My computer was recently infected by a virus and although the pop-ups etc have now gone, I am now faced with the following problems: I am only able to browse the web when opening a jpeg file using explorer - the normal way does not work. So a couple months ago, I downloaded some kind of virus on accidently while trying to watch a wow movie. I tryed using system restore but I think I accidently deleted al my restore points because it says there is no restore points available. My computer has shut its self down with a blue error screen 3 times now in the last week and a half - 2 weeks. I was getting all these pop ups while i serf the internet but my mom installed some pop up blocker. Everytime I open my browser tho it loads to tabs mine is www.myspace.com but it loads another one called http://www.hotebar.com/ that i never set as my homepage. I go in my settings and remove it sometimes but it always comes back. My mom recently gave me this spyware doctor with antivirus for some computer but I havent opened yet. I've been using AVG free antivirus. Basically I want to fix my computer maybe make it run faster or whatever.. Can I restore it or do anything to help? ThxI also forgot to mention, I have no idea where the system disc is. I dont even think I have it. Is there any other options? more

I recently had a virus on my Windows Vista which I removed with Norton Internet Security. The virus was called "Vista Antispyware 2010". After I removed it with the newly-installed Norton Internet Security 2010 version, I realize I could not access the internet direct by clicking on the icon; a window would open asking for me to choose the program I would like to use to open Firefox. It would then ask to run the program but nothing happens and it goes in circles asking to select program to open, run, etc. I soon noticed that clicking on other applications would result in an error message saying "Application Not Found". I can not delete programs from my control panel because it is inaccessable, I can not open Microsoft Office programs directly unless I go to My computer. I can not do a system recovery, or restore; the same messages will pop up. So basically, I can not make any changes to my laptop or access programs directly. Please help. It seemed to have dissociated all my shortcuts and whatnot from the .exe more

I was installing the sims 3, so I left my computer on and came back a few hours later. My computer shut itself down before it was done installing, so the file was corrupt. I uninstalled it from my computer and tried loading it again. Everytime I put the disk in, it asks me if I want to completely uninstall it, even though I deleted all of the files. When I put in the disk it says "Do you want to completely remove the selected application and all of it's features?". If I agree with the pop-up, it will say it's uninstalling, but then when I install it again, it will say the same thing. It's a never-ending loop. I searched the hidden files, and I don't even see any uninstall Sims 3 files... I have already tried to remove the sims 3 using the control panel, and it says it's not there. The short version: My female cat developed chronic diarrhea a couple of weeks ago. The vet determined it was an intestinal infection and sent us home with a round of liquid antibiotics and probiotic capsules. We finished the course of treatment last Wednesday. The poo issue had resolved by the end of treatment, but came back the same as before Friday. We’re headed back to the vet tonight. I’m looking for advice on what the vet should do at this point to figure out what’s causing my cat’s problem once and for all, what questions I need to be asking ect. Most of all, I’m starting to wonder when I should seek an opinion from a different veterinary practice. Background and details: Until about six weeks ago, my 8 year old, altered, 100% indoor female cat had never had any health problems. At that time, she lost a canine tooth. Subsequent vet exams revealed she’d previously lost the other canine on the same side and that at least one remaining canine was loose. She was put under local anesthesia for a cleaning and extraction. Three teeth were removed inc. both remaining canines. She was given an injected antibiotic. She had a CBC and was completely healthy accept that she had a slightly elevated something or other with her kidneys – which the vet wasn’t especially concerned about. The vet could not come up with any reason for her dental issues, but said the rest of her teeth are fine. About three weeks after the extraction, she started having bouts of diarrhea around the house. She would go #1 in the box 100% of the time, and #2 out of the box 100% of the time. The vet said there were white blood cells in the stool sample (based on a fecal stain) so she declared it an intestinal infection. We finished up a 10-day course of antibiotics and probiotics last Wednesday. The vet never indicated that this was in any way related to the extraction or anything she was given during the process – though it strikes me as odd that this problem popped up so soon after the dental work. My cat’s litter box habits had returned to normal by the end of the medication but Friday night the diarrhea returned (inc. doing it outside the cat box) so we’re headed back to the vet tonight. I’m very frustrated because my poor cat has been in isolation for most of the last 2.5 weeks. (We have another cat + a one year old who need to be protected from whatever might be in sick kitty’s feces). My cat’s behavior is totally normal other than what’s happening with her bowl movements. She hasn’t lost any weight and her coat is shinny. She’s eating well and drinking water. more

When the format window is opened and run an alert pops up at the end of the format that says the drive cannot be formatted. All other USB devices work. The USB memory sticks work in other machines. When booted to Ubuntu using a live CD the USB memory works. I've tried removing USB stuff in Device Manager and just about every fix I can find online but so far no one has a solution for this short of reinstalling windows. more

Every time I access my computer normally, my desktop starts loading, and then it will pop up with a message that says "Windows Explorer is not responding..." (Windows Vista) It has never done this before. Open Question: Any Shooting Range Owners From Florida?

In the part of Florida that I live, there is only one range with four stalls. It is expensive as well as run down. People go there only because they have no other place to go within a 50 mile radius. I decided I want to open a range myself and have already obtained so much data that my head is spinning, yet I still have some questions I am having trouble getting answered. I have the Florida State Statutes, County Codes and Zoning, The NRA Range Sourcebook (in the mail), USAF ETL 08-11: Small Arms Range Design and Construction, the EPA CFRs for lead, and have a couple of properties I am looking at in my area that meet code and would be large enough to suffice the range. The range will be an outdoor range that has 50m (X5), 100 m (X5), 300 m(X3), and 1000 m (X2) lanes that will have use a dirt backstop accompanied by a cement block wall. The range will allow for ammunition from .22 cal to .50 cal. Other than delivery of dirt my brother, cousin, dad, and friend will assist me in the construction of the stalls, measuring the Surface Danger Zone/Vertical Danger Zone, backstops, and targets. My cousin and myself are going to Orlando to become Range Safety Officers for insurance purposes. As business takes off I will be adding a skeet shoot and a tactical/obstacle course with pop-up targets and CQB scenarios, but those are not in the making yet (not until I have an established business). The building where business will be conducted will need to have retail space for accessories, gear, ammo, and guns for sale/rent (I have an application for an FFL but until I have a location of business I cannot send it in). I will also need a 125ft X 125ft room for conducting NRA, CCW, and security courses as well as offer free hunting courses (All but the hunting courses will be taught by either myself or my cousin). A bathroom and breakroom are requirements for a security training facility in my state. I know what is needed by the county, state, EPA, and BATFE in regards to licensing and regulations for the range and firearms, what I am not sure of is the business aspect. I was hoping someone who owns a range in Florida could help answer the few questions that I have left. Q1: I know the average mark-up for firearms and accessories in the area, but how can I find the cost of the firearms and accessories (wholesale/dealers price) or of any price breaks for bulk orders? The distributors will not talk to me until I have my FFL and I cannot get my FFL without a place for business and I cannot get a place of business without a business loan from a bank. Due to the economy and my age, 24, I am going to have to go to the bank with a DETAILED business plan and explain how they will get there money back. Q2: How do you pay a business loan back? Do you pay monthly payments (i.e. mortgage/car payment) or do you pay in back in a lump some with in so many years? If so what is the time frame it is to be paid back in? Q3: Do you know of any good insurance companies to cover my business (in Florida) and if so how much does it cost? Again they will not talk to me until I have a business. Q4: How much do lead removal services cost? The EPA mandates that a company has to come and remove lead from my dirt back stops and I'm sure it is not free. If I have the equipment am I allowed to do it myself? Q5: If you own an outdoor range in Fl, do you mind telling me an estimated cost of construction supplies for your outdoor range? Q6: I am looking a buying a large piece of land and I'm probably not going to find one with a building on it that suits my needs. Any ideas/suggestions on new construction vs. other options I am unaware of such as portable buildings (if they have them) Q7: What are the state and federal taxes (estimate of course) for running such a business in FL? Please, refrain from JUST telling me that this is an expensive business and that it will fail. I now that it will be expensive and that is why I need a DETAILED business plan for the bank. I am hoping for help with the few financial questions left to determine the over all cost and revenue I will need to acquire. Tuesday I had all four wisdom teeth removed. One of the wisdom teeth had a cyst around it. In order for my dentist to take out my cyst he cut into my cheek slightly. Well I popped the stitches out thursday and now I have a hole really close to where the tooth was but slightly on the cheek. I have no temperature, no infection or swelling. I am scared I will get food down in this hole. I have been swishing with salt water often and using oragel mouth wash-this is for minor surgery or mouth infections. I recently got this virus/scam for security. It's called Vista Internet Security 2010. So then i went to my Task Manager and tried to remove av.exe ( the virus ) But it didnt work( it says something like i need to remove or disable inherit) so i went into its properties and to Security and denied the permissions for all groups/usernames for av.exe Then i removed av.exe and yeah it was gone now from my task manager ----but i think i messed something up---- I was so relieved that nothing came popping up anymore and the scamming thing was gone but when i went to my desktop and tried to open one of my applications this appears: windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to acces the item BUT when i right click on an icon for ex. Mozzilla Firefox...i right click on it and saw "start" then it opened. It happens on MOST of my applications. On the right click i also tried "OPEN" but i get that warning thing i mentioned before So i always have to right click and click on "start" to open it So do you know anyway to put this back to normal?????!!! please HELP more

I was surfing the web last night and after a new page loaded Windows XP Antispyware popped up saying things like "Privacy Threat", "System Hijack", "Stealth Intrusion", then it was followed by further messages that said there was a possible spyware, trojan, or some other malicious infection on my computer. I ran Norton Antivirus. Nothing. So I used the Norton Removal tool, took off Norton System Works/Antivirus and ran Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool. Nothing. I upgraded Norton to Norton 360 and ran that. Nothing. But the XP Antispyware scan says there are 25 infections and I can't access the internet. XP Antispyware keeps popping up every 2 seconds with new warnings. But the thing is, I don't have a subscription to Antispyware so I can't run a full scan and remove the infections that it claims my laptop has. Any idea what's going on and how to fix it? more

For the past couple of months, I have been having problems nearly every day with spyware and adware. First the spyware: Nearly every day, Vista Antispyware 2010 will install itself and I have to run a simple .exe program called "Remove Fake Antivirus" that does a scan and remove it. The only way I thought of removing it is by changing my computer to a day before the malware appeared on my computer. Please anyone help me! I'm not good on computers. It will be greatly appreciated! Open Question: The Vista Guardian 2010 virus, how do I relieve my laptop of this horrid virus?

This is the second time Pumpkin has been infected with these damn Vista viruses, only this time I fear there's no coming back. The first time I encountered this virus it called itself "Vista Internet Security 2010" and since that first fake trial scan it tried to pull, it was nothing but frustrating as pure hell. After a few weeks of no access to my personal account, I was ready to call it quits and give up trying to rid myself of this virus, but luckly it hadn't been able to force it's way into my laptop's second account, which was how I was able to rid Pumpkin of the virus. But had it not been very long since the small victory, it returned with a vengeance, and worse... A friend. Now my current delima is with, not only one, but two of these viruses. On my account I was attacked a second time with a newly name virus called "Vista Guardian 2010" which has proved to be a even greater pain then it's previous friend. It's "friend" has managed to somehow sneak on to my separate account, out of no where, and is called "Vista Antivirus Pro". Since then I have lost the ability to access almost any option on my laptop such as Internet Explorer, Panda virus scan, though not any documents or personal files have been stopped from access. This has become a large problem for me, and I fear the worst now that I no longer have the usual pop-up's from the virus nor have I seen it's annoying icon on the dock. My father and I have tried a few different removal tactics, but none have been able to work and I hate to believe this is it for Pumpkin. If there is anyone out there that could help me remove this monster of a virus, I'd be extremely greatful for your help. more

Open Question: Ladies only... was my sister right to permanently injure this boy?

Well maybe this isn't the right category for this, but I'm not sure what is (& I wanted to avoid any sensitive guys). My little sister Amy whose 16 was at school a few days ago. And a 17 year old guy went up and grabbed her under her skirt, like grasping her bum and feeling all around. He grabbed hard and felt between her legs too, like really molesting her! Well she turned round and hauled off and kicked him really hard, in the groin! She had heavy shoes on (like steel) as she is a goth. Anyway the guy fell down and cried. Amy then shouted at him calling him a perv and told him that she hoped his balls popped. The teacher see this and pulled her into the office while the boy was on the floor in a lot of pain. Later my parents went to the school. The principle decided that Amy should be suspended for a week. However the boy is also going to have the week suspension put on his record. Although he was unlikely to be able to return to school too soon anyway, due to the extent of his injuries! Amy really kicked him hard, and with such hard shoes. The boy had surgery and the doctors repaired his left testicle that had been ruptured, although due to the damage sustained the testicle will not be able to function. The boys right testicle had to be removed, due to it having multiple ruptures. He also had permanent damage to the tissue of his penis. We found out he won't be able to have sex now!... I mean no manly sexual ability, from now on (ever)!!! The boys mother and my parents have actually managed to come to an agreement about this matter now though, and the police agreed not to get involved. So that should be the end of it. Amy is not happy at being suspended though, as she feels that it was self-defense and their were people who saw the incident that backed her story up. I do agree with Amy in the respect that the boys injuries are as a direct result of his actions, and that she shouldn't be held responsable for injuries he suffered. 1. Do you think she did the right thing? 2. What would you have done? 3. Do you feel bad for the guy, or do you think its his own fault and what he deserved? 4. What do you think about him being unable to have sex (or sexual pleasure) now!?? 5. He's also ALWAYS bothering this other girl at school about 'wanting' her. I have 3 files that are constantly reacurring on my download list. Their download speed is about the speed of a dead cat and I wanat to terminate those downloads ..There is the option ''close connection'' but after a while it pops up again! How do I stop these downloads? Also-why are there some files that you can ''remove all'' and why can't you do this to all files, just some? more

Open Question: I made a Tattoo Mistake...Help?

OK so this might be a pointless question but I figured I would ask anyhow. I got a name, (i know what you thinking A NAME) yes a name tattooed in a very visible spot. Had I been smart and not pissed off I would have thought rational enough to get it removed, but then I made an even bigger mistake and got it covered up.... It is HORRIBLE and this is not an understatement. Not only is it ugly but you can still see the name. Another tattoo artist wont touch it (FYI what the artist dont tell you is that to cover up a tat the next one is going to bigger). In my cause about two times the size. Options: well I really don't have any so i've left it alone and wear a cuff to cover it up. People always think I am wearing a wrist brace and ask me if I am ok. Its terrible. The make up in the bottle that will cover up wont help and is only for a one day temporary fix. So what does that leave me with. A doc visit once every three months that cost 300 bucks a pop that will take two years, that's 1,200 a year. The other problem is that the ink is dark black brown and green with bits of blue. All of which the doc has told me will not respond to the light well. The best reassurance is that they can make it light enough to get another one....I do not want another one :( What a horrible reminder or a person who is no longer in my life....So you can pretty much say I'm up the creek without a paddle. I guess I am looking for anyone else who has had some what of the same problem...i mean I cant be the only one? Also what have you done about it? If you did get it removed can you tell me your experience? And for you doc's out there If you would like to help! I would be forever greatful. I cried about it for months and now I have just accepted that I made the biggest mistake ever... serious comments only please.. more
