I have a Dell laptop with WindowsXP. I have AVG free for my anti-virus protection. I was getting a pop-up ad for a Windows antivirus thing. Kept popping up driving me crazy, I had to run the AVG complete scan twice to get rid of it then...it tells me I can't access the internet. Hello all I have a custom built pc, pentium 4 2.6 ghz running XP professional. Recently my kid sister downloaded internet explorer 8 and some other adobe junk and lord knows what else, she deleted the history! Anyway I removed the IE 8 but once I did and restarted the PC and opened internet explorer it went insane with about 400 pop ups and my AVG free edition antivirus screaming that infections were detected. I was able to restart and run AVG scanner 4 times locating and removing 4 trojan horses. However now when I go to run AVG or log in to the internet what sounds like a talk radio show and sometimes music plays over my speakers! I don't have any of my music files accessed and am only attempting to run the internet or antivirus scan, I also recieve random pop ups every now and then when I didn't before. I use AVG 8.5 free edition antivirus and adaware protection. What could this little nasty be and how do I get it to stop taking over my speakers and playing this horrible music!? Also when I play a music file mine and the awful music play simultaneously and its driving me nuts!! more

I have a laptop that either has a virus or is possessed by demons... seriously, its making me nuts. Granted I am clueless and probably should not be allowed near a computer, its pretty much a shock to everyone that I can even turn this thing on- but the fact remains, I have a pc and I need help! SO, the problems started recently, every time I turn it on it it insists on doing a disk check which takes forever, and it will randomly decide to restart when Im on online. ok so i no it's infected by some kind of virus, i look at the task manager processes tab and if what ever i got highlighted (or selected) it flashes. and i notice a few programs on the list more than once. i got svchost.exe on there right now 6 times, 3 system, and 3 network service. also have rundll32.exe on there twice, both owner. but the real issue is that my computer likes to freeze up a lot, even now i'm praying that it don't freeze up while im asking this question on y! answers. the major problem is that it will freeze when i have my virus protection (avg free) run scans too, so i don't really know how to deal with this problem really. any advice anyone can give me? more

Resolved Question: CA antivirus protecting my PC?

I bought CA antivirus and antispyware a few weeks ago and it had a little trouble installing, but I finally got it to. What I have noticed is that Windows Security Center essentials doesn't recognize it. It says my Firewall, Windows Defender and Automatic Update are fine, but under 'Malware Protection' it say its off, but not CA. Previously I had the free trial of Norton and that's what it says is off. My options for monitoring don't even include CA. How come CA is not recognized? Is it working? I have Windows XP Pro with service pack 3. Yesterday, I got the Spyware Protection 2009 malware/virus which on its own automatically began to try and download/scan my computer with their software. I closed the program out within 5 seconds of it starting but then it kept bringing up pop-up warnings that my computer is infected and to dowload this software to stop it. I did not download it since I doubted its authenticity. Upon a google search I found out that it was a malware so upon troubleshooting recommendations I installed the free versions of Malwarebyte-anti-malware & SUPERAntiSpyware to clean/get rid of it. They found 4 infected files and removed them which seems to have done the job well. I used my PC for the rest of the day trouble free. Upon shutting down, Windows had some auto updates which I agreed to install upon shutdown. This morning after my PC started up, a "Microsoft Windows Geniune Notifications Wizard" popped up. I was told that Windows is cracking down on piracy and this was a normal thing that is dowlaoded with auto updates. Upon this info and the fact that my Windows software is legit, I followed through with the wizard and it thanked me for registering & all seems fine. All these things bring me to my question...I never bothered to have an anti-virus installed on my PC before (my ignorance/laziness) and after all these recent issues I really want to try to prevent future problems so I wanted to know...What is the best free anti-virus software to use with the Malwarebyte-anti-malware & SUPERAntiSpyware programs I already installed? more

Unfortunately i believe my pc is infected with some sort of virus,So here is a list of whats been going on i get a couple of pop ups that aren't blocked, when i click on a site to go it redirects me to a completely different site,usually something to install more stuff, and my anti virus software Norton, virus protection is off and wont turn on, The pc fire wall is always off and i have to manually turn it on, and i get this advertisements i don't want on a web page ( I know we dont have control over ads but some seem wierd and out of place)Such as " Buy <blank> pills now" on a site that just doesn't match , another example to this is you go to a child's website but you usually see ads for kids stuff right, then you refresh and you see some weird crap such as Viagra pills and guns or you go to a different site and its the same thing , now for the things ive done and noticed, ive installed ad-aware(free version"anniversary") and it managed to clear up to 40 cookies,i also installed spybot but it did nothing so i removed it, ive done a full system scan on Norton and found a backdoor virus thing, and a Trojan and successfully removed them(after this the virus protection refused to work not allowing me to scan more threats)<Also should i uninstall and reinstall Norton instead of buying another software, the subscription ends soon and i have a spare disk but im unsure of to buy a new one or use the spare> I continue to scan with ad-aware and find a couple cookies every so often but nothing big, The pc hasn't act slow, about regular speed more or less. My guess a rootkit,mixed with adware and something else might of snuck in, or i could start being paranoid. Resolved Question: Slow computer - Please Help !!?

Please can someone help me, no technical terms please as they will mean nothing to me. My PC is running slow despite the following, which I do daily and weekly. I have Internet Explorer 6 (hated IE7) I do CCleaner (free) daily sometimes three times I do AVG version 8.0 (free) weekly I do Disk Fragment automatically when I turn on PC I do Disk Cleanup regularly I do Disk Check (weekly) My PC sounds as if it is really straining sometimes, not sure how many RAMS I have, does anyone know how I can check. Any advice appreciated, not to keen on downloading from sites for help as they may contain viruses etc.. I have checked my security and I have Firewall, Automatic Updates & Virus Protection all turned ON. Please, Please what else can I do?Hiya, thanks for the responses. Voting Question: Do I have a Virus/worm which locked up fb.Unable 2 search, use IE, ck yahoo/other mail (led to weird page).?

While in fb, I don't recall seeing a popup-I ignore those, but could've run over one-sometimes my touchpad is oversensitive & clicks w/out my intending (although I've set my sensitivity for a heavier touch). I immediately logged into my McAfee w/my email addy & password to update my virus protection. (I've got 1 yr protection). At end of download, it removed my original Mcafee to load the new one., but it apparently didn't. Now it's gone from my taskbar & nowhere on my control panel or in programs list. I tried to install from a reinstall CD, but it gets to the 6 digit number & stops w/out loading. I ran windows defender scan & it says I'm clean.I've blocked all access from outside sources & have windows defender firewall up. I've deleted browser histories, but is it too late? Should I turn off the laptop til I can get professional help? In system config running progs, I noticed many msn ones are stopped. And other unrecognizable ones are running...but no weird names. I cannot do a search using google & other search engines. It takes me to a blank page. It seems IE is running slowly if at all. Even fb is locked up. I cannot get to groups, inbox, post on walls, nothing. FB is read only for me at this time. I've never had a virus (or whatever this is) b4. My McAfee is on CD, but since I can't get it to load what do I do there? When I click install it shows a 6 digit # & goes no further. I go to the McAfee site w/my signin info & it gets locked up. I've got Vista. It's a dell studio 1735. No probs til now. All probs started while I was on fb & then IE stopped working, google stopped, lost internet connection. I rebooted then began w/the mcafee antivirus..that seemed to make things worse even though I checked the addy & made sure it was the legit Mc site. I was more comfortable in dos than in windows. So windows isn't my forte. I don't see any names in config/progs that stand out as currently known probs. But all of this happened w/in mins of ea other. I'm sure it started w/fb, which cascaded to IE stopping, wireless Lan stopped... I looked at malwarebytes.org..but didn't see a free option. Is it a free 'trial'? Then can you opt out? I know my explanation is confusing, but I've been working on this for 2 hours & not getting anywhere. I can't search or get to my mail. I'm concerned if I go to any old familiar sites, my passwords will be compromised because I think my info is being rerouted to someone. I don't have a backup. I was going to get a backup drive this weekend. Since this computer is only 5 mos old would it be better for me to contact Dell or take it to my local computer guy if I can't get it figured out. (I was in a wreck yrs ago that caused a brain injury & sometimes I have probs working thru data which used to not be a prob, cuz I used to teach advanced ms-dos.Now this simple stuff is dragging me down). I've got all my original prog CDs, but don't want to have to reload if not necessary. I'm firewall bolted down. Is it dangerous for me to be on my pc until this is fixed? I'm wondering if 'they' are getting my login info/passwords if I go to any sites. I've deleted history, passwords, cookies, etc. I'm only able to go to a few sites, anyway. I don't understand why defender says I'm ok. & the mcafee virus install removed all traces of mcafee. Do I just need to get off the pc & try w/ a clearer mind tomorrow w/Dell, mcafee, or my repair dude in town? I'm not part of any geek squad or the like, so it's going to be an hourly charge, right? For all the free virus downloads, how do I know THEY aren't scams like the 2009 one? I thought Mcafee & windows defender were protecting me. Why did'nt they catch this? Resolved Question: Need urgent help. My system restarts itself after 2 mins when i connect to the internet.?

I do not know the reason. It doesn't happen when i use my pc normally without connecting the net.I believe that there might be some virus or spywares, i do not know exactly, or is there any technical problems.If virus is the reason, then i would want the people to know that I have Avast home edition. when i scan my system it does not find any virus. I use internet often or could say i am always available onlie. I need a free antivirus/spyware protection. Please prescribe some better anti virus or other spyware removers. I need an answer for my problem. experts please help me.. i need some suggestion for protecting my system. Please if u know the remedy for my problem answer it immediately.......I m using windows xp service pack 2. i have compaq pc with 1.256gb ram and 2.44 ghz with 120gb hard disk. it does not show any warning symbol when it shuts down... guys pls help me with more information more
