Anti Slavery Speeches Questions asked

Resolved Question: Can you believe what Obama is now doing Obama Hauls Arizona Before the UN Human Rights Council?

Apparently Barack Obama is not content to make a federal case out of his immigration feud with Arizona; he just made it an international one. The president’s first-ever report on U.S. human rights to the UN Human Rights Council contains a rich vein of offensive material. So far, one aspect has not been reported: our petty president used the situation to bash Arizona’s immigration law — and possibly transfer jurisdiction over the law from Arizona to the UN. Throughout the report, which sounds like an Obama campaign speech, the president discusses “the original flaw” of the U.S. Constitution, America’s tolerance for slavery, and his version of our long and despicable history of discriminating against and oppressing minorities, women, homosexuals, and the handicapped. After each complaint, he addresses how he is delivering us from ourselves, patting himself on the back for such initiatives as ending “torture,” promoting Affirmative Action, and passing health care legislation. In his section on “Values and Immigration,” he praised the Department of Homeland Security’s efforts to provide better medical care for detainees and increase “Alternatives To Detention” (e.g., letting them go). Then he turned to the one state that has had the temerity to stand in his way of fundamentally transforming the American electorate: A recent Arizona law, S.B. 1070, has generated significant attention and debate at home and around the world. The issue is being addressed in a court action that argues that the federal government has the authority to set and enforce immigration law. That action is ongoing; parts of the law are currently enjoined. On Obama’s command, Attorney General Eric Holder has sued the State of Arizona for passing a law that he criticized without reading, and which merely upholds federal law. (He gave sanctuary cities a pass.) He now threatens an additional lawsuit against Sheriff Joe Arpaio for “racial profiling” when arresting illegal immigrants near the Mexican border. Obama’s turns his skirmish with Jan Brewer from a states rights dispute into an international human rights cause. It also places Arizona’s law in the hands of the United Nations. The national report is but the first step of the international government’s review process. On November 5, the United States will be examined by a troika of UN bureaucrats from France, Japan, and Cameroon (an oppressive nation which is a member of the Organization of Islamic Conference). This trio will consider three items: Obama’s self-flagellating report, reports written about America by UN tribunals or international governing bodies, and testimony from NGOs with a pronounced anti-American bias. It will also consider “voluntary pledges and commitments made by the State,” such as suspending an Arizona state law. Then the French, Japanese, and Cameroon diplomats will draw up a plan of action for the United States to implement. Nations are re-examined every four years. The Human Rights Council looks for voluntary compliance. However, its website asserts, “The Human Rights Council will decide on the measures it would need to take in case of persistent non-cooperation by a State with the” World Body. When the Left cannot win at the ballot box (virtually every time), it overrules the people in the courts. Now that Obama is not sure he can prevail in the courts, he has overruled the American people by hauling Arizona and the two-thirds of Americans who support its law before the United Nations. http://www.impeachobamacampaign.com/obama-hauls-arizona-before-the-un-human-rights-council/ Obama has just done something that is totally unprecedented by an American President, and which should be condemned by every American. This President has attacked his own country. That is treason more

Resolved Question: Is your local Mosque "moderate"?

Is Your Local Mosque 'Moderate' or 'Radical'? (Please circulate) Ask the Imams of Mosques, the Muslim leaders, and the Islamic organizations in the US and worldwide to sign this declaration (See below) by Tawfik Hamid www.tawfikhamid.com After the problem of Ground Zero Mosque has escalated it becomes an urgent necessity to distinguish 'Moderate' from 'Radical' Islam. Without making such a distinction the US and the rest of the world will remain divided regarding this issue. Debates about the issue can be endless unless we define the words 'radical' and 'moderate'. Mosque leaders, Islamic scholars, and organizations who want to be considered Moderates MUST clearly and unambiguously declare the following declaration in their media outlets and on their websites. I suggest that you send this declaration to Mosque leaders and the Islamic organizations inside the US and worldwide to see if they are ready to accept such a declaration or not. Please feel free to circulate this newsletter so that we can start a process that allows us to distinguish radical from moderate Islam. Declaration of Beliefs of Muslim Moderates - I (We) are Muslims who want contemporary understandings of Islam to replace currently predominant harsh and radical (Salafi/Wahabbi) interpretations of our religion. We therefore declare that: 1- Redda Law, the Sharia Law that allows the killing of Muslims who convert to other faiths, must be banned in Islamic teachings and in Sharia legal doctrine. Islamic countries that practice Sharia must stop the practice of this law and must admit that Freedom of belief and the right to convert to other faith or believe is a basic right that must be given to all Muslims. 2- Current mainstream Sharia doctrines justify the use of violence against women. They encourage men to beat their wives to discipline them. They allow women accused of adultery to be stoned to death. These doctrines are barbarically inhumane, non-egalitarian, and teach Muslim children to be violent. These teachings must be ended by reinterpreting the Islamic text that justifies such violence. 3- Traditional Sharia doctrines teach Muslims that they must engage in war so that Islam will dominate the world. When Islam becomes dominant, Non-Muslims are offered three options: to convert to Islam, to pay Jizzia (a humiliating tax), or to be killed. These doctrines run contrary to modern respect for diversity and for personal freedom of speech and belief. This understanding of Jihad that seeks domination of Islam over other peoples must no longer be regarded as an Islamic value and its teaching as a duty for Muslims must end. The early Islamic wars known as "Futohaat Islameia" were fought to implement this doctrine of Jihad. These wars therefore should now be regarded as un-Islamic and un-justifiable. 4- Jews are individuals who deserve the same respect accorded to all individuals. They should not be called "pigs and monkeys." The Islamic teaching that Muslims must fight and kill all Jews before the end of days is totally incorrect and unacceptable as it does not exist in the Quran. All teachings that encourage anti-Semitic attitudes, violence or disrespect toward Jews must be declared un-Islamic. 5- Slavery is a crime against humanity. All Sharia laws that justify slavery in our modern times must not be taught any more. Muslim scholars must have a clear and loud voice against slavery. 6- Islamic Sharia laws currently permit the killing homosexuals. These laws also are advocating a crime against our fellow human beings. They must be declared un-Islamic and their implementation must be considered criminal. Signed, Dr. Tawfik Hamid . more

Resolved Question: second part of the essay?

Women played a strong role in the abolitionist movement. By the mid-1830s abolitionists debated on the role of women in ‘male’ activities, and though they considered women’s contribution important they did not leave an official delegate such as Elizabeth Cady Staton or Lucretia Coffin Mott speak at the world anti-slavery convention in London in 1840. There were many upper and middle class women supporting the Abolition movement such as the Grimké sisters (Sarah and Angelina) who used to have speeches in front of women audiences, but when they started to have speeches in front of mingled audiences they got several critics and where defined ‘unnatural’ because they “assumed the place and tones of a man as a public reformer”. (The era of Reform 612) Such statement made the women think about the `slavery of sex’ and Angelina Grinké observed in 1837 “The investigation of the rights of the slave has led me to a better understanding of my own”. Since then many women joined the new cause, and supported the issue of Women’s Rights. In July 1848 more than 300 women and men gathered in Seneca Falls, New York . There they read the Declaration of Sentiments and discussed about the condition of subordination of women and signed such Declaration in which they analyzed their condition and demanded the ‘elective franchise’. more

Resolved Question: What are some psychological reasons for why feminists hate housewives so much?

Anyone who posts here regularly is familiar with all the typical anti-housewife quotations that feminists have spewed. As Doodlebug put it in another question: “[Housewives] are dependent creatures who are still children…parasites.” ~ Gloria Steinem, “What It Would Be Like If Women Win,” Time, August 31, 1970. “A parasite sucking out the living strength of another organism…the [housewife's] labor does not even tend toward the creation of anything durable…. [W]oman’s work within the home [is] not directly useful to society, produces nothing. [The housewife] is subordinate, secondary, parasitic. It is for their common welfare that the situation must be altered by prohibiting marriage as a ‘career’ for woman.” ~ Simone de Beauvoir, The Second Sex, 1949. “[The] housewife is a nobody, and [housework] is a dead-end job. It may actually have a deteriorating effect on her mind…rendering her incapable of prolonged concentration on any single task. [She] comes to seem dumb as well as dull. [B]eing a housewife makes women sick.” ~ Sociologist Jessie Bernard in The Future of Marriage, 1982. "The chief thing is to get women to take part in socially productive labor, to liberate them from ‘domestic slavery,’ to free them from their stupefying and humiliating subjugation to the eternal drudgery of the kitchen and the nursery. This struggle will be a long one, and it demands a radical reconstruction, both of social technique and of morale. But it will end in the complete triumph of Communism.” ~ V.I. Lenin, International Working Women’s Day Speech , 1920. “Women owe Frieden an incalculable debt for The Feminine Mystique…. Domesticity was not a satisfactory story of an intelligent woman’s life.” ~ Elizabeth Fox-Genovese, Feminism Is Not the Story of My Life, 1996. “Being a housewife is an illegitimate profession… The choice to serve and be protected and plan towards being a family-maker is a choice that shouldn’t be. The heart of radical feminism is to change that.” ~ Vivian Gornick, University of Illinois, “The Daily Illini,” April 25, 1981. “[As long as the woman] is the primary caretaker of childhood, she is prevented from being a free human being.” ~ Kate Millett, Sexual Politics, 1969. I mean if a person doesn't feel being a housewife is for them, that's one thing. But what could cause someone to feel such contempt for women who are guilty of nothing more than choosing her family over her career? Are feminists jealous that housewives have families to care for while they do not, or is it something else?Oops, Know It All was the one who posted those quotes on another question, not Doodlebug. Sorry about that, I get you two confused because you're both outspoken opponents of feminism who don't have avatars and both used to have the TC badge, before Doodlebug's account got suspended. more

Voting Question: 5th grade emancipation proclomation pls help URGENT 10 POINTS?

OK, so this is PART of my summary i need you guys to see if its good & tell me if its right or wrong and whatever; African slaves were first brought to America in 1619 and were sold to most southerners. The 5 words, “All men are created equally” did not count for these poor human beings. They were sold at auction as if they were cattles. Having no control over their lives, working without pay, and being treated like animals was normal for them. There was no justice for Africans slaves. But although they hoped and prayed for freedom, little did they know, their prairse would soon be answered. 1826, Abraham Lincoln born on the 12th of February of 1809 near hodgensville, Kentucky to a family of poor pioneers traveled on a flatboat to new Orleans, Louisiana. The boat he was on was carrying merchandise and farm products to markets.. 19 year old Lincoln was now about to get a much closer look at how slavery worked. Slaves all chained up, were being harshly whipped by white southern men. Women, men, and children were kidnapped from the comfort of their homes, to be forced to work as if they were animals. Lincoln was beginning to deeply despise slavery. But Lincoln wasn’t the only one who went strongly against it. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Mostly in the north, there were many abolitionist who wanted to put an end to slavery. Such as William Lloyd Garrison, an abolitionist who published an antislavery newspaper called “THE LIBERATOR”. Garrison was also part of the American anti-slavery society. Members would give speeches and write newspapers and magazines calling an end to slavery. more

Resolved Question: Was Thomas Jefferson pro- or anti-slavery?

I've been trying to find out but I've seen a lot of conflicting information. I know that once I read a speech of his in which he was speaking of his opinion that blacks are inferior (I don't have a source on this speech, sorry), and I know that he owned many slaves, but then I read that he was an abolitionist. I'm confused. Also, if anybody knows of a really good Jefferson biography I'd love to know about it. Thanks. more

Resolved Question: Why does Flags of Our Treason want answers about liberals but then blocks any liberals from answering?

Is that he continues to practice the anti-free speech of the Confederate States' war powers act? Or is he too busy trying to figure out how to bring back slavery?Yes and there were Union men who wept with joyful tears, When they saw the honored flag they had not seen for years; Hardly could they be restrained from breaking forth in cheers, While we were marching through Georgia. "Sherman's dashing Yankee boys will never make the coast!" So the saucy rebels said and 'twas a handsome boast Had they not forgot, alas! to reckon with the Host While we were marching through Georgia. So we made a thoroughfare for freedom and her train, Sixty miles of latitude, three hundred to the main; Treason fled before us, for resistance was in vain While we were marching through Georgia. So what Robert? proving your love of treason against the US? more

Resolved Question: What does this text from Frederick Douglass mean?

'Nothing is more evident, than that such disclosures are a positive evil to the slaves remaining, and seeking to escape. In publishing such accounts, the anti-slavery man addresses the slaveholder, not the slave; he stimulates the former to greater watchfulness, and adds to the facilities for capturing the slave...' Does it mean that the slaveholder was worried about slaves escaping because of anti-slave speeches? more

Resolved Question: Do you think RUSH did wrong?

The Race Card, Football and Me My Critics Would Have You Believe No Conservative Meets NFL 'Standards.' By RUSH LIMBAUGH David Checketts, an investor and owner of sports teams, approached me in late May about investing in the St. Louis Rams football franchise. As a football fan, I was intrigued. I invited him to my home where we discussed it further. Even after informing him that some people might try to make an issue of my participation, Mr. Checketts said he didn't much care. I accepted his offer. It didn't take long before my name was selectively leaked to the media as part of the Checketts investment group. Shortly thereafter, the media elicited comments from the likes of Al Sharpton. In 1998 Mr. Sharpton was found guilty of defamation and ordered to pay $65,000 for falsely accusing a New York prosecutor of rape in the 1987 Tawana Brawley case. He also played a leading role in the 1991 Crown Heights riot (he called neighborhood Jews "diamond merchants") and 1995 Freddie's Fashion Mart riot. Not to be outdone, Jesse Jackson, whose history includes anti-Semitic speech (in 1984 he referred to Jews as "Hymies" and to New York City as "Hymietown" in a Washington Post interview) chimed in. He found me unfit to be associated with the NFL. I was too divisive and worse. I was accused of once supporting slavery and having praised Martin Luther King Jr.'s murderer, James Earl Ray. Next came writers in the sports world, like the Washington Post's Michael Wilbon. He wrote this gem earlier this week: "I'm not going to try and give specific examples of things Limbaugh has said over the years because I screwed up already doing that, repeating a quote attributed to Limbaugh (about slavery) which he has told me he simply did not say and does not reflect his feelings. I take him at his word. . . . " Mr. Wilbon wasn't alone. Numerous sportswriters, CNN, MSNBC, among others, falsely attributed to me statements I had never made. Their sources, as best I can tell, were Wikipedia and each other. But the Wikipedia post was based on a fabrication printed in a book that also lacked any citation to an actual source. I never said I supported slavery and I never praised James Earl Ray. How sick would that be? Just as sick as those who would use such outrageous slanders against me or anyone else who never even thought such things. Mr. Wilbon refuses to take responsibility for his poison pen, writing instead that he will take my word that I did not make these statements; others, like Rick Sanchez of CNN, essentially used the same sleight-of-hand. The sports media elicited comments from a handful of players, none of whom I can recall ever meeting. Among other things, at least one said he would never play for a team I was involved in given my racial views. My racial views? You mean, my belief in a colorblind society where every individual is treated as a precious human being without regard to his race? Where football players should earn as much as they can and keep as much as they can, regardless of race? Those controversial racial views? The NFL players union boss, DeMaurice Smith, jumped in. A Washington criminal defense lawyer, Democratic Party supporter and Barack Obama donor, he sent a much publicized email to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell saying that it was important for the league to reject discrimination and hatred. When Mr. Goodell was asked about me, he suggested that my 2003 comment criticizing the media's coverage of Donovan McNabb—in which I said the media was cheerleading Mr. McNabb because they wanted a successful black quarterback—fell short of the NFL's "high standard." High standard? Half a decade later, the media would behave the same way about the presidential candidacy of Mr. Obama. Having brought me into his group, Mr. Checketts now wanted a way out. He asked me to resign. I told him no way. I had done nothing wrong. I had not uttered the words these people were putting in my mouth. And I would not bow to their libels and pressure. He would have to drop me from the group. A few days later, he did. As I explained on my radio show, this spectacle is bigger than I am on several levels. There is a contempt in the news business, including the sportswriter community, for conservatives that reflects the blind hatred espoused by Messrs. Sharpton and Jackson. "Racism" is too often their sledgehammer. And it is being used to try to keep citizens who don't share the left's agenda from participating in the full array of opportunities this nation otherwise affords each of us. It was on display many years ago in an effort to smear Clarence Thomas with racist stereotypes and keep him off the Supreme Court. More recently, it was employed against patriotic citizens who attended town-hall meetings and tea-party protests. These intimidation tactics are working and spreading, and they are a cancer on our society. Mr. Limbaugh is a nationally syndicated talk radio host. http://on more

Voting Question: Can someone answer questions about writing a paper?

Okay, I found an article at an online writing source. The author quotes several authors in the body of the text. For example, he said: "Gibbs (2005) said that Lincoln's first speech set the stage for his anti-slavery presidency." When I write the paper about the article, which is really more like a paper, do I site the authors that the author references? Or would i just write: Lincoln's first speech...?" I don't remember how I'm supposed to handle this. Thanks.I mean do I have to include the cited authors the paper's author cited? Do I have to write Gibbs (2005), too? Or is it understand that what I wrote about is already cited by the paper's author? more

Resolved Question: What a disgrace to Iran...and what an idiot?

UNITED NATIONS (AFP) - France on Wednesday led a walkout of a dozen delegations, including the United States, to protest a fiery speech by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the UN General Assembly. "It is disappointing that Mr Ahmadinejad has once again chosen to espouse hateful, offensive and anti-Semitic rhetoric," Mark Kornblau, spokesman to the US mission to the United Nations, said in a statement. Delegations from Argentina, Australia, Britain, Costa Rica, Denmark, France Germany, Hungary, Italy, New Zealand and the United States left the room as Ahmadinejad began to rail against Israel, a European source said. Israel had already called for a boycott of the speech, and was not present when the Iranian leader began his address. Canada had already said it would heed the boycott call. In his address, Ahmadinejad again took aim at Israel without mentioning the country or Jews by name, referring only to the "Zionist regime." The firebrand leader, re-elected in disputed June elections, accused Israel of "inhumane policies in Palestine." "How can the crimes of the occupiers against defenseless women and children... be supported unconditionally by certain governments," Ahmadinejad asked. "And at the same time, the oppressed men and women be subject to genocide and heaviest economic blockade being denied their basic needs, food, water and medicine?" A French diplomat told AFP the Iranian leader's speech was "unacceptable," adding that European delegations had co-ordinated their action in advance if they found parts of the address unpalatable. Suggesting there was a Jewish conspiracy, Ahmadinejad added: "It is no longer acceptable that a small minority would dominate the politics, economy and culture of major parts of the world by its complicated networks." And he accused Jews of seeking to "establish a new form of slavery, and harm the reputation of other nations, even European nations and the US, to attain its racist ambitions." more

Resolved Question: Please rhetorically analyze my speech.?

I wrote it for my speech class, (a persuasive speech). please critique and analyze. Since when is murder legal? The death penalty, defined as: A punishment in which the person who committed the offence is put to death by the State. The death penalty is one of the most controversial issues in America. Many people see the death penalty to serve justice against certain criminals, most convicted of murder. More than half of the world does not use the death penalty, most that do are third-world-countries; and yet, the United States is one out of two first-world-countries that implement the death, the other being Japan; In fact, all of the European Union, most of the Americas, and about half Africa do not believe in the death penalty. Here the major consequences of the death penalty: •It violates the “Cruel and Unusual” clause of the Bill of Rights •It violates the Declaration of Independence’s “unalienable” right of life. •It hurts the family of the convicted •It usually punishes minorities •And most importantly, there is the possibility of error. Make no mistake, just because someone is convicted, does NOT mean he is guilty, in fact, 14% of Americans on death row are innocent, yes this is true; Imagine, of the 3,220 people in the U.S. on death row, around 450 could actually be innocent, which means about half-a-thousand innocent people may die because of an outdated “justice” system. And the worst part is, certain states allow minors to be put on death row, some set the age as young as 13; not only is this really wrong, but only five other countries allow this: Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Sudan, Iran and Nigeria; all third-world-totalitarian-ruled countries. Now let’s look at the statistics: China, by far, is in the lead by about 2,000 executions-per-year, followed by Iran at around 350, Saudi Arabia at 200 or so, the US, a little less than that, then Pakistan, yes the US is actually ahead of Pakistan, imagine that! Now, in a survey conducted by the Associated Press, 64% percent of Americans are for the Penalty, and only 30% are against the death penalty, this is where it gets scary; why would a country, not just any country, but America! Yes, the international role model, whose basis is supposed to value human life, is actually behind other countries with violent reputations, such as Russia, yes its true. And get this, the death penalty actually harms America’s image: It's no secret that anti-Americanism is rampant around the world. One of the reasons is America's continued use of the death penalty. We're seen as a violent, vengeful nation for such a policy. This is pretty much the same view that Europeans had of America when we continued the practice of slavery long after it had been banned in Europe, and elsewhere. It also sends the wrong message: why kill people who kill people to show killing is wrong? Yes, we want to make sure there is accountability for crime and an effective deterrent in place; however, the death penalty has a message of "You killed one of us, so we'll kill you". The State is actually using a murder to punish someone who committed a murder. Does that make any sense?Kimberly, if you don't care, then don't answer! Simple as that! more

Resolved Question: Having heard the Obama Muslim speech, I have several questions I have to ask?

1. What was the point really? Does he just want to be loved? 2. Why can't black Americans stop talking about slavery for 5 seconds? He was in Cairo, talking about American-Muslim relations and he still fit slavery into it. Why? 3. Does anyone think that Obama can get up in front of Muslims and spoon feed them bs that they know is untrue and have them accept it like the American public does? 4. Why hold such talks if he's not going to appologise, promise any new positive policies or even concede any wrong doing on the part of the US? 5. He said he wants to create a world with no nukes! hahahaha, is he on drugs? America give up nukes, that's a good one. 6. Was it the most anti-climatic pointless drivel ever or was it a rousing bit of self-serving rhetoric that will garner him more adoration from people who love frivolous speeches? more

Resolved Question: did the united states sponsor the rise of the third reich?

I am a massive fan of an highly political, anti-capitalist, anti-bush regime latino rapper called immortal technique. On his songs he talks about such subjects as the history of america, slavery, the corruption and deceit of american governemnets, and in particular bush, and middle east politics. On one of his songs there is a line which goes# "i see the world for what it is, beyond the white and the black the way the government downplays historical facts because the united states sponsored the rise of the third reich just like the CIA trained terrorists how to fight" It is clear when listening to immortal technique's speeches and raps he is very intelligent and quite knowledgeable about some things. However, what I would like to know is, the line and about the US involvement in the 3rd reich true, and if so, in what way did they 'sponsor' it? and also, why? Thanks more

Resolved Question: Why don't Conservatives recognize that War is the Health of the State?

As Randolph Bourne understood, "War is the Health of the State." Look at the historical record. No War has ever been compatible with limited government. During the American Revolution, the "Patriots" hypocritically violated the "inalienable" rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness of the Loyalists. During the Civil War, both the North and South implemented Drafts, which is remarkably hypocritical for the Union side which supposedly fought to end slavery and both violated the freedom of speech rights of war opponents. During World War I, Woodrow Wilson socialized almost the entire economy, abolished civil liberties, jailed people for making movies about the Revolutionary War, and waged a terror campaign against German-Americans so nasty that many German-Americans changed their names. During World War II, FDR put Japanese-Americans into concentration camps. During the Vietnam War, police officers murdered anti-war protesters. How can anybody be both pro-war and opposed to big government? Isn't it a bit ironic that Conservatives who denounce the Socialists who currently occupy the White House and have virtually total control of Congress are such fanatical supporters of a Socialist bureaucracy (The Military)? Isn't it long past time for Conservatives to make a choice? You can either choose War or Limited Government. Choosing both is not an option, as a house divided against itself cannot stand. more

Resolved Question: In retrospect did project paperclip lead to a Nazi take over of the US 60yrs ago?

When the Nazis talked about a master race do you think they intended that the blue eyed blonde haired boy was going to be a free thinking person ? Oh yes they told him he was the master race ---- But wasn't the greater goal of the fascist to have a master SLAVE race that did what they were told followed orders and never questioned authority ? Wasn't that more what they had in mind for their so called "master" race --- slavery to the elites ? Wouldn't the last 6 decades of history make more sense if you began to think that maybe the stealing of Nazis lead to the Nazis subversion of the government that stole them ?nonactivist Funny the declassified documents contradict you completely -- But of course you must be right and the documents are wrong And to the guy below you How are those internal check point going and that Pariot act which looks just like the enabling act ? Resolved Question: After reading this quote on abortion, does your perspective change at all?

"…Clarence put his fingers on the keyboard and started the next day's column. Like an extemporaneous speech that's twenty years in the making, his column came from deep within, having been forged in the fires of many years' thoughts and experiences: The slaveowners were pro-choice. They said, "Those who don't want to have slaves don't have to, but don't tell us we can't choose to. It's our right." Those who wanted to make slaveholding illegal were accused of being anti-choice and anti-freedom, of trying to impose their morality on others. The civil rights movement, like the abolitionist movement one hundred years earlier, opposed the exercise of free choice that much of society defended. It was solidly anti-choice when it came to racial discrimination. Historically, whites had a free choice to own slaves, and later to have segregated lunch counters. After all, America was a free country. But the civil rights movement fought to take away that free choice from them. Likewise, the women's movement fought to take away an employer's free choice to discriminate against women. Nearly every movement of oppression and exploitation--from slavery to abortion--has labeled itself "pro-choice". Likewise, opposing movements offering compassion and deliverance have been labeled "anti-choice" by exploiters. In reality, the pro-choice position always emphasizes one person's right to choose instead of the others'. But what about the victims right to choose? Blacks didn't choose slavery. Jews didn't choose the ovens. Women don't choose rape. And babies don't choose abortion. He pressed the word count button. Only two hundred words, a quarter of the way to a column. He'd have to flesh it out, tie it to some current event of the last few days. He took some comfort knowing how many toes he would step on. But he also hoped maybe he would do some good. Maybe somebody out there would listen." From: Dominion by Randy Alcorn Page 138Here's another one for ya: "He'd written some columns on abortion that were among his most controversial. He looked at the one in front of him, written after Susan Smith drowned her children in that Carolina lake:Susan Smith killed her two sons. Amid all the shock and dismay expressed in the media, I can only ask, What's the big deal? Why is everybody so upset? After all, people all over the country, including columnists at this newspaper, have for years defended her right to kill the same two children. Their only stipulation was that Susan Smith kill them when they were younger and smaller. Based on this I can only conclude that Susan Smith, exercising her right to privacy and freedom of choice, was not guilty of doing a bad thing. She was only guilty of bad timing. What she did to her sons was just a very late-term abortion. He'd concluded the article, "It's time for abortion advocates to be honest and admit that Susan Smith is the poster child for pro-choice America."" From: Dominion by Randy Alcorn Page 157Just a comment: So there seems to be a general concensus that if you don't have the means to support an unborn child, you have the right to execute it before it's born. But say you are happily wealthy and years AFTER the baby is born, you lose all means to support it, you should then have the right to dispose of it as well. After all, you don't have the means to give it a decent life anymore. Put it out of it's missery. The only difference is that THEN you would be a classified murderer but if it's just a "fetus" (which by the way, never turns out to be anything other than a human baby... so in my opinion, it IS a human BABY), then you're just doing it a favor? I say, if you aren't prepared to have kids, don't have sex, you can't have your cake and eat it too... so you shouldn't be allowed to have your pleasure without your responsibility. more

Resolved Question: can someones proofread this? 10 points?

Sojourner Truth was an African American woman abolitionist and supporter of the women's rights movement who made many contributions to America. She made many speeches, including her famous, “Ain't I a Woman” speech, and she helped to free many slaves. Sojourner joined the Northampton Association of Education and Industry in Massachusetts. In this association, she worked with many people including, William Lloyd Garrison, Fredrick Douglass and David Ruggles to abolish slavery entirely until the association fell through in 1846. In 1850, The Narrative of Sojourner Truth: William Lloyd Garrison published A Northern Slave. Sojourner gave speeches where copies of the book were sold. She informed many people about anti-slavery and women’s rights. In 1854, she made her most famous “Ain’t I a Woman?” speech at the Ohio Woman’s Rights Convention. Sojourner also enlisted black troops to serve in the Civil War and freed many slaves. After that, she continued touring and giving speeches until she discovered she had ulcers on her legs. This didn’t stop her though, she still continued touring and campaigning for free land for former slaves until she passed away in 1883. These are the things that Sojourner Truth is known for doing that made a huge difference in abolishing slavery in America. more

Shouldn't people who deny Slavery or the Native American Holocaust be put into Prison the way they put Anti-Semites into prison in Europe just for using hate speech? Resolved Question: Regarding "tolerance" what criteria determines what should be tolerated and what shouldn't be tolerated(LONG ?

For example: (in the USA) Now it is politically correct and generally accepted by the public to 1. accept a person's beliefs no matter what religion or lack of religion they practice (even if it is Satan worship) 2. also is it politically correct to allow/ accept/ tolerate a person being for gun control or for the right to bear arms... ---on many controversial issues like those both sides are somewhat tolerated and accepted. (given free speech to a degree etc.) Then it seems to me like there is another "group" of topics/ issues that are even more controversial! These topics include things like: 1. If a person is Pro-Abortion Rights, or else is against Abortion 2. If a person is Homosexuality/ gay marriage or else the person is for marriage to be only between a man and a woman. and in these issues, people dig in deep and fight hard...the other side is often accused of "imposing their morals" against the other side OR the other side will label or "villify" the other side....in these topics the other side is fought against hard (perhaps tolerance is disappearing in issues like these because the alternative is just not acceptable to the people involved). (That is my question again, what should and shouldn't be tolerated? should those things listed above be tolerated?) If so then I want to get to a level that should not be tolerated (FOR SAKE OF COMPARISON) So as a hypothetical situation what if something like this happened: (NOTE: I am not for this...Remember that I am trying to figure out where the line is between things being tolerated and things not being tolerated! ) Say that "Racism" suddenly became politically correct (it has happened in history! (ex: Anti-Semitism or blacks in USA) ...and anyone who opposed a person's "RIGHT" to be a racist was labeled as "INTOLERANT" (they could even be sued for discrimination if desired!).."...so say propaganda like this was created...."after all "Racism" is just an "Attitude" it exists only in the mind of a person"...a person's "Beliefs" should be allowed...if there are no physical manifestations of it in any "ACTIONS"...it is OK...Racism is OK... I mean...after all we ALL have weaknesses!"...What? are YOU perfect? Then how are YOU going to judge the racist? We need to be "TOLERANT" you know...and be compassionate and caring...you know after all that it was their upbringing that caused it...they are just a "product of their environment" and being racist isn't affecting anyone else. etc...etc... then insert instead of "RACISM" insert "STEALING" or "SLAVERY" or "WHATEVER BAD THING YOU WANT THAT SHOULD NOT BE TOLERATED" and at some point YOU will reach something that you think should definitely NOT be tolerated...but what is the line that makes it so? Schroedinger... hmmm...I looked at that link ...it starts to describe personal drug use as a victimless crime...hmmm...if alcohol is considered a drug (by many it is) then the side effects from it's use hardly make it a "victimless" crime...groups such as M.A.D.D. have tried to make that clear...I look at that more later though to see if there is anything better there.. more

Resolved Question: Does a candidate past effect their ability to obtain a clearance?

Imagine for a moment you are an investigator responsible researching Obama's past so he can get a security cleance. You are provided the infomation listed below. Please tell me if you would grant Obama a security clearance in light of his associations and background? * Your candidate has used more than one name. * His original birth certificate is unavailable. * He was mentored during his youth by a high level communist in Hawaii. * You receive a 3 page 'dossier' on Frank Marshall Davis. * You also learn the candidate was proctored into an elite Eastern private university by a Middle Eastern Muslim. * You receive a short dossier on Khalid al-Mansour. * You learn the candidate has terrorist organization 'Nations of Islam' employees on his current staff, and one of his advisors is a member of the global terrorist group 'Muslim Brotherhood.' * You read both books, highlighting the anti-American, anti-white racist passages. *You note the admissions of drug use. * You read the bitter anti-white thesis his wife wrote as a college undergraduate. * You read about the candidate's relative, Raila Odinga, who is connected with brutal Muslim politics in Africa, and background information on the candidate's estranged father who was part of Kenya's most corrupt regime. * You read the complete background on Bill Ayers; his association with your candidate, his FBI criminal record and that Bill Ayers is a completely unrepentant terrorist. * You learn his mentor was Saul Alinsky writer of the book 'Rules for Radicals' * You learn this candidate eulogized Saul Alinsky at his funeral. * You learn this candidate used tactics from 'Rules for Radicals' at his previous employment. * You are advised the candidate's wife used an excerpt from this book during a recent speech * You read the federal indictments on ACORN and learn that this group is being watched by the U.S. Department of Justice and other state and local law enforcement agencies. * You read that your candidate paid ACORN $830,000 dollars in donations and now the group is illegally registering voters. * You learn your candidate is endorsed by every Muslim terrorist organization on Earth; and that previously the candidate favored Muslim beliefs, but as since disclaimed any affiliation. * You read that he is close friends with Rashid Khalidi, a former spokesperson for the PLO. * The candidate also attends parties at Rashidi Khalidi house where the violent overthrow of Israel is discussed. * His friend, Louis Farrakhan, is head of Nation of Islam. * You learn that the candidate's pastor met with global terrorist Mohmmar Khadafi in Libya, along with their mutual friend and anti-American Louis Farrakhan. * You read the printed transcripts of his pastor's anti-White, anti-American' sermons' and are advised your candidate has been close personal friends with this 'pastor' for two decades. * Your candidate has referred to this radical pastor as his 'personal spiritual advisor,' and in fact, the title of one of your candidate’s memoirs was inspired by a line from this pastor's 'sermons.' * You read the file on convicted felon and Syrian born Tony Rezko; his friendship, associations and business transactions with the candidate, as well as high level 'people' of Middle Eastern origin. * You learn that the candidate favored Mr. Rezko by providing him $14,000,000 dollars of tax payer funds. In return, Mr. Rezko gives him the property adjacent to his house at a discount rate. * During college years, you learn that the candidate did not run with a mainstream crowd, but chose radicals and communist agitators for his social group. Your analysis of this person is that this candidate has a tissue thin work experience resume. His own writing exhibits a deep-seeded anger and resentment towards people of the Caucasian race over the issue of slavery. His emotional gravitas is centered upon his African heritage and his belief that the white man is responsible for global poverty and unequal sharing of wealth. The candidate's personal associations since childhood have been mostly with radical African Americans, Muslims, and communists; those who harbor anger towards The United States of America. Particularly disturbing is his lengthy relationship with Bill Ayers, an unrepentant Weatherman radical who bombed government buildings and abdicated the violent overthrow of the United States. The candidate has surrounded himself with anti-American grievance mongers, and appears to manipulate 'typical white people' by appealing to their guilt about slavery. He is a socialist, and totally disenfranchised from the history of 'root America.' The candidate refuses to discuss his years at Columbia University, although he lived off campus and made few friends. He will not release his application to the state bar notes which raises questions on several issues including the use of drugs. more

Resolved Question: Why does the Media Ignore Farrakhan’s Endorsement of Obama?

Why does the media constantly protect obama and ties? Remember Michelle Obama's Famous Anti White Paper. Well check this out. And yet the Obama's say they have no ties with Farrakhan. Imagine the media frenzy that would ensue if David Duke and the Ku Klux Klan endorsed John McCain for president. Yet Louis Farrakhan’s endorsement of Barack Obama has been virtually ignored by the mainstream media. Speaking to a convention of the Nation of Islam, Farrakhan not only declared his support for Obama, but also told his followers that Obama was the “Messiah.” [Editor's Note: Editor's Note: See the video of Louis Farrakhan calling Obama "The Messiah" — Go Here Now]. “You are the instruments that God is gonna use to bring about universal change, and that is why Barack has captured the youth,” Farrakhan said. “And he has involved young people in a political process that they didn’t care anything about. That’s a sign. When the Messiah speaks, the youth will hear, and the Messiah is absolutely speaking.” Farrakhan compared Obama to Nation of Islam founder Wallace D. Fard Muhammad, whom Farrakhan says also had a white mother and black father. “A black man with a white mother became a savior to us,” Farrakhan said. “A black man with a white mother could turn out to be one who can lift America from her fall.” Incredibly, only Fox News and a few other news outlets have run Farrakhan’s endorsement. Farrakhan made the statement last February, but it only recently appeared on YouTube. While Obama has no control over who endorses him, the nature of those who express affinity with him provides insight into who he is and what his agenda could be. Obama’s endorsers and supporters range from admitted terrorist William Ayers and Weatherman Underground leader Bernardine Dohrn to Jane Fonda, Tom Hayden, the New Black Panthers, the New SDS, and a host of other radical organizations and individuals. Among other things, the New Black Panthers favors releasing all blacks from jails throughout the world and giving blacks reparations for slavery. The group asserts that until that happens, blacks should be exempt from all taxes. The media blackout on Obama’s associations goes back to last January, when Newsmax began running stories on his minister’s sermons and the fact that his church gave an award for lifetime achievement to Farrakhan. When the media finally began picking up the stories in mid-March, the primaries began favoring Hillary Clinton instead of Obama. Farrakhan has called whites “blue-eyed devils” and the Antichrist. He has described Jews as “bloodsuckers” who control the government, the media, and some black organizations. “Do you know some of these satanic Jews have taken over BET [the Black Entertainment Network]?” Farrakhan said in a speech on Nov. 11, 2007. “Everything that we built, they have. The mind of Satan now is running the record industry, movie industry, and television. And they make us look like we’re the murderers; we look like we’re the gangsters, but we’re punk stuff.” The month after that speech, Obama’s minister and friend, the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. and his Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, honored Farrakhan at a gala, bestowing on him its Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. Lifetime Achievement Trumpeteer award. Obama has said he found religion through Wright in the 1980s and consulted him before deciding to run for president. He prayed privately with Wright before announcing his candidacy last year. In the November/December issue of his church’s magazine, Trumpet, Wright heaped praise on Farrakhan, whom he helped in organizing the Million Man March in Washington in 1995. Wright lauded Farrakhan as one of the giants of the African-American religious experience in the 20th and 21st centuries. “When Minister Farrakhan speaks, black America listens,” Wright said. “His depth on analysis [sic] when it comes to the racial ills of this nation is astounding and eye opening. He brings a perspective that is helpful and honest.” Hailing Farrakhan’s “integrity and honesty,” Wright said, “His love for Africa and African-American people has made him an unforgettable force, a catalyst for change, and a religious leader who is sincere about his faith and his purpose.” When no one in the media was picking up Newsmax’s stories on Wright’s award to Farrakhan and his sermons saying America created the AIDS virus to kill off blacks, a reporter for one of the cable news networks told me that if she proposed running such a story, her network would accuse her of “bias against Obama.”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ha5HEc-vOJsAnd King you are wrong Actually the klan is supporting obama...get your facts straight before you spew lies. Resolved Question: i'll give you points for helping me about..David Livingstone!?

PrettyPlease Answer this, dont press back lol!.. it might take a while but it would be much apreciated if u could help!!thanks. Okay, so im doing a biography on David Livingstone.. this is what i have;; David Livingstone was born on the 19th of March in 1813 in Blantyre Scotland. From a young age David Livingstone had planned to become a Calvinist missionary. After finishing his education, David Livingstone was ready to preach the gospel of God to the earth. He had always wanted to do missionary work in China but he set off to Africa instead. There he succeeded in making some of the most spectacular discoveries of this day. David was one of seven children of Neil and Agnes Livingstone, by the age of ten he started work in a cotton mill factory he helped with the family finances and he still managed to complete his studies. In 1830 British churches put out a call for missionaries to go to China, David couldn’t resist the chance to go. So he studied for two years to receive an advanced degree. Unfortunately, just as the team were about to embark to Asia, the trip was cancelled; China became embroiled in the Opium Wars. David had spoken to Robert Moffat a South African missionary, not long after the cancellation of his trip. Mr. Moffat convinced David that his missionary services were needed in Africa. So not long after, in 1841 David landed in Cape Town South Africa. Moffat was right about needing Livingstone’s help in Africa. As Livingstone devoted himself to his missionary work, he also became a vocal anti-slavery advocate. His rally against the slavery made him an enemy of the Boers and the Portuguese people. David traveled from village to village and it introduced him to parts of southern Africa that had never been explored by other Europeans. Livingstone made his way through to the Kalahari visiting places never known by others. He was recognized by his bravery and Mr. Livingstone became part of a team sent to explore Lake Ngami, their discoveries resulted in the presentation of a gold medal from the Royal Geographic Society. In between his journeys, in 1844 David Livingstone married Mary. The eldest daughter of Robert Moffat to them the had 6 children. After marrying, Mary traveled by Livingstone’s side for seven years before he made Mary return to Britain with their kids. From 1852-56 David had explored the African interior and was the first European to see the Mosioa-Tunya waterfall also known as ‘Victoria F Mosioa-Tunya alls’. He was also the first European to cross the entire width of southern part of Africa. These discoveries made David Livingstone well known in England, he left Africa in 1856 to launch his book he wrote about his experiences, he also gave speeches as he traveled around England. He went back to Africa In the year 1858 only to discover more things. He came across Lake Nyasa (1858) the Chilwa River (1859) and plenty other places. In March 1869 he reached Ujiji only to discover that there was no mail and that his supplies had been stolen. David was sick, depressed, and exhausted. In September he set out again witnessing horrific slave trades. By this time Europe and America hadn’t heard from him and they thought that David was lost! So the Lon don Daily Telegraph and the New York Herald sent a man known as Henry Stanley to search for him. Stanley searched for a long time and then he happened to find David Livingstone in Ujiji he stayed with David for a while but unable to persuade Livingstone to return to England, Stanley reequipped him and departed. On May the 1st 1873, David’s servants found him in his tent kneeling in prayer. He had died. His men buried his heart and his body was taken back to England. On April 18, 1874, Livingstone was buried in great honor in London's Westminster Abbey. What main events should i add to it?? say anything for me to make this better and more interesting!! thanks a bunch LIFE SAVERS YOU ALL ARE. x more

Resolved Question: Have you read this speech, given by Obama in 2002?

Thoughts? October 2002 Speech: Against Going to War With Iraq by Barack Obama October 2, 2002 Good afternoon. Let me begin by saying that although this has been billed as an anti-war rally, I stand before you as someone who is not opposed to war in all circumstances. The Civil War was one of the bloodiest in history, and yet it was only through the crucible of the sword, the sacrifice of multitudes, that we could begin to perfect this union, and drive the scourge of slavery from our soil. I don’t oppose all wars. My grandfather signed up for a war the day after Pearl Harbor was bombed, fought in Patton’s army. He saw the dead and dying across the fields of Europe; he heard the stories of fellow troops who first entered Auschwitz and Treblinka. He fought in the name of a larger freedom, part of that arsenal of democracy that triumphed over evil, and he did not fight in vain. I don’t oppose all wars. After September 11th, after witnessing the carnage and destruction, the dust and the tears, I supported this administration’s pledge to hunt down and root out those who would slaughter innocents in the name of intolerance, and I would willingly take up arms myself to prevent such tragedy from happening again. I don’t oppose all wars. And I know that in this crowd today, there is no shortage of patriots, or of patriotism. What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war. What I am opposed to is the cynical attempt by Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz and other armchair, weekend warriors in this administration to shove their own ideological agendas down our throats, irrespective of the costs in lives lost and in hardships borne. What I am opposed to is the attempt by political hacks like Karl Rove to distract us from a rise in the uninsured, a rise in the poverty rate, a drop in the median income - to distract us from corporate scandals and a stock market that....has just gone through the worst month since the Great Depression. That’s what I’m opposed to. A dumb war. A rash war. A war based not on reason but on passion, not on principle but on politics. Now let me be clear - I suffer no illusions about Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal man. A ruthless man. A man who butchers his own people to secure his own power. He has repeatedly defied UN resolutions, thwarted UN inspection teams, developed chemical and biological weapons, and coveted nuclear capacity. He’s a bad guy. The world, and the Iraqi people, would be better off without him. But I also know that Saddam poses no imminent and direct threat to the United States, or to his neighbors, that the Iraqi economy is in shambles, that the Iraqi military a fraction of its former strength, and that in concert with the international community he can be contained until, in the way of all petty dictators, he falls away into the dustbin of history. I know that even a successful war against Iraq will require a US occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined cost, with undetermined consequences. I know that an invasion of Iraq without a clear rationale and without strong international support will only fan the flames of the Middle East, and encourage the worst, rather than best, impulses of the Arab world, and strengthen the recruitment arm of Al Qaeda. I am not opposed to all wars. I’m opposed to dumb wars. So for those of us who seek a more just and secure world for our children, let us send a clear message to the President today. You want a fight, President Bush? Let’s finish the fight with Bin Laden and Al Qaeda, through effective, coordinated intelligence, and a shutting down of the financial networks that support terrorism, and a homeland security program that involves more than color-coded warnings. You want a fight, President Bush?Let’s fight to make sure that the UN inspectors can do their work, and that we vigorously enforce a non-proliferation treaty, and that former enemies and current allies like Russia safeguard and ultimately eliminate their stores of nuclear material, and that nations like Pakistan and India never use the terrible weapons already in their possession, and that the arms merchants in our own country stop feeding the countless wars that rage across the globe. You want a fight, President Bush? Let’s fight to make sure our so-called allies in the Middle East, the Saudis and the Egyptians, stop oppressing their own people, and suppressing dissent, and tolerating corruption and inequality, and mismanaging their economies so that their youth grow up without education, without prospects, without hope, the ready recruits of terrorist cells. You want a fight, President Bush? Let’s fight to wean ourselves off Middle East oil, through an energy policy that doesn’t simply serve the interests of...and Mobil. Those are the battles that we need to fight. Those are the battles that we willingly join. The battles against ignorance and intolerance. Corruption and greed. Poverty and despair. The consequences of war are dire, the sacrifices immeasurable. We may have occasion in our lifetime to once again rise up in defense of our freedom, and pay the wages of war. But we ought not — we will not — travel down that hellish path blindly. Nor should we allow those who would march off and pay the ultimate sacrifice, who would prove the full measure of devotion with their blood, to make such an awful sacrifice in vain.Freethinker - thanks for video link! more

Resolved Question: Are veg*ns more likely to be attracted to other moral causes?

I thinking about causes such as environmental, no-sweat, Pro-Life, Anti-War, Stopping poverty and famine, promoting democracy here and abroad, racial justice, anti-death penalty, getting corporations off of welfare as well as watchdogging the methods in which the apply political pressure, equitable income distribution and trade agreements, health and safety standards and their enforcement, conscription (slavery), torture, freedom of speech, and of course animal rights as well as many many other issues. I'm not saying one must agree to any of these issues if veg*n. I'm only asking are veg*ns more likely to fight for a cause they feel is moral and just as opposed to being apathetic and uncaring. more

Resolved Question: Would you vote for Obama if he gave Slavery Reparations?

Barrack Obama’s pastor not only spews anti-American rhetoric from the pulpit but favors shaking down U.S. taxpayers for “reparations” for slavery. The Reverend Dr. Jeremiah Wright was the keynote speaker at the 2007 annual conference of N’COBRA, which stands for the National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in America. And yes, we've all heard him say those are the words of his pastor and he can not be held responsible. But I don't put much credence in his now famous speech, since he outright LIED about it the friday before. Source: http://www.ncobraphiladelphia.org/joomla/schedule.html more

Resolved Question: history speech!!! please help im stumd. DUE TOMORROW!!!!HELP?

As an anti-federalist, I feel that the government is not being fair on the part of the citizens. Citizens too, should take part in ratifying the constitution; they too have as much rights as the states. They have a right to judge of its virtues. There are good reasons for thinking that the state is not what we want. A strong government threatens the rights of citizens. In addition, the Constitution that we have right now only favors wealthy men and preserves their rights. Because the federalists have clear majorities, we need to get more citizens involved. Even though the Constitution protects slavery, it ignores women, and does not recognize Native Americans’ rights. Many small farmers have learned to be self-sufficient and find that this government is very unpleasant. Never since the Constitution came into force has the U.S. had an up or down vote on the federal union itself. We, the Americans have fought a war defending our rights, and to have a Constitution that gives too much power to congress will be taking away those rights of which we fought. The amendment of the articles of Confederation is a good idea, and the government should do it. Through the process of ratification and with the addition of the Bill of Rights, more people can shape the Constitution than the flawed Articles of Confederation. Moreover, the abuse of power by congress could either compromise or destroy the liberty and rights of citizens. If the state refuses to make amendments to the Constitution, what was won in the revolution will be lost again. The state should make amendments to the current Constitution to keep citizen’s rights more

Resolved Question: Essay Help Please Any Corrections or Revisions are Appreciated?

Following the American Civil War came a self-reliant and inspiring Booker Taliaferro Washington an esteemed black educator who demanded civil reform with authority. Life was not simple for Booker T who from the minute of his birth on April 5, 1856, was brought in enslavement. Working in the burdensome salt furnace at the young age of ten with his father, while still attending school, his life had a tough schedule, which was lessened by his admission to the Hampton Institute, a school set up by rich whites to instruct newly freed slaves from the Civil War. There he worked as a janitor to pay for his school fee. Completing his time in Hampton in 1875, he was hired in the fall of 1879 to teach young Native Americans and to teach night classes for black men and women.
