I'm having a debut/cotillion and I wanted to use the song "Can I have this dance?" from High School Musical 3 and my dad disapproves of it. He claims that I'm going out of the tradition and from what I have seen on youtube as far back as 2006 a lot of the debutantes didn't use a classical song. I was wondering if it's necessary to use a classical song. I am also trying to avoid a classical song because I recently attended a cotillion last weekend and no one really watched the performance of the waltz, even the adults were talking. I don't want to bore my court, my audience, and especially me with a song that's just isn't entertaining. No offense to the people who like classical music though. more

Resolved Question: How do I go about turning a movie that has never been on Broadway into a musical for high school?

Next year will be my first year directing the high school musical we do every year, and I want it to be amazing! The students and I have all come to the conclusion that we want to do Moulin Rouge! I know it's a little risky, but the district has surprisingly approved as long as we tune it down a little. Now I have NEVER done anything like this before, and I have no idea how to get permission to do this. It's never been made into a Broadway show, so I know we CAN do it, but I just don't know who to get permission from. Okay, so my school's doing Jekyll and Hyde the musical this year, and I'm having trouble finding something to audition with. I'm fourteen, usually a Soprano depending on the range of the song (I can hit a high C, but that's about it). Originally I wanted to sing Defying Gravity from Wicked, but according to everyone around me, it doesn't show off my voice enough. So at the moment I'm hooked on Don't Rain on my Parade from Funny Girl...but it's such a signature song, and I'm nowhere near as good as Barbra :) Just wondering if there were any other good, solid musical songs out there that might fit my voice. Hopefully something that isn't too popular as well (that rules out On My Own and Adelaide's Lament). Thanks :) more

Our school is doing the musical Grease, and we are to perform a 24-32 measure solo of a Broadway musical piece. It should also be a pop-style. (as in nothing from an opera) Range: I'm a soprano. Resolved Question: Does anybody have any info/tips on playing the Cat in the Hat in "Seussical"?

I found out today that I will be playing the role of the Cat in the Hat [female version of the musical] in Seussical the Musical. We haven't gotten our scripts or songbooks yet, though. I've looked over a few different variations of the play on YouTube, but I still have a few questions on the role. -What different songs include the Cat [including solos, duets, and chorus parts]? -How large is the Cat's role in comparison to other leads, such as Horton, JoJo, and Gertrude? -What kind of air does the Cat have in his [or in this case, her] role as the narrator and other various parts? -Is there anything else that I should be concerned with or know? This is my third year in my school's drama club, and therefore my third musical. The last two years I have mainly been a chorus member and nothing more for the, but have held high roles in our regular non-musical productions. So ever since my last ex and I broke up, I've felt awkward around people....like....I can't explain it. I did myspace, facebook, and every other website you can think of to meet friends and to find girls whom I have something in common with. I'm a writer and I enjoy musical theater...I have never met a single lesbian who is into that kinda stuff except for my ex girlfriend (who will never wanna get back together with me) and its been 3 years since I've dated anyone. For once, I wish I could meet a girl in a library or a coffee shop and enjoy an intelligent conversation rather than having to go to a gay bar or a club to find a girlfriend. I hate clubs. They're loud, crowded and full of people I dont know. They just make me feel uncomfortable and I feel awkward every time I walk into one. (Drinking does help but I'm not made of money.....) I can kinda be a weird person lol like I sing in the car loud when we are at a red light cause I dont care what people think of me and I dance in public when I hear a song on the radio that I actually know and sometimes my personality of just being random and crazy can scare off the people my best friend and i are with.....other than facebook and myspace, I hate clubs/bars....Are there other ways for me to meet a girlfriend I actually have something in common with without having to go to a bar/club? Are there other ways to meet friends besides on facebook or myspace? I just feel like I have no friends at all. I find that I am in my room on friday nights, reading...I feel boring lol and when I'm out with people I actually KNOW, we have a blast but the the people I'm friends with are always busy on the weekends. We rarely ever hang out. The only other people we get along with are in high school and that doesnt bug me. I'm not tryin to be picky its just the options we have these days to meeting friends and whatnot are like slim to none (especially if you're not in college or high school anymore....like me) any suggestions?? more

I'm auditioning for footloose soon. I'm a female high school student and I sing most comfortably at soprano 2-ish but I can hit higher notes if I have to. im auditioning for the musical grease in school with the song 'we go together'. the first part in chest voice sounds really good, but i cant get the high notes in chest voice and i have to switch to head voice. anything i can do to make it less obvious?or should i just say 'to hell with it' and do the high notes in head voice? it sounds funny to me when i do it... more

For my high school theater/dance class final, I have to write a musical (only 15 minutes long). I wanted to make it so that the actors (we only have 8) were on an improv team doing skits and songs. I'm planning to apply to some acting conservatories and a common audition requirement is to sing a song, and in a few cases, sing it a capella I'm not too good at singing (genetics, really) but I take voice lessons and I'm in my school's musicals Also, I want to avoid the typical Broadway/Disney song becuase the people I'm auditioning for probably get TONS of those, and I'd like to stand out a bit and not bore them to death But I think it's best that it be in English because I think they're looking for our ability to capture the emotions and tone in the song, and many times they will ask you to do the song (or monolouge) over again but under different circumstances or something like that Oh, and make sure it's easy to do but doesn't sound easy. I have a singing audition tomorrow for my high school's play. We are doing Peter Pan. The audition songs are Never Neverland and I've Gotta Crow. I take voice lessons and I'm in choir... but I don't know how to sing in theater. Like do I sing in my chest voice or my head voice? I'm a high high soprano...but in my chest voice I can't sing that high. The notes in the song are a little hard to sing without my head voice... so what do I do? more

There's a thing at school where we do a bunch of song and dance from a musical (this year it's Thirteen) for the school arts awards. If you sign up (I did), you automatically make it but you're not guaranteed a solo part in some songs. I want a solo part, and there's also a duet I want to get a part in.
