Open Question: Help with reinstalling my laptop with the disc it came with?

I have a dell latitude d600 and it came with a disc. In case it crashes or whatever u can re put everything back on it. Well been having it for like a year and then either a virus or adware got to it. The screen is black(background)and says spyware has infected ur computer and buy this to remove it. Can't go to the internet or anything. A friend of mine told me all I had to do was pop in the disc that came wit it and follow instructions. So I popped it in and it went thru some things like saying upgrading ur windows and stuff. All was moving along fine then it went to a black screen with a cursor blinking at the top and been that way for like 15 mins?what should I do? Also am I suppose to delete everything from the computer before inserting the disc?kinda scared to do that it may not work at all if I do?I'm lost and need help. Thanks more

Hi, When I login to online banking, it will usually ask user name, then a security question, then password with a security image displayed. Now, when I click login, there is a box for you to fill up your account number, PIN, expiration date.. LOL! I remembered my wife accidentally installed "antivirus xp" two days ago. It took me hours to remove that thing until yesterday I noticed strange during login in my bank's website. So I use other computer for my online transactions. But I have to fix this. I'ved done : 1. Delete history areas in my computer, reinstall explorer 8 2.Online scan with windows live one care ( some malwares removed) 3. Scanned with AVG free ed, bit defender free ed, Super anti spyware, Spybot search and destroy, CA anti spyware, trojan remover, yahoo pest patrol in safe mode) Avast, PCtools antivirus. While some virus and spywares were removed, this stuborn login screen is still causing me headache, Though I cleared IE history. Thi never happened in Firefox and Google chrome in the same computer. Yesss, I admit, I'm a DOWNLOAD FREAK! And it went to a terrible situation on my computer. I have over 36 viruses. It said It can be very harmful. I have like... Trojan, Worm Spyware... I am using System Mechanic Professional and it tells me that my computer is infected with a parasite, so I press "repair" and when it starts to say "cleaning" my screen then goes completely blue and it reboots, its done this a million times. Open Question: Ok, so I went out and bought McAfee Security Center and it tells me I have AVG 7.1 Still on my computer.. wtf?

Ok, recently AVG released a new update that did something with the user32.dll file that pretty much made a whole lot of peoples systems go nuts, some were unaffected.... However, my system was one of the not so lucky ones. I uninstalled AVG 8.5 and then I went out and bought McAfee Security Center and started to download it because I wanted an all-in-one security to make it much easier on me. When McAfee was almost done it told me it could not complete the process because AVG VirusScan 7.1 is still on my computer.... WTF?? I had AVG 8.5 not 7.1 first off, and second in attempt to find any left over files, I have shown all hidden files, went to add-remove programs, searched with the search function and clicked search WHOLE computer many times, AND downloaded a TON of malware/spyware/virus programs to see if I could find a sneaky corrupted file, but NOTHING has appeared.... im clueless... this is very annoying and i cant go too long without virus protection nowadays because of those no-life douchebag virus creaters are making too many, if only there was a way to find and beat the living piss out of em all >.< PLEASE HELP I already tried AVG remover and all the other remover junk as well....ughthank you all for ur quick responses, however; i have ccleaner, didnt find it i cant reinstall because the damn AVG installer says when it gets toward the end of the download that the process cannot be completed due to some HKEY error i cannot find this KEY anywhere in regedit.......argh this is hopeless i think i might have to go unprotected and try to defend myself against any oncoming viruses *sigh* *punch self in face*Ok, I realize u guys are trying to help but the problem is that i cant reinstall AVG then make sure i wipe every file because AVG says theres an error with the install..... plus it says i have AVG VirusScan 7.1 when i downloaded 8.5.... I had the paid AVG 8.5 .Then it started saying that the anti virus and anti spyware was outdated. I ran a virus check with StopSign and it showed that AVG was infected. I removed it from my programs and installed the Free Norton 2009 last night. It ran great and the computer was doing much better. BUT today it is saying the same thing about the anti virus and anti spyware being outdated now with Norton!!! What do I look for to find the virus or does it have to go to the shop to be fixed? more

it was running fine for a few days and i noticed some unwelcome files and folders under C drive. they are named : RECYCLER , System Volume Information. i am very sure that there are not there in the first place. Resolved Question: How do I remove Veoh TV?

I downloaded Veoh TV on my computer a long time ago. I had no problems until they kept pestering me to upgrade and I was unable to download videos until I upgraded so I did. Now my computer is infested with spyware and I can't uninstall Veoh TV. I have gone to Control Panel and tried the Remove or Change Programs but it doesn't show up there. They program doesn't allow me to uninstall its add-ons, I can only disable them. There isn't even an uninstall option in the Veoh folder or anywhere. I even downloaded software to remove it but it didn't show up on the menu. :( What do I do to remove it?What is "OS"? more

Open Question: Help on repairing my laptop?

My laptop became infected with trojans and spyware because of a doggy download which opened a hole for this stuff to spread. That rouge software winPc defender installed itself onto my computer. Although I was able to get rid of that pretty quickly and other stuff as well (using norton360, spybot and spyware doctor) that annoying "Insecure Internet Activity. Threat Of Virus Attack" message kept coming up, I also found that whilst using google i would be redirected to pages not relevant to what a had search for (such as blinkx or myspace video) Using smitfraudfix I was able to remove that message But since I have used smitfraudfix my laptop has been running very slowly and has been crashing and failing seemingly at random. Whenever i try a google search on IE7 it still directs me to blinx and other places that I DID NOT type into the search engine and so I began to lose patience and I downloaded firefox3. Despite countless scans and checks nothing ever comes up so I suspect some spyware or malware may have sneaked its way undereath so that it is virtually impossible to detect. After Any suggestions on what I may have done wrong and how I can get my laptop to run as smoothly as possible? The antivirus/ antimalware software I have on my laptop is: Windows Live One Care, Spyware Doctor, Registry Mechanic, Spybot, Malwarebytes Its going to be hard to back things up whilst there is still some malware hidden so what can be done? more

Okay.... so I upgraded a computer for a friend of a friend, and now they're asking me how much they owe me. Problem is, I don't know how much. I don't want to charge too little and feel ripped off, but I don't want to charge too much when it's unnecessary. I installed Office 07, McAfee Security Suite, discovered and removed several viruses/spyware/unnecessary programs etc, installed new RAM, and did a thorough system cleaning. Open Question: A spyware is downloaded on my computer. How do i get rid of anitvirus pro?

my computer has recently downloaded anti-virus pro which happens to be a spyware and i need to remove it immediatley. how do i do that? cause everytime i go through the control panel and into the add/remove program and delete it manually it seems to pop up again. This have been the 3rd week since I've had pop up coming on my computer and am getting pissed off about this. When I am trying to do my assignments BOOM there goes a pop up and then my computer freeze. have a anti virus and I removed all threats on my computer then BOOM another pop up appears.Every 5 minutes I get pop up ads or I hear advertisement and there's nothing on. Resolved Question: There is a strange folder on my computer!?

It is called "tracing" and it has 2 folders inside it one is called "WPPMedia" and it has nothing in it and the second is called "WindowsLiveMessenger-ucappi0.ucappilog" I did not create this folder and when I try to remove it it says I cant because it is in use,my anti virus/spyware have not picked it up and could it have been put on to monitor me or is it a normal computer folder? So i downloaded spyware doctor and did the scan and tried ot remove the infected files but i had to pay. I had malware bytes and did the same and it seemed to remove ever virus EXCEPT antivirus. So i went on control panel and tried to remove the virus manually but wasn;t there and a walkthrough said to use the search option to find it. So i searched and it couldn't find it. literally i'm stuck. most of the walkthroughs i find don't make sense and the ones that do don't help. i've downloaded things to get rid of it and just it dosen't work or i need to pay. Resolved Question: Why is my laptop being so slow?

A friend of mine tried to download an emulator on FrostWire but he downloaded the wrong one and I'm pretty sure I got a virus. My computer has been incredibly slow. I can't watch movies anymore because either the picture won't show up, it freezes every few seconds, or the picture and sound are out of sync. It's getting really annoying. Anyways, I've run several scans using SUPERAntiSpyware, Trend Micro PC-Cillin, and Advanced System Care 3. They all found stuff like spyware and adware and everything was removed. My internet was off while the scans were running. I've restarted the computer tons of times. It's still so slow though and I don't know what else to do. I've deleted cookies, ran a disk defrag, and ran a disk cleanup. Why is my laptop still going so slow? P.S. This laptop is basically falling apart, and I'm only using it until my new one arrives in a week or two. So I'm not gonna spend any money to fix this. If you could recommend a free program that may fix this, I'm all for it. more

I have run cwshredder and it detects a trojan in msconfig.exe. for some reason no virus or spyware scanner will show it. I have fun superanti spyware,avg,malware bytes. none of them detect it. I click the fix button in cwshredder and it says it removes it but then when I restart it's back. more

I started having terrible trouble with unwanted windows opening up while on the internet. Some of them were horrible porn. I have parental controls set to block this stuff and pop up blockers on and AVG anti virus/spyware, etc etc...but it was still invading my computer...I found something called "system search dispatcher" listed in my add/remove programs file (I looked at this on the suggestion of another Y/A user who had answered my previous question related to the same problem) When I search the web on what this "is"...I found very little...care to help elaborate ?I also reset my controls to clear my history, passwords, cookies etc etc every time I log off to try and cut down on this "silliness"Old-Timer...thanks for the suggestion, but I have already cleared my history and also beefed up my blocker to the highest setting...it's still getting through...(sigh) more

So I found out that I had this trojan virus or something, but I intalled this SystemSuite 8 thing, and I think it took care of the virus. This laptop is brand new got it literaly over 31 days ago and it has been working very well. I recently (last night) downloaded the blackberry desktop utility from the blackberry website and with it came the Roxio Media Manager. Roxio is well known for its "Update Manager" from Macrovision that is a straight pain in the ass and impossible to remove and when I had seen this I read up on it and tried to do a PC restore to a two days earlier. This had no prevail so for now I un ticked it from the start up menu but my computer is not performing as quikly as it did before. I have fully scanned it with Norton and found no spyware so I am wondering if I can wype and restart this laptop, it is so new that I wont lose any important data as there is none. But a few question before I do, will it cause my computer to perform even slower? And will it mess anything up? Also how exactly would I go about doing that? Voting Question: HELP ME MY COMPUTER JUST BROKE!!!!!!!!!!?

Ok, I'm using my friend's computer now but basically what happened before with my computer was that I was literally on the internet, listening to some music on youtube, doing my normal thing when out of nowhere everything in the screen suddenly cut out, followed by the sound disappearing a few seconds afterwards. Ever since then, I've tried on many numerous ocassions to restart the computer but all that happens is, the computer tower makes its normal humming sound and of its fan etc., signalling it's attempting to start up, but nothing comes onto the screen, and nothing really turns on. I've already checked all the connective wiring and its all firmly connected, and I've completely outruled any possibility of a virus/spyware e.tc, as this issue clearly lies within some sort of faulty circuitry. The only clue I have of a possible link to the current predicament is that one of the CD players on the computer tower has a constant flashing led light on it and if I get near to it I can hear a slight scratchy sort of sound, a CD may or may not be jammed in there, of course I have no way of knowing as I am unable to open the CD player, either the normal way, or by using the special tiny button which is also meant to do it. I've tried opening up my computer to take the CD drive out manually but once doing so I realised that I didn't actually know how to remove it. I tried, but I was worried I might break something. Please can somebody help me come to a solution to this problem, preferably someone who knows a decent amount of IT, as I thought I did, but aparrently not enough to solve my problem. I have an hp pavilion ze4900 laptop running on Windows XP Professional, and it seems to have become infected with whatever virus/spyware/malware that redirects all searches through overclick.cn. I have run superantispyware, malwarebytes, hijackthis, and spybot s&d, but no success. The only thing I haven't tried is combofix, but I'm told it's not safe to run if you don't have specific instructions. I've been using the okcupid.com site for the past couple of months. It's a cute site and I actually like it, but the problem is it has twice installed spyware/adware and I have had to remove trojan viruses from it as a result of the site the past two months. Resolved Question: Laptop running slow, any ideas?

I've been trying to get my parents' laptop running properly for a while now, I've defragged, cleaned the registry, removed programs, run virus and spyware scans (nothing found) and reinstalled Windows XP twice over the last 3 years. It's been steadily getting slower and slower over a period of months and now it's running slower than mollasses in winter. :-( I can't quite figure out what's wrong, it's only got 512MB of RAM but it's not running much other than a couple of photo editing programs and internet access. There are lots of processes running in Task Manager but I can't see anything suspicious. Could it be a physical problem?thanks Mickey L, I'll try clearing the cache, I can't remember if I've done that yet, I just ran all the tools in CCleaner. I neglected to mention the CPU usage is light - only about 20% - but the RAM is being gobbled up like crazy. Spyware Doctor is a lisenced 1 year copy and AVG is a trial one which expires in mid july 09. At the moment AVG is running but spyware doc isn't. So I have this new laptop that works on Vista. And it has Norton 360 protection but some new program that keeps popping up says I have viruses, spyware, stuff like that. And it's the first time I've seen this message. It keeps popping up from a window security alert and won't go away until I register which I can't because I have no money to pay for it. So to get rid of it I had the idea of doing a system restore which I did with a back up disc Norton made but it says it didn't work successfully and so the irritating alert pop up is back. Now I'm thinking about doing a complete system restore and using the back up disc made earlier because the laptop came with no disc whatso ever, I mean none. Any suggestion or instructions on doing the whole wipe successfully or a way to get the very irritating message removed? more
