Voting Question: How do you pick which movie to see?

Either in the theater or on DVD or on cable. Is it by the media attention, reviews, friend told you to see it, actors/actresses, director, story line, something else? Just wondering. What makes you see a movie over another movie? Reviews are nothing to me. I'm a natural critic and I see them for myself. No one tells me to see a movie or not to see a movie...I see it if want or don't want to. Since the Oscars being on tv tonight just thought I'd ask the people who make those Hollywood peeps...very rich...I like all movies....I like Comedy, Drama, Horror, Action, Adventure, Interest, Animated, Independent films, foreign films. I tend to see movies based on the actor that I like or director and some movies I see if there of interest to me by the story line. more

I wanted to get the original Clash of the Titans (1981) on DVD but read some reviews and overall the consensus is that the quality of the DVD transfer is REALLY bad. But then I heard that they were doing a new version of the DVD and I was hoping the transfer might be better. Does anyone know when this new DVD version might be coming out? Since the release of the remake (the one with Sam Worthington) is on the horizon, I was hoping it might be soon. Thanks!I should clarify; I love the old movie, saw it as a kid and want a DVD copy of it. That being said, I don't want to buy a copy of the DVD that is a poor transfer, if they are going to release a newer DVD of the old movie, with a better transfer. So I am wondering if anyone heard about a "newly digitized version" of the 1981 film is set for release anytime soon. I was wondering, if anyone perhaps knew the name of the program which is required to make a "movie" out of episodes. For instance; The X Files has "x" number of episodes and what program is required to glue them all together and cut the reviews and the opening theme out? And also, which program is appropriate to burn some series onto a DVD (could Nero be sufficient?) and will it work if the "movie" or "glued series" are configured so they use less disc space and could it be run in a DVD player? xD I would very much appreciate some help and it would be great if someone could answer all of the questions. I'm the account holder. We get 2 DVDs at a time. I'd like to make 2 profiles- one for myself and one for my husband so we can each choose a movie at a time, rate and review movies our own way, etc... ----------------------------------- 2 questions, if you can help out: ----------------------------------- 1) Just to be clear on this before I set up any profiles at all... the account holder can still access the instant play feature, right? Would it be Owner, member 1 and then member 2's preferences? Also... 2) When I began adding my own personal profile, I was already listed on that page as Owner. Do I already have a profile I don't know about or would these be two different types of profiles? With the Owner profile, there's no password to go through or avatar picture option shown. So, I am a first time computer builder, and my rig is aimed for gaming. My budget is pretty much $700 - $800 for the pc and accessories like the keyboard, but not including monitor (someone else is paying) and speakers (already have/will be using headphones instead), and will likely be reduced to Ubuntu with WINE to play games (those I wish to are gold/platinum rated) until I can work more moneys up for an os (Windows 7 64 bit - why oh why do you cost ~$110?!) I just watched "The Pursuit of Happyness" on DVD. What a great & inspiring movie. Based on a true story about a father that worked hard & struggled to get himself & his son out of poverty. He eventually became a multi-millionaire. The thing is, everyone already knows that mothers go through this. We're told this everyday through the media and our culture. But the one time a good father is recognized, this angers her? Then she derides the father's strategy and says "a mother would've worked two jobs!" As if this is some kind of competition between mothers & fathers. It appears that this feminist woman is jealous & bitter that a man is being recognized as being a good parent. I can't think of one good reason why anyone would be angry about a father working hard & taking care of his son.True Brit: Are you (and the woman that did the review) trying to say that there haven't been any movies about struggling mothers doing good? They have greatly outnumbered the movies about struggling fathers. What I find to be selfish of women who share the view of the reviewer, is that despite the countless movies about struggling mothers, you can't accept ONE movie about a struggling father. Voting Question: Why can't I take pictures of a video image in a player?

Okay, so I'm writing a review on a show that I'm watching on the computer (Flash Forward, epic, btw), and I need pictures. I have DVD-quality video files, and they are clean and crisp looking. They are an enjoyable watch, but I can't take pictures of them. Like, whenever I take a picture of the video while it's playing, it just takes a picture of the black background of the player. I have an idea as to why, but I just want to know how I can fix this. Thank you.I like Franks idea. Because, see, it's a 45 minute or so episode. Having to hit prnt scrn every time I get the shot, and then going to paint, having to copy it and save it and stuff would just take too long. It would kind of take the enjoyment out of it. I want to be a music journalist and I'm just trying to get some experience now by writing on this blog. If you have any suggestions on how I could make this better, please tell me. I enjoy your criticism!!!(: This pop punk quartet from Baltimore, Maryland certainly do not dissapoint on this acoustic set, recorded at the MTV studios. The live concert, which can be purchased as a DVD/CD pack at your local record store was released shortly after the band put out their third studio album, Nothing Personal. Their performance is compromised of six songs and on the DVD, you can see that these guys leave their audience absolutely mesmorized. Though they start off their set with the ever catchy Damned If I Do Ya (Damned If I Don’t) which proves to pump the crowd up as they put emphasis on the Go! part of the chorus. These boys travel back to their roots as they bring us the lovely melodies which accompany Their So Wrong It’s Right tracks, like, Coffee Shop Soundtrack (which depicts an affair that vocalist Gaskarth had with a married woman) and Remembering Sunday (which gives us a surprise as Kate Voegele performs Juliet Simm’s part beautifully). Also off this album, proven to quite the crowd favourite is Jasey Rae. I have to admit, that this track just may sound better when performed acoustic. The passion that is expressed during this song may be the exact reason why. Following Jasey is Weightless, the turn around point in the Nothing Personal album which lifted Gaskarth out of writer’s block and is considered probably the most sucessful track on the album. What would a All Time Low performance be without a little Dear Maria? To wrap up thier performance, the band close with a classic (as far as the underground alt-rock scene is concerned) Dear Maria Count Me In. Their is hope in the final words that say “There’s a story at the bottom of this bottle”, something that is coincidentally proved in practically all All Time Low songs. Fact is, All Time Low always has a story to tell, whether it be about strippers, married woman, breaking out, or simply falling in over your head for love. This is a characteristic that helps them shine and rise above the numerous groups that so enviously strive to emulate them. There is no doubt in my mind that the future holds great promises for All Time Low. more

Resolved Question: Need to upgrade our family vehicle to a VAN or SUV but I am exhausted with so much to choose from. HELP!?

We have a 2004 PT Cruiser that gets the job done, but may be getting a little too cramped for our family of 4 which will be 5 soon. I think we could even fit all the children in the back seat, but the idea of two of our children being up against the door in their car seats terrifies me if there was a side crash. I have been searching and researching vans and SUV's, but there are so many to choose from. Most of our research have been done on the internet, but we have test driven a few Town and Country vans that I really liked. But once I got home and looked at reviews online, I was back at square one because their reviews were not that favorable. I NEVER thought it would take soooo much into upgrading a family vehicle. here's what we are looking for in our upgrade (also, please tell us what we may need as we may not know) The ability to seat 5 with good cargo space for groceries in the rear as well as to store baby strollers and bags, etc for in and out of town travel. Great safety features such as front and side air bags (an anything else im missing). Great safety for children ages 4 and under (we have a 3 yr old, a 17 mo old and new baby due soon) if van, at least one (electronic?) sliding door if suv or crossover, easy to get 3 small children in and out especially when my husband's not around I dont really care about dvd entertainment etc as that can easily be upgraded after sale for less. I would love to commentate on F1 but where do I begin? I have been watching F1 since 1995, when I was 8 and have been hooked ever since. After doing enough research I have figured that I do want a LCD rather then plasma..I have a loft with many window..I have heard & read enough reviews that state LCD would be better and have less glare for my brightly lit (natural light) living room. I've also heard/read about plasma not being so good when used with gaming systems..something about image can burn to screen? more

Voting Question: What is the difference likely to be between a "Games for Laptop" game and the standard PC...?

...version of the same game?Atari Games are releasing "Games for Laptop: Chris Sawyer's Locomotion (PC)" on 27th March in the UK. However, there is already available, and has been for some time "Chris Sawyer's Locomotion (PC CD)".A number of other similar games are being released by Atari Games on the same date which are also designated "Games for Laptop" and which also already have PC versions which have been on release for some time.I wondered if it would either be a marketing ploy, or if it would be easier on the hardware, but it seems the opposite:the "old" version is on CD, whereas the "laptop" one is on DVD, the old one wants 500MHz processor, 128MB RAM and 85MB HDD and just a Windows compatible video card, whereas the laptop one requires 1GHz of processor, 512MB RAM, 2.5Gb HDD and 64Mb video card.Will these versions have more powerful graphics or something - maybe 3D? Are there any reviews, or pre-release details? I can only find the ones I've quoted, which are on Amazon. more

The G530 Lenovo on sale has the following specs: 3GB Memory, 160 GB HD, Intel GMA 4500M Graphics Card, 64 bits, DVD optical drive (does this mean CD's, too?). I want to do light graphic work, desktop publishing, downloading my pictures from my digital camera, plus the usual stuff. Oh, it's an Intel Dual Core Processor. Asus and Acer One, also on sale, are both supposed to be okay, but I'm not sure of the specs - similar, though. And I've heard good things about the Acer One netbooks, and know nothing about the notebooks. Dell and Toshiba might be on sale as well. more

Voting Question: Any ideas of which is the best buy for a laptop, preferably under the $600 range?

I'm looking to get a laptop for basics as surfing the Internet, watching DVD's, listening to music, but most important, for the possibility of doing light graphics and desktop publishing - Quark XPress, etc. The Lenovo G530 T4400 is on sale for under $400.- The specs seem okay, but I'm not an expert. Experience tells me that with a shelf life of 3-4 years, it's not worth investing a lot. This does have an Intel Dual Core Processor, and supposedly a 64 bit chip. My other choice would be an Asus computer from Best Buy, which garnished lots of good customer reviews - one really terrible one that complained about the computer's components being of poor quality and breaking down, but that was one review. It's a tad more expensive than the Lenovo. Asus does supposedly manufacture the parts for all the laptops, but surprisingly has some poor quality components, like the mouse pad, LCD display (I think), and speakers - the latter is irrelevant since even my Sony never had strong ones. Any advice would be of help. Sales end shortly. more

I've read a lot of questions on here from people asking for the Answers community to review their writing, and I thought "what the heck, I'll see what they think of mine." FYI, I am 18 and a high school student. This is the beginning of a short story. The ivory paper card, embossed with gold flowers and printed with silver and gold letters in a highly embellished script, lay on the coffee table in front of us, between the remote controls for the cable box and the DVD player. Michael was staring at me with an aggrieved look, waiting for my reaction. His hair was disheveled from having his fingers shoved through it many times, and he was red in the face and fidgeting with his hands, just barely managing not to pace about the room if the agitated movements of his feet were any indication. “Well…I suppose it certainly is unexpected,” I said carefully, with an attempt at diplomacy. “Unexpected?! Unexpected!” Michael shrieked. Clearly diplomacy was failing. “Um--” “UNEXPECTED!” “Michael sweetie, could you calm down maybe a little?” I asked. “It’s not the end of the world.” “Oh YES it is!” All restraint faded away and he got up from the couch to pace around dramatically, gesticulating with his hands and running them through his hair again. Well, it was hard to blame him for being surprised, though it would have been nice if he had responded by laughing over the irony of the situation instead of completely blowing up. “Michael, it was five years ago,” I pointed out, standing up. “It could have been fifty years ago, and this would still not be okay!” he insisted, coming to a stop in front of me. I put an arm around him. “Michael, I know, okay? I don’t like it any more than you do, but maybe there’s a bright side?” I suggested, pushing his hair back from his forehead with my free hand. “A bright side to my sister marrying someone who I went out with for three years before he dumped me? And what would that be, Nathan?” he demanded. “Well,” I reasoned. “Whenever two people you don’t like get married at least you know two families won’t be ruined, and instead of having to live with either of them you get to live with me. Isn’t that nice?” “But Joel was MY boyfriend! And now he’s marrying my SISTER!” “Well, now you know why it didn’t work out between you. He was really straight all along, so now he’s…fallen in love with the female version of you.” “I’m nothing like my sister.” (Note: the main difference between Michael and his sister Daphne, besides the obvious fact that they are of different genders, is that her hair is curlier. And that includes personality.) “Doesn’t really change the basic point,” I said, thinking it best not to argue with his assertion. “That after dumping me cold, he thinks it’s okay to marry my sister?!” “Um…no. That he’s probably just more into girls anyway.” “So I’m…what? Feminine enough that straight guys who waver slightly like me?” “Either that or your sister’s kinda manly. Maybe he was going for a more butch version of you?” That got a half smile out of Michael, who dropped his head to my shoulder with a sigh. “I didn’t even know they were dating,” he said petulantly. “I know,” I said soothingly, running my fingers through his hair. “And now I have to go to the wedding. And watch him to swear to stay with my sister for better or worse.” “You could stay home.” “And he said he was gonna love me forever!” Michael whined. “And I’ll have to buy presents for the baby shower--the baby shower, Nathan! My ex and my sister are going to have children!
