Microsoft Anti Spyware Download Questions asked

Open Question: Problems with spyware and possible virus' on my laptop? HELP!?

I got a new laptop, about a month ago. A couple days ago, I was on ThePirateBay.org looking for some P90x videos, and tried to download some. When I did, the download ended up installing a program called Anti Malware Doctor. I google'd the program, and it turns out to be a rogue security program. My computer has been experiencing many things that it hadn't before. For example, I get allot of pop ups saying things like "A live agent would like to talk to you about possible discounts, click cancel on the next page to speak to him." I thought this strange, so I google'd the sentence, and found out it was spyware on my computer. I went into the Window's task manager, and into the processes tab. I scanned through the list of processes, and noticed that allot of them I hadn't seen before. Then I noticed that there were 8 internet explorers open, and I didn't even have one open at the time. I went into my internet's history, and found that allot of the webpages that were open were ads for clubs, real estate, and just advertisement. Later on, I went onto the Microsoft website, and found and installed a virus/spyware doctor. I scanned my computer using it, and it found 2 things. One which it deleted, and the second which the access was denied. I then went and got my window's service pack 1 disc, and tried to completely redo my computer. after about 2 minutes, I get a blue screen saying the setup was stopped and I should scan my computer for virus' and should run CHKDSK /F. So I went and tried to run chkdsk /f, but it said I cannot run it at this time because it is in use by another program. I think I want to just completely re-install windows, so that I know all the spyware, etc. is off my computer. Why won't it let me? Please help. Sorry this post is so long =/ more

Resolved Question: is windows defender any good?

I have downloaded a free anti spyware program that I found on the microsoft website - its called windows defender, it also has real time protection which means its always running in the background, but as I have only just downloaded it I don't know much about it, can anyone tell me is windows defender any good at keeping spyware off your computer, and is it heavy on system resources (due to its real time protection), I have opted not to join the spynet community due to poor privacy concerns - microsoft are a nosy lot, what I am doing is not illegal - just private so has anyone already got/had windows defender - what do you think of itI should mention that I do have other "free" versions of antispyware programs such as malaware bytes and super antispyware but those free versions don't have real time protection more

Resolved Question: Random internet disconnections, and very slow download speeds?

Technical info: ASUS Model P50IJ/P8IJ series laptop Pentium (R) Dual Core T4400 @ 2.5GHz 4.00GB Ram 64bit Windows 7 Home Premium Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter Atheros AR9121/AR8113/AR8114 PCI-E Ethernetcontroller Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter Okay, the problem: This has been going on for about a month now, but I figured it was just my router. However, since the downstairs PC, and no other laptop in the house appears to be doing this... 1) Random connection loss. I will be playing a game, chatting, watching something, and all of a sudden it slows to a crawl, and then stops. If I watch my connection icon, it tells me I have five bars, suddenly drops to none, and restarts my connection. I can speed up the process if as soon as I see that my connections going down, I go to the list of available wireless options and disconnect my self, and then turn around and reconnect. My list of available connections does not change, all connections are still shown, including the one that I'm currently on that goes down. 2) Lately I've been getting VERY slow download speeds. I've run PingTest and SpeedTest, both of which rate me average to high (A little less than 3.5Down, with 38 Ping, and no packet loss), but if I say, try going to YouTube and watching a music video, or downloading something from Amazon, or saving an image from ICanHasCheeseburger to email a friend, my download speed suddenly decides to be anywhere from 30Kbs to 1Kbs or less. For a while I thought I was getting up to 900kbs, but on closer look, It was 900bits. I got better download speeds on DIAL UP. Once again, this only appears to be affecting MY laptop, no one computer in the house. 3) If I run the self diagnostics on my laptop, I will, perhaps 50% of the time receive a message telling me that my network cable is disconnected or damaged. I've only ever run this computer through wireless, so I have no idea why my network cable being unplugged or damaged would be an issue? I just tried running the diagnostic again and it couldn't find an issue. Part 2: What I've done to try and fix: Updated drivers (They're up to date and won't allow me to update). Reinstall FireFox (Even after I had the same issue on Internet Explorer, I gave it a try. No it didn't help) Up-To-Date Virus Scan: Clean (Comodo Anti-Virus) Up-To-Date Virus Scan: Clean (ImmuNet Protect) Up-To-Date Spyware Scan: 8 low-risk tracking bots, removed, scanned again and clean Reboots: Several times. Doesn't actually help. That's about the extent of my capabilities on a computer. I've done SOME research into my issue, and found people with similar problems, but haven't found my exact issue, so I'm hoping someone here can help me out. more

Resolved Question: Help! My PC Got A Virus. What Should I Do?

Now 3 days ago I downloaded some game. and got some "security tool" virus and I think others. So after a couple hours I do a system restore. Now, no sign of that security tool, but now Im getting kicked off the internet and my computer is running slower. So then I take it to bestbuy/ geek squad where I bought it over a year and a half ago. They run a diagnostics check, and say yes, that there are viruses. And want me to buy ativirus for 200 bucks. I say no, get home, try another system restore, then download free anti-spyware avast, run it let it do its thing, then delete it (cause I heard it mite slow down my computer). Then I bring it to my brothers house and see if it works, everythings fine. Now, I want to bring her home, but before I do, I want to be "ABSOLUTELY SURE" It is just as I bought her (or maybe even better/fatser). These are some things I heard will do just that: First some one said my system restore should have done the trick( I want to be more sure, cause I heard these viruses can disguise themselves and come back later) . Someone said re-install windows 7 OS, the only problem with that is my computer did'nt come with the windows 7 disk, Now the geek sqaud said I need to buy the disk from microsoft for $300 or try and see if making recovery disks and rebooting it will work. (Don't have blank disks at the moment, maybe buy some later.) I' ve also heard of manually removing them, just don't know what to look for or how or where to begint(if u know how.I would like to try, just need easy to follow directions please tell me) Geek squad also said i must have anti virus and spyware(any suggestions on the best, cheapest, and less performance swallowing.) Thank You For All your answers, God Bless YOU more

Voting Question: I got a message saying there may be a virus attacking my computer, what should I do?

Sorry my previous message wasnt quite clear. I appreciate all the suggestions made. This is the progress so far. I have a warning saying 'Antivirus software alert Inflitration alert Your computer is being attacked by an internet virus. It could be a password-stealing attack, a trojan - dropper or similar Details Attack from:212.4.196.201, port 27658 Attacked port:30660 Threat: Win32/Nuqel.E It then says do you want to block this attack. I havnt clicked anything because I'm scared if I go through the links the scan itself may be the virus that will effect the computer. I tried going through Windows firewall see if I could work my way through anything but a message popped up saying 'Application cannot be executed. The file rundll32.exe is infected. Also once every couple minutes a pornsite pops up, I exit out straight away and another message pops up saying 'Your computer is infected by spyware - 34 serious threats have been found while scanning your files and registry. It is strongly recommended that you disinfect your computer and activate realtime secure protection against future intrusions. 22 minutes ago Im also scared to buy any virus protection as I'd have to put my credit card details on the internet... I tried downloading the free trial of AVG but a message popped up saying 'Application cannot be exexuted. The file avg etc etc is infected. Do you want to activate your antivirus now 19 minutes ago I would of thought there was anti virus protection on here, but it seems not. When I went through Windows security center it said that virus protection was not found. Why would all these antivirus software alerts come up if theres no virus protection in the first place... :S 15 minutes ago SO I TRIED ALL THE TRIALS EVERYONE HAS RECOMMENDED BUT THEY KEEP GETTING BLOCKED OUT :( I'M SUCH A DRAMA QUEEN BUT I THINK WHATEVER THIS THING IS IS STARTING TO EAT INTO MY COMPUTER, I CANT EVEN OPEN MICROSOFT WORD ANYMORE :-S more

Voting Question: Four Questions About Team Fortress 2 and GMod?

I'm really interested in possibly buying TF2 because of what my friends have said about it, but I know very little about the game. Also, one of my friends advised me to buy both TF2 and GMod. The following questions apply to both TF2 and GMod. 1) Is it a download or a PC? When I tried to buy it on Steam, it asked me for my address... 2) Will it run on this computer?: (link:http://www.walmart.com/ip/Dell-i15R-2217MRB/14335595) Microprocessor: Intel® Core™ i5-450M (2.4GHz, 4Threads, turbo boost up to 2.66Ghz, 3MB cache) Operating System: Genuine Windows 7 ® Home Premium (64-bit) Service Pack: None Memory: 4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz (2 DIMMs) Video Graphic: Intel® HD Graphics Hard Drive: 640GB* 5400RPM Hard Drive Multimedia Drive: 8X DVD+/-RW Drive Media Card Reader: 7-in-1 Media Card Reader Biometrics: No Bluetooth: Dell Wireless 365 Bluetooth Lojack: Yes Display: 15.6" HD WLED (1366X768) Fax/Data Modem: No Network: 10/100 Ethernet Wireless Connectivity: Dell Wireless 1501 Broadband: None Audio: Integrated Audio Keyboard: Backlit - NO Pointing Device: None Webcam: Built-in 1.3MP webcam Battery: 6-Cell Lithium Ion Battery Warranty and Support: 1-Year Return to Depot* and 24x7 Technical Support Software1: Microsoft® Works 9 or Microsoft® Office Starter 2010* Software2: McAfee SecurityCenter with anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewall, 15 months Software3: 1yr Computrace LoJack for Laptops 3) Is there a monthly fee? 4) This question doesn't apply to TF2 or GMod, but will I be able to install Steam on the given computer? (As you can see, I know nothing about computers) ThanksThanks, that was really helpful. I don't really care about GMod, but do you know if TF2 will run on the computer? I'm a little confused about the graphics card, because the description just says it has intel graphics. will that be enough? Also, I plan on using this computer. I won't be able to get another computer. more

Resolved Question: Can't get security updates for Microsoft Office 2003?

My grandfather's computer will not get any security updates for Microsoft Office 2003. His OS is Windows XP and it continues to try to download and install the updates as part of automatic updates, but it always fails. Initially I assumed a virus or something, but I have run Malwarebytes, Spybot Search and Destroy, Ad-Aware, and his anti-spyware program, (I forget the name of it), and none of them find any problems. Is this software just simply outdated? What could be the problem, and how can I fix this? It doesn't really seem to bother him, but it sure annoys me when I use his computer and the stupid little icon is constantly telling me there are updates ready to install.I don't remember an error code being listed, but I'll check again next time I'm over there. I too thought maybe SP3 was missing, but I installed it so I don't think I would have forgotten to do that, (but it is completely possible). This wasn't a pop up error message by the way, it just fails to install the updates after downloading them. Oddly enough even though the install fails, the computer tries to finish installing them when I shut the computer down. I'll look for some error codes next time I'm over there more

Resolved Question: How do you recover from 'The Blue Screen Of Death' in Windows XP?

When booted into Normal Mode, after I have logged in and the Desktop has loaded, 'The Blue Screen Of Death' pops up with the following information on it: A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this Stop Error Screen please restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or backup utilities. Check your hard drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer. Technical Information *** STOP: 0X00000024 (0X001902FE, 0XFA4D954, 0XF7A4D650, 0XEDF10692) *** zlifuproclvn1.sys - Address EDF10692 base at EDF03000, Dasestamp 4bd9daa To be totally honest this means nothing to me. Also the computer that is affected I don't use very often, so I won't know much about software and downloads, but I will tell you everything that I know that has happened with to computer recently: The computer has been getting slow, I think this is due to the fact that my brother has 'World Of Warcraft' downloaded and he likes to use 'Curse Client' to download add on's for the game. Messenger Programmes and Software to open Zip Files have been downloaded. A Music Programme for Guitar Tabs was downloaded. The computer recently recovered from 'Antimalwear Doctor' (which was a real pain in the arse to remove), and several Anti Spyware programmes have been downloaded and uninstalled during the process of removing 'Antimalwear Doctor'. Then 'The Blue Screen Of Death' started appearing. The general information for the computer: Microsoft Windows XP, Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3 Dell Dimension DM051, Intel Pentium D CPU 2.80GHz 2.79GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM Other important stuff: Everything that needs to be done to sort out this problem needs to be able to do in Safe Mode, as the computer is literally unusable in Normal Mode. The Internet doesn't work when booted into Safe Mode with Networking, when the computer is on the internet doesn't work on neither the laptop or my personal computer (the affected computer is the main, it has the modem and wireless router), but when off the internet works fine on the laptop and my personal computer. The computer beeps just before login (Normal Mode). I have tried System Restore and restating the computer, I don't have to original disk. I have given you all the information about the computer I can at the moment, I really hope someone can help me out. Thanks for taking the time to read all the information. more

My week old laptop a Asus Aspire have stoped working correctly, I've used it for around 5 hours today online gaming (Warhammer online) then downloaded a 100$ Anti-virus that i got along with it called Viper while finishing the download it started to bog up and stop working to a point where the mouse would move but i everytime i clicked on something it would click but not open and even the microsoft button that brings up my games opened but just showed a kind of white screen as if it was just lagging or bogging up, i don't know if it was this spyware Viper or something else as to do for overheating because i was wearing boardshorts for swiming which doesn't allow air to get to it as much from the bottom but it also has a side vent but i'm really not sure. i did play 5 hour with this pc on my lap though. if you could help me this would be great!Thank you, i tried that battery that does not work.. while letting it cool off should i not have it charging because I've had it on the charger while cooling I'm not sure if that effects it or not if so i will try that before trying to reset it and if i do have to how do i reset my computer? more

Resolved Question: Adware/Spyware Removal?

My friend's laptop has the Anti virus Soft Platinum installed. This software is preventing any other anti virus program on her computer to work. I have tried to install the AVG free software, but it keeps telling me to uninstall the Anti virus Soft Platinum software, but it doesn't show up in the add/remove programs. I have used windows defender, Microsoft windows malicious software removal tool, and Microsoft security essentials software and none of these programs detected the Anti virus Soft Platinum software. I did download spyware doctor and it scanned the computer and found 100 hits of spyware, but the program will not remove the adware/spyware unless I pay for it. I never brought that kind of software before, usually if I get adware/spyware on my computer I just zap it and reload it. I'm thinking that's the best thing to do for my friend but she really doesn't want me too. So any suggestions would be great. more

Resolved Question: I recently had problems with virus, spyware, and malware in my computer......?

.....someone adviced downloading Spy Doctor which I did; I had it run a scan and remove the infections. However, since downloading it, I noticed that my computer is performing very slowly, (even slower than when the infections were present) including the opening of all applications and loging on to the internet. Is this slowness being caused by the fact that in addition to Spy Doctor I also have Microsoft Security Essentials anti-virus running at the same time? more

Resolved Question: browser redirects after being infected by Total PC Defender 2010?

Yesterday, I was getting popups from Total PC Defender 2010. I updated Malwarebytes( ran it which caught and deleted the malware. It asked for reboot which I did. Ran a full scan after that which detected nothing else so i assumed my machine was clean. But, my browser(Firefox 3.6.3) is getting redirected. It is opening sites like surfing2cash and all Stopzilla spyware remover. Ran Spybot search and Destroy which detected Fraudreg and removed it. Looked at the thread http://forums.techguy.org/virus-other-malware-removal/865402-rootkit-tdss-removal-help-needed.html as I suspect I am infected with a rootkit TDSS. Ran TDSkiller(http://support.kaspersky.com/downloads/utils/tdsskiller.zip) which claims my atapi.sys is infected with TDSS. Says, it will be removed on reboot, but the redirects still persist after rebooting. Resolved Question: Computer has a virus I need help?

This is my friends computer and I am trying to help her. She opens IE and gets this message 'azexpertsoft.microsoft.com/block this is where it sends her then a security alert windows reports the computer is infected, anti-virus software helps protect etc. click here to run spyware They want her to pay for the program. I have had this happen to my own and I downloaded Malwarebytes and it got rid of it. However her computer is not letting her do anything and she can't download the malware remover and she can't run her virus scan. We even tried safe mode with no success. Any suggestions?Honestly I don't know. She is trying to explain it to me over the phone. It sounded like the malware that kept taking me to a page that looked like IE but it wasn't. If it is a subdomain of microsoft I am guessing that she probably doesn't have a protected system. It is her work computer and I honestly don't know if she has virus protection. Thanks for your help anyway.Cajun how does she run a virus scan? It wont even let her do it in safe mode. She said she has a virus scanner but when she tries to open it she gets the same error code. more

Resolved Question: Would you trust Microsoft Security Essentials as your only Anti-Virus Software in your computer?

Microsoft Security Essentials, at this time, is the only anti-virus/spyware software I have in one of my computers. So far, it has done an excellent job. Even though I downloaded it about a month ago, I can say it's pretty reliable for my computer does seem to be working fine so far. However, would you trust MSE as your only anti-virus/spyware software in your computer? more

Resolved Question: Vista in denial. I agree with them on this. Do you?

Well almost everyone I meet HATES vista. I don't. I think that if you know how to use a computer and with changing a few settings vista is awesome. It shows clearly that Microsoft is still in denial, preferring to blame the user: ‘That state-of-the-art PC you bought last year might not feel like such a screamer after you install a dozen programs, load it with anti-spyware and anti-virus tools, and download untold amounts of junk from the Internet.’ It's true. I have HEAPS of programs installed, Avast! and Malwarebytes installed and my computer isn't slow. I love it. Sh!t, I like it more than XP. Who agrees with me? more

Resolved Question: Computer Problem please help!?

Hi I had malware and spyware and trojans but I was able to remove them by following this guide http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407 second part is http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=139313 It worked for the most part until the very end and now the only browser I can run is Internet Explorer, I have Mozilla bu that and many other programs I have are now EXE files and ask me what program I want to run in order to open those programs. I currently have installed from that site above the following... CCleaner Superantispyware Malwarebytes anti-malware and COMODO firewall (All of the above programs are now EXE files and wont open unless I choose the correct program to open them, and i dont know which program to use) It tells me I must download the latest verion or java and a safe web browser like Google Chrome or Mozilla(Which I already have but its an EXE file) But whenever I try to download a file I get it as far as the run or dont run option but then it asks what program to use to open it. I am confused to where I went wrong? Also I cant Open the properties option or the add remove option in my computer and even my Acer recovery(to redo the whole system) is an EXE file. It does not even work in safe mode, can someone please help me in to what I must do to get rid of this problem so I can download and open files without the box popping up asking me what program i want to use to open the files? please!!! I also should mention that I have Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows XP installed(But I cant remove this since my add remove wont work when i try and open it. The computer I have is an Acer netbook. more

Resolved Question: Is McAfee able to get rid of XP virus 2010 or do you have to download a special tool to completely remove it?

Hi. My mom got a nasty virus on her cpu. The thing completely locked her out of her cpu. Wouldn't display icons, start menu, nothing. We called microsoft, they gave us back control of the cpu. I was then able to run her McAfee. It said one virus was removed, but wouldn't show me details. I don't know if it was able to remove it or not. It initially blocked her antivirus protection. I googled it and everything says you have to download tools to get rid of it. Some kind of special anti-spyware removal. I just need to know, did McAfee fix it or do I have to download one of the tools to get rid of it. They keep saying anitvirus scanners can't pick it up because it attaches itself to other files and is able to hide from it. Her cpu seems to be running fine now. No more pop ups from the virus telling her to register the product anymore, but is it just a temporary fix? Microsoft was no help in the situation. Their tech didn't even recognize it as a virus. He said it was put on by the internet provider. When I called their tech, they told me that was the virus and that this thing was wreaking havoc on cpus. It wouldn't let microsoft download their free removal tool. It kept blocking the download. Now I don't know which tool to download from their site. After they gave me back control of her cpu I was able to run McAfee, but like I said before I don't know if that fixed it r not. Please if anybody has any insight to this, I would greatly appreciate it. This is beyond me. I know enough about cpus to get by, but that's about it. I don't know anything about viruses. I can fix minor problems, but this thing is not minor. It is a nasty nasty virus. Please help me get it off of there if McAfee couldn't. Thank you so much in advance. Also it was called XP anitspyware 2010 or anitvirus, maybe. Honestly, I don't remember the full name of it. I know the examples in the websites that have the tools to get rid of it look just like what kept popping up on her cpu. Thank you all sooooo much. more

Resolved Question: Security Guide (Updated)?

Here is some few Hints and Tips to keep yourself safe on the Internet: I can see many different types off suggestions to Anti Viruses on this site, therefor I decided to make this guide, I will list some few populare programs. On internet today there are many different threats to consider, viruses can be hidden everywhere and can be transferred through email, USB, Software and internet sites, but the best protection you got against these is Common Sense, you should never open emails which are considered spam, enter sites which got a suspicious name unless your running sandbox mode. Question: There are many different kind off protection you should consider, but there are so many different kinds off software, so which is the best? Answer: There is no "THE BEST" anti virus or anti malware, but some are better then others. It is dependent on how you use it and what you preffer Payed Anti Virus: - Kaspersky Anti Virus ( You can also buy this with Internet Security including different features) - Comodo Anti Virus ( You can also buy this with Internet Security including different features) - Eset Anti Virus «Nod32» ( You can also buy this with Internet Security which is called Eset Smart Security) - Bit Defender - Avast ( You can also buy this with Internet Security including different features, I think) If you are unsure of whetever to download a software most off these will have a "sandbox" mode meaning it will download the software in a virtual envirnment meaning if the file is containing a malicious item it cant harm your PC - Avira (Effective Anti Virus, pretty similar to Avast) - Norton Anti Virus 2010 (Norton has earlier been a overpriced inefficent anti virus but with their new 2010 edition their really impressing me with good detection rate and should be consider a very good anti virus) Free Anti Virus: - Microsoft Security Essentials - Avast Free - Avira free - Comodo Anti Virus - Avg (Biggest Free Anti Virus, but it's not one off my favorites and it is supposed to be highly inefficent) There are many Anti Viruses on the market today, people are taking sides and people are saying their Anti Virus is the best, tests always vary and its up to what you preffer yourself, the one's listed in this guide is amongst the most popular and all are efficent in their own way. Anti Viruses today always have an in-built Anti Malware engine, many off these are efficent in one way or the other but your protection is way below what you would get if you had a 3rd party Anti Spyware/Malware program, You can run all these Programs listed below togheter, though my Personal Favorite is Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware. Payed Anti Malware - SuperAntiSpyware pro - Malwarebytes pro - SpyBot Search&Destroy Free anti malware/spyware - Malwarebytes - Spybot Search&Destroy - SuperantiSpyware (Got more suggestions, post them, but suggest good software) Additional protection: You also got other types off protection, a very important part off your protection is your firewall, it will let you control what applications are allowed access to the internet and other actions. Firewalls: Windows Firewall (Effective, standard with Windows) Comodo Firewall (Comodo.com) Zone Alarm Firewall (Zone Alarm.com) Links are located below: Payed Anti Virus: - Bitdefender.com - Kaspersky.com - Eset.com (Their Free antivirus is Nod32) - Avast.com - Avira.com - Norton.com - Comodo.com (Very easy to navigate) Free Anti Virus: - microsoft.com/security_essentials/mark… - Avast.com - Avira.com - Comodo.com - Avg.com Payed Anti Malware/Spyware - Malwarebytes.com - Superantispyware.com (Superadblocker.com too I think) - http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html Free AntiMalware: - http://download.cnet.com/Spybot-Search-amp-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html - Malwarebytes.com - SuperAntiSpyware.com Web Browser: - FireFox - Google Chrome - Opera - Comodo Dragon (Actually a very very secure browser but with a Plug-In FireFox is supposed to be the most secure browser There is also one last thing to remmember, in order for your protection to be at it's very peak I would reccomend you check for updates ones a week, as thousands off Viruses comes out every day, the need for a updated system is very high. Personal Response: Most or all off these programs are great, though these will not give you a everlasting protection, thousands off viruses are found every day, keeping your programs up to date is vital. You will also need a small portion off common sense and doubt, if you by any means see a spam mail with a link to a site, I would not open it, I would rather leave it tf safe on the Internet: I can see many different types off suggestions to Anti Viruses on this site, therefor I decided to make this guide, I will list some few populare programs. On internet today there are many different threats to consider, viruses can be hidden everywhere andBecause SpyBot is paid you have both Pro and Free. This is not just my tougths, its based on tests, and their very effective in General :), Comodo is not terrible yet it is highly effective though yes its Virus scan is really suckish xD. Please don't give me grammar responds, then your really fucked up, give me responds such as other "GOOD" programs or additional details to thisIf you got any suggestions how to improve this, feel free to add my msn or email me at glenn_Vitti@hotmail.com, and we could perhaps discuss a more comprehensive guide? If you got any suggestions how to improve this, feel free to add my msn or email me at glenn_Vitti@hotmail.com, and we could perhaps discuss a more comprehensive guide?-.-, sorry but cant edit away that annoying double post :).ZoneAlarm is a good Firewall http://www.matousec.com/projects/proactive-security-challenge/results.php This site is not a good site to take facts from seeming it does some weirdo tests and really gives false results. + Comodo gets top marks there -..- more

Resolved Question: microsoft problems (to do with windows live etc)?

I think my computer is having microsoft problems, i can't download anything new from microsoft, i have tried to download the windows live several times but as soon as i click on the link saying download the internet goes white and nothing comes up. The old msn messenger works but i can't download the new one. Then on fanfiction net i was posting stories up until last month when it wouldn't allow me to publish. In a forum someone said they had the same problem saying 'I looked at Fanfiction.net's source code and found it was making links to microsoft.com Stupidly I had a virus which blocked me from connecting to microsoft, so a virus scan with Avast removed the problem and now the site works correctly.' However i've used Avast and it come up with no problems and i tried another anti virius scanner (Spyware) it had minor virius' but i corrected them but still it's not working. Sorry if this is long and doesn't make much sense but i'm rubbish with computers so laymans terms please if you know what's wrong. Thanks. =) more

Resolved Question: My computer keeps logging off at start up.?

At first, I had a virus (the fake anti spyware virus that automatically downloads itself into your computer). I tried to remove that using Malware Bytes. I had successfully removed the virus, but did not manage to fix my other problem that came along with it: I couldn't open my .exe files without having to choose a program to open it with (in some cases, I couldn't even open it at all). Resorting to google, I tried this, in hopes that it would fix my issue: "1. Run Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del or right click on Taskbar) 2. Stop wscript.exe process if available by highlighting the process name and clicking End Process. 3. Then terminate explorer.exe process. 4. In Task Manager, click on File -> New Task (Run…). 5. Type “cmd” (without quotes) into the Open text box and click OK. 6. Type the following command one by one followed by hitting Enter key: del c:\autorun.* /f /s /q /a del d:\autorun.* /f /s /q /a del e:\autorun.* /f /s /q /a c, d, e each represents drive letters on Windows system. If there are more drives or partitions available, continue to command by altering to other drive letter. Note that you must also clean the autorun files from USB flash drive or portable hard disk as the external drive may also be infected. 7. In Task Manager, click on File -> New Task (Run…). 8. Type “regedit” (without quotes) into the Open text box and click OK. 9. Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon 10. Check if the value name and value data for the key is correct (the value data of userint.exe include the path which may be different than C drive, which is also valid, note also the comma which is also needed): “Userinit”=”C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,” If the value is incorrent, modify it to the valid value data " After doing the " del c:\autorun.* /f /s /q /a " it deleted a few things in the registry. Being unsure of whether or not I had fixed my problem, I turned off my computer and restarted it. Now, my issue is that when my computer turns on, it just automatically turns off. Is there any other way to fix this, or do I have to reformat my computer.. once again? If I have to resort to reformatting, is there any possible ways to somehow save my programs and transfer it to a different hard drive or something? Thanks.I've tried starting it up as you said in: - Safe Mode - Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked) Both didn't work for me, however the "last known good configuration" got me as far up to my wallpaper (and nothing else) before the hourglass popped up and kicked me out. Is there anything else to do, or am I just doing this wrong? more

Resolved Question: Is there anyway to download the system restore files for Windows XP?

Hi guys I currently running windows XP and recently got infected with XP anti spyware. I ran microsoft security essentials which got rid of it but it also looks like it (or the virus) has damaged most of the files on the computer. Now when I go to use system restore I get the file not found message and am unable to restore. I no longer have the XP installation disc as a bough the computer several years ago, is there anyway of downloading the files i need off of the internet? Secondly i was thinking of upgrading to windows 7 anyway so would purchasing and installing that wipe all out XP meaning that the any problems i've had would get cleared that way. Would buying windows 7 and starting from scratch be a better idea? more

Resolved Question: The Virus that acst like an Anti Virus Solved?

My computer became infected with virus calld Anti virus 2009. This is pack with alot of little Nastys. It takes control of your computer and blocks the user pretty much from doing anything. Its very time consuming trying to fix.. You can do a boot disk recovery that will solve the problem.. I found the best way was to download Microsoft free anti virus and spyware. It free for 90 days. And it work like a champ. The only real problem is you have restart your computer go into the registry and disable the virus. This is only temporarily. Because once the computer reboots back up again it will be there. But once you download Microsoft free anti virus and spyware it taken out. So the is info on the web to tell you how turn off programs in the registry. You have to search for diabling the virus in your registry. Good Luck your going to need it. Its a real problem as you know. more

Resolved Question: Could there be a trojan or other nasty spyware lurking in my system?

A few days ago, I received an email purporting to be from USP regarding a parcel that had not been delivered to me. I have actually been waiting for a parcel for weeks and foolishly opened the link in the email. Immediately, I received lots of alerts that there was a critical risk/ virus activity etc, and that this had been blocked. I ran a full system scan with my anti-virus software (Norton 360), and it said that it had removed two trojans, one of them twice. I have been running a full scan every day since, and no further problems have been detected. Windows Defender has also found no risks on my computer. However, I ran a Spydoctor scan, which said that it found over 50 tracking cookies, and 3 serious risks of spyware/trojans. I'm wondering if these are false positives, or whether they are risks undetected by Norton and Defender. If so, should I subscribe to Spydoctor aswell? (Also, can I run both Norton and Spyware simultaneously, or would they be incompatible?) I am extremely worried about paying for anything online now, for fear that my credit card details will be stolen. My computer appears to be operating normally, though is a little slower than usual (I wondered if this was due to my having downloaded Spydoctor and the Microsoft Malicious Software tool. I would be extremely grateful for any help. Many thanks.Thank you very much, Tate, for your reply. The information provided by Spydoctor regarding the trojan threats suggested that they were probably "keyloggers" and therefore basically dormant, not actively causing any problems but lying in wait to capture inputted private data such as banking details. The idea of this is very frightening. I just don't know whether I should rest assured with the clean bills of health on my computer given by Norton and Defender - reviews I have read indicate that neither of these are very good at detecting the most sneaky threats. But, then, I can perfectly see that, as you say, any free scan is likely to indicate the presence of threats in order to sell the product. more

Resolved Question: Having computer slowing issues need help!?

Hello, my computer uses windows xp and its very fast while using internet or playing online games or watching you tube videos. Recently it got very slow, it takes a while to load face book, you tube, yahoo and other websites. I used Microsoft security essentials to clean my computer and c cleaner. I then also tried malwarebytes anti walware, super anti spyware and cleaned my computer. I downloaded firefox to see if it was faster and i had been using google chrome. After cleaning facebook was faster but took a while to load pictures while viewing and you tube takes 10 minutes to load one video or more! This is rediculous i want my computer back to normal, please help how do i do this? more

Voting Question: How can i get my computer to boot correctly?

Earlier I kept getting notices from my computer about downloading anti-spyware and how my computer is at risk and how they found a bunch of trojans and worms on my computer. So I opened my McAfee (thats the security I use and I thought it would alert me for any problems) so I checked it, no sweat it said nothing was wrong, so I wrote off the ones my computer was sending me because I was on the internet and I was trying to find a profile layout generator, and I thought that maybe it was false. So just in case I decide to run a virus scan to make sure everything is cool. I walk away from my computer for a few moments, and when i come back my computer is off. So I try to reboot it and it wont work. It refuses to reboot in windows regular. It gets to the little microsoft booting screen and then right before it hits the little chime and windows logo it turns black and just stays like that and wont do anything else. So I tried running a system restore point and a start-up repair in safe mode, I thought it would fix, I try again to reboot it, it does the same thing. But before my computer went haywire my McAfee said nothing was wrong, now here I am in safe mode trying to fix my computer, and McAfee is alerting me about how all my files need attention and how there all at risk. more

Resolved Question: Anti-virus sites, Microsoft.com, etc. are blocked in my browsers, running anti-virus/spyware doesn't fix?

I haven't been able to visit any Microsoft sites for awhile, and most recently my computer became infected with the latest Antivirus 2010 variant (that fake MS look-alike where they try to get you to buy their "anti-virus software"). Anyways, it was incredibly hard to remove it (it wouldn't let me access any anti-virus sites, and even after successfully downloading them from mirrors, it wouldn't let me run them), but I finally got rid of it (I did this by killing the associated processes at start-up before the malware had a chance to fully load, and then running real anti-virus software). Now, the problem is that my browser (both Chrome and Firefox) still cannot access anti-virus sites, as well as microsoft.com, so something leftover from the malware is still blocking these sites. Additionally, I noticed that it is blocking the "update definitions" function in AVG, etc. anti-virus programs from working (I had to use a proxy to download the latest updates). To reiterate, I don't have a virus/malware anymore--at least no desktop-based symptoms, and AVG, SuperAntiSpyware, etc. run clean tests, HOWEVER certain websites (anti-virus websites, microsoft.com, etc.) are still inaccessible to me in Chrome and Firefox. Where is the leftover underlying cause for this, and how do I get rid of it? Thanks in advance! more

Resolved Question: Spyware on my computer?

Whenever I turn on my computer, it takes twice th normal time, the same with logging in. I try to access the internet and I automatically get forwarded to this: http://osadwarekill2009.microsoft.com/block.php?r=59.6 I'm using a different computer right now, my primary is right in front of me and 17 error messages are up after leaving it for a few minutes. Now a minute later, there are 20. I have been told by my 'computer-savvy' brother that it is a virus that says you have a virus to scare you, and gives you a link to it's own anti-virus software that if you download it for a large cost imports the major virus, and it steals all of your passwords etc., and I know not to do that. I am a student so a complete wipe is out of the question. I can't access my actual anti-virus software, because it won't let me load it up. Thanks for any help possible, and I need it soon because I have a 200-point poetry packet due tomorrow and parents' notes can only delay it for so long.Again, I remind you I don't have access to the internet on that specific computer!!! Does America know how to read? more
