. "The election of a Democratic pro-choice president could be a contributing factor." Although survey results showed a drop in approval of legalized abortion, it also showcased a large swatch of the public that wishes the matter would be laid to rest. In a question about President Obama's handling of the issue, 42 percent said they didn't know his stance on abortion, "which is consistent with the decline of the importance of this issue for a lot of people," Mr. Smith said. Of the remainder, 29 percent said the president is handling the issue "about right," 19 percent worry he is supporting abortion too much, and 4 percent say he is not doing enough. Pew found that support for abortion rights has dropped among Catholics of all stripes, with the biggest decline - 10 points - among white Catholics who attend Mass weekly. All religious groups on the survey showed sizable drops in abortion rights support. Double-digit drops included Jews (10 percent), white mainline Protestants (10 percent) and white evangelicals who sporadically attend church (12 percent). Voting Question: Introduction to Islam Class - Homework Help?

For my Introduction to Islam class, we have to do a group project where we have to choose a topic and then write a term paper of six pages each and for my group, our topic is "Most common stereotypes about Muslims in America, especially after the tragic event of 9/11 and how to correct them" and for my part, I have to discuss what life was like for Muslims in America before 9/11 and then after and them compare and contrast them and I'm working on my paper right now but since my professor is very strict where he's expecting everyone to put a lot of effort into the paper and everything in their own words and since I have a learning disability, I'm really struggling a lot with that right now. On this page I've found on this link http://www.islamfortoday.com/seddon02.htm, I'm trying to summarize these paragraphs to include in my paper but I don't really understand it so I'm just wondering if someone can help me. Here are those paragraphs: September 11th 2001 On the fateful morning of September 11th 2000, in what at first appeared to be a ‘freak’ accident, an aircraft crashed into one of the Twin Towers of the Worlds Trade Centre in New York. Reality was far more shocking and horrifying than any disaster fiction Hollywood could produce. Minutes later another plane crashed into the other tower and almost simultaneously another slammed into the Pentagon in Washington, it was clear this was no accident. Within an hour and these two iconic symbols of global capitalism and he so-called ‘free world’ came crashing down like carded wool. Due to the design of these massive super structures there was no realistic means of evacuating the two and a half thousand people trapped in the multiple high-rise floors. But who could have perpetrated such an outrageous act of wanton destruction and murder? No one has ever claimed responsibility for these attacks but when it appeared that Arabs were involved in the attacks, the Americans made the connection with Osama Bin Laden. Surely, if anyone new Bin Laden’s capabilities it was the Americans after all, they trained him. A connection was made with the newly established ultra-orthodox religious regime in Afghanistan, the Taliban and Osama Bin Laden. After the US bombing of Sudan and Afghanistan, Bin Laden had returned to Afghanistan to hide out from his American enemies. However, no one was ruled–out and minority Muslim communities throughout Europe and America became the subjects of suspicion and mistrust. Anti-Muslim sentiment and fervour saw a number of attacks on Muslim individuals and Islamic institutions and places of worship. In America a Sikh was murdered by an angry mob that mistook his turban and long beard for an Osama Bin Laden ‘lookalike’ Muslim! Blair and Bush tried to calm things down by simultaneously declaring that the war on terror was not a ‘crusade’ against Islam. Muslims were not convinced especially when Bush had already used the terms ‘crusade’ and ‘Islamic terrorists’ on a least two very recent occasions. In the newly declared ‘war on terror’ specific anti-terrorist laws were rushed in, allowing arrest without trail, and thousands of innocent Muslim ‘suspects’ were arrested as ‘terrorists’. The spectre of Bin Laden’s ‘al Qaeda network’ began to produce apparent imminent terrorist attacks using chemical ‘weapons of mass destruction’. As America and Britain got more and more scared of this unknown, unseen and unquantifiable terrorist network, it seemed anyone could be a potential ‘shoe bomber’, underground gasser and kamikaze hijacker. more

Resolved Question: Is it a Joke or US Peace Plan?

Fighting words quash hopes for peace talks http://www.smh.com.au/world/fighting-words-quash-hopes-for-peace-talks-20090921-fyky.html JASON KOUTSOUKIS HERALD CORRESPONDENT September 22, 2009 JERUSALEM: Israeli pundits were last night predicting that today's summit meeting in New York between the US President, Barack Obama, the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, would be little more than a photo opportunity. Mr Netanyahu was scheduled to leave for New York late last night and will meet separately with Mr Obama today. A high-ranking US official, quoted by the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, warned against expectations of a breakthrough. ''The White House stated that the purpose of the meetings is to lay the groundwork for the resumption of talks between the sides.'' Israeli officials have reportedly said there is little hope the meeting would lead to a restart in formal peace talks with the Palestinians. The officials blamed Mr Abbas for the looming failure, citing his inability to compromise. ''Since the Government was formed about five months ago, Israel has been willing to meet with the Palestinian Authority and renew peace negotiations without preconditions,'' they said. ''Abbas is the one posing preconditions that never existed in the past.'' The Palestinians launched their own campaign of accusation, saying Israel had refused to accept a freeze on Jewish settlements in the West Bank. Mr Abbas's spokesman, Nabil Abu Rudeineh, said ''the negotiations should be held on a basis of two states, without any preconditions, and on the basis of a complete stop of construction in the settlements - including natural increase.'' Writing in the Israeli tabloid Yedioth Ahrnonoth, the columnist Nahum Barnea said the summit was not even ''half a meeting''. ''The event that will be held tomorrow in New York is a joke at the expense of an American president, who dabbled in Middle East politics and suffered the consequences.'' End of the article Because of the followings: This map “First Jewish colony in Palestine, 1878” (http://www.passia.org/palestine_facts/MAPS/first_zionist_colony.htm) shows a small number of the Jews were living in the Arab land without any trouble. This map “United Nations Partition Plan-UN Resolution 181, 1947 / Rhodes Armistice Line, 1949” (http://www.passia.org/palestine_facts/MAPS/1947-un-partition-plan-reso.html) was a solution to European anti-Jewish sentiments and action at the expense of Arabs. This offer “Projection of the West Bank Final Status Map presented by Israel, Camp David, July 2000” (http://www.passia.org/palestine_facts/MAPS/wbgs_campdavid.html) clearly shows that the Israelis offered nothing to the Palestinians. Remember, you won’t have a peace without justice. Now, for some reasons, these maps are not well published in the western media! That does not mean they are not true!! Similarly, above quotes can not be dismissed as untrue unless some one provides corroborative evidence. Now, Israel won’t stop building new settlements in the occupied Palestine because Israel does not want peace. Israel does not want to hand over the occupied land because it got the bigger guns. more

Resolved Question: WHat is the main mistake of the Muslim propagandists, or why is Islam losing simpathies?

They were sure that the Americans and Europeans are so stupid that if they constantly repeat to them that “Islam is the religion of peace”, and make the significant pause before adding that it was what “The Prophet Muhammad (pbhn) himself said”, the Americans and Europeans will take it for truth without checking and will never demand proofs. But … To the honor of the Americans, in spite of the massive pro-islamic propaganda organized by Muslims and "leftists", the Americans did not let fool themselves. The 9/11 was, of course a serious factor, but since then , almost 10 years later, the massive pro- Islamic propaganda coming from the heights of the governmental offices and from the screens of the most popuilar News Agencies , by logic, had to make Americans more favorable towards Islam. But no, quite the contrary happened. Shortly before President Obama departs for a trip to the Middle East, a new national poll suggests that only one in five Americans has a favorable view of Muslim countries. It means 20% That view compares with 46 percent of the people questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey who say they have an unfavorable opinion of Muslim countries. That's up 5 percentage points from 2002, when 41 percent indicated that they had an unfavorable view. So, almost 10 years after the 9/11, 5% MORE Americans think unfavorably of Islam. Meanwhile, three in 10 say they have a neutral opinion. It means 30% So, summing the results up: 46% of Americans think unfavorably of Islam and Muslims. 30% are neutral, and only 20% think favorably. iReport.com: Your perspectives on Muslim world http://jannah.org/madina/index.php?topic=3056.0 And in Europe? In Europe, in spite of the Arab propagandists ´efforts to assure us of the idyllic picture of harmony, the people dislike Islam even more than in the USA. 83% of Spaniards, 78% of Germans, 73% of Indians, 72% of Russians, 50% of French and 48% of Brits consider Muslims “fanatical”. 67% of Indians, 60% of Spaniards, 59% of Russians, 52% of Germans, 41% of Frenchs and 32% of Brits consider Muslims “violent”. http://pewglobal.org/reports/display.php?PageID=831 But here the misfortunes of Muslims do not end. An “overwhelming majority” of Europeans believe immigration from Islamic countries is a threat to their traditional way of life. The poll, carried out across 21 countries, found “widespread anti-immigration sentiment” .It reported “a severe deficit of trust is found between te Western and Muslim communities”, with most people wanting less interaction with the Muslim world. The study also reports “a growing fear among Europeans of a perceived Islamic threat to their cultural identities, driven in part by immigration from predominantly Muslim nations”. And it concludes: “An overwhelming majority of the surveyed populations in Europe believe greater interaction between Islam and the West IS A THREAT ”. Backbench Tory MP David Davies told the Sunday Express: “I am not surprised by these findings. People are fed up with multiculturalism and being told they have to give up their way of life”. http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/32867/Europeans-think-Islam-is-dangerous And this pitiful sight is what Muslims call “The Triumph of Islam”? more

Resolved Question: How will Liberals handle a black conservative woman?

I must now say that I can no longer identify myself as an African American because this classification holds several proclamations and principles to which I no longer identify with as a citizen of this country. This title holds anti-American sentiments to which I cannot embrace. I have never held to the viewpoints of those from the Black Power Movement, Nation of Islam, or the Black Nationalist Movement. I don't think about Africa, or what it would be like to live there, as I have always been content living in the country of my birth, where I grew up in a small town in Louisiana. The classification of myself as an African American says that although I live in America, my loyalty and allegiance are to Africa. My loyalty and my allegiance are first to Jesus Christ who is the Lord and Savior of my life. These same principles were those held by many of our Founding Fathers who held high regard for God's protection and leadership over this nation. These are the principles that are common to the foundation of Conservatism. As I think of my viewpoints politically, everything I believe about this country is wrapped up in my Conservative views. The tenets of the Declaration of Independence were set forth to bring equality and well being to all Americans. And those are the principles that I embrace as an American. It is my faith that drives everything that I believe and hold as dear. The Founders of this country envisioned a nation that would secure the God-given rights of its citizens. The desire that every citizen born in this country would not suffer the oppression they endured under England's rule, set as the backdrop for guaranteeing freedom for all Americans. The Founders especially desired that our nation would be one ruled and protected by our Creator God. Many beg to differ, but the Founders' insistence that God guide the ways of this nation is apparent in their acknowledgement of His hand in the creation of life, the rights of life, and the prosperity of life. It is these principles that make me proud to just be an American. So, I select for my identity the title of American. http://www.americanthinker.com/2009/09/why_i_am_no_longer_an_african.htmlboring to those unable to take in intelligent thought, people like liberals more

Resolved Question: Teacher/ politics problem- please help?

Greetings everyone, A few weeks ago I became a foreign exchange student. I am a Republican. Here, however, most people are thoroughly Democratic. We had a discussion in English class about Obama and about how much everyone loved him and how much change he was going to provide our country with and a ton of anti-Bush, pro-Obama sentiments were shared. When I asked my teacher about Obama's euthanasia plan, which I'm not even sure of its existence, she called my idea absolutely ridiculous and that I should be "ashamed of my anti-American sentiments." She proceeded to say that I was selfish for attempting to "feed the class my conspiracy and lies." Today for homework we had to read two pro-Obama articles for homework that talked about how the euthanasia was simply Republican propaganda. Now, she treats me very condescendingly. As it is an English class, she constantly remarks how improperly Americans speak. She said that I could say "It went good" but everyone else was to say "it went well." I actually had an A in English throughout high school and have never said "it went good" in my teenage life. Since I'm only sixteen, I have no clue how I am supposed to stand up for myself in the debate we're having about Obama tomorrow. Is there any guidance you can offer me? I really don't want to upset everyone but I would like to voice my opinions without be ostracized or looked down upon by my teacher. Thank you so much! ~~Anna PS And please, I just need some help, I don't need to be told how wrong I am for being Anti-Obama. Any information you can give me would be much appreciated (pro or con)! Thanks again!I'm a foreign exchange student in Belgium, by the way, through Rotary International Youth Exchange. more

Resolved Question: I am looking for a good book on the history of propaganda?

I want to find the best book on propaganda, what it is, examples of propaganda use throughout history, and why people are susceptible to it. For example, a great book would include how Hitler used propaganda to get the German people to buy into Nazism -- including turning in neighbors and accepting anti-jewish sentiments. While I have a keen interest in the case of Hitler and Germany, I would also be interested in other periods such as the beginning of the Bolshevik revolution or Mao and China. Even lessor known but well documented cases would be great, so long as the author and point to specific pieces of propaganda and discuss whether it worked and why or why not. What I DO NOT want are modern-day books on how Bush was using propaganda, or how Obama is currently using it, or how it may or may not be in use in American today. I'm looking for a book on propaganda and WHY it works -- not bunch of biased examples of recent propaganda based on partisan bickering. more

Resolved Question: why are australian jokes sarcastic lol?

A Scottsman, a Chinaman, a Pom and an Aussie were in the pub debating whose country was the best. The Scottsman reckoned his was the best, because we got the greenest grass. The Pom reckoned his was the best because they had the most beautiful flag. The Chinaman reckoned his was the best because of their Great Wall. The Aussie said we're the best, 'cos we got the kangaroo, and that can jump over your great wall, crap on your grass and wipe it's ass with your flag! An American decided to write a book about famous churches around the world. So he bought a plane ticket and took a trip to Orlando, thinking that he would start by working his way across the USA from South to North. On his first day he was inside a church taking photographs when he noticed golden telephone mounted on the wall with a sign that read "$10,000 per call". The American, being intrigued, asked priest who was strolling by what the telephone was used for. The priest replied that it was a direct line to heaven and that for $10,000 you could talk to God. The American thanked the priest and went along his way. Next stop was in Atlanta. There, at a very large cathedral, he saw the same golden telephone with the same sign under it. He wondered if this was the same kind of telephone he saw in Orlando and he asked a nearby nun what its purpose was.She told him that it was a direct line to heaven and that for $10,000 he could talk to God. O.K., thank you," said the American. He then travelled to Indianapolis, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Boston, and New York. In every church he saw the same golden telephone with the same "$10,000 per call" sign under it. The American, upon leaving Vermont decided to travel to AUSTRALIA to see if Australians had the same phone. He arrived in Australia, and again, in the first church he entered, there was the same golden telephone, but this time the sign under it read "40 cents per call." The American was surprised so he asked the priest about the sign. Father, I've travelled all over America and I've seen this same golden telephone in many churches. I'm told that it is a direct line to Heaven, but in the US the price was $10,000 per call. Why is it so cheap here?" The priest smiled and answered, "You're in Australia now, mate - it's a local call". This one was emailed around when Australia first became concerned about terrorist attacks, it was thought that this test would weed out Muslim terrorists who would not be able to control themselves. Though it was meant as a joke it probaly would have been more effective than the millions the government spent on anti-terrorist fridge magnets; As we all know, the Taliban considers it a sin for a man to see a naked woman who is not his wife. So, this Saturday at 2:00 PM Eastern time all Australian women are asked to walk out of their house completely naked to help weed out any neighbourhood terrorists. Circling your block for one hour is recommended for this anti-terrorist effort. All men are to position themselves in lawn chairs in front of their house to prove they are not Taliban, demonstrate that they think it's okay to see nude women other than their wife and to show support for all Australian women. And since the Taliban also does not approve of alcohol, a cold six-pack at your side is further proof of your anti-Taliban sentiment. The Australian Government appreciates your efforts to root out terrorists and applauds your participation in this anti-terrorist activity. God bless Australia! By the way, if you see anything suspicious, the terrorist hotline in Australia is 1800 - 123400 Wondering if you might be a terrorist yourself ? Do the Terrorist Test here; YOU MAY BE A TALIBAN IF..." 1. You refine heroin for a living, but you have a moral objection to beer. 2. Resolved Question: Is it anti-immigrant to demand that students only speak English in an American school?

A Catholic school in Wichita is being sued by four Hispanic families over a policy that requires students to speak English in school at all times. The Associated Press reports that the lawsuit filed against St. Anne’s Catholic School on Monday seeks to end the policy and to secure an order barring similar policies at other diocesan schools. The suit also seeks to allow the return of one student who was allegedly kicked out for refusing to sign the “English only” pledge. It asks for court costs and unspecified damages for discrimination and emotional suffering. Parents Mike and Clara Silva, Maria and Fermin Fernandez, Guadalupe Cruz-Tello and Alma Contreras filed the lawsuit on behalf of themselves and their minor children. The lawsuit names as defendants St. Anne Catholic School, Principal Margaret Nugent, St. Anne Catholic Parish, and the Catholic Diocese of Wichita. The diocese said the school instituted the policy in response to four students who were using Spanish to bully others and to put down teachers and administrators. The majority of the school’s 243 students are white, while 75 students are Hispanic, 27 are Asian, and two are black. According to court documents, the students named in the lawsuit are bilingual U.S. citizens with no disciplinary record. Lawyers for the students' parents claimed that bullying was not the initial reason the school enacted the policy, citing a letter the school sent home saying that students who are immersed in the English language improve their ability to improve and succeed. "One real problem that I think the plaintiffs have with the policy is not just that it's a bad policy, but that the justification keeps changing," said Christopher M. McHugh, an attorney for the families. "When one doesn't work, you move on to the next reason." "I think if one school is granted their wish by not allowing their students to speak another language, then other schools will follow suit," said parent Mike Silva, according to the Associated Press. Diocese of Wichita spokesman Fred Solis told the AP that the lawsuit was unfortunate because the church has historically offered services to minorities and has supported immigrant rights. The diocese’s attorney Jay Fowler suggested in a letter to the families’ lawyer that the lawsuit would divide the community. "The politicization of what basically is a disagreement between a parent and a school will most likely morph into an anti-immigrant sentiment, thereby undermining the effects of both our clients," he wrote. The lawsuit claims that because the school receives federal money for its free and reduced-price lunch program, it is subject to federal anti-discrimination laws. The school district argues that the students, not the school, receive the federal funding. http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/new.php?n=12708 more
