Voting Question: I have spyware on my computer that prevents me from opening anti-spyware software... what can I do?

I have a Dell D620 Latitude and the XP Antispyware 2010 keeps popping up telling me that I am infected with something that is tracking my keystrokes. I installed adaware from Lavasoft but it won't open. I am also prevented from going to any websites that let you download free spyware protection. GAH! what do I do?!?!? more

Resolved Question: What is going on with my internet connection?

I upgraded my service from 3mbps download to 18mbps. I bought a gigabit router to replace my old 10/100. I have also replaced every bit of cat5 between the wall and my pc. The only piece of hardware that I haven't replaced is the pc itself. As far as the pc is concerned, I have run Norton antivirus, Lavasoft Adaware SE, Spybot and CCleaner. Multiple times. Every time, it comes up clean. So why in the world is it that around the same time every single day I suddenly go from being able to smoothly run online gaming applications to taking 10 minutes just to bring up the Google homepage? And this lasts for at least a few hours! If I was running wireless, I would think that someone was piggybacking and I needed to increase my router security. But I'm NOT running wireless, my system is completely hardwired. Lately I've spent more time on the phone with my ISP's tech support department than I have with my own husband, and THEY still insist that the problem HAS to be on my end. I can't think of anything else I can fix! This is seriously driving me crazy! Can someone please tell me what is going on here and what I can do about it?* CCleaner clears cache, cookies and history. I have the same problem in both firefox and explorer. But thanks for trying. :)**Okay. I'm on a cable connection not DSL. And since this happens around the same time every day I've been suspecting a bandwidth issue. But if that's the case, wouldn't upgrading from 3mbps to 18 fix this, or at least improve the situation?Thank you, MB! It's great to hear someone else voice what I've been thinking (maybe I'm not crazy?) and I needed a way to provide data to my ISP. I'll run those tests now and then again tonight when my connection goes to crap. Hopefully it will be enough to convince them to check out the network traffic and maybe barbeque a bandwidth pig. :)Yep, guilty of gaming. But I've only screwed with parameters to lower rendering in favor of better performance. I'm not sure what MTU is, so I'm fairly sure I haven't screwed with that one. Anyway, I'd look a lot harder at my gaming parameters if I could get to google after my game shut down. Thanks again for the info. I just hope I can convince my ISP to at least look into it. more

Voting Question: I have a major computer problem, what should i do?

Hi, i am having some major problems with my computer. It started about 5 days ago, suddenly there pop ups saying vista security 2010, and scans which showed my computer to be infected. I scan my computer everyday using Norton and Lavasoft-adaware. I thought it to be advertisements and left them. By pop ups i didn't mean online i mean that they were popping up on the bottom right of my computer where like the symbols for volume, and safely remove drives froms is. About 2 days after this started i saw that the there was a problem with Norton ( this was not a problem before, so it wasn't that i didn't notice). Then after fixing this and having the all clear green signs again, i found loads wrong. All programmes such as ITunes, and Malwarebytes won't work (all exe files) and other such files. Also i had a side bar which told me all the new updates and news on the right side of the screen on the screensaver part, and that's gone too. Whenever i try wto open any programme, i will get a box saying i need to reopen it using another file or programme, and that an exe file is missing. I tried to download a programme which is said to cure exe files and i downloaded it fine but it says that file is missing despite having downloaded it. The same happed with ITunes too. I tried fixing them in the control panel bit, and that iddn't work, Also I can't system restore as it says that file is missing. Furthermore, my computer seems to take longer to load each time i open it. I don't know what's wrong and what to do. Please help me.Thanks for any answers, there is one thing i forgot ot mention, that is, i don't really know much about computers and it would really help, if you like did a step by step guide cos i don't know what to do if otherwiseI have malwarebytes and anything i download seems not to open more

Resolved Question: Avast Anti virus says that some programs are trojan viruses?

The avast on access scanner has picked up quite a few harmless software that I have on my comp. Software like, Spybot Search and Destroy, Lavasoft Adaware, MSN games, Comcast toolbar, and a few others. It'd say it's a trojan horse of Win32.DELF? This has never happened before and I use those programs constantly. But I trusted Avast so I moved them all to chest but I don't know why this is happening? Should I recover these programs as I see nothing is bad about them or go with Avast leave them in the chest? So far there has been 61 infections found already? more

Resolved Question: Any opinions on Lavasoft's Ad Aware - pros & cons?

I wanted to know if this is a good option to install if I already have CA's anti-virus and firewall, SpyBot, MalwareBytes, CCleaner and ATF Cleaner. I had it for a while, but lately it has bogged down my system. The last time I tried a scan with AdAware, I stopped it after 75 minutes. It was like it was on a continuous scan loop. It had never taken more than 10 minutes to do scans previously. I think it was also responsible for long boot-up time. I uninstalled it today and the computer booted much faster. Should I re-install it, or just leave it out? more

Resolved Question: How to fix a possibly registry error with hard drive.?

Hello, I purchased Lavasoft Registry Turner last April. There were no problems loading the program and it worked (I believe) as described. However, after a few months, I got a message on my computer about a registry error (a messages from xp). I ran registry tuner and nothing was amiss (according to the tuner). However, the next day, I couldn't access any of my files under My Documents. I removed the hard drive placed it into an external drive case and ran registry tuner again as well as adaware. No problems showed up according to both softwares. Now, the memory shows it being used but I cannot access the files. I can still save files and open documents that I've saved after the issued with the My Documents folder disappearing. How can I fix this without destroying the data on this drive? I'm a teacher and these are all my lesson plans and support information from last year (no I didn't back up the information like an intelligent person). My only other option is to take it to the "Geek Squad", but I'm afraid they will charge me an outrageous price to fix something that might be minor (or might not). Also, it is not just another document folder. I know the exact name of the folder and It doesn't show up in any of the searches I've used. In fact, I can right click on properties for the drive and it will show that there are 4,436 files on this drive for a total of 1.6gb. However if I use the search function for windows vista and type in a specific file name, it will not show up. In other words, the folder has been hidden from and inaccessible to me somehow. more

Voting Question: I have a smart virus!?

Whenever i open an antivirus it shuts it down imediatly. I uninstall and reinstall current and even new antivirus programs only to have them shut down with a message stating that i may not have permission to access this. It has to date shut down Lavasoft Adaware, Malware bytes, Advanced registry cleaner, Trend micro house calls, Hijack this and Microsoft Defender.how can i find out if i'm still the administrator? more

Resolved Question: Spybot - installed in 1 desktop; but cannot install on another?

I have a desktop (wireless) and a laptop (wired/wireless). Spybot works fine in desktop and cannot be installed in laptop. I cannot even access www.safer-networking.org (their home website) from my laptop. When I try to install it on the laptop (tried both wireless and wired), I get website not found error. It cannot find www.safer-networking.org but this website is accessible from desktop. Coincidentally or not, I cannot get to update Lavasoft Adaware either from my laptop. Do I have some kind of malware that is blocking my access to this website? On the laptop, I removed all HOSTS entries except the localhost. Very puzzling. Update: Before installing S&D on the laptop, I installed Spyware Blaster and uninstalled it. I immunized a few things and then uninstalled it. Some things were not removed properly by Spyware Blaster? I am trying to install Spybot S&D - 1.6.2 more

Resolved Question: How do I get rid of this virus/malware/whatever it is~?

Ok, so 3 days ago my pc decided to freak out and start giving me pop ups for WinPC Antivirus, well, I thought I had that removed but since then it's all gotten worse. I am just today able to use Firefox to get online, but it's like as soon as it knows I am trying to do something to kill it, it knocks me offline. I cannot access IE at all. There are pop ups showing up when I first bootup now that take me to IE, but I can never see WHERE it's going to find out what I am dealing with. Anyhow, with all this...Norton, Windows Defender and AdAware all say there is nothing on my computer now. Knowing that there is I downloaded Spyware Dr and Malwarebytes, it will not allow me to run these two files to even install them. I did however get hijackthis installed and I am hoping that one of you genius' out here can make heads or tails of it and guide me a little from this point. I am so sick of this, I've never had to deal with this and my head may explode I am thinkin lol. Resolved Question: Why does my D: drive refuse to stay open after a few seconds?

Hi all I've got a Hasee laptop running XP Pro SP3 and this problem just came out of nowhere. When I open d drive on my laptop it closes automatically after a second so, everything on my screen dissappears (except for background), and it comes back a couple seconds later. No error messages are displayed. When I right click my d drive icon the cursor hangs, and I have to close the window using task manager. When i type a d drive folder destination in the command prompt it opens the folder, as soon as i click anything within it it closes automatically. The scans I've run are as follows: Norton 360 PC Tools Spyware doctor Super Anti-spyware Spybot Search and destroy Lavasoft AdAware Malwarebytes Anti-malware Avast Avira Eset Pandascan CCleaner BitDefender I've performed error checks on both drives, I've run a few of these scans in safe mode, I've tried to do a system restore but nothing has worked. Hi guys, I recently downloaded a dodgy program, and got loads of virus's and stuff from it. I've got rid of all of them except for one, I think. The one that is persistant is called: jl.chura.pl/rc/, and I get a warning message that it is active every time I open Mozilla Firefox. I think it has something to do with java. Anyways, the symptoms it seems, is that my Internet Explorer no longer keeps a history of things, for example, if I go on a forum and I want it to remember my username and password for next time, if I shut down the browser and then reopen it, it would have lost all my details. For some reason, it still keeps my history, and stuff i've typed into Google. It also will not let some programs run, such as BitLord. I have got AVG 8.0 (full version), Spybot Search and Destroy, Lavasoft AdAware 2007, and CCleaner. None of these will get it away. When I do a scan with any of them, they will pick up a bunch of stuff, so I remove it. Then I scan again and they will pick up more stuff etc, like on a loop. But the virus or what ever it is still remains. Any help GREATLY appreciated! Resolved Question: Unremovable Virus/Trojan horse?

Hi guys, I recently downloaded a dodgy program, and got loads of virus's and stuff from it. I've got rid of all of them except for one, I think. The one that is persistant is called: jl.chura.pl/rc/, and I get a warning message that it is active every time I open Mozilla Firefox. I think it has something to do with java. Anyways, the symptoms it seems, is that my Internet Explorer no longer keeps a history of things, for example, if I go on a forum and I want it to remember my username and password for next time, if I shut down the browser and then reopen it, it would have lost all my details. For some reason, it still keeps my history, and stuff i've typed into Google. It also will not let some programs run, such as BitLord. I have got AVG 8.0 (full version), Spybot Search and Destroy, Lavasoft AdAware 2007, and CCleaner. None of these will get it away. When I do a scan with any of them, they will pick up a bunch of stuff, so I remove it. Then I scan again and they will pick up more stuff etc, like on a loop. But the virus or what ever it is still remains. Any help GREATLY appreciated! Resolved Question: Should I download and install the google pack?

http://pack.google.com/intl/en/pack_installer.html I need something to protect my computer. i have windows defender and i am keeping that but i dont really think it is the best. my norton trial ran out and the free spyware doctor is not cutting it. only the intelliguard is useful and it has prevented a bunch of things. the google pack has norton and spyware doctor (almost) full versions. but i am away of downloading anything from google if it will make the spyware situation worse. i can uncheck the boxes for google toolbar and that other shit, but still. i also have lavasoft adaware and spybot s&d. i am positive spybot doesnt pick up everything and lavasoft doesnt either. so spybot is gone now. although i think lavasoft is pretty good. i dont think any free antivirus or antispyware software really does the job good enough. i also cannot find any good cracks on piratebay that work, so the google pack seems like a good option. any advice or tips on this? thanksps i tried avast and im not sure how it worked for u but it did not pick up anything that my other programs were picking up also whoever said the google pack would not help: i said the google pack has free versions of norton and spyware doctor what i really want to know is if the google pack can be trusted to not put spyware on my system. Resolved Question: What to do about AdAware 2007- I think it just crashed.?

I have Norton's and have had Ad Aware since 2006. I have never liked the 2007 version as it is harder to use and I am no computer genius. It is always busy when you try to do updates and never finds spyware like the 2006 version, just cookies which I can delete anyway. Last evening I tried to open Ad Aware and it came up w/ this white box with a header that said "Unhandled Exception" at the top and went on to explain that one had occurred. At the bottom I had the option to send a crash report to Lavasoft or not to send one. Tried both but still keep getting that box and can't open . Says service is not online. I have Windows XP. Will it do any good to download the new Ad Aware 2008? Do I have to remove the 2007 version first? Please remember I am not the best with computer "issues" so please explain as if I am an idiot because I am when it comes to this particular area of computers. Any help would be appreciated. more

Any time i run a search in google or any search engine on my other computer it brings up the wrong page in a new tab. ALSO, here's the important part for everyone who's about to say something about ad_aware, or spyware, i can't get to any site that has anything to do with virus removal. For instance, i can go to almost any site just by typing in the address in the address bar, however if i try to go to norton.com, lavasoft.com, any sites like that it wont let me. I suspect I got a computer virus. The computer slowed down, firewall got turned off somehow, and the font changed in my web browser. To check for virus I installed old McAfee (about 3 year old version) and current Lavasoft AdAware (but with old definitions file from 2005) anti-virus software and tried to update them. I also tried to download the latest security update from Microsoft. I am connected to the internet and can browse it, but all updates failed - when I clicked "Update" buttons the updates did not go through. I cannot even access McAfee web site (the site does not come up), even though I can access Google and Yahoo. I also cannot access MS update web site, although I can access main MS site. I need to fix my PC. There is some sort of trojan downloader program running in the task manager called LOL with a generic program box icon. Going to the process, it's called liveonline_308 with some more numbers after that, can't remember what they are. I have read about this LOL.exe and it supposedly has been known by other 'program' names and capable of rewriting a number of registry keys. Anyway, Spybot Search & Destroy and AVG anti-virus got rid of it once in safe mode. It came back. Anti-virus doesn't detect it now even though the process still runs when I start the system up. Anti-spyware doesn't detect it. I've tried Spybot S&D again, SUPERAntispyware, and Lavasoft's AdAware (which on a full system scan) stays stuck about 7 minutes on scanning a registry key - don't know if that's the problem or not. I've tried looking it up on the internet and everything I've read so far says to delete the value in the registry edit which I can still get to. Yet when I look in the registry for the value that Symantec says to delete, it's not there. So where is it? I've tried using search to find lol.exe and it comes back with nothing. I've currently got the PC in safe mode. I thought the worm was W32.HLLW.Reckus. But maybe it's not because I can't seem to find it anywhere. Many sites say to delete entries that end in CurrentVersion/Run and similar sounding entries. Should I? What else can I do? Should I try doing a system restore next since I can't seem to find it or, are there other ways of searching for it first that doesn't sound like I've tried yet?I apologize, but I need an answer that's not so generic. Im usually pretty good about detecting spyware or malware, but other people have been getting onto my computer here recently. I go to search for somthing on google, or on yahoo, and I get results, and they all have correct links, etc. But when i go to click on them, a new window pops up containing another search engine. I am never directed to the website I want to go to, just more search engines like info.com, and other useless crap. Ok, I have Windows XP SP2 and my mom really got some bad stuff on here. She didnt know to install any kind of antivirus software and i think she opened a bad attachment or something. When you boot in normal mode, it uses active desktop to display some kind of fake spyware removal software, and you get popups for some link it wants you to click. Its hard to get anywhere on the start menu because its like it cycles something and every few seconds it closes explorer.exe and then opens it again, so its like the desktop icons and startbar flicker. I cant run task manager to manually stop these, as it says its been disabled by administrator. Of course what has actually happened is thet spyware put this key in the registry to disable it. I went in there, but the minute i delete that key, it reappers. If i open some form of application, like regedit or command window, etc it will work and stay open, but eventually nothing else will. i cant get windows explorer or any browse function to work. i was able to use the run command and install lavasoft adaware which finds 326 items in 4 categories, including 2 trojans and 1 worm. When i go to remove them it wont, they just keep staying in the screen.. im assuming its because they are locked into some kind of windows service or something, so safe mode is the next try. However, safe mode doesnt work.. after i log in, i just see the safe mode writing in the corners and the desktop/start bar never shows up any ideas on what to do? rebuilding would be a last resort for me, i want to help my mom out but im so busy that im hoping a way to clean, protect and just give her the machine back, i dont want to have to rebuild one right now thanks! more

Resolved Question: What can I do about AdAware SE definition updates?

Lavasoft stopped supporting it's SE version of AdAware at the end of December, however definition updates were available for manual downloading and installation on their website. Apparently they have even stopped doing that now. The last functional definition update I downloaded was on May 12th. The last update of May 15 was not functional and when I tried to run AdAware, it said something to the effect that the definitions were corrupted. Since then, no new defs have been offered for the SE version. My computer's OS will nor support the AdAware 2007 version. What can I do now? Hi Couple days ago tried installing keygen (stupidly!) from website, deleted it as it was suspicious. i accidentaly clicked on a web page that instantly took over my computer. its name is ultimate cleaner and it brought along a buddy called win spykiller. they erased the restore dates from the system restore calendar so i cant use system restore. they changed my browser from internet explorer to theirs called security center. it demands that i buy their services and is constantly blocking my screen so i cant use my computer.it changed my home page to theirs, changed yahoo search to theirs, and is constantly trying to change my default settings. it even is using windows and micrsoft logos and warning/alert boxes trying to fool me into downloading their stuff. it blocks every attempt i make to contact my lavasoft adaware program to remove this spyware. can anyone help me? anti spyware shield and security toolbar 7.1 are also in cahoots with the other two. it prevents me from trying to fix my printer problems i asked about a few days ago also. thanks more
