Now there is no doubt about the thousands upon thousands of psychiatric survivors coming out and speaking about their abuse and maltreatment, and organizations around the globe working towards humane treatment and human rights legislation in the psychiatric industry. There have been millions of people hurt by this institution. People who believe that alternative therapies should be an option for those who do not want to be forcibly shocked, or drugged without consent. People who believe that there are better ways than medication or electro-convulsive therapy. People who believe that their problem can be healed and overcome. And then there are others who praise psychiatry as saving their life, helping them live more normal lives, and generally improving the quality of life. They think of their medication as a life saver which they could not or would not be able to function normally without. They see their psychiatrist as a friend and someone who has the qualifications to keep their symptoms under control. (As there is no cure with psychiatry) just maintenance and control of symptoms. Resolved Question: How do i go about opening my own drug rehab center/halfway house?

as in, degrees needed, qualifications, registration, etc. I remember a few years ago there was a house a few blocks down from me (we live in a suburban community) that would keep troubled teens and adults that have abused drugs. like 10 people living in a 2 bedroom house. If i were to buy or rent a larger house, could i do the same? Of course it would be non-profit, but could i have government/state assistance? Should i team pu with an anti-drug organization for support? And if i am able to do this, how would i get people to stay there? I'm only 16 right now so i dont know how all the legal and financial issues would work out. All i know is that im supposed to somehow make a difference in the world of drug addictions, even if its only a small difference. Please help? Obviously, smoking pot, snorting coke, or otherwise using drugs is bad. However, using many prescription drugs is equally bad, but somehow socially acceptable. The War on Drugs is not really a war on all drugs, but rather just a war on specific drugs that the drug-dealing corporations cannot make a profit on. Of course, people who go to see a "psychiatrist" (a pretend-doctor) and get put on a "medication" (a dangerous addictive drug) for some imaginary "disorder" that the psychiatric organization made up by majority vote (such as ADHD) are not "drug addicts" and it is an awful thing if they break free of their addiction. However, people who choose to smoke pot (which is certainly safer than using Ritalin) are demonized and, if they are of the "wrong" class, tossed into a jail cell. Why don't the drug warriors realize that until they will never convince anybody of the evils of illegal drugs until they deal with the legal drug-dealers and their prescription drugs? When a school tells kids to "just say no" to drugs, but puts that kid on Ritalin whenever he behaves like a normal child instead of an obedient automaton, the hypocrisy is obvious. So many people go around the country representing anti-drug organizations, and they share their experiences with audiences, most notably high school students. Many, if not all of these people openly admit to using or selling illegal drugs, such as marijuana, heroine, cocaine... etc. Some even openly admit to being around terrible acts of violence, etcetera. Resolved Question: I'm pushing my body and mind to far feeling like I have no choice. Do I have other options I just don't see?

I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder 3 1/2 years ago when I was 17 (I'll be 21 in April) and over that time I've had my meds switched every which way possible. My mornings consist of taking a once daily lactaid, a Centrum multivitamin, claririn d 24 hr, nasacort aq, 100mg of topamax, and 5 mg of lexapro. At night I take 10 mg of zyprexa and another 100mg of topamax. I'm also now on an anti inflammatory twice a day from an accident about a week ago and Narco and Vicodin for pain. I looked at my prescription history for this year alone, and I've taken 10 different medications and a total of over 1700 pills. NOT including pain killers and Advil here and there. I never get more than 3 hours of sleep a night and feel like I'm pushing my body to the edge. I've got a torn rotater cuff and a shredded ACL. I'm ridiculously sick of drugs so I was wondering, are there ANY other options? I see a therapist 2-3 times a month but its not enough like the talking is but the result isn't. I work and am responsible for kids and my coworker doesn't do her job so I have to be there. I'm the president of this small local organization that helps out the community and I can't quit it because I'd let to many people down. I need to sleep and stop taking pills but I try to sleep it just doesn't happen and pills well I took myself off them before got my migraines back which i'm getting again anyway. (not as bad as before) I have about $200 I can spend each month on me the rest goes to insurance, car, motorcycle and mostly health, almost $400 a month for health insurance a month and I only make $650ish a month. With that money left I've got car repairs I have to have done. I feel like I have no options but to keep doing what I've been doing and basically die eventually from over doing it. Oh and I basically have to live two lives to have any kind of freedom, I can't tell my parents where I'm going since I still live with them otherwise things at home would get even MORE complicated than they already are. so please try to help me come up with another solution other than drugs i'm sick of pills every day they're not helping. more

Resolved Question: Rensselaer, Carnegie Mellon, Cornell--How well would I fare in admissions?

Okay, well according to guidance, my weighted average is 98.35 as of the end of my junior year (I have no idea what the GPA is; the school tells me they can't help me with that). I'm sure my average will be going up again (It was 96 at the end of 10th), especially since I'm taking classes I can manage. Including this year, I've taken 4 AP classes. I'd have taken more, but only 5 AP classes are available at the school. AP Lit and AP English are alternated, and APUSH and AP Human Geo are alternated. The 5th, AP Bio, is offered every year, but I could never take it, because my school is small--so last year, the only physics class was the same period as AP Bio, and this year, chemistry conflicted. I need both physics and chemistry for my intended major, architecture, so I had little choice. So I'm hoping I wouldn't get penalized; I've been in every possible honors and AP class. I have well over 120 community service hours because of a community service organization I'm in. I'm in Peer Leadership, an anti-smoking/drinking/drug group, I did 3 sports for 9th and 10th grade, I'm on NHS and NAHS, and I'll have Prom Committee for 11th and 12th grade. I tutor a now-6th grade boy in math twice a week during the school year, as of april. I've done four weeks of a math/science/engineering variety program for women at Rutgers (DSI). I spent a week at an Architecture program at NJIT, where we worked with SketchUp. I did a 6-week summer college program at Cornell U for architecture. My first SAT scores? 660 math, 590 Crit Read., 640 writing. I REALLY messed up in crit reading, I know that--and I'm taking the SATs twice more. My SAT subject tests? Physics, Math 2, and US History--all 590s. Soo.. yeah, that's all. These are ultimately my favorite colleges: Carnegie Mellon, Cornell U, Rensselaer Polytech, Rhode Island School of Design, and MIT. What are my chances at any or each of them, by applying for their schools of architecture? more

There is no wisdom, spirit & power in this philosophy. The mission could not give a brighter vision in beholding the light of day for a possible better & freer life in accordance with UN’s charter. In an attempt, the author Winston Kayanan from the Philippines (claiming to possess the right answer in global warming & climate change) gave the most powerful argument ever voiced out & directed against a world organization, about his antithesis against carbon emission reduction last of which, was in May 2009 in the internet via yahoo’s question & answer. Contrary to world’s concern on economy, his attack was rather on undiscovered & undetected UN’s basis in science that gave carbon emission reduction as its mission. In spite of the author’s move in providing leads & clues as well as answers, he gave ample time of 3 months (from June to end of August 2009) for the scientific community to give second thought on one of the author’s objectives, i.e., O2 regeneration vs. UN’s carbon emission reduction but nothing seemed to be perceived when most could not picture or understand much as to how we can entirely meet sensibly & intelligibly to solve problems. Up to this time, there is no good news on science breakthroughs, particularly coming from them (the rest of the scientific community). It is surprising to find that the scientific community had not conceived anything deeper. They missed the whole point because scientific studies should be analyzed & concluded in the beginning and then finally resolved in the same way, i.e., scientific than jumping into economic theory in the end. Like for instance, decay microorganisms vs. transportation & industries (regarding the issue on emission increment of greenhouse gases); laser-effect of solar radiation vs. arson (re: wildfires) or vs. mutation (re: drug dependence); biomass as organic matter vs. biomass as alternative energy (re: soil infertility); soil rehabilitation vs. plant forest (re: desertification); declining agriculture vs. sanitary landfill (re: land deterioration); carbon retrieval vs. carbon trading (re: lop-sided greenhouse gases); rice lands as source of methane vs. food production (re: food shortage or famine), among others. Some showed criticisms just for the sake of opposing & rebutting when these were merely contempt for knowledge & wisdom and hence, world’s brains are not working. They also thought the author was some kind of disturbed person, dubbed as an alarmist, while others thought the questions & answers were some kind of entertainment. These passive notions do not serve world’s slogan “save man & save earth” and thus, the mission to purge the environment is unknowingly perverted and people are eventually deserted. In a matter of life & death situation, where is the humanity here? Future generations may either judge the scientific community of treachery (in concealing the real science) or negligence (in not rendering the true science) – unfortunately at the expense of people and earth. Resolved Question: I find many of the beliefs of the Church of Satan to be contradictory, do you?

I am a Roman Catholic Christian; and just recently, out of pure curiosity, I visited the official website of the Church of Satan. I am not one of these Christians that believes what they are told to believe; I am inqusitive in the greatest sense of the word. I like to inquire about my beliefs;and after studying every possible point of view, I make an informed decision. Basically, what I am trying to get at is that I will not just believe what I am told. Anyways, when I visited the official website of the Church of Satan today I read virtually the whole website and several of the beliefs of the Satanists come off as contradictory at best. First, the Church of Satan claims that they represent all of the sordid actions that Christianity claims as "sinful" ( 8. Satan represents all of the so-called sins, as they all lead to physical, mental, or emotional gratification!); yet, they have a list of "The Nine Satanic Sins." Therefore, in one of their creeds they denounce certain actions as "sinful" yet they also state in another creed that their god (satan) represents all that is sinful. Therefore, the entity that they worship, who contradicts all that is good, would ultimately contradict one of their most fundamental creeds. The two clearly contradict one another. (I read "The Nine Satanic Sins," and most of them seem to be actions that Christianity condems as well which is again another contradiction.) Second, in the previously mentioned list of "The Nine Satanic Sins," one of thei sins listed is: Herd Conformity. This is yet another contradiction. The "sin" suggests that the Church of Satan is anti-establishment, but they have regular meetings and bishops of their church and a leader of their church. Also, one of their main goals is to grow like any organization, but the more that they grow and the more people that follow the church of satan the more they contradict one of their base creeds: Herd Conformity. They also suggest a list of "requirements" to be a follower of the Church of Satan which in itself contradicts their own creed which states that one should not follow the rules of society. Third, in the "Nine Satanic Statements" the first statement says: "1. Satan represents indulgence instead of abstinence!" This contradicts one of their own leader's statements regarding drug use. In this statement, LaVey condems the indulgence in illegal narcotics. Seeing as he wrote "The Nine Satanic Statements," he clearly contradicts himself. I have thoroughly studied through this so called "religion," and there seem to be many more contradictions than there are truths buried in it. Of course, every religion has contradictions at some point (that is where believing comes in), but none of the lasting religions have had contradicitions among their fundamental creeds like The Church of Satan seems toave. After lots of thought and lots of study, I have come to the conclusion that the Church of Satan is based upon nothing but the uneducated and over-imaginative views of a corrupted human being who wished to take the "easy way" out of hard situations and pleased himself by excusing his sordid behavior by telling the people he harmed itwas because of his so called "religion." LaVey condems Christians because he said that they excuse their actions upon something that simply is not real, but I condemn LaVey because he is a hypocritical loon that is doing the same thing that he preaches against. Outlawing a plant is ridiculous and persecuting users of that plant is even more ridiculous. Make your own decision on the matter based on facts and not government propaganda. The Partnership for a Drug Free America (that "non profit" organization that airs anti drug commercials on television) is funded by alcohol and tobacco companies who have a lot to gain from enforcing the idea of the dangers of non taxed illegal drug use versus government sanctioned recreational substances. Drugs are most dangerous when sold on the black market, which is why they should be legalized and regulated. The DEA's "War on Drugs" is a paramilitary operation that has waged war against the citizens of the country it supposedly protects. This is a highly irresponsible policy. And from my personal research into the subject it appears that the initial outlawing of plant was the personal agenda of a politician named Harry J. Anslinger, the first commissioner of the Treasury Department's Federal Bureau of Narcotics who produced slanderous misinformation propaganda against marijuana with such outright lies as, "Marijuana causes people to commit violent acts." To me and most everyone who have come in contact with it, the effects are quite the opposite. He also censored all films produced and imported into the United States having to do with drugs so that all public information on the subject was consistent with his lies. Do you want the government to lie to you, regardless of whether or not it is "in your best interest"? I for one think I am capable of making such decisions on my own and based upon facts, not falsities. Marijuana is the flower of the cannabis sativa plant, what people are literally doing when they smoke "weed" is they are smoking a flower that grows naturally on earth. It is a natural right for anyone born on this planet to have access to all that it provides. Cannabis is medicine for the soul. Okay I am 21 years old. From like 17-19 I abused drugs. I used to be addicted to painkillers and smoke pot. Stuff like that. Well I entered myself into rehab, And turned my life over to christ. I no longer use drugs, I no longer take part in a high risk life style. I have 1 count of petty theft, and then I have a theft under 100 dollars charge. I would steal to support my habit. I of course no longer do any of that stuff, and I have made a COMPLETE 180, But It seems like any future in Law Enforcement is just shot. I looked into the DEA and no future there, It seems the same for being a police officer. I have graduated highschool, went through some college, been part of many anti-drug organizations. Been part of my church. But the field of Narcotic enforcement and Law Enforcement seems exciting to me. Is there ANYTHING I can do with prior drug use... I used more than on weekends when i was 17-19. But I havent now for a while. And I have been on the right way, and also I have 2 misdemeanors. They arent high risk misdemeanors. I have received TWIC clearance, for the petrochemical plants. They do a pretty deep background... But anyways is there ANY job what-so-ever I can do in Law Enforcement, even if its not patrolling? Here's the theory: The US is the most religious and yet most violent country in the industrialized world. That's a fact BUT... Comprehensive drug reform world seriously reduce violence. Most violence is either drug(deal) related or domestic abuse. If people could buy pot they would try harder to stay out of jail. Some religious fanatics are attempting to block modern drug reform because if people are smoking it their interest in religion would statistically decline. No, I am not pro-spanking. I have never spanked ANY of my children, and to the best of my knowledge they have never been spanked by anybody else for any reason. My eldest son is a successful attorney. My daughter is in Honors at her university, as well as being heavily involved with two organizations which work to curb drug use on college campuses, and my youngest son has won awards for his involvement in Debate Club at school. I take issue with people on both sides of the debate, especially on here, because everybody on both sides seems to think that their side is the only side. I disagree with that. To the pro-spanking folks - I acknowledge that spanking probably isn't going to turn kids into Charles Manson. But neither is not spanking them. I have proof of that. You demand that the other side to mind their own business when it comes to you spanking your kid, but you don't mind your own business about their decision not to spank, and blame everything from crime to school violence on non-spanking - I even heard a guy blame 9/11 on a lack of spanking. It's about as logical as saying that vegetarians cause global warming because their farts are more potent. Especially when more than half of parents still believe in spanking, and most of the people in prison are there because of mental issues that have nothing to do with whether corporal punishment. To the anti-spanking folks - You mean well, I get it. But even though I don't spank, never have, and never will, I'm concerned when I see some over-caffeinated person harass a person for spanking their kid in a store. Unless they are doing something that is considered abusive by legal definitions, or causing immediate physical or mortal danger, I find it is best not to interfere. (While I don't believe in spanking, I don't believe in most cases it will kill a kid, unless they're hemophiliac or something.). You try to pass laws in states like California and Massachusetts that I fear would create a "Prohibition effect" where people not only continue to spank, but become more secretive, cautious, and take steps to ensure they won't be turned in for it, even resorting to tactics that are legally abusive now such as threatening to harm children worse if they turn them in, or actually going out and harming the people who enforce the laws. Anyway, I guess what I'm asking is why can't EVERYBODY come together, come to some sort of compromise on what they are willing to accept as being legal or not legal, get a clearer definition in our child abuse laws so that we don't have cops barging in on people of lower incomes for less abusive and non-abusive things (because they can't afford good attorneys), while people in higher income brackets get away with things that are actually illegal. While the violence entails battles between drug traffickers and Mexican military and police forces, it also involves turf fights among the various drug-trafficking organizations as they seek to control access to the lucrative U.S. market. More than 5,300 people died in the fighting in 2008. With 18 people found shot dead in the northern Mexican state of Chihuahua, and another four in a neighboring state – on the property of the state-run oil company Pemex – in just one two-day period (Jan. 26-27), 2009 is off to an ugly start. The carnage is now so bad that the U.S. State Department has issued travel alerts for Americans going to Mexico. One such alert warned that the battles in portions of northern Mexico are “the equivalent of military small-unit combat and have included the use of machine guns and fragmentation grenades.” U.S. tourism to cities on Mexico's border with the United States, where the bloodshed has been the worst, has dropped sharply. Even the Marines at Camp Pendleton near San Diego are banned from spending leave time in Tijuana – because it is too dangerous. And Mexico's violence is spilling across the border into communities in the southwestern United States. Indeed, Mexican drug gangs now operate in numerous cities throughout the United States. Cartel enforcers have published lists of Americans, including police officers, who are targeted for assassination. U.S. officials, alarmed at the growing power of the Mexican drug cartels, continue to pressure the government of Felipe Calderón to wage a vigorous anti-drug campaign. Calderón has responded by giving the army the lead role in efforts to eliminate the drug traffickers instead of relying on federal and local police forces, which have been thoroughly corrupted by drug money. In return, Washington is rewarding his government with the so-called Merida Initiative, a multibillion-dollar measure to aid the anti-trafficking campaign. Despite occasional optimistic pronouncements coming out of both Washington and Mexico City, it is increasingly apparent that the drug gangs are winning the war. Los Zetas, the enforcement arm of the powerful and especially ruthless Gulf Cartel, openly sought recruits to their ranks, posting help-wanted signs and hanging a large banner across a major thoroughfare in Nuevo Laredo last spring. The banner read: “The Zetas want you, soldier or ex-soldier. We offer a good salary, food and benefits for your family.” Traffickers have thoroughly penetrated Mexico's government institutions – even the agencies that are supposed to be dedicated to battling the cartels. In recent weeks, prosecutors charged top officials in the Attorney General's Office with being informers for the drug organizations. They allegedly received payments of $150,000 to $450,000 per month for information regarding surveillance targets and potential raids. Those sums are more than even high-level law enforcement personnel can make in several years – and lower-level personnel can make in several decades. With such resources at their disposal, and with the U.S. and global demand for illegal drugs remaining robust, it is no wonder that the cartels are doing well. Given Mexico's increasingly precarious economic situation, the cartels' power is likely to grow. Mexico is suffering badly from the economic recession. For the first time ever, financial remittances sent home from Mexicans working in the United States declined in 2008. As the already meager job prospects in Mexico shrink further, the drug cartels will be one group of employers willing and able to pay for new hires. President Obama ought to put the drug violence in Mexico at the top of his list of national security priorities. While it is premature to describe Mexico as a full-blown failed state, as some experts have done, the situation is alarming. The campaign against drug trafficking in Mexico is the latest failed front in the international war on drugs. The brutal truth is that the illegality of the drug trade creates a multibillion-dollar black-market premium that attracts the greediest, most violence-prone elements. Neither the Merida Initiative nor any other program will change that fundamental economic reality. President Obama needs to order a comprehensive reassessment of America's drug strategy before the security environment along our southern border gets even worse. A variation on this method is to place a burning tire around the neck of an individual, burning the victim alive. The remains are dumped on roadsides as a message to others who would consider crossing the cartels. The ruthless methods employed by these cartels to torture and kill their competitors are no different than the techniques used by Al Qa'ida and other terrorist organizations.
