Resolved Question: is there any physical evidence linking the Greeks to troy?

remains of what is believed to be the city of Ilium (Troy) have already been unearthed but is there any evidence linking Greece to Troy's downfall besides what was written in Homer's Iliad? more

Resolved Question: How is the beginning of my story? Keep or ditch??? Honest Opinion please...?

“Troy, you can’t leave me here alone.” Tears streamed down my face. “What am I going to do for a year without you?” I murmured tearfully. “Wait for me Amelia, I will come back.” Troy reached forward and touched my face. I looked into his icy blue eyes and whispered, “Be careful. I will be waiting for you.” Troy came close to me and gave me a long, warm, romantic hug. He gave a nod and then walked off into the foggy forest. “Goodbye my love.” I dropped to my knees and wiped away my tears. “Forever I will love you!” I muttered in a sad tone. “CUT!” Mr. Welling yelled, my director. “That’s a rap people.” He climbed down from his chair and walked over to me. “Excellent Miss. Cole, you made it so… believable! I can’t wait until the public sees this episode! Oh my!” He mumbled stuff to himself as he walked away. I giggled to myself about how crazy that man could be. I came to my feet and brushed the synthetic grass from my long 18th century dress. When I looked my co-star Eli was standing there. “Nice fake tears Scar.” He joked with a smile. “Well I almost burst out laughing with your whole ‘Wait for me Amelia, I will come back’ line.” I laughed. “Humph, I thought I did a pretty good job trying to make it look as dramatic as possible.” He said thoughtfully. “Oh you did Eli, you certainly did.” I grinned showing my fake “Amelia Coff” smile. “But anyways Scarlett, I was wondering if you wanted to hang out or something since were done with the season finale and everything for a couple weeks.” He looked at me with his amazing white smile, icy but warm blue eyes and his frisky, dirty blond hair. “Eli, I really wish I could but I’m going to Salt Lake City for two weeks to visit my brothers and then Colorado for a “family bonding” trip.” I replied in a sorrowful voice. He looked down at his feet with his hands in his pockets and I felt really bad. “But maybe I could find a time for us to hang out. What about tomorrow morning at Starbuck’s for coffee at 7?” I asked in a hopeful voice. “Perfect. Thanks Scar, your…” He gave me a smirk and shook his head. “Never mind. I’ll see you tomorrow.” He turned around and walked toward his room. Before I could even give any emotion about what just happened, “Scarlett dear” interrupted me. I spun around to see my mom strutting her $700 leather boots toward me with an unhappy look on her botoxed face. “You know your plane leaves tomorrow morning at 8 and you just planned a date with Eli for 7. Don’t you think you’re cutting it close?” She lectured to me. “Mom, you should have seen the look on his face. He thought I just didn’t like him, which isn’t true. I really like him, but since my life is a crazy mess I never have time for a social life.” “Well Scarlett, you’re a celebrity. You have to do interviews, conferences, magazine shoots and ACT! So as soon as those things are taken care of, you can go have a social life with that boy.” She told me like always. I grunted under my breath but just glared at her. “Hurry up and get changed, I’ll be in the car.” She said as she whisked out her phone to reply to a text. She loudly chopped her bubble gum as she hurried to the car. I gave a sigh and walked to my dressing room. When I opened the door I saw my manager, Talia, picking out my clothes. “Scarlett, don’t worry about it, your moms not in the best mood today. I heard her yapping to what’s his name about him taking her new mustang to work this morning.” She laughed. “What a drama queen. No wonder this is husband #4.” Talia handed me a yellow sundress with a pair of grey converse sneakers. “Tell me about it Tal. The only reason I live with her instead of my dad is because she’s in L.A. Oh and if you think she’s a drama queen, you should meet my stepbrother Rehn. He is a total attention hog.” I said in a frustrated tone. more

Voting Question: How is NYC similar to historic Troy and Babylon? Are they all sharing the same fate?

Troy and Babylon in ancient Asia Minor and Palestine were both considered impregnable, and therefore unconquerable. NYC was universally admired and revered as the standard of excellence for a modern city. But each had its fortification BREACHED; then the enemy poured in. And the destruction of the city followed. Is that now happening to the great metropolis of the modern world? As the foreign hordes pour in to take the vacant place of the fleeing native middle-class. Each to the tune of a million per yr. With the grand total of the city still eternally at 8-1/2 million. AS IF NOTHING IS HAPPENING. Is it "all over now, Baby Blue," as little bobby zimmerman put it (Bob Dylan). Can any of us see that this is happening? Oy vey, who knew? Can we at least be prepared to face the end. Or will we all sleep for another ten thousand millennia? And awake to glory?see previous questions, for additional details and explanations. 1) Brown v Bd of Ed (Sup Ct 1954) 2) None dare call it treason, ralph de Toledano (DC 1955). 3) The flight of the middle-class, barbara zimmerman, NY daily news, 2001 more

What do you feel is Homer’s tone in Book I? THE ODYSSEY by Homer translated by Samuel Butler BOOK I TELL ME, O MUSE, of that ingenious hero who traveled far and wide after he had sacked the famous town of Troy. Many cities did he visit, and many were the nations with whose manners and customs he was acquainted; moreover he suffered much by sea while trying to save his own life and bring his men safely home; but do what he might he could not save his men, for they perished through their own sheer folly in eating the cattle of the Sun-god Hyperion (Helios); so the god prevented them from ever reaching home. Tell me, too, about all these things, O daughter of Jove (Zeus), from whatsoever source you may know them. So now all who escaped death in battle or by shipwreck had got safely home except Ulysses (Odysseus), and he, though he was longing to return to his wife and country, was detained by the goddess Calypso (Kalypso), who had got him into a large cave and wanted to marry him. But as years went by, there came a time when the gods settled that he should go back to Ithaca; even then, however, when he was among his own people, his troubles were not yet over; nevertheless all the gods had now begun to pity him except Neptune (Poseidon), who still persecuted him without ceasing and would not let him get home. Now Neptune (Poseidon) had gone off to the Ethiopians, who are at the worlds end, and lie in two halves, the one looking West and the other East. He had gone there to accept a hecatomb of sheep and oxen, and was enjoying himself at his festival; but the other gods met in the house of Olympian Jove (Zeus) and the sire of gods and men spoke first. At that moment he was thinking of Aegisthus (Aigisthos), who had been killed by Agamemnon's (GK) son Orestes (GK); so he said to the other gods: "See now, how men lay blame upon us gods for what is after all nothing but their own folly. Look at Aegisthus (Aigisthos); he must need to make love to Agamemnon's wife unrighteously and then kill Agamemnon, though he knew it would be the death of him; for I sent Mercury (Hermes) to warn him not to do either of these things, inasmuch as Orestes would be sure to take his revenge when he grew up and wanted to return home. Mercury (Hermes) told him this in all good will but he would not listen, and now he has paid for everything in full." Then Minerva (Athena) said, "Father, son of Saturn, King of kings, it served Aegisthus (Aigisthos) right, and so it would anyone else who does as he did; but Aegisthus (Aigisthos) is neither here nor there; it is for Ulysses (Odysseus) that my heart bleeds, when I think of his sufferings in that lonely sea-girt island, far away, poor man, from all his friends. It is an island covered with forest, in the very middle of the sea, and a goddess lives there, daughter of the magician Atlas (GK), who looks after the bottom of the ocean, and carries the great columns that keep heaven and earth asunder. This daughter of Atlas (GK) has got hold of poor unhappy Ulysses (Odysseus) and keeps trying by every kind of blandishment to make him forget his home, so that he is tired of life, and thinks of nothing but how he may once more see the smoke of his own chimneys. You, sir, take no heed of this, and yet when Ulysses (Odysseus) was before Troy did he not propitiate you with many a burnt sacrifice? Why then should you keep on being so angry with him?" And Jove (Zeus) said, "My child, what are you talking about? How can I forget Ulysses (Odysseus) than whom there is no more capable man on earth, nor more liberal in his offerings to the immortal gods that live in heaven? Bear in mind, however, that Neptune (Poseidon) is still furious with Ulysses (Odysseus) for having blinded an eye of Polyphemus (GK) king of the Cyclopes. Polyphemus is son to Neptune (Poseidon) by the nymph Thoosa (GK), daughter to the sea-king Phorcys; therefore though he will not kill Ulysses (Odysseus) outright, he torments him by preventing him from getting home. Still, let us lay our heads together and see how we can help him to retuOnomatopoeia: words that sound like what you hear. Find one in the Odyssey. Assonance: a vowel sound within words repeats. Voting Question: If the archeological existence of cities like Jericho proves that the Bible is history and not myth?

... then how come Christians don't believe in Aphrodite and Ares? After all, archeologists found the city of Troy, too, so that proves that the Iliad is historical, by the same line of logic. And the Iliad says that the goddess Aphrodite was wounded by the moral Diomedes when she came to Ares' aid, so I guess Christians are obliged to accept the existence of those gods! more

Resolved Question: How many have the Iliad from cover to cover?

I am a little shocked that some don't believe in the almighy overlord Zeus. It comes from this book see. Book One 1) Invocation and summary of the story of the Illiad: "Sing, goddess, of Achilles ruinous anger Which brought ten thousand pains to the Achaeans, And cast the souls of many stalwart heroes To Hades, and their bodies to the dogs And birds of prey." Lines 1-5 2) Zeus, explaining the absolute power of his will to Thetis, the mother of Achilles: "Nothing can be revoked or said in vain nor unfulfilled if I should nod my head." Lines 526-527 Book Three 3) Hector, rebuking his brother for lack of honor: "Paris, you handsome, woman-mad deceiver, you shouldn't have been born, or killed unmarried. I wish you had-it would have been far better Than having you our shame, whom all suspect, Or having the long-haired Acheans laugh When you appear as champion-champion beauty- But have no strength, nor character, nor courage." Lines 40-45 Book Six 4) Hector, saying farewell to his wife: "No man, against my fate, sends me to Hades'. And as for fate, I'm sure no man escapes it, Neither a good nor bad man, once he's born." Lines 487-489 Book Nine 5) Achilles, questioning the motives for the Trojan war as Odysseus tries to bring him back to the fighting: "But why must the Argives fight the Trojans? Why did Atreus' son assemble and bring us? Wasn't it for Helen's sake? Are Atreus' sons the only men who love their wives?" Lines 336-340 Book Sixteen 6) Patroclus, asking Achilles for permission to join the fighting: '"Give me your armor to put on your shoulders; The Trojans might suppose I was you, Hold back, and give the Acheans' sons a breather, For breathing spells in war are very few. Then, with a shout, fresh men might easily Turn tired men from the ships toward the city." So, like a fool he begged; for it would be An evil death and doom for himself he asked.' Lines 40-47 Book Eighteen 7) Achilles' remorse for his hand in Patroclus death: "I sat by the ships, a useless burden, though there are better in Assembly- so may this strife of men and gods be done with." Lines 104-107 Book Twenty-two 8) Achilles, as he kills Hector: "No more entreating, dog, by knees or parents. I only wish my fury would compel me To cut away your flesh and eat it raw For what you've done. No one can keep the dogs Off of your head, not if they brought me ransom Of ten or twenty times as much, or more." Lines 345-350 Book Twenty-Four 9) Priam, King of Troy, begging for Hector's body: "'Honor the gods, Achilles; pity him. Think of your father; I'm more pitiful; I've suffered what no other mortal has, I've kissed the hand of one who killed my children.' He spoke, and stirred Achilles' grief to tears; He gently pushed the old man's hand away. They both remembered; Priam wept for Hector, Sitting crouched before Achilles' feet. Achilles mourned his father, then again Patroculs, and their mourning stirred the house." Lines 503-513 Achilles: "Don't be angry, Patroclus, if you learn- even though you're in Hades-I gave Hector back to his father for a worthy ransom But I shall give a proper share to you." Resolved Question: long question: how are cities built? 10 points?

Anyone can explain in detail how ancient or modern cities are built? This is what i know. The process of some cities are as such: small settlements slowly grew into villages, which grew into small towns and as population and economy increased, it continued developing till one day it reaches city status. Anyone knows more and can elaborate on this process? For other cities, a city plan was first drawn out, before the roads, transport network, housing, and industrial infrastructure were built. Eg. Sydney's Central Business District has many skyscrapers and architectural styles from the past two centuries (but squeezed into a street plan drawn up in Geogian times). Thus it can be seen that the plan was drawn up first then carried out. But how was the planning done? Did the city planners cut the land into grids, and decide say where the streets would go, where do i put the tallest buildings, which part of the city should the zoo and the police post and the military base go, etc? Lastly, we've all heard about Troy. But the thing that intrigues me a lot about it is the fact that there were NINE cities of Troy, amazingly constructed on top of one another. And we're not just talking about rebuilding the cities, in the documentary that i saw the cities were literally different stratas, layer upon layer. How is that even possible, since foundations for buildings, city walls etc had to be in the ground and not on top of other buildings? Is that the reason why the city kept getting destroyed? I know this is a long and hard question(s), so 10 points for best answer. If no one knows any answers just tell me what this field of study is called, and lead me on the direction to eventually get the answer - that'll count as best answer too. But only if no one knows :) Thanks in advance for all the answers more

Ok, so I do accounting in school and we got this assignment that we have to do. I'm just not too sure what business to do! Here's the gist of it: Michelle and Troy have had a mid-life crisis and have decided to stop teaching, cash in their superannuation of $620,000 and purchase a small hotel on a huge block in the city. They see great potential to expand the hotel into subsidiary sections including a bottle shop, rooms to lease at night and a night club. Because you (me... LOL) have been their accountant for 12 years they seek your advice and justification as to what business structure they should set up. They would prefer a partnership or a company. they are also confused about the different types of public companies that exist and require an explanation as to whether one of these types might be appropriate for them- PARTICULARLY ONE WITH NO LIABILITY, which could be marketed to the lucrative government sector. They present you with the following STRICT criteria. They wish to: 1) create limited exposure to personal assets 2) have them as the only owners/directors 3) have their children join them in a family business 4) seek additional capital in the future to expand, but at the same time maintain complete control of the business 5) employ other staff with different skills when they want to in order to set up the subsidiary businesses. some of these staff may be asked to become partners/shareholders in the future So, I've looked around and there are soooo many businesses to choose from and I really need some help. I've decide how to set up my letter to them and whatever.. I just haven't decided which business would be appropriate for them?? PLEASE please please help!! I swear I will love you forever! thanks so much <3 xoxo"hey" to all you who have answered :)... and thanks well, i looked at those sites and they seem to be for helping ppl looking for a job or something? its not that, i just need like, business structures like: limited liability company (thats one that i was thinking) or something more

Voting Question: Ok here's another Question! The fallen god of war KRATOS vs The Legendary warrior SPARTAN... DUEL TO THE DEATH?

GOD OF WAR Kratos was a warrior who began leadership in the spartan army as a warrior and worked his way up to become a captain commanding a few dozen men. Soon after he commanded thousands, but was way over his head in a battle with tens of thousands of barbarians. Before his death he called out to the god of war to save him and his men! The skies split apart and Ares saved him, only to enslave Kratos as his own servant. Kratos served Ares until, Ares tricked him into killing his own family for his own reasons, Kratos, filled with anger killed the God of War and ascended into Legend as the new god of war. However Zeus betrayed him, and killed him, but Kratos came back and with the help of the Titans he brought down many of the gods only to be betrayed by the titans as well. Soon kratos ended the great war between gods and titans and even killed Zeus. SPARTAN TOTAL WARRIOR The Spartan a man who fears No one but loves his city of Sparta. Resolved Question: Critique on why I didn't like Julius Ceasar....need help! Anything to add or anything to say?

William Shakespeare's play begins with Marullus and Flavius scolding the Roman inhabitants who blindly worship Julius Caesar. They tell the people that their great fear is that Caesar growing too powerful and must be stopped. Soon after, Caesar leads a procession through the streets of Rome . A fortune-teller tells Caesar to be careful of the ides of March. He warns him that he will die on this day. But Caesar pays no attention to the telling. Cassius starts to take on Brutus, a friend of Caesar's, to help kill Caesar, but Brutus becomes suspicious of his intentions. Casca, another conniver, tells Brutus that Cassius fears may be real. To ensure that Brutus joins in the conspiracy, Cassius writes forged letters and places them where Brutus will find them. Brutus finds the letters and joins the plot. Brutus not only helps Caesar to plan the assassination, but also argues against having Mark Antony murdered as well. Mark Antony is a great supporter and the loyal friend of Caesar. Calphurnia, Caesars wives, tells Caesar about her dream. She explains the dream to Caesar, its about somebody killing Caser. Calphurnia tries to convince him to not go to the Senate tomorrow, which is the ides of March. Mean while Brutus hears of Caesar's plans to not go to the Senate and encourage him to go to the Senate and not to look weak. Others like Artemidorus and the soothsayer try to warn Caesar of Brutus, but he fails. The words of the fortune-teller come true and the conspirators kill Caesar, leaving Mark Antony to flew, but orders him to converse at the funeral. Cassius feels it is dangerous, but Brutus tells Antony to speak. Brutus and Cassius gets support from the citizens of Rome and tries to explain why they killed Caesar. On the other hand Mark Antony turns the citizens against Brutus and Cassius by making them feel repentance for Caesar's death. People turn into a mob and go after the conspirators. At the same time Mark Antony and Octavius begin planning their attack on Brutus and Cassius. Mark Antony and Octavius meet up with Brutus and Cassius forces on the plains of Philippi . In the battle Cassius forces lose ground, but Brutus' forces defeats Octavius; but do not help Cassius. After the defeat Cassius kills himself. As the battle goes on Brutus becomes exhausted and tired and rests. Brutus pleads Clitius, Dardanius and Volumius to kill him, but refuse. At last Brutus falls on his own sword, killing himself. Mark Antony pays honor to Brutus by saying, "This was the noblest Roman of them all." One of the things i didn't enjoy about this play was the fact that it was a play. I think plays are harder to read and get my mind into. I did not like the stage direction it just makes the play so plain and is so much different then how i imagine it. Yes there are "Exeunt. Manet BRUTUS" and "Enter PORTIA " but these are during breaks and I find it hard to get back into the action of the story with all these breaks. I also don't like name and their lines like: "PORTIA      Brutus, my lord." I would enjoy these plays a lot more maybe if I saw them acted out but I would rather not read them. Novels are much easier to read and I like them much more. Say if Julius Ceasar was a novel I probably would have really enjoyed it. The characters in this play were different then most characters I have ever read about. This is also a very different time frame for me. I wish there was more about the characters pasts and romes past. When we were reading there was tons of side notes like these "Aeneas: legendary forefather of the roman people who, in Virgil's Aeneid, fled from the burning city of Troy carrying his old father on his back (In many accounts of the legend, Romulus and Remus were descendants of Aeneas)" These side notes were very uninteresting and short and also took my attention away from the script, a lot. If I knew more about Rome and Julius Caesar, Brutus and Cassius I would have been more pleased with this play. My biggest thing about not liking the Julius Caesar play was Shakespeares language and vocabulary. I had a horrible time understanding any of this play. "indeed, it is a strange-disposed time: but men may construe things after their fashion, Clean from the purpose of the things themselves. Comes Caesar to the capitol tomorrow?" If it weren't for our teacher 'translating ' this play to our class I would have been very very lost. I tried to understand this play but i just couldn't. Yes it is in a whole different time and that is probably how their speech was but I need more studing and reading Shakespear. This play was very hard for me to understand. Juluis Caesar was a good beside that it was a play that I didn't enjoy, the characters and their very grim background information. If there was a prologue or some background notes at the beginning that would have been very nice. Also if their h more

Resolved Question: Is this an accurate description of Aeneas's voyage?

Doing a project in History, so I want to make sure that I've got my info correct. Aeneas and the Aeneades leave the burning city of Troy and travel to Italy, but they make many stops in their odyssey. They go to the harbor of Antandros to build ships before they set sail the following year. First they traveled from Troy to Thrace, Delos, Crete, the Strophades Islands, Actium in Acarnania, Bathrotum in Epirus, the Portus Veneris in Apulia, and then on to Italy. Then Aeneas and the Aeneades took the Trojan band from Scylla and Charybdis, in the Straits of Messina, to Drepanum (in Sicily), Libya (Near Carthage), Sicily, Cumae, Caieta, and along the Tyrrhenian Sea coast of Italy to the Tiber. more

Resolved Question: the iliad book 11 and 12 question?

Summary: Book 11 The next morning, Zeus rains blood upon the Achaean lines, filling them with panic; they suffer a massacre during the first part of the day. But, by afternoon, they have begun to make progress. Agamemnon, splendidly armed, cuts down man after man and beats the Trojans back to the city’s gates. Zeus sends Iris to tell Hector that he must wait until Agamemnon is wounded and then begin his attack. Agamemnon soon receives his wound at the hands of Coon, Antenor’s son, just after killing Coon’s brother. The injured Agamemnon continues fighting and kills Coon, but his pain eventually forces him from the field. Hector recognizes his cue and charges the Achaean line, driving it back. The Achaeans panic and stand poised to retreat, but the words of Odysseus and Diomedes imbue them with fresh courage. Diomedes then hurls a spear that hits Hector’s helmet. This brush with death stuns Hector and forces him to retreat. Paris answers the Achaeans’ act by wounding Diomedes with an arrow, thus sidelining the great warrior for the rest of the epic. Trojans now encircle Odysseus, left to fight alone. He beats them all off, but not before a man named Socus gives him a wound through the ribs. Great Ajax carries Odysseus back to camp before the Trojans can harm him further. Hector resumes his assault on another part of the Achaean line. The Greeks initially hold him off, but they panic when the healer Machaon receives wounds at Paris’s hands. Hector and his men force Ajax to retreat as Nestor conveys Machaon back to his tent. Meanwhile, behind the lines, Achilles sees the injured Machaon fly by in a chariot and sends his companion Patroclus to inquire into Machaon’s status. Nestor tells Patroclus about all of the wounds that the Trojans have inflicted upon the Achaean commanders. He begs Patroclus to persuade Achilles to rejoin the battle—or at least enter the battle himself disguised in Achilles’ armor. This ruse would at least give the Achaeans the benefit of Achilles’ terrifying aura. Patroclus agrees to appeal to Achilles and dresses the wound of a man named Eurypylus, who has been injured fighting alongside Ajax. Summary: Book 12 We learn that the Achaean fortifications are doomed to be destroyed by the gods when Troy falls. They continue to hold for now, however, and the trench dug in front of them blocks the Trojan chariots. Undaunted, Hector, acting on the advice of the young commander Polydamas, orders his men to disembark from their chariots and storm the ramparts. Just as the Trojans prepare to cross the trenches, an eagle flies to the left-hand side of the Trojan line and drops a serpent in the soldiers’ midst. Polydamas interprets this event as a sign that their charge will fail, but Hector refuses to retreat. The Trojans Glaucus and Sarpedon now charge the ramparts, and Menestheus, aided by Great Ajax and Teucer, struggles to hold them back. Sarpedon makes the first breach, and Hector follows by shattering one of the gates with a boulder. The Trojans pour through the fortifications as the Achaeans, terrified, shrink back against the ships. i read this summary but its a little hard to understand can i get help more

Resolved Question: [[[[This Name Or That NAME ]]]?

Don't answer if your going say neither or both. Pick one of the other or don't bother answering. Echo or Eisa [IE sah] *Echo is a nymph with many Greek myths attached to her. One says that Zeus used Echo to distract Hera during his adulterous affairs; to punish Echo, who loved the sound of her own voice, Hera rendered her only able to repeat the last words of other people. * Eisa is of uncertain meaning borne in Norse mythology by one of the two daughters of Loki and his first wife, Glut. The name might mean "glowing embers". Eira [EYE-rah] or Elektra * Eira is a scandinavian place name, from the Norse Goddess Eir, the Goddess of medecine and healing. By Norse tradition, only women practiced the healing arts. Eira is a district in Helsinki, the capital of Finland. * In Greek mythology Elektra was a daughter of King Agamemnon of Mycenae and his wife Clytemnestra. The king 'killed' her sister, Iphigeneia, in order to please the goddess Artemis so his ships could sail to Troy. The Queen, Clytemnestra, swore to never forgive him. When the King returned from the sacked city of Troy with his new slave and mistress Cassandra, Clytemnestra and her lover Aigisthos killed them both in cold blood. Elektra then aided her only brother Orestres to flee and later return to avenge their father's death. Gaia[GYE ah]or Hera? * Gaia means Earth * Hera was the queen of the ancient Greek pantheon. She was the wife of Zeus and the goddess of marriage, childbirth and the home. Her name is often taken to mean simply 'lady', but it may be from the older Herwa, meaning 'protectress'. Hera is also a Maori form of the name Sarah. Hinawai [HEE neh wye]or Idonea [ee DOH nee ah] *Hinawai~ Sister of Hinepukohurangi, a maiden who took the form of fine rain. * Idonea ~ means to renew nature and Idonea is the Germanic equivalent of the Nordic goddess Iðunnr. Kassiopeia [kass ee OH pey uh] or Kiyo [KEE yo]? * In Greek mythology Kassiopeia was the wife of the Ethiopian king Cepheus and the mother of Andromeda. She was known for her vanity. After being turned to stone by Perseus she was placed in the sky as a constellation by Poseidon. * Princess Kiyo (Kiyo-hime) is a character of Japanese folklore of a rejected maiden who turned into a dragon. Leto [LEE toe] or Leda [LEY dah]? *In Greek mythology, Leto is a daughter of the Titans Coeus and Phoebe, and mother of Apollo and Artemis. *In Greek mythology, she hatched two eggs (by Zeus in the shape of a swan) which became Clytemnestra and Helen (who became Helen of Troy), Castor and Pollux Naida or Nixie? I tried looking for it, but i dont understand this book at all or what their talking about. Help!! Many cities of men he saw and learned their minds, many pains he suffered, heartsick on the open sea, fighting to save his life and bring his comrades home. But he could not save them from disaster, hard as he strove— the recklessness of their own ways destroyed them all, the blind fools, they devoured the cattle of the Sun and the Sungod blotted out the day of their return. Launch out on his story, Muse, daughter of Zeus, start from where you will—sing for our time too. more

Resolved Question: What do you think of my Mock Draft (rate it)?

1. Rams – Ndamukong Suh, DT Nebraska – Arguably the best defensive player in the history of college football. Unfortunately, this is the last time you hear his name as he falls into the inglorious black hole of mediocrity known as St. Louis. Other than that, I love the team. 2. Lions – Dez Bryant, WR Oklahoma State – After realizing that bad publicity is better than no publicity, the Lions revert to the Matt Millen Era of drafting 4 receivers in 5 years. Meanwhile Detroit fans wonder why they aren’t Browns fans. Oh yeah. Nevermind. 3. Bucs – Gerald McCoy, DT Oklahoma – I have nothing bad to say about the guy. Mainly because he is right behind me and can easily beat me up, or at the very least pay someone to do it for him. Does that work for ya, Gerald? Good. 4. Redskins – Jimmy Clausen, QB Notre Dame – Danny Boy continues Washington’s string of drafting bad quarterbacks in the first round. Welcome to an elite fraternity, Jimmy. Somehow I don’t think Heath Shuler, Patrick Ramsey, and Jason Campbell are sipping champagne on his behalf. 5. Chiefs – Eric Berry, S Tennessee – He is considered the best safety since Ed Reed and Troy Polamalu. Unfortunately, the Chiefs still finish the season 4-12. 6. Seahawks – Sam Bradford, QB Oklahoma – The Seahawks exchange a 35-year old quarterback with a quarterback that has shoulders of a 35-year old. How could that possibly fail? 7. Browns – Russell Okung, OT Oklahoma State – Since I’m relatively positive that no one actually cares about this pick, I’m going to use this time to say that I’m pretty sure Bernie from “Weekend at Bernie’s” works out at my gym. Seriously. Dead likeness. Sorry, I had to tell someone. 8. Raiders – Drew Butler, P Georgia – After reading a blog on the internet, Al Davis is convinced that field position is the ultimate factor into winning in the NFL. Who better to do that than this past year’s Ray Guy Award winner? Ray Guy…former Raiders punter. Butler…the Ray Guy Award winner. Coincidence? Of course not. 9. Bills – Anthony Davis, OT Rutgers – Confession #1: I have no idea who Anthony Davis is. Confession #2: I had no idea the city of Buffalo still had a football team. My soul is now cleansed. Okay then…moving on… 10. Broncos (from Chicago Bears) – Rolando McClain, LB Alabama – This pick was acquired in the trade that sent Jay Cutler to Chicago for Kyle Orton. Let’s be honest. A bag of Cheetos would be a better pick here than keeping Cutler, so anything more and you’ve scored gold. The Broncos, as expected, don’t go with the bag of chips and draft the best linebacker in college football last year instead. 11. Jaguars – Tim Tebow, QB Florida – This is solely a pick to help sell tickets. I mean, after all, the city of Jacksonville couldn’t even sell out the Super Bowl. No word if Planned Parenthood is editing an anti-Tebow video for their website. Meanwhile, head coach Jack Del Rio wonders why he didn’t take the USC coaching job. One word, Jack: Probation. 12. Dolphins – Dan LeFevour, QB Central Michigan – Bill Parcells decides to build an offense around the rare Triple Wildcat formation all while gaining the impressive distinction of using a high draft pick on a QB in 4 consecutive years. Miami still finishes 8-8 and misses the playoffs. 13. 49ers – Joe Haden, CB Florida. Does anyone else miss the Niners’ glory days of Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Ronnie Lott, Roger Craig, Steve Young...I really could go on forever…Ken Norton, Dwight Clark, John Taylor, Eric Davis, Merton Hanks…? 14. Seahawks – Joe McKnight, RB USC – Not realizing he is no longer a college coach, Pete Carroll gets in a recruiting war with LSU over the services of Joe McKnight. Carroll’s mistake is McKnight’s gain as he gets a lucrative deal worth millions more than what he deserves. Far less than what he made at USC. 15. Giants – C.J. Spiller, RB Clemson – Carroll’s mistake is New York’s gain as they draft the most electrifying running back in college football. No need to fear, Pete. Tom Coughlin will sap the fun out of his game by the preseason. 16. 49ers – Bryan Bulaga, OT Iowa – Don’t be surprised to see the 49ers trade this pick to the Saints for overpaid Reggie Bush, making it the Gore-Bush backfield. Sadly, this joke came 10 years too late. Better late than never. 17. Titans – Everson Griffen, DE USC – Owner Bud Adams makes the bold claim of “All we need is another weapon for Vince Young and we will win the Super Bowl.” He then flips off the fans and drafts a defensive end. Makes sense to me. 18. Steelers – Brian Price, DT UCLA – Word on the street is Price is the best UCLA Bruin since Cade McNown. Oh dear Lord! 19. Falcons – Earl Thomas, S Texas – Some experts think he could make the Pro Bowl as a rookie. Let me see, Justin Smith: Pro Bowler. Terence Newman: Pro Bowler. David Garrard: Pro Bowler. Quintell Mickell: Pro Bowler. are people in this section that stupid? This question is an attempt at humour, but I guess some people just dont see it. more

Resolved Question: How would you translate this from Latin to English?

"Arma virumque cano,"*--- his (these, abl. pl.) verbis Vergilius (nom., sing., 2nd declension) suam poemam de (about) originibus (origins, abl. pl) Romae incipit. Mox magni venti navigia Aeneae* spargunt. Deinde navigium Aeneae* et Achatis* terram tangit. Sed, ubi sunt, nesciunt (they do not know). Venus suum filium, Aeneam*, amat, itaque magnum Iovem (Jupiter, acc. sing.) de (about) fato (fate) Aeneae* rogat. Iuppiter* tum dicit, "Dea, noli terrere* , Fata* immota (unmoved) manent. Tuus filius erit tutus , et Aeneae* imperium perpetuum donabo.” Tum Aeneas* et Achates* terram novam explorant. Deinde Aeneas* sociis dicit, "Tenete animum. I've started translating what I could here's what I have so far..... “I sing of arms and a man” - with these words Virgil (Vergilius) begins his poem about the origins of Rome. The wars are not only the famous Trojan war but also (the) wars in Italy, the man is Aeneas, who was called by the gods from Troy to a new city, "New Troy". After Troy counting from Greece * Arma virumque cano. - I sing of arms and a man. (These are the first three words of Vergil's Aeneid, you are reading REAL Latin!) * “de originibus Romae” – about the origins of Rome * Aeneas – the name of the famous Trojan who came to Italy and whose descendents founded the Roman state. Aeneas is the nominative form of his name. All other forms of his name will have first declension endings. * Achates was Aeneas’ “right hand man”. Achatis is genitive. * “Iuppiter” is the nominative form of Jupiter (Jupiter only has on “p” in English). * “Noli terrere” – do not fear * Fata, orum – the Fates (the Romans believed that the Fates controlled everyone’s history.) * “Hold onto your spirits. And perhaps one day it will be pleasing to have remembered these things.” (Another famous quote from the Aeneid!) * “Didonis” is the genitive form of Dido. She was the queen of Carthage in North Africa. She, like Aeneas, fled with her allies from her homeland. more

Resolved Question: help with topic of my history project?

It has to be about the trojan war because i told my teacher thats what i would write about. But, i am having trouble narrowing down my topic. I have to try to prove something with 3 main points, and 3 sub-points. The example my teacher gave us was "is the shroud of torin really the burial cloth of jesus". I have to find something related to the Trojan war, or city of troy, to use as my topic. Please, please, pleaseee help! I dont have a lot of time and im having a lot of difficulty picking a topic.no no no, i know that the shroud of torin didn't have anything to do with the war. Our essays can be about anything, and i was using the argument for the shroud of torin being real as an example. My essay, however, has to be about the trojan war because i already cleared it with my teacher. more
