Hello I am a computer technician at my local computer repair shop ad we recently got a customer that came in with the conplaint that everything he saved into his documents was being deleted. I know that typically viruses don't "delete" files as much as hide them. What I'm wondering is if there is a new virus out that is deleting files like this. We are going to transfer our virus removal tools via flash drive because we refuse to connect it to our network just incase. If any of you could supply me with this information it would be appreciated. Thanks moreResolved Question: Possible virus in my xp laptop?
Okay here's my problem: 2 weeks ago i was surfing the web when i was redirected to a red and white page that said i had a trojan virus and two other virus in my computer from essentials security or security essentials (i have a windows xp laptop) and it said to click this link button to remove virus(i only use google chrome) so i clicked it but it started to download something (you know how google chrome does it by downloading it, then you have to open it up, then install). So when i saw you had to download something i immediately exited it out and restarted my laptop. When i turned it back on i started surfing the web again like normal and nothing was different than before i got the virus pop-up in the first place. So i went back to my college after spring break and start using the internet there( yes it is connected right and everything) however before all my videos use to load really fast but now it takes a full 40 minutes to load videos from other sites instead of youtube (before it didn't do that just loaded really quick) and when i do use youtube instead it loads slow or it only loads half way then i have to stop the video when i get to the halfway point and wait for it to load again for 5 more minutes with a long video it takes 10 minutes to get to the halfway point ( before it didn't do that just loaded quickly). -Okay that was long . Now my question is do i have a virus or not because i really have no idea since yesterday the whole city had a 30 second black out, i don't know if the changed the internet here (looks like they didn't), and if i do have a good (guaranteed) virus removal program can you recommend; 1 good virus removal program since i don't like downloading stuff since i don't want to mess my computer up even more and i don't want to pay for something that i can use for free. I just need one since i had my last computer for 4 years and never downloaded a virus removal program before since i never had this problem- i have it now however since i let my brother us it for 2 days because he won a bet i stupidly made and i have no idea what he went on when he had my computerOkay i don't know where to post this question since this is my first time using this and i didn't see a selection for virus removal.-Please help!!P.P.S. I use windows xp and i don't use internet explorer or mozilla firefox since i only like to use google chrome and i have microsoft windows xp professional version 2002 Service pack 3, i actually have gotten this pop up before last year but since i could just press the back button and it would take me back to the page i was at before and then let me continue browsing with any problems or issues (got no slow internet then, no strange pop ups, or anything) so i just forgot about it since i thought it was a ad or something, and no im not being redirected to different pages yet everything is loading to where i want it to load and with google chrome you don't have toolbars just tabs and i'm not getting any strange ones as of yet, however all my videos are still loading extremely slow. moreResolved Question: My External Hard disk got attacked by the Autorun virus What to do?? Well, it looks as though I've gotten myself into a spot of bother with malware. I've tried numerous times to get rid of some trojans, hiding as useless game apps and toolbars, which I wouldn't ever have need for anyway. I used Malwarebytes, and that cleared around 40 items up, and after re-scanning there was nothing. But when I go into program files, there's obviously still a few there, which I always attempt to remove manually. The problem is, it seems to be reappearing. So there's obviously something I'm missing. Also, my Hotmail account is sending and receiving spam. But after getting rid of some of the malware, it slowed down, so now I seem to only get around 1-3 spam emails every four days or so. Obviously the ideal thing to do is just change the password, which I tried, but I think it's a bit of a shot in the dark until the malware is taken care of. Any advice is appreciated really, hopefully can get this sorted. Thanks. moreResolved Question: Internet virus help!?

Actually, And quite recently, I purchased the Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 for my Windows 8 Single-Language laptop. Now, I'm currently am having this strange problem. I seem to be having to update the databases like almost every day. Why doesn't it update it's own self? I have set the pdate mode to 'By Schedule' to Every 1 Hour but that does not seem to solve the issue I am now facing. Even when I leave it, It says, Databases have not been updated for a long time and the new database release date was like the day before yesterday when I just updated it yesterday! If I leave it for another day: It will read., Databases are obsolete, And the computer security is at risk. Currently, I still have 340 days left before the so-called 'license' expires. I am now regretting about buying this worldwide known Kaspersky. For another desktop, I had used BitDefender and it was very good. For my other laptop, I used Norton, and that was the best I had used so far. What kinda antivirus solution is this? Requiring me to update every single day. Why doesn't it update automatically? Like my BitDefender and Norton did. Anybody know what issue I am now currently facing with? And how do I change the setting so it updates automatically? Another one, the date and time settings are correct, so it can't be that which is causing all this trouble. Please, I hope somebody can help me solve this problem ONCE AND FOR ALL. I'm getting Norton next that's for sure. Unlesss this problem can be solved. moreResolved Question: How can I get rid of *.crossrider.com from my computer?
Since last weekend I have been getting popup ads in the lower right and left hand corners of my webpages. I found instructions to remove allowed popups in my popup blocker which initially had about five or six different sites but the *.crossrider.com consistently comes back after it is deleted. I then got Microsoft Security Essentials which I found in an article states that it can get rid of malware. It found a Trojan and got rid of it but the *.crossrider.com persists. I've read various things about this with some saying it is a virus and/or spyware. I tried finding a removal tool that would get rid of this specific virus and am having difficulty selecting one that I could trust. If anyone knows of some kind of malware or spyware removal tool that will get rid of *.crossrider.com, please tell me. Thanks. The following is for the people at *.crossrider who often respond to these questions in here. We know you are just trying to make yourselves look good or give the impression your software is something trustworthy and have made comments that it isn't a virus. Any program that is so insidious that it attaches itself through another program to someone's computer without there consent and that will not allow the computer owner to remove it, is a VIRUS. Even if it isn't spyware or able to do extensive damage, it is a form of malicious advertising (at the very least) that is constantly invading the computer owner's use of the internet and trying to force incessant commercials down the computer owner's throat. It is a malicious program. Stop trying to sweeten people up. It won't work. In response to your repeated postings to people seeking advice on how to get rid of this virus: "1. Go to your task manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESCAPE) and click End Process if you still see the Crossrider process there." YOU NEVER SEE ANYTHING IN ANY OF THE LISTINGS ON THE VARIOUS TABS THAT SAYS "CROSSRIDER" SO THAT THE COMPUTER OWNER CANNOT FIND IT AND DELETE IT. "2. Close all IE instances (all IE windows). 3. Try again to uninstall Crossrider from the Control Panel's your Add/Remove Programs." THERE IS NO LISTING FOR ANYTHING SAYING "CROSSRIDER" IN THE ADD/REMOVE PROGRAM LISTING CONVENIENTLY SO THAT THE COMPUTER OWNER CANNOT REMOVE IT. " 4. Go to your Program Files directory and check if the CrossriderWebApps directory exists. If its still there delete it *completely*." AGAIN, THERE IS NO LISTING IN THE PROGRAM FILES TO BE ABLE TO LOCATE IT. " 5. Now, after it was deleted remove it (again) from your windows startup using msconfig." THERE IS NOTHING IN THE SYSTEM CONFIGURATION SERVICES LISTING CALLED CROSSRIDER.COM TO BE ABLE TO DISABLE IT AT STARTUP. IN FACT, THE ONLY PLACE I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FIND IT IS IN MY POPUP BLOCKER WHICH AFTER I HAVE REPEATEDLY DELETED IT, IT JUST KEEPS COMING BACK. Here is a video for less experienced users who might encounter the same issue as you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZnbfcAKl… THE VIDEO DOES NOT HAVE SOUND AND THE VISUAL IS VAGUE. THE VIDEO AND INSTRUCTIONS ARE USELESS. "Restart your computer, and everything should be OK now. Hope this information was helpful for you :) Shmueli Ahdut, Crossrider's CTO" You keep coming in here posting the same useless information as a form of giving yourselves a good online image of some caring company. Please do not bother to respond here.Shmueli, I've gotten viruses in the past that instruct me to purchase something from them to get rid of it. Why would I want help from the people who caused the problem in the first place? When I look in my add/remove programs, there is NOTHING that was downloaded in the month of December. This did not get onto my computer through another program. It just appeared about a week ago and will not go away. It is a VIRUS and I do not want help from the people who caused it. moreResolved Question: Is this a good product for removal of malware (ransomware)?

Here is my first question for reference:http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ArGwYUOe8Vuz1dgaN4kJri4azKIX;_ylv=3?qid=20121217200535AAHs8w2 Upon completing a bit of research and consulting some friends, it appears this maybe happening because I have some sort of virus, but specifically a "trojan". This would explain why my computer won't run any .exe files and is running a bit slower than usual. After this realization I tried to download Avast to at least confirm this suspicion, but I obviously couldn't install it due to my inability to open any .exe files. So my questions are, how do I confirm that I do indeed have a virus and how would I eliminate it from my laptop? Thanks in advance for any help on the matter. moreResolved Question: why can't i remove media finder?

So just today I got alerts from AVG saying they detected that virus on my computer. I kept clearing them up using AVG, but they keep popping up again. So I look up on how to erase this virus completely, and was surprised to find that this is a fairly new virus floating around. Anyways, when they told me to go to task manager and find random.exe, I couldn't find this file! So I think of system restore and restore it back a little bit before I got this virus. (I also went into safe mode with networking while system restoring btw). So my laptop is officially restored, and I don't have any popups about the virus anymore. Although I am extremely paranoid and it now. Especially since many of the sites I went to said the hackers could get into my passwords or even credit card information! Have any combated this virus yet? Anybody knowledgeable? I am still not sure if it's in my laptop still or not, so anything can help if anyone knows how to fully remove it. A month ago I downloaded a program called 'VideoPad', which I thought was safe, but ever since Ads won't stop popping up every 3 minutes or so. They come up as whole pages, and no matter what I do they won't go away. I've removed cookies, deleted my browser history, moved from Firefox to Google Chrome, deleted suspicious files, and all that- but nothing works! I have 2012 Norton Internet Security, and I've done dozens of scans and live updates, but nothing comes up as unsafe or untrusted. Another really suspicious thing is that for about a week or two, Norton has come up a few times saying that a malicious Trojan of high danger has tried to hack into my system. I've searched everywhere, but I have no idea what to do! I've read many times that I should download Spybot, but does that work well with Norton? What can I do to get it back?
Sorry, I know this is long, but I'm not sure which details are important and which are not. Several days ago I got 4 messages from my virus protection saying threats had been detected. Two were Trojan Horses, and two simply said malware had been blocked. The messages also said no further action on my part was needed. Unfortunately these warnings repeatedly popped up whether I was online or not. I tried shutting down and restarting several times to no avail. At some point it began freezing after going to the welcome screen record time frozen on the welcome screen is 3 hours. Dug out my user manual, and figured out how to run a diagnostic which said there is nothing wrong with my computer, but it continued to freeze on "welcome" found that sometimes I could get in by hitting F12. Then one day I flinched, and for all lack of a better description double clicked on F12. Now my user account shows up, and seems to accept my password, goes to the welcome screen, then just when it looks like it's going to go into my account it says "logging off' and returns to the screen with all 3 accounts on it. Again I apologize for the length of this question (sad story?) moreResolved Question: I downloaded some songs from a Flash Drive and now I have duplicate folders and it says I have a Trojan Droppe?
Like the question says, I downloaded some songs from a Flash drive and now every folder in my computer has a duplicate with nothing in it. When I click the new folder it takes me to Libraries and then a screen pops up saying the program is not responding. I ran the Maleware and it said I have a Trojan dropper. I clear it out, but it keeps coming back. Should I delete all the new folders and run the maleware again or what? moreResolved Question: How to get rid of Cash Crate Toolbar? Help!?
I have firefox. I killed the 'add on' and it's still there!!! Grr..it is so annoying. moreResolved Question: What's wrong with my laptop?
The other day I was on the internet and follow a seemingly harmless link. It brings me to an obvious spam- and virus-riddled website and my program that catches and stops viruses told me it blocked a trojan successfully and that the threat was removed. I turn off my computer and turn it on the next day and it works fine. Then I turn it off again a few hours later, turn it back on at a friends house. My desktop screen loaded, but just barely and then all of a sudden the screen goes white and (though there's no option to minimize or exit the window), text loads saying it couldn't connect to the internet and that I'm not connected. I didn't try to get on the internet; the program, whatever it is, was starting on its own. I wasn't connected to the internet because I hadn't yet tried to connect to my friend's wifi. What program could be doing this? Is it a virus? How can I get rid of it if it doesn't let me exit the screen? I opened the task manager and it didn't find anything that was running so I don't know what to do or how to even navigate my computer at this point. Please help. Should I just get everything wiped off it? I mean it was sort of slow to begin with...It's not letting me even access any toolbars or do ctrl+shift+delete to clear the cache moreResolved Question: In need of Computer Wiz: Computer Virus or Another Problem?
When I was updating my laptop, my antivirus software (Mcafee) detected a trojan. So my updates failed and I had to scan my laptop for more malware. Turns out I had 6 trojans and they all got deleted. I tried updating my windows laptop again and it failed again saying that I got malware on my computer, code FFFFFFFE (this is what I read on the windows support forum). I scanned my laptop again with Mcafee and there were no threats. I tried to update again and it failed again with code FFFFFFFE. I was thinking of running the scan again but with higher sensitivity (before I used low sensitivity). I scanned it again with medium sensitivity, but my laptop gave me a blue screen and restarted itself. This happened before when I scanned and I looked it up online and I read a post saying that some programs do that to mcafee. So what should I do? The blue screen did say that some program may have not been installed correctly and I also read that the code FFFFFFFE can also meant that too, but my windows 7 was installed by professionals, not by me.*sigh* too bad getting another antivirus system isn't an option for me.******ok, I think I have the option of downloading malwarebytes, BUT when I tried to I got a warning saying that malwarebytes is on a list of potential dangers and that it may carry a virus. Is this normal to get seeing how I can potentially have a virus or should I not download it? moreResolved Question: Does skype have any viruses?
