Semitic Deity Questions asked

Resolved Question: Why some people tend to insult other people's beilef?

For instance, the Christians saying that Mohamed was a pedophile because he married with a 9 years old girl, but forgetting the fact that Joseph married with a 12 years old girl, at the age of 90! We can't judge the historical facts by today's standards, I think. Another example is that atheists/deists say that Jesus was the son of a prostitute, he was an illegitimate child, and he was not the son of God, Mary wasn't a virgin at all, she had a sexual intercourse with Joseph in the hay-barn...etc. Also, the Jews claim that a prophet who is not of Jewish origin is fake. I think, after all, the Jews and Arabs are both Middle Eastern and both Hebrew and Arabic are belong to semitic language family. By the way, the Buddhists claim that all the religions originated from the Middle East are full of blood-shed and they were spread by wars for imperialistic purposes (crusaders, arabic invasions, jewish invasions...etc). In my opinion, all the religions have an ancient/mythological background and they can't be judged, because it's between the believer and the creator (or whatever deity/energy you may call it). more

Resolved Question: Do Christians use idolatry such as the symbol of the fish because they bite so well?

ichthys-fish The pre-Christian history of the fish symbol: In China, Great Mother Kwan-yin often portrayed in the shape of a fish. In India, the Goddess Kali was called the "fish-eyed one" In Egypt, Isis was called the Great Fish of the Abyss In Greece the Greek word "delphos" meant both fish and womb. The word is derived from the location of the ancient Oracle at Delphi who worshipped the original fish goddess, Themis. The later fish Goddess, Aphrodite Salacia, was worshipped by her followers on her sacred day, Friday. They ate fish and engaging in orgies. From her name comes the English word "salacious" which means lustful or obscene. Also from her name comes the name of our fourth month, April. In later centuries, the Christian church adsorbed this tradition by requiring the faithful to eat fish on Friday - a tradition that was only recently abandoned. In ancient Rome Friday is called "dies veneris" or Day of Venus, the Pagan Goddess of Love. Throughout the Mediterranean, mystery religions used fish, wine and bread for their sacramental meal. In Scandinavia, the Great Goddess was named Freya; fish were eaten in her honor. The 6th day of the week was named "Friday" after her. In the Middle East, the Great Goddess of Ephesus was portrayed as a woman with a fish amulet over her genitals. The fish symbol: "... was so revered throughout the Roman empire that Christian authorities insisted on taking it over, with extensive revision of myths to deny its earlier female-genital meanings...Sometimes the Christ child was portrayed inside the vesica, which was superimposed on Mary's belly and obviously represented her womb, just as in the ancient symbolism of the Goddess." 4 Another author writes: "The fish headdress of the priests of Ea [a Sumero-Semitic God] later became the miter of the Christian bishops." 5 The symbol itself, the eating of fish on Friday and the association of the symbol with deity were all taken over by the early Church from Pagan sources. Only the sexual component was deleted. Why do Christians use the pagan symbol of the fish ?Hi Lone Dissenter 4th time round, Thank you for taking the time to submit an appeal. Resolved Question: What could be a perfect universal name for God?

I may not believe in God but I've always wondered, with everyone using the name God to refer to God, what is the true name of God? For a start, God isn't even a name. There many names that came before we referred to God as God or Deus, Here are a few examples. 1. YHWH, also YHVH, JHVH, Yahweh. It might interest you to know that Jehovah is actually incorrect, which is why I didn't mention it earlier. The name Jehovah actually came from the German translation of the Bible. There is a Greek form of Yahweh called Iao, or Ιαου, which was later translated as Ιαουε. The E at the end of Ιαουε is actually an addition. In English translations of the Bible, YHWH is substituted with LORD. 2. Elohim. This is dervied from the name of a Levantine deity known as El, which brings us to the next example. 3. El. El is the Northwest Semitic word for "god" or "deity". In my view, El is probably the best candidate as El very similar to God in so many ways. In the Semitic and Canaanite religion, or Levantine religion as a whole, El was a supreme god, the father and creator of mankind and all creatures, and he was the husband of Asherah. Note: Asherah is the same goddess worshipped by the Isrealites while they were still polytheistic, this was basically pre-Christian earth or mother goddess traditions. Going back to El, everything mentioned before the note above matches the description of God. The difference is that God isn't depicted as having Asherah as a wife. Sources: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_(deity) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Names_of_God#Judaism There are tons of other names for God, like El-Shaddai. But what do you think is the true name for God and would it make a perfect universal name for God? Since there are so many other names with similar meanings, I'm not gonna force you to stick with the examples. Just no made up names, that's all.For those of you who say the name God has worked for thousands of years, you're wrong. We never referred to the deity as God until relatively recently, around the Medieval ages.Stop suggesting stupid made up names! I said no made up names! more

Resolved Question: There is nothing to create, "God" has always been?

"It says in the beginning God created heavens and earths and many people love this verse but elohim means "the gods." so it reads in the beginning the gods created the heavens and the earth I then find out El was the supreme god, father of humankind, and creator of all creatures on earth. The word El was found in the ruins of the Royal Library of the Ebla civilization in the archaeological site of Tell Mardikh (Syria) and dated to c. 2300 BCE. Tablets found in excavations at Ugarit (written c. 1300-1200 BCE) named El’s wife; she was the Goddess Asherah (Hebrew אשרה - ASHRH). Asherah was a major Semitic mother goddess who was worshipped in ancient Israel as the consort of El and in Judah as the consort of Yahweh. Of course this was some time before YHVH was transformed to a male-only deity. (http://www.thenazareneway.com) So all throught the Old testament is not describing God but the gods and how they viewed the world, including there many killings and wanting of sacrifices...... yet many people still believe this till this day, who is to blame? The Churches or people just not wanting to research? more

Resolved Question: Was Emperor Constantine's adoption of Christianity a spiritual conversion or political expediency?

The triumphal arch of Constantine, built in 315 by the senate of Rome after his "conversion," contains reliefs of Jupiter, Mars and Hercules, and Constantine apparently associated his victory at the Milvian Bridge with the power of the sun, but no Christian symbol can be found on the structure and there is no reference to Christ; however, there are images and homage paid to Mithras, another sun god whose birthday is December 25th (Emperor's State of Grace). Constantine may not have completely established the date of Christmas, but what is clear is that he had considerable influence in setting the date of December 25 as Christ's birthday. Constantine did not want Easter to be celebrated on the Jewish Passover either, for he believed and stated that it was a Christian "duty to have nothing in common with the murderers of our Lord," (Nicea Ruling…) most certainly an anti-Semitic view. Now, with the date of Easter firmly established, the church after the fall of the Roman Empire grew enormously in power and prestige over the majority of Western Europe, which leads to the final absorption of the ancient sun archetype into the church in the symbol of artistic halos. The connection of deity to the sun is incredibly ancient, with both earthly kings and rulers assuming the role of sun deity, and the natural progression was one of transmuting Christ into the role of the ultimate source of light, the contribution of Constantine quite apparent. Why is Constantine law still religiously followed? .As far as Constantine's mother Helena ....According to tradition, Helena ordered the temple torn down and chose a site to begin excavating, which led to the recovery of three different crosses. Then, refusing to be swayed by anything but solid proof, the empress had a woman who was already at the point of death brought from Jerusalem. When the woman touched the first and second crosses, her condition did not change, but when she touched the third and final cross she suddenly recovered and Helena declared the cross with which the woman had been touched to be the True Cross. However Matthew 15........ 9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. . more

Resolved Question: What significance does tree-worship by the ancients have in modern day Paganism?

The worship of trees through history has been a common practice throughout much of Europe, and even the Old Testament contains references to sacred groves and to semites setting up altars under trees such as sacred oaks, which was associated with the semitic mother goddess Asherah. Representations of tree trunks in stone pillars can be found in the standing stones or menhirs of western Europe, and a further stage involved either placing a mask on the tree or pillar to represent the deity within or carving them to represent a god or goddess. In ancient Egypt it was believed that spirits dwelt in sacred sycamores that existed on the border between this world and the next, and Persian mythology also contains references to trees as dwelling places of deities. The druids practiced oak-worship, and their name means, "knowing the oak tree," in Celtic. In Norse mythology there is a World Ash Tree called Yggdrasil; the mythology tells us its roots reach down to the underworld and its branches reach up to the heavens. What lore is associated with trees in your religion, and what, if any in your opinion, present day practices resemble or may have been distantly or directly derived from ancient tree-worship?-correction- the Celtic language group. Thanks for the awesome answers. ..just to clarify, I'm not saying modern pagans worship trees, worship is derived from worth-ship, and, though modern connotation often brings a different meaning, I think I was intending to use the word as if it was interchangeable with venerated or sacred in that regard. I think I meant to emphasize the significance of the lore, history, and other symbolism involved. more

Resolved Question: Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and give to G-d what is G-d's:?

Did the Islamic inhabitants (converted) of Anatolia done that effectively? Since Caesar is well renowned in pre-Islamic Anatolia, well through the Byzantine, the Islamic inhabitants (converted) completely forgot about Caesar (and no longer needed to give to Caesar or an entities with the title of Caesar) and supposedly followed the instruction of giving what belongs to G-d; or Allah the semitic deity of Ishmael, and Arabia. Caesar was worshiped (imperfect indicative active) in Anatolia because his Trojan forebear Aeneas whose mother is Venus lived there, until the Greeks sacked them. Aeneas son is Julus, whose descendant is Julius Caesar, conqueror of present day France. Secondly, was the Turks from Central Asia the Caesar of China and India? If the Turks defeated the Mongols, and the Mongols defeated China and India, then Turks must be the Caesar of Asia. I think there is some debates however that the Chinese are known to be the most effective turk-killers, perhaps because they are numerous like the Roman Senate against Caesar, and that god in Chinese must be brothers and sisters moving harmoniously in multitudes i.e. dragon, or dinosaurs in nerdy cases. Two types of Turks: original inhabitants, and the conquering migrants. The history of Turkey must be as complex as a huge tome. It is probably a tome of Satan; death death and death. Alexander the Great is probably in that tome also because Temple of Artermis needed to be burned down when Alexander the Great was born. See Pergamum. more

Resolved Question: What influences did the Greek or other pantheons have on Islam?

One very general association is that Islamic holy days fall on fixed dates of the lunar calendar, but I am looking for specific associations to specific pantheons. For example: The Pagan deities best known in the Ka`ba and round about Mecca were Lât, `Uzzâ, and Manât. They were all female goddesses. Lât almost certainly represents another wave of sun-worship: the sun being feminine in Arabic and in Semitic languages generally. "Lât" may be the original of the Greek "Leto", the mother of Apollo the sun-god (Encyclopædia of Islam, I., p. 380). http://us.geocities.com/mabcosmic/articl… The information above is concerning the Ka`ba, but I am looking for other associations as well. more

Resolved Question: cthulhu is in the bible and qur'an, who knew? (includes wall of text, sorry)?

In Arabic, Khadhulu means "abandoner" or "forsaker." The term is thus used in the Koran 25:29 by Muhammed the Prophet, where it states, "For Mankind Satan [in Arabic, Shaytan] is Khadhulu." Muslim commentators have traditionally taken this to mean that Satan is a forsaker of mankind - on Judgment Day, Satan will forsake those who followed him in this life. However, as Khadhulu is used extensively in the Arabic Necronomicon to refer to a powerful deity, and is translated by Theodorus as xthulu and by Olaus Wormius in Latin as Cthulhu, it is possible to translate this verse as "For mankind Satan is Cthulhu" thus identifying the entity Cthulhu, worshiped by a cult of pagan Arabs before Muhammed, with the Satan of Judeo-Christian tradition and; The Semitic cultures in particular, in all their various branches throughout the Middle East, retain vestiges of ancient Cthulhu worship. One of the oldest Semitic languages is Assyrian, which originated in the second millenium B.C. and which shows clear references to Cthulhu worship. A common word for "demon" in Assyrian is alu'u (1). When this word is combined with the Assyrian word khatu(2) meaning "ominous" or "evil", the result is khatu alu'u, and is clearly related philogically to Cthulhu. An ancient Babylonian scribe makes reference to "alu'u lemnu sha pa la ishu atta," meaning "The alu' (demon) who has no mouth." (3) This could refer to Cthulhu himself, whose face is a mass of tentacles, and therefor appears as a demon who has no mouth.... Hebrew, another Semitic language, also makes oblique references to Cthulhu worship. This identification must neccesarily remain tentative, since the oldest Hebrew texts we possess are of the Bible, the writers of which clearly and wisely would have been antagonistic towards any Cthulhu cultists. The prophet Isiah, who lived in the 8th centure BC, wrote "I shall look upon man no more among the inhabitants of Chadhel." (Isaiah 38:11) Hebrew: Chadhel The Hebrew word at the end of this verse, Chadhel, is directly related semantically to the Arabic Khadhulu. This word is generally thought to be a euphemism for Sheol or Hell. (4) However, if the word is taken to be a proper name, the significance of the verse drastically changes. Chadhel is most likely an ancient Hebrew form of the word Cthulhu, as the Hebrew "dh," in this case is, in linguistic terms, an emphatic equivalent to the English "th", an aspirant form of the same sound. "The inhabitants of Chadhel" comes to mean "those who dwell with Chadhel" or "The people of Chadhel" (i.e. Cthulhu) and thus clearly refers to a cultist sect. The meaning of the verse should be "I shall look upon man no more among the people of Cthulhu", a form or ritual and well-deserved cursing of the evil cultists. The name Chadhel had such horrendous overtones to the Hebrews that in medieval interpretations it became synonymous with Hell, giving rise to the faulty interpretation of the verse. footnotes 1) Ignace J. Gleb, et. al. The Assyrian Dictionary (Chicago University Press, 1964, in progress), vol 2, pp 355Ff. 2) Ibid., vol 6, p 158. Spoken swiftly and slurred (as is often done in human speech) it probably would sound like khatulu'u, easily recognizable as a variation of the word Cthulhu. 3) Cuneiform Texts from Babylonian Tablets, 1627:8. 4) Gesenius' Hebrew-Chaldee Lexicon (Eerdmans, 1982) p 262Leonard you make a point, which i shall hope to answer. cthulhu has more of a promenence than the other great old ones is due to the fact that they have been imprisioned since the time before man was a twinkle in the eye (if it has one) of ubbo-sathla or 300 million years ago, so actual history of what we have from then would be extremely rare, only known record is from antartica and it is incomplete. not all alien gods have visited earth, and or imprisioned there, 2 what are are cthulhu (already explained) and yig; farther of serpents, but for yig i'd have to that snake god with the name really hard to spell (quazaquetal?) and that is also a lot easier to say lovecraft used that god as the base. cthulhu also has an avantage over the other elder gods in the fact that it can communicate with people through dreams and has the healthiest cult. also not many others are mentioned in the bible or qur'an and R&S predominatly christian athiest and muslim, to be contd...contd... now onto the outer gods, they are mentioned in things, but for some of the reasons mentioned above are less well known to start with shub-niggurath is a perverted fertility deity, so could be a base for them, but only cult members have seen "her" there would be no detailed descriptions nyarlathotep is featured in egyptian mythology as a pharoh and in witchcraft circles as the "black man" (oft mistaken for the devil) and is the most well know outer god due to seving as a messanger to the gods for their cults hope you found this long explaination good and containing not too many speeling mistakes more

Resolved Question: Did the Semitic deity Yahweh enjoy the deaths of the thousands of animals sacrificed at Jerusalem's temples*?

Did he also enjoy the human sacrifice to him of Jeptha's daughter (Judges 11:31-37). according to the Tanak, OT, & contemporaneous historical sources thousands of sheep, goats cattle and birds were sacrificed every year until 70CE, when the Romans destroyed the Temple. It seems that all this death was to please Yahweh as there is no other alternative mentioned in any sources. Surely if the Bible is accurate at least one prophet would have raised Yahweh's displeasure at all this cruelty, unless Yahweh enjoyed it.Therefore it seems that at least until 70CE Yahweh was a cruel deity, not as he is portrayed by followers of the Abrahimical religions today. The only alternative to this is that the OT and Tanak are extremely inaccurate. Please note this ? is offered in good faith and any offense is unintentional *Solomonian and Herodian more

Resolved Question: Is god himself an atheist?

Lets first get a working definition. atheist: noun, One who denies the existence of God. (Since this definition is based on the Western concept of monotheism, we might expand it to include the Hindu religion or one who denies the existence of any gods.) What is clear from the growth of the theological tradition in the Biblical text is that the early God of the Hebrews was one of many Semitic gods found in the pantheon usually located atop a high mountain peaks such as the Biblical Sinai or Horeb and it is within this polytheistic society that the first Commandment of Exodus 20 was written. [An Excursion: The Evolution of “God” in the LXX: A Note on Genesis 1:1 In the early epic cycles in the Hebrew Bible, not only in J and E in in Genesis and Exodus, but as redacted in the Tribal League epics in the Deuteronomistic History of the Tetratuch, the concept of the deity of the Hebrews / Israelites moves from a local god who is but one member of a pantheon of gods which create the world (הארץ) for his people which he rules over to a latter universal single monotheistic deity of the LXX drawn from the Classical Greek concept of θεός. Genesis 1: 1 This plural form of god is emended in the Old Greek and carried in to the LXX as: εν αρχη εποιησεν ο θεος τον ουρανον και την γην (Note: אלהים the plural masculine of אל or singular for god (see: Marvin Pope excellent comments in his classical study: El in the Ugaritic Text, EJ Brill 1955; pp. 1 - 21 and for a more up to date study see: John Day, Yahweh and the Gods and Goddesses of Canaan (Sheffield Academic Press, 2000) Genesis 1: 1 clearly states that the world of the Hebrews was formed by a polytheistic assembly of gods just as one would expect in the Semitic cuneiform text of the ancient Near East such as the Enuma Elish. How in the hell does אלהיםwith יהוהequal κύριος ὁ θεός? I would emphatically state that during Israel’s evolution from polytheism to monotheism has totally eclipsed the Semitic etymology here in favor of the non-Semitic Greek. ] Since Yahweh demands the Hebrews / Israelites put him first over all the other gods (Please note: Nowhere does Yahweh say these other gods don’t exist, but rather that only he alone wants to be their god-king). Thus, it is plainly obvious that Yahweh himself believes in other gods just a these other gods also believed in him or (to put it another way; Yahweh is not an atheist). Thus, under Josiah’s reforms, all other Beth El’s or other Houses of Gods must be destroyed thus cutting off their food and leaving only Israel’s leading god’s (Yahweh) temple in Jerusalem alone honored with sacrifices. In conclusion, when we come to the LXX and the New Testament (which is based on the LXX) we do not find Yahweh as simply another god fearing other deities of the Israelites anymore (or even the name Yahweh itself), but an alone and the only real Theos who himself no longer believes in any other living deities, but considers all other forms of competing gods simply worthless and dead idols (See the atheistic theologies to wards other gods in the Acts of the Apostles and St. Paul’s theology). Put another way, the Theos of the New Testament is now fully an atheist when it comes to belief in any god or gods! Here a some closing questions to consider: A. When did Yahweh lose his faith / belief in other Gods? B. Why does the atheistic Theos (θεός) feel that the religious belief of the Semitic Yahweh was wrong? C. Does the atheistic Greek Theos even deny the ancient Semitic, but religious (faithfully believing) Yahweh himself? D. Can the Biblical text reconcile the atheistic Theos with Yahweh’s faith in other gods? (Can the LXX and its later sibling (the New Testament) ever be really reconciled with the MT text? As I have already pointed out, to say that אלהים יהוה equals κύριος ὁ θεός is simply etymologically apologetic crap!)Darwin's friend: If you can't be bothered to read my question than how exactly do you expect to answer it. If you are not going to read it don't bother wasting my time with an answer that means nothing. I am always amused at how my fellow atheists will take the time to read long questions, but christians don't seem to have the attention span or brain power to read a few paragraphs. How do you read your bible if you can't get through a few paragraphs?Edit: "its so clear now" you can't even spell atheist lol. Once again a great example of your intelligence.Edit: Darwinsfriend, exatly how is my defention of atheist any different than yours other than the wording? The meaning is the same.Mar: Please read your OT more closely. Yahweh demands the Hebrews / Israelites put him first over all the other gods (Please note: Nowhere does Yahweh say these other gods don’t exist, but rather that only he alone wants to be their god-king). Thus, it is plainly obvious that Yahweh himself believes in other gods more

Resolved Question: Does God remain out of human religious conflicts, example read more.?

In Ancient Egypt the oldest recorded name of the Creator is Ptah, He was the local Creator God of Memphis, When we look at other cities in Egypt they had similar Creation stories to the Ptah story, but The name of the God was Atum, and in other locations variants such as Tum, Amun, Amen. and Amun were found and there seemed to be political conflicts just as today between religious orders. If we begin with, PTAH ATUM AMEN AMUN OTIN , and generally agree that they are the same God with different local names with OTIN as perhaps the only exception. OTIN was the first Monotheistic deity, Though is is becoming more recognized that the Egyptian Pantheon was a system of principals to people initiated into it's scientific meaning, and to the common people of Egypt they were Gods. To the Initiate Some form of PTAH was always the undisputed creator. This is easily supported by historic evidence so I am not trying to engage in an emotional argument here, just saying. And we see that Moses leaves Egypt probably about the time of the Otin name being in wide spread use due to the Akhenatin heresay. and after the Exodus from Egypt he introduces a New Written language ( Old Hebrew ) modeled off of the Semitic Hieroglyphic alphabet of the Egyptians. ( it is clear that a new language was not developed, but a different writing system that could not be read by just anybody was given to the current system of language, It was Egyptian in code so to speak.) At the time of changing what written words look like there was also a new Name for God, (YHVH) rendered as Jehovah in English. Because of the total exclusion of the blood line of Ishmael the Father of the Arabic nations, within the context of Hebrew scripture, Arabs could not be Gods chosen people. Ishmael being the son of Abraham and Hagar the Egyptian Issac being the son of Abraham and Sarah the Hebrew. This state of conflict even finds residence in the time of the sons of Adam and Eve with Cain and Abel, only in this earlier version one is skeptical that Cain is actually the son of the serpent in the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Anyway popularity of Jews in Roman times necessitate Christianity to open the door to the nonJewish Pagans that were unable to convert to Judaism were known as Roman God Fearers ( Pagans that worshipped the Hebrew God YHVH, but could not become Jewish.) So that Leaves Mohammad in a Christian mandated world 7 centuries lated to close the door of exclusion that kept the arab from being Gods chosen people. I see that Ptah, Yhvh, Christianity, and Allah are all from the same root. other opinions please?WellTraveledProg You are not living up to your profile, historically mythologies have had a real influence on art religion philosophy and science, they are the cause of war and marketing polarities in business and they follow a tracable path, To dismiss my question as if I were some idiot mixing apples and carrots is not really intelligent on your part. I did not insist that you accept any form of a God to recognize that religion is one thing that has mutated but never the less has both an origin and an effect. Thinks for the lazy answer, you seem to have misunderstood my question. I am sorry for that, I would have rather heard supporting input from your observation of religious migration and mutation, than an insult. thx anyway.JJ Incase you wondered I like Tom Cruse, and I really have a mohawk, I do not need any spiritual assistance with my hair style, thanks for your non answer also. Go ask PTAH to forgive you Ha ha!Myuth2bu, Thanks for your answer, I must admit I have watched Zeitgeist carefully and though it is clever, it can not be supported by any historic texts, so it is just fiction even if the subject matter has real effect in the world, it is not reported correctly in that movie.(((Mystical))) do not be a yes woman, there is something to what I am pointing out here, more

Resolved Question: Was the biblical Abraham (koranic Ibrahim) a Black man?

According to the OT Abraham's birthplace was Ur where his father made religious statues (probably of the moon goddess Sin, the patron Sumerian deity of Ur). Ur was a Sumerian city. Sumer is the oldest known civilization going back at least 8000 years it occupied a large area of what is now Southern Iraq. The Sumerians built the first cities, invented writing, irrigation and organized religion. The Sumerian Language is an isolate it is not derived from or related to any other known languages. It is not known where the Sumerians originated but they definitely migrated from somewhere else. The Sumerians name for themselves meant 'the black headed people'. Later when they were conquered by various Semitic peoples (eg Akkadians) these conquerers always called the Sumerians some form of 'the black people' in their own respective languages. Semitic people are olive skinned black haired and dark eyed so it is extremely unlikely they would give the Sumerians this name unless they were black skinned. There is some confusion as to Ur being a Chaldean city due to its original erroneous identification of such by the archaeologist that first excavated its ruins, but it is now positively identified as Sumerian. more

Resolved Question: Why are most African Americans still Christian?

Considering Christianity and the Bible have been responsible for their slavery and discrimination and even though nothing from the Bible is relevant to Africa outside the Northeast. Why worship a semitic deity (Yahweh) responsible for death, suffering and the degradation of your culture instead of something your ancestors believed into (the ancient African Gods)?Musica, actually Jesus didn't "die" for everyone, he only cared about the Jews. Matthew 10:7Rockin' Robin, Many Africans are Christian due to missionary intervention and exploitation. That doesn't answer my question. And also, by Northeast, I include Ethiopia, were most people are indeed Christians. more

Resolved Question: What Deity am I? I was born on dec 25th, of a virgin?

I was called god's son. 3 shepherds came to visit my birth. I was baptized at age 30, performed miracles like walking on water and cultivated 12 disciples. I was betrayed by one, and it led to my crucifixion. But I rose after 3 days. I was called the light, the lamb of god, the alpha nd the omega. Who am I? (I'll tell you when this q is resolved but I'll give you a hint, I'm not of Semitic blood.) more

Resolved Question: Why do Christians persist in using the erroneous name Jehovah for the Semitic deity Yahweh?

Christians here keep trying to correct me for using Yahweh, the correct translation into English from the Classical Hebrew. The name Jehovah was a mistranslation made by William Tinsdale (not sure of spelling) who first translated the Bible into English. Tinsdale was good at Greek and Latin but some of his Hebrew grammer was erroneous. The error is obvious though as Hebrew has no J equivalent in Character or sound. I don't believe it has a V sound eitherJesus's real name was Yeshua more

Resolved Question: why did the semitic deity Yahweh forsake the christian deity Jesus (its alleged son)?

When JC was getting executed he allegedly claimed his Dad Yahweh was abandoning him (according to bible). Was Yahweh dumping him, and if so why? Or was Jesus lying or mistaken (I thought he was supposed to be perfect)? Or is the Bible misrepresenting the facts.? Or is the whole scenario fictional? From a theological viewpoint how could Yahweh abandon JC when they are both part of the same 'trinity' deity (along with a pigeon*). Tis all most perplexing, is it all just perhaps ancient spam, or spin or spinspam? ^..^ * a dove is a type of pigeon more

Resolved Question: How can one be sure that they have picked the right deity to observe, the Hebrew God for instance?

we have to wonder about the intelligence of a deity who would reveal his word in a way that could be understood by only a tribe of desert nomads who had 'Semitic minds,' and the rest of the world would just have to wonder what he meanthad to change my avatar due to the violation notices so now I am back to this one.funny how I didn't mention chistians in the question just the God of the bible in general. more

Resolved Question: What does the Semitic deity YHWY do for sex these days, 2600 years after his 'divorce'?

A vast amount of archaeological evidence in Israel & Jordan prove beyond all doubt that until about 600BCE, Jews worshiped the fertility Goddess Ashera as the wife of YHWH. The holy couple were supposed to have had up to 70 children. Nearly all of the OT was written after 600BCE and the Older stuff was extensively rewritten then. As the theological vogue had switched to monotheism then (Persian Influences after they rescued the Jewish religious hierarchy (Ezra & co) from Babylon) Ashera got written out of the OT, YHWH 'divorced' her and presumably abandoned his brood. It should be noted that the aforementioned 6th century OT rewrite is referred to in Jewish history. more

Resolved Question: What happened to God (YHWY)'s wife and children after their divorce?

abundant archaeological artifacts and ancient inscriptions throughout Israel prove that until about 6th century BCE, the ancient semitic deity YHWY whom Xians worship as god the father, had a wife, the fertility goddess Ashera, who was worshiped in her own right by the Jews. The couple had 60-70 children. The Jews were rescued from the Babylonian captivity by Persians and thereafter the monotheistic Persian religion Zoroastrianism greatly influenced Judaism to become monotheistic. So God divorced his wife. All references to Ashera were edited from the Hebrew Bible. Biblical editing to reflect contemporaneous theological vogues was constantly occurring from the earliest days of the Bible until modern times. Ashera was probably edited out by Ezra or one of his clique. So where is Ashera now and all those children? Shouldn't Xians be honouring their god's former spouse? more

Resolved Question: Why do so many christians celebrate pagan celebrations?

Christmas: The Messiah was born nowhere near December 25. But December 25 was the "birthday" of the son-god, Mithra, a pagan deity whose religious influence was widespread in the Roman Empire during the first few centuries of the present era! Mithra was indentified with the Semitic sun-god Shamash, and his worship spread from Asia to the west where he was worshipped as Deus Sol Invictus Mithras throughout the Roman Empire in the early centuries A.D Easter: "Ishtar", which is pronounced "Easter" was a day that commemorated the resurrection of one of their gods that they called "Tammuz", who was believed to be the only begotten son of the moon-goddess and the sun-god. more

Resolved Question: Why don't Christians honour their god's wife.?

Numerous archaeological finds and inscriptions in Israel proves that The semitic deity Yahwey, whom Christians got from the Jews and worship as 'god the father' has or had a wife, the goddess Asherah. Asherah was worshiped in ancient Israel and Judea as the queen of heaven and the consort of Yahwey. Sometime after the 7th Century BCE, Ashera was edited out of the Jewish Bible when Judaism's theological dogma was amended to embrace monotheism. Household votive idols of the happy couple Yahweh and Asherah are common finds at the archaeological sites of ancient Jewish houses that date up to at least 900BCE. So why don't Christians honor their god's wife? Please don't answer this ? with Biblical quotes as they have no relevence in this context. The aforementioned editing of the bible OT is well documented in Jewish historical sources sources William G. Dever, "Did God Have a Wife?" (Eerdmans, ISBN 0-8028-2852-3,2005 see also Ashera in WikipediaThe Jewish Hierarchy was released from the Babylonian captivity when Babylon was conquered by the Persians. The Religion at this time was Zoraosterism (can't spell) probably the first monotheistic religion. The Jews were greatly influenced by their Persian Liberators religion and became Monotheistic. The Bible editing was probably done by Ezra or his associates. more
