It can also be caused by an unresponsive DNS server or a firewall preventing Google Chrome from accessing the network. Here are some suggestions: Reload this webpage later. I'm trying to use a friend's computer to do some work on a school project, and I like to use portable apps for this sort of thing (Programs that save work and history and such to a flash drive). I was looking up my stuff on Chrome Portable, but apparently I can't connect to the net using portable apps. But his apps work just fine. He said I could change the firewall settings, so I turned it off for a few minutes and tried again, but nothing changed. Is there any particular reason it's not working? more

Open Question: Some games wont open on newly built PC?

Hi, so I recently built a new gaming PC, and for the most part its a breeze. However, whenever I try to launch about 80% Of my games, it comes up with loading, and then nothing happens. The process is visible on task manager, but never exceeds 20K Memory so It's obviously not doing much. I am however able to get them started by fiddling around with compatibility settings and CONSTANTLY running as an admin/not running as an admin/changing compatibility mode until it eventually works once. After which the current settings no longer work. I have the latest drivers for my GTX 670, checked as of yesterday. Any help is appreciated. (I have even reinstalled Starcraft and the problem persists, I have also turned off anti-virus and double checked they are all accepted in firewall by both private and public networks.) more

I have a job where I work twelve hour shifts, six days a week at a computer desk. I am allowed to do anything I want at this computer, including browse the internet, etc. However, the computers rights have been tightned down to avoid things like adult material. This includes the website its self being blocked. I installed the client earlier today, and figured that the firewall may have it blocked. I have also attempted one or two proxy servers, however, those were blocked as well. Without altering the computer in any way (Changing Firewall settings, going into CMD prompt), how can I access runescape?My job is to sit at this desk, once again, allowed to do anything I'd like. I will not get fired or am breaking any company policies. I understand that jealousy may happen due to me having such an awesome job, but please, helpful answers.Evelyn, my boss is located in another state, so asking them to unblock something so I could amuse myself seems like a waste of time. I could unblock it myself, however, altering the firewall etc would be against company policy. more

Voting Question: Second Life is saying I'm having internet problems, but my internet is fine, What do I do?

I've had Second Life on this laptop for about a year now. But over the last month or so after I've been online for a minute or so the message saying I have to check my connection to the internet pops up and I crash, Even if my internet is fine. I've tried using different viewers (Singularity and Firestorm) but it keeps happening. I've tried to see if anything related to SL isn't allowed on my firewall but when I get to the "Allowed Programs" Part, It says "Windows firewall is not using the recommended settings to protect your computer" And there's an option saying "Use recommended settings" But when I click it, it says "Windows Firewall can't change some of your settings. Error Code 0x80070424". I don't understand much about Firewalls or how SL Works... so if you can help it would be much appreciated. more

I had an issue with my router and my ISP suggested I contact the manufacturer directly. Went on google and contacted what I thought was netgear. The person had me install team viewer, on Mac went into my terminal, ran the a netstat command, and whois they looked at the info there. They also looked at my network settings. When looking at my setteings they told me I had a bunch of in authorized connections to my computer and I should pay a fee to close them. At which point I realized this was bull, and hung up. They know my name, occupation, IP address, name of my MacBook. How much at risk am I of identity theft, and financial threats. I have a firewall on, and I'm now going through my router. Is there a way to just make everything default the way it was when I bought the computer? Well, I was trying to forward my ports to make a Minecraft server and changed my ip to static. I pressed test and as soon as I did it said that I couldn't connect to the link or it might be broken. From there I couldn't connect to the internet. I tried to connect back with my ethernet cable and it worked, but I couldn't connect to my default access. I also looked at my ipconfig in command prompt, and it appears that the media state is disconnected in "Wireless LAN Adapter Wireless Network Connection". I can't get a list of connections to connect to either. Is there a way I can change the ip settings back to the way they were so I can connect to internet wirelessly again? more

Resolved Question: My laptop can't connect to the Wireless Router anymore.?

My friend is running a laptop with Windows 7. She connects to the wireless router 2 doors up. When they first got the laptop, I fixed it up and allowed it to be able to connect. It was fine for a while and then suddenly couldn't connect. They sent me the laptop and as I turned it on it immediately connected to my wireless network. I took it to their place, and they had already tried cycling the router and modem power supplies. I also noticed that all other mobile devices easily connect to the access point. I removed the router from the saved access points and tried to set up a new one. It can't find the access point by searching because the router does not broadcast its SSID. I manually set up the SSID, password, etc. Now it can see the access point, but can't connect to it. There is a red X that claims the configuration settings saved on this computer for that specific SSID is wrong, to which they informed me was the problem that suddenly occurred and why they sent it to me in the first place. I had to leave before going up to the computer two houses up and entering the router configuration page, but want a better idea for a solution when I return. Currently my only idea is to return, check the authentication method is in fact WPA, and if it's not reconfigure the settings on the laptop. I have an ASB in Computer Science and Programming and an AST in Network Administration and Security. I should have had no problem with this but I've been out of work for a year now due to a disability from which I'm almost recovered (enough). I suppose it's possible something had escaped me but the computer has no viruses, spyware, adware, or malware. All programs, drivers, and Windows updates are current. I used CCleaner to correct the registry errors. All of the configurations for the access point seem accurate with the SSID name and password both typed correctly. I've never heard of a firmware update changing a router's authentication method, so I didn't feel the need to stop using WPA-personal. Any advice would be much appreciated. more

Resolved Question: Why has my wifi stopped working like normal?

So normally i use my laptop in my bedroom and the wifi connection from my living room works fine (i get 4 out 5 bars) it's a great connection, it's nice and quick. Ok so now all of a sudden it's stopped working and i can just about get a connection, but its very poor! It's better if i had no internet because it annoys me that much! I've never had this problem on this laptop before . Steps i've took to fix it: I've reset the router 100 times, took the wires out put them back in etc etc and laptop - still a poor connection, even if i sit in the same room as the router it has a pathetic 3/5 bars! I have to sit really close to it to get a full connection I've done a massive virus/malware scan to find anything slowing down my computer - i used kaspersky rescue disk 10 - i removed a few viruses but still nothing to improve wifi i constantly run malware detection programs i.e malware bytes spy bot..they help my laptop but STILL wifi is crap! (but the laptop runs perfect) Done windows updates, the firewall is normal i've not touched it and cleaned my comp and simply cant find the route problem!! There are no other conflicting wifi signals around - so i dont need to change the channel settings! Everything was fine before so why now? MY OTHER LAPTOPS AND PHONE WITH WIFI WORKS FINE!!!! SO WHY THIS LAPTOP? It's more new than the other one It's a HP Pavilion g6 notebook pc i5 cpu 4gb ram 64 bit windows 7 operating system Its a beast of a laptop! But why in gods name has the wifi lost so much signal strength?? i've checked the device settings = it says the device is working normally, the wireless button works but SOMETHING has broke the signal! My main reason why its not working like before: I have dropped the laptop a few times! maybe its slightly broke internally? and the latch holding the screen to the keyboard has broke off and a wire broke (but this wire isn't a wifi wire, it simply just held the screen in place..) Shall i do a complete system reboot and start my comp from scratch? i'd be happy if i could get it to atleast 3/5 bars - 1/5 is just INFURIATING! Okay, so I've had my acer aspire 5742 laptop for about 2 years now and google chrome was already installed when I got it- everything worked fine up until about two months ago when I double clicked on the icon in the task bar and it illuminated as if chrome was going to load but then faded and didn't load. Since then I have had to rely on internet explorer- which I hate- to try and help me find the answer as to how to fix chrome. I have tried everything I know of- changing the code thingy to -no-sandbox (or whatever it was), changing the code to .exe, typing in that code in the RUN system. Nothing seems to work! I don't know how to uninstall it either, so if you don't mind then please can you put in simple step-by-step instructions alongside your answer so that I can re-install it! I know how I sound, but I am seriously at my wits end!!! Resolved Question: What do I do?! PS3 DNS Error Code 80710102?

I have had my PS3 Slim since last June, and have only had minor connection problems that last a day or two and then I was able to fix. This time, I have not been able to access the Playstation Network for over a week now. I have tried nearly everything that I have found on the internet, but noting has worked. I don't believe there is anything wrong with my wifi, because both my iPod Touch and Laptop can connect to it without any trouble at all. When I go to to test my connection on the PS3, it sucessfully obtains to IP Adress, but always says "Failed" when it gets to "Internet Connection". Under my list of settings, it says Interntet Connection is Enabled, and it picks up SSID and says the Signal Strength is 100% (my router is literally 10 feet from the PS3 device). It is on Channel 6 (unaware what this means) and a few websites suggested entering 208.67.222.222 for the Primary DNS and 208.67.220.220 for the Secondary DNS, so I entered those and have kept them. Also, at the bottom of the list it says "NAT Type Failed", if that information would help to solve the problem. My wireless rouer is a Linksys Wireless-G 2.4 GHz Broadband Router, and Comcast is my provider. I hope all this information could assist anyone interesting in helping me. Thank you! more

Hi, this is a huge issue for me and I desperately need help on it. Whenever I use any program that uses Java, I get errors; mostly to do with downloading .jar files online and when I use Java apps online I get the ClassNotFound Exception error. Firstly, I'd like to declare I'm good with computers - I know what I'm doing most times but I am not a Java developer or anything like that... I don't understand how Java works. This is what happens every time -----> http://i.imgur.com/jVht0mz.png The main reason I am trying to fix this is so I can play RuneScape again - I have just also noticed the same happens on everything else Java. Here is a list of solutions I've tried: - Disabling firewall/anti-virus/etc temporarily - Changing firewall settings - Reinstalling the most recent version - Uninstalling all files and registries involving Java and reinstalling - Using the older versions of Java 6 - online and offline, developer and user - Using Java on other network computers (which worked on the others so not sure why mine won't) - Editing some environmental variables (may not have done this attempt right) I can provide any additional information needed but I desperately want to fix this error as it is giving me the s**ts! Any offers for help would be much appreciated and I'm also happy to discuss this outside of Yahoo Answers, as the question will expire unfortunately.Installed the JDK and updated my driver and still getting the same error :-( more

Hey guys I need to forward the port 25565 for Minecraft, to be more specific a craftbukkit server. I had a server setup up before using Minecraft_Server.exe however i felt like the server needs more so i upgraded to craftbukkit server. The thing is my ports used to work for my old server however they will not open for craft bukkit. I have searched the WWW for about 4 hours now on how to open up these ports but no matter what or how i do it they will not open. Yes I did follow the good old tutorials, changed router settings (Bt HomeHub 2), changed firewalls and even my antivirus but still nothing. I used canyouseeme.org, whatsmyip.org and other websites that show if port is opened however 25565 is not. I know that people who want to connect to my sever need my external IP and i have given them it but it still shows that the port is timed out. I have used the command prompt to see the status of the port and it showed me that port 25565 was TIME_WAIT ( i used the "netstat" command). I think that i went through everything that i did... i have covered the basics but i kinda hope that the mistake is small. I have added 25565 as an exception for TCP and UDP separately, then together and still doesn't work. The port forwarding was linked to my PC by a name and then IP just to make sure but still nothing. I have assigned the port 80 as well to see if it actually works and apparently it does however the port that i need doesn't. I have no other clues on how to fix it and im going quite mental to be honest. I have looked through all the forums and tutorials and nothing seems to work for me. I even used tutorials from my ISP. Please help me out here because i would really like to get this thing running. If you guys would like the IP of the server then i will give you it only if it works... obviously. Resolved Question: WAMP MYSQL or MYSQL service on clients side?

We have designed an application using .NET framework. There is a client application and a server application. The client applications, webpages, android/ iphone applications fetch data from the server using the WCF service. My issue here is that some of the data on the application is not being saved on the server, we have designed the application in such a way that every change on the client side will be reflected on the server side, this is done to make this a cloud based application. Some of the settings changed or value input on the client side is not updating on the server while using the direct MYSQL service. However there are absolutely no issues while using WAMP as the MYSQL service. We have tried matching the versions and also have tried new and old versions of the standalone MYSQL. Firewall settings all seem fine. Since we prefer to install the standalone MYSQL over WAMP on our customers machines, it would be great if you could shed some light on the possible issues. Is there any difference in the initial config of MYSQL and the default config of WAMP MYSQL. Hence if there is any thing in particular to note or tweak in this regards it will be really helpful. Voting Question: Internet download speed question?

Recently I changed my comcast internet service from the 6mb to the blast internet service which is 25mb. I made the change because I wanted to be able to watch sportcenter on my tablet. before I would go on bit torrent and download at 2mb/sec and now with the supposed faster internet I am only downloading at 800k/sec max. Anybody know why this might be happening? I disabled my firewall in the router settings and just enabled port forwarding, still slow speeds. thanks more

-Linksys E1000 -I cannot access it with my browser. -I cannot unplug the router from the electrical outlet or computer, or add/remove any cables. -My dad used a Setup CD to install the network. I have a Minecraft Server running, but no one can access it, because my port is 'closed'. I tried a port forwarding program, but it only port forwards to any computer within the network, and not to any other network. I looked in the owners manual, but they tell me the exact thing the Internet does. 'Open your browser, type in 192.168.1.1 in the address bar, and hit Enter'. I have a Windows 7 Home Premium laptop. The router is connected to an old Windows XP laptop. All I need to do is open the 25565 port. It is allowed through my Firewall. Can anyone help me?EDIT: I am able to plug in an 'Ethernet' cable into my computer, and the other end in plugged into one of the Local Area Network ports. I restarted the computer, and opened my browser. My 'Default Gateway' is 192.168.1.1, so I entered that into the address bar. 'Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to 192.168.1.1'. Resolved Question: I screwed up my NAT type. Please help?

I posted a question yesterday asking for help on that my router settings were different than everyone elses and all the guides to changing NAT type were different than how mine is. (you might could find the question to get all the details) but the only answer i got was to try a website called portforward.com, there i downloaded something called PFConfig. (it was $30 and I am cheap so i got it off thepiratebay but it seemed like a good unvirused download) and then i ran it and followed the instructions, sure enough, my router model wasn't listed in the netgear model list (FYI: model number is B90-755025-15 and the manufacturer is Netgear). anyways, it gave me the option of unlisted model, so i went with that. and it asked for the name of the router and password. so i gave it to it (I was a little skeptical of that but i thought it seemed real) and then i followed the instructions of port forwarding. well then i got in modern warfare 2 and checked the NAT type, still moderate. then i reset the xbox, i get back on MW2... NAT type is strict now! I tried using the program to change it back but it wouldnt. could someone possibly tell me how to change the nat type manually? or just anything to get out of theis crappy NAT type? Networking is not my strong point (I have done very basic networking etc) so here is a simple question for those who know it a lot better than me so basically I think I understand the basic concept but correct me were I am wrong as I need to know. So basically a subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 So am I right in saying if an IP address is set to for example 195.168.2.1 according to the subnet mask this should lock in the first 3 sets of numbers to identify a network and only computers connected to my LAN can access this eg 195.168.2.XX can access the network but 195.168.1.2 could not access the network. Am I also right in saying if a subnet mask is set to 255.255.255.0 a maximum of 225 computers could technically be networked to the ip address starting 195.168.2.xx (up to 225) Now if Im right so far (I hope I am) but I think I am going to be wrong here, what if the subnet was changed on another computer network to 255.255.0.0 and the IP address was set on one of its devices to 195.168.2.13 could this computer access the network with the Subnet of 255.255.255.0 but any computers with this subnet 255.255.255.0 could not access the computers with the subnet 225.225.225.0 as the IP address of that other computers on that network as there devices could have IP addresses of 192.168.7.10 but if an IP address was set to match the first 3 sets of numbers in 195.168.2.xx those computers could communicate and other computers on the other network could not eg 192.168.12.12 I hope I you can understand what I mean in the above is wrong please correct me. more

Hey guys... I need expert advice. I am getting DNS lookup failure in Chrome and cannot seem to figure out why this is happening. I am in IT so your answer can be technical. I have tried another router which worked fine for a while and then it started happening again. I even tried using google's DNS server but that does not help. I have disabled "network action prediction" and "use a web service to help resolve navigation errors" in Chrome and no luck. I know for a fact that I do have internet connection cause I can ping sites. Could this be due to a network attack of some sort? Like a flooder cause my roommate is also on the network and I am beginning to get suspicious about him? Or could this be a ISP issue? I recently upgraded my router and now my Chrome and Firefox browsers are not working properly. programs from Steam, TeamSpeak, itunes, Internet explorer connects and works perfectly.
