Open Question: How do I get rid of ringworm in a cat and dogs?

have one cat and two dogs who are all infected with ringworm. I have taken them all to the vet, done the oral medicine and the miconazole spray I was given to treat them. After a month and a half with no luck, i am now cleaning the area with rubbing alcohol and treating with over the counter human anti fungal cream. It is working better than what the vet prescribed, but I need something to work better and faster. (about 3 months between the vet and my own method) Has anyone tried the apple cider? I have read that nail polish works well with human, anyone know how it works on animals? Please help. I love my animals and this situation really sucks. more

Open Question: My poor daughter. What is this rash?

Here's a long story short: She's 8. She developed a small red patch on her chin in Dec. (small red bumps clustered into a circle the size of a quarter). I thought it was ringworm and used a steroid cream on it and it went away. In Feb, she spiked a fever and it broke out again. I used the cream again and it would start to fade, but as soon as we stopped it, it would come back. It spread to the forehead, chest and tip of her nose. I took her into the Dr. a few weeks ago and found out that the cream I had been using is not for the face! Her chest was almost healed when I took her in and they had us put an Athlete's Cream on it. It burned and made it look so raw. We stopped using it and then they prescribed an antibiotic cream (MetroGel). This was supposed to be soothing, but it burned too and caused it to get even worse. A red, bumpy rash broke out over the area we were using the MetroGel. Stopped that and Dr. wanted us to go a week with nothing but vaseline to see if the skin would heal. It didn't. Now we're doing an oral anti-biotic, the Athlete's Foot cream and a Benadryl cream on top of that. I will say that the bumpy (red dot) rash is almost gone, but she still has the red skin and it's crusty in some areas of her eyebrows and corners of her mouth. It's so red and raw. She looks like she's been burned. I really don't think this is a fungal (ringworm) thing. I'm ready for a referral to a Dermatologist. I feel like my Dr. just keeps guessing. Help!! Open Question: Crease of my nose split?!?

Sometimes the crease in people's toes split, sometimes where their earlobes are attached splits, Well the crease of my nose (on the side) has split!! Possibly due to fungus or something?! That area has been peeling for months now and I can't stop it and finally it just split! So no I have a giant cut in the side of my nose. The only thing I can think of is to get some anti-fungal spray/creme that you'd use on like ATHLETES FOOT. this is so strange to be happening on my FACE?! any advice? more

Umm ok so about 2 weeks ago i ran out of birth control that i only had for one month. as soon as i quit taking the birth control i had light spotting and clumpy white/reddish(from the spotting) cottage cheese type discharge with no foul smell. a week went by my boyfriend and i are quite active, after an intense day of sex it followed by 2 days of having oral sex in which my vagina was getting sore more easily. my vagina became veryyyyy itchy and i still had sex with him and it hurt very bad. that night i thought i had a severe yeast infection so i did the one timme tioconazole for anti fungal. the next day i noticed a small tear that burned and a small bump and my opening was very swollen and it hurt to pee. the day after that i noticed a few blisters on the opening. for a total of 5 days these blisters appeared and now they are almost completely gone and my vagina doesnt hurt anymore and still has a little itch. what is it???sam just because my boyfriend never had an outbreak doesnt mean that i dont have herpes i could have been infected years ago for all i know. please i want responses from people who know what theyre talking about i know i should go to a doctor just havent had time with work i am going tomorrow just trying to get an idea of what i have more

So there was ringworm on my shoulder that I didn't realize for about a week or so, and even then I thought it was an infected bug bite or something. So then like a week after that I went to a doctor for a checkup and she said it was ringworm. I have been putting stuff on it but now it's spreading (I think?) all over my stomach and neck!! Is there anything else I should do besides put on the anti-fungal cream 2 times a day? more

Voting Question: Skin redness/itchiness/bumps....on my ring finger. Any ideas?

For about 5 months now the part of my ring finger just beneath the nail has been turning red. It has been slowly spreading and is now 1/3 of the way past my first knuckle from the nail. It slightly itches, has a slight amount of pain, and the skin is constantly flaking away. When it comes in contact with liquid (especially if it's hot) it starts burning really bad. Every now and again little red bumps appear on it. Sometimes the redness will almost completely fade away but never completely and never for long. Any ideas as to what it is? How can I get rid of it? I've tried an anti-fungal cream that I bought at the store but so far it's showing no results. more

Resolved Question: Should I try not to touch stuff when I apply anti-fungal and anti-itch creams?

I recently contracted ring-worms, with it all over my arms. I apply anti-fungal and anti-itch creams to it as prescribed, but I have a hard time doing everyday stuff with it applied. I was wondering if I bought a treatment to make my nails grow if it will work. ok.. two days back , i noticed a little blood clot on my budgie's *** ( **** area).. immediately took her to the vet.. he gave her an anti biotic with and vitamin syrup.. tried feeding this syrup to my budgie, but she puked.. yesterday i took her to another vet. the doc thoroughly checked her, n said, that its a fungal infection, n gave her 2 injections under her wings... and also cleaned her wound..and gave me an antibiotic.. he also told me to apply beta dine (antiseptic cream ) over the wound ... i applied the cream in the evening, n in the night.. n then the whole night she was kind of crying.. and was very itchy all over her body, specially over her wound.. since then she's been acting very hyper.. goes to eat her food , then goes to water, then back to food, .. n then to kiss her lover, n then back to food..so on.. and so forth ..She's been doing this since last night.. though there's no bleeding now. also the inflammation has decreased.. but she's still acting very hyper... M very tensed.. been trying my best.. called up doc, but he said its normal.. .. help me people. what should i do..?? i love her very much.. :'( more

Resolved Question: Recurring fungus takes fun out of fish keeping?

Okay, here's my problem. I have three goldfish in a ten gallon tank that I've had for about three years. I used to have five. Two were claimed by a mysterious infection that started about six months ago. Symptoms: fuzz that eats of tails of my comets and grows on the heads of my "common Goldfish." (It's only killed my comets) The two fish died at separate times. I can usually spot an treat an outbreak before it turns deadly with an anti-fungal/anti-bacterial tablet. The problem is, the outbreaks always come back, and they seem to be getting worse. My fear is that the infection will grow resistant to the medicine I've been using. I haven't had a proper cartridge in the filter for about three months because you have take the cartridge out to put in the medicine and the infection always comes back before I can get new ones. How can I get rid of this fungus once and for all? It's taken the fun out of fish keeping. Would it help to perform more frequent water changes? Can I add more than the recomended dose of medicine? more

GROSS! I went swimming in a lake about the same time last year and ended up getting a gross green toenail. I went to a podiatrist and he told me to put anti-fungal ointment on it every day and it would go away in about a year. Well, one year later and it's STILL here. Why??? I HATE it. Resolved Question: Fungus on my Beta is spreading...Help?

A couple days ago my beta fish, Sebastian, got a white fungus on his side. Well, I went to petsmart the next day and bought him some anti-fungal drops for his tank and I've been using them like the directions say and what not. The deepest white spot is still on his side, but Im noticing the light cotton-y film over his body. If I look at him I can tell there is stuff on him, but it doesnt seem attached like the thick white spot on his side. It's not as white either. It's more see-through than anything. If you look at him from two feet away, you wouldn't be able to tell, but if you get close you can see it floating around on him. I'm starting to really get upset. I just spent over 70$ on him this week for a new, bigger tank, a new plastic plant, and some more pebbles and new food and the Pimafix fungal stuff. I also got him a tank heater and a thermometer and have tried to keep his tank between 75 and 80. It stays 80 by itself on hotter days and 75-73 on cooler days. I'm beginning to run out of options, and most importantly money! Any other ideas I could do? The anti-fungal stuff works in a week, but it doesnt seem to be helping. I love my fish too much, even if he is just a little beta, to let him die like this. Any other options I have? Something that might not be too expensive? I really don't want him to go like this.... more

After spending a summer as a camp counselor, constantly in a damp swimsuit, recurrent yeast infections have been a problem. I've tried the anti-fungal stuff from the pharmacies but it only seems to provide temporary relief and just offset the balance worse in the long run. Plain yogurt and talc powder seem to have helped a LOT but I wondered what some other ways people deal with this problem are? more

I was on a mission trip in Jamaica for 8 days and got back 2 days ago, and my horse has bald spots on her butt and shoulders from where she has been rubbing. She has never been itchy like this before! I groomed her really well, thinking it might just be the sweat bothering her, but still itchy itchy itchy!!! Her feed hasn't been changed. The only big change was we got rid of one of our horses that she was close to. Do horses itch out of stress? But she has tiny bumps on her randomly, kind of like little gnat bites or something. Basically, I broke my nail, like, two weeks ago or whatever, and was promoting growth, and it was growing well, but I could see on the bottom that the nail wasn't attached to the bed, I was picking at it, because I thought maybe I could get it out, but a lot of nail has come away, and has revealed what looks~ like an infection, but everything I've read suggests going to the doctor, basically, I don't wanna go to my doctor, he thinks I'm a hypochondriac, when I'm not, so even though it probably IS a nail infection, he'd send me away and let it get worse. How can I help to clear this up at home, would a regime of anti-fungal cream and salt water soaks help any? Voting Question: Thrush causing breast feeding problems - 8 month old?

For the past four weeks breast feeding has been painful. I've had sore and cracked nipples and occasional bleeding. I attributed this to visitors we had which made baby distracted & come on and off the breast a lot. I've been using nipple cream. My daughter had a bad nappy rash which went away after anti fungal cream last week. Tonight I found white in my baby's mouth so I'm fairly certain she has thrush. I'm currently starting to wean her because of the extreme breast pain. My question is - do you think my breast pain is caused by the thrush? I don't have pain in the breast - just very sore and tender around breast and cracks, and occasional itchiness.I won't be able to see a doctor till monday - do I need to or can a chemist help?I live in Australia. so i found out i have a yeast infection from the anti-bacterial medication i have to take, so since i have not visited the doctor yet, we found out using jock itch lotion and taking an anti-fungal pill will most likely help it. well this morning i went to pull my foreskin back and it hurt so much i could not get it anywhere past the bottom of the head when i was semi- erect. so i waited to become flaccid and i felt again, the whole part under the foreskin(when pulled back) is a lot more sensitive and really smooth. i also tried urinating without pulling the skin back and i had a burning sensation near the top of the foreskin for about 5-10 minutes afterwords. i cannot figure out what is wrong, but i know its been sensitive and smooth for days now, i was feeling it 3 nights ago and pulled too hard and had a very small cut right below the head. for a few months the inside of my bellybutton was red, I thought nothing of it because it didn't hurt or anything. my mom got this cream to put in it, don't know what it was, but I used it. one day I also put alcohol on a cottonball and left it in there for a little. 2 days after our day at the waterpark, i noticed the area around my butt and vaginal area was irritated and red. As the days have progressed, it's gotten worse. I got a close up look with a mirror and it appears to be a rash, although a few of the bumps have a white head on it, kinda like pimples. It's not really in my vaginal area, just the skin between the vagina and butt and then all between my butt crack. I have lived in Thailand for years and have never had an itchy mosquito bite or have I ever had one in my life.I come from the rocky mountains where the mountain mosquito's are huge and are the most aggressive I have ever seen in the world.Even worse than the amazon.But something has happened in the last two years here.I have been waking up with little red,BB sized dots or smaller on my hands and feet.They don't itch and they don't hurt.I know what a normal mosquito looks like-they are as I have always seen-large,swollen normal skin colored ares that rise up at first that eventually shrink down to a M&M sized itchy red bump.That is not my case.Everyone here says that they are mosquito bites but I don't have them everyday.maybe once a week.My Thai friend said to me that it is actually some sort of bacteria or fungus so I bought antibiotic cream and pills and also bought anti fungal cream.I used all of it and one week later I woke up with bumps.Now,last night I know for sure I was being bitten by mosquito's because I could see them everywhere in my backyard.So,today I looked and the red bumps are back.Can a person just suddenly change and become susceptible to mosquito bites and if so why are mine completely different than everybody else's.Also are the mosquito's a different strain in Thailand and why for the first 4 years did I have no problem? more

Resolved Question: Isn't all this cycling a new tank for goldfish lil drastic?

I bought a 10 gallon tank filled it with spring water..waited a few days..got a goldfish.. it got ick and died. I now know that is from stress. I waited alil while longer got another goldfish it too got sick and died. This time I had put the good bacteria in the water and used a anti fungal med...seemed to make it worse. Now I'm reading I need to add ammonia have the tank fish less for 8 weeks, check nitrate levels..ect... How is it that this needs to be done, when you can have a fish in a fishbowl, change the water weekly and the fish has no problems? I also did the conditioner and all that stuff. So what do I do now? Is it really necessary to add ammonia and and everything? I don't want any more fish to die... so even if its a huge pain in the @** i'll have to do what is the best thing.. but it seems so sillyI contacted 2 differnt aquarium stores, and explained exatly in much more deatil, than I did on here, what I did and what happened. Both places agreed there is something in my tank ( that I did not put there, and is not my fault for it being there..seeing as i did as i was told in the manual when setting up the tank)that is causing this, that i need to empty and start all over agin..this sucks. more

Voting Question: Could this be Ringworm?

I have a small ringworm looking thing above my ear. It doesn't itch, or bother me at all. I was looking through my hair when i spotted a reddish brown mark next to my temple. I thought it might of been a birth mark. So i kept looking through my hair and saw the ring worm looking mark. I've been putting Anti-Fungal cream on it just in case. I did go paint-balling with a couple of friends last week and wore a rental Paintball mask. It could have gotten to me by that if it is ringworm. The mark next to my temple could be a birthmark or a mole. I was hoping the ring worm looking thing could possibly be a birthmark also. The mark is small, not irritable, doesn't itch, possibility of having it for awhile without noticing. more

Voting Question: multiple horse questions, all grouped together?

question 1.) so my mare saw the farrier last friday. and he fit her with new shoes and he said that she's got a mild case of thrush, but he cut a chip on the side of her hoof, i've never heard of someone doing this for thrush. is this common practice? i've heard of doing this with white line disease. i wasn't there my grandpa was because i was on vacation. the farrier recommended absorbine thrush and white line disease. one of the horses at my old barn had white line disease. and they had to cut the top outer layer of his hoof wall off. question 2.) my mare, who we've been trying to put weight on. she is eating one coffee can full of senior feed 2X daily(breakfast & dinner) and one coffee can full of Safe Choice 1X daily(lunch) and 2 flakes hay at each meal. i had her on an all around supplement(hoof, coat, joint and digestive) but she wasn't eating it so i took her off of it. its called Equipride have you heard of this? has these two wounds on top of her hip crests. on either side of her hips. what are these? they are probably the size of a dime. my instructor, who i trust alot washed them down with bedadine and put this "magic band-aid spray" on them. she had a nasty skin fungus back in april and may. we've got that pretty much beet. could this be a symptom of the fungus? my instructor said if they don't get better by the time the vet comes out next month she's gonna have the vet look at them. i'll post pics in a few min. of the fungus. the vet said that she just needed a bath with anti-bacterial/fungal shampoo. question 3.) so i just came home from vacation last sunday. i told my instructor that she could use my horse for lessons while i was gone, which i was cool with so that she could get some exercise while i was gone. but my grandpa went up there one day while i was gone, groomed her lunged her for half an hour( i think that is too long to be lunged)and i came back on monday to see her my grandpa took me and ive been around horses since i was 5 i know what to do around them. but he was telling me what to do like i was a beginner all over again. and i was going to lunge her in the outdoor arena cause she and i like being out side better that being inside. but my grandpa is like why do you wanna go out there its dusty you'll get her all dusty and dirty. so i went inside which was hotter and i told him that we were going out because i only worked her a few circuits at a trot and she was sweating a little bit so i took her out side, which she loves and he got all offended cause i did something he didn't approve of. i also know how to take care of thrush. i horse sat for one of my friends when she went on vacation last summer and her horse had thrush in all feet so i had to take care of that for a while. also my house is not that far from the barn maybe like 10-15 minutes and he just stays there with me. the other girls they live like 20-25 minutes away from the barn and their mom just drops them off and leaves and its kinda hard to fit in with my grandpa hanging over my shoulders all the time, and when i want to stay and hang out for a little bit and help with lessons he's like c'mon you've got stuff to do at home or come out here let the other girls help with that. i don't mind helping i like to. but he also pays half of my board so its not like i can tell him to go away or anything like that. i just want some space i've told my mom about this and she said that she would try and talk to him about this she did and it didn't help it just made him more inclined to stay around. also at the barn we use bulk shavings and my grandpa got me so bagged shavings for shows. so he insists on using the bagged shavings at home. i keep telling him that my horse is fine with the bulk shavings and that we need to shave the bagged ones for shows and traveling. how do i tell him that i just need some space to fit in around the barn. question 4. i'm pretty new at my new barn i just started there in march, with my new horse all the other girls have been there for years. i guess i just feel left out of the jokes and stories and they all ride different disciplines than i do i ride saddle seat and they ride hunt seat and dressage. i looked for a saddle seat barn to board at but the ones i found were only training and not boarding... they had horrendous training prices too. plus this is my first horse, some of the other girls have only had one horse but have had this same horse for a few years now. and some have had more than one horse because thier old horse had to be put down. so its kinda akward. its like starting a new school. but on the subjet of school they all go to a differnt school than me. please help! no nasty answers please!here is the infection that was on her withers: http://s806.photobucket.com/albums/yy341/horse_luver2327/?action=view&current=skininfection2.jpg#!oZZ1QQcurrentZZhttp%3A%2F%2Fs806.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fyy341%2Fhorse_luver2327%2F%3Faction%3Dview%26current%3Dskininfection3.jpg%26 here is the one that was on her hips:http://s806.photobucket.com/albums/yy341/horse_luver2327/?action=view&current=skininfection2.jpg#!oZZ2QQcurrentZZhttp%3A%2F%2Fs806.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fyy341%2Fhorse_luver2327%2F%3Faction%3Dview%26current%3Dskininfection2.jpg%26 more

Resolved Question: Questions about safety when making alcohol and distilling alcohol.?

This is the first time i have made alcohol and i have two jugs of "must" currently fermenting. the first is a half gallon jug filled with water, 3 cups of sugar, and bakers yeast ( it is bubbling like crazy). the second jug has a cranberry grape cocktail juice with 2 cups of sugar, and bakers yeast. i boiled raisins in a little cranberry juice with 3 tablespoons of honey and put that in the second jug also as a nutrient. does the yeast produce any methanol or does it make just ethanol? any way when the "wine" is done fermenting and siphoned and i kill the yeast and any bacteria that got in by freezing it, is this safe to drink and how alcoholic will it be. also i know if you crush garlic into a paste it produce allicin which has anti-fungal/bacterial properties, if i wrap this in cheese cloth and strain the wine through it will it kill the yeast and other bacterial? Okay now when this is finished i was thinking about doing an experiment and distill a little of each "wine" in a tea pot still. will any methanol be in the finish product if i do this? i thought that the yeast only produced ethanol so i don't understand how methanol would be in the finished product. Please intelligent answers only, or if your gonna write something dumb at least make it funny. there are a lot of questions in there i would really appreciate it if some one could awnser all of them. more
