Then the teacher is like "Now don't get me wrong. I believe in Affirmative Action and stuff but is minority discrimination like this fair?" He made Affirmative Action seem like a thing for blacks. Does he not realize all poor people of any race and only the poor are eligible for Affirmative Action, including whites? Does he not realize Asian Americans are successful because they are most likely to complete higher education and gain graduate degrees in America. This is because most of the education Asian Americans receive is NOT from America. Because of the Hart-Celler Act in 1965, Asian Americans were able to migrate to the United States based upon skills and intelligence. In other words, Asian Americans are required to have a good education from their own country in order to migrate to the U.S. Before the 1980s in fact, little to no Asian Americans even lived in the U.S. because of laws that prevented migration (enacted of course by whites). Today's elderly and middle-aged Asian Americans never had to endure legalized racial discrimination and mistreatment to the extreme extent African Americans did, or to any extent for that matter. Why? They aren't African Americans and they weren't even living here up until recently; thusly, most of them aren't brought up in poverty-stricken. Being able to afford migration to the U.S. and good education in their own countries, it's unlikely Asian Americans started out in poverty. On the other hand, from the time the first African Americans were first BROUGHT to the U.S. in the 1500s, they never had an opportunity to make much money: slavery from 1500s to 1865; legalized racial discrimination and other forms of cruelty from 1865 through 1970s; prevalence of white flight throughout the 1970s as blacks gradually gained more equal rights. White flight separated the wealth of society from poverty-stricken African Americans. Throughout the 1980s, Whites also use loopholes and technicalities to keep African Americans segregated -- One must also take into consideration the current anti-black hate crimes and discrimination that is at an all-time high according to FBI statistics: African Americans receive 72.6%; white Americans receive 17.3%; Asian Americans receive 3.4%. A more appropriate issue to address is how pathetic it is that whites have been surpassed by Asian Americans as the wealthiest racial group despite white privilege. Whites should not be the 2nd wealthiest racial group when they make up the majority and have white privilege. One could argue that America has inferior education to Asia but that's still no excuse for whites: America is among the top ten most wealthiest countries in the world and is the largest country of that top ten. In addition, most of that wealth is in the possession of whites. White Americans have both the wealth, governmental authority, and majority influence to create better education in America. Unlike African Americans, white Americans aren't impoverished and attending crummy, lower-class schools because of extreme racial discrimination. Today's middle-aged white generation wasn't forced to grow up lower-class in ghettoes because of denied rights. Bottomline! Whites have no excuse for being the 2nd wealthiest racial group behind Asian Americans. As Asian Americans have had a vastly different history from African Americans, it's horribly unfair to compare the two racial groups in terms of success in America. A reasonable comparison to African Americans would be Aboriginal Australians. Aboriginal Australians have had a similar history to African Americans. They were racially discriminated against by white Australians just a few decades ago. How I Can Save the Republican Party By Meghan McCain So today I was like in the bathroom, brushing my teeth and thinking about what’s going to be in my memoir (which by the way I just sold to Hyperion for 600 thousand. Nice, right?) and I had a great idea how to save the Republican Party. What was that? No I’m busy right now. You know my generation doesn’t like the Republican Party and the name is totally a huge problem. Who wants to vote for people named “Republicans” anyway? What is a Republican? What does that word even mean? I opened up a dictionary and it said something about a Republic, which is some kind of magazine or something. And if I don’t know what it means, no one knows what it means. So why do we even have the name? It’s like all those weird signs on the back of a dollar bill which I swear begin to hypnotize me if I look at them for too long. So I totally am in love with the Republican party, but the name has to go. We need to call it something short and cool, like Google. I mean if the Republican Party was called something like Google or Prada or Yahoo, it would have a much better image. Hold on a second I have to get the phone… yeah what? No I’m ordering in. Is this thing still typing? No don’t type that. How do I shut this off? Okay back to the issues. You can’t graduate from the Fashion Institute of Technology and not learn a thing or two about politics. Also I spent a lot of time with my dad, who’s big in politics and stuff. Resolved Question: My new socialized medicine question?

Ok, now that I have a few opinions. Allow me to educate those who don't know what it is and go based on what real "gems" like Rush Limbaugh says of it. I don't have experience with socialized medicine except for in Australia. I can't speak for Canada, Englad, Scotland because I haven't lived there. But I can tell you what I, as an American citizen, experienced. I got sick and called to see my in-laws family doctor. They made an appointment for me that day and told me if I couldn't go there, that he would come out to my house that day. I went to see him and he made a medical file for me, checked me over, and prescribed me medicine. I went to the counter afterwards and asked how much I owed and was chuckled at and told I didn't owe anything. I went to the chemist (pharmacy) and turned in my prescription and asked how much it would be. They looked at me like I was crazy, handed me my meds and wished me better. Universal healthcare story: My friend was mugged and hit over the head with a saw horse. He went to the emergency room and the waiting room was packed with people. Must have been at least 35 people. Being from Texas, I expected to live there but by the time I was done eating the KFC my in-laws brought for us, he was seen and ready to go home. That was 2 hours total from walking in to walking out. A US hospital story: I was pregnant about a year ago and started bleeding (sorry guys!) and sat in the emergency room for 5 hours before they even triaged me. Someone with a sore wrist went before me. They claim to triage based on the urgency of the condition. I don't know about you folks, but I'd let my sore wrist wait for a bleeding pregnant woman to be seen. Another US hospital story: I had smoke inhalation from a house fire and waited 10 hours to be seen. About an hour before they took me back, this old rich guy walked in (no limp) and said his knee was sore from an old injury. Within 10 minutes, he had been to x-ray and had an ice pack for his knee. Where was my oxygen? My blood oxygen level was almost 90%. BTW, I pay for insurance. I was paying over $500 a month for coverage so it's not like I walked in there with no intent to pay. I know people say "well if you need a transplant, you go on a waiting list and could die before you get the surgery in countries with socialized medicine". I love to break it to you, but there's a wait list here too. If you need surgery for your appendix, for example, they schedule you and it gets done quickly. Things like plastic surgery and such take a while, but when it's for vanity, who cares? You won't die if you don't go from a AA cup to a DD cup within a week. Sure doctors won't make as much here, I guess, but the thing about the socialized medicine where I've experienced it is that doctors get bonuses when their patients are healthy and stay healthy. It's an incentive to cure people and not just treat symptoms. Here in the states, doctors get a cut when they patients have to stay on meds and keep coming back. So those of you that are strongly against socialized medicine would rather have a doctor that would prefer to keep you on meds so they can afford payments on their 3rd house rather than a doctor that makes more money when he cures you? Anyway, there's some examples of socialized medicine vs US medicine for you. Your choice is just that, but at least make an informed decision and don't just be another sheep of the big wigs in the govt that want to scare you out of it.Stu: i said i don't have experience in countries other than Australia. This is a followup to my previous Rush Limbaugh question. There is a big difference between a charity and a campaign. 1) Charity is tax deductible. 2) Charity is generally non-controversial 3) Large charity donations from companies (like Limbaugh's) are normally hyped for PR purposes. In some ways, you made my point. Limbaugh (or his company) cared enough about Leukemia to make a million dollar contribution. How much did he care about electing Republican congressmen? Although they are public record, political contributions are generally private in that people don't issue press releases when they make them. You have to look to find them and hardly anyone does look. I'm not saying Limbaugh isn't a charitable person. Perhaps the real Limbaugh is a very kindhearted soul. Perhaps the real Limbaugh is very different from his radio persona. One thing is certain: The real Limbaugh doesn't care enough about electing Republicans to give his private money.Also, 527 donations will show up in FEC reports. So that does not explain it. more
