Nyctophobia Questions asked
Resolved Question: Some reasons why I might have trouble sleeping?
For a little over a year now, I have had trouble going to sleep at night. I normally fall asleep anywhere from 2-3 AM and wake up from 4-6 AM. After I wake up, I cannot go back to sleep no matter how hard I try. I get really tired during the day and sometimes it is so bad that I feel like I might pass out or I get an extremely horrid headache. Even though I am extremely tired, at night when I attempt to go to sleep, I get very hyper and when I do lay down to attempt to sleep, I get very uncomfortable and just cannot go to sleep. Is there something that could be making me do this? I'm 16, but I have been diagnosed with Nyctophobia and have heard that it can affect sleeping, although I normally have panic attacks because of this and at night when I cannot go to sleep, none of my symptoms resemble those of panic attacks. Anyone have any clues what this could be?

moreResolved Question: FEAR OF SLEEPING ALONE?
I'm quite young for my age--almost eleven and my mother says I need my own room. Well, I slept with my mom ever since I was little. And I think I have Nyctophobia, Somniphobia and I already know I have Pediophobia. I'm not sure how to cure it. Nyctophobia is a fear of the dark, but much more then that. I sleep with a nightlight and I'm not afraid to go outside in the dark but in dark rooms -- and I get more scared when there is mirrors in a dark room, I get freaked out. I have trouble sleeping because I image scary things and they won't go away, so I need help. Does anyone know what's wrong with me?
moreResolved Question: What is the phobia of being alone in the dark?
I don't generally have a problem with being outside with people I trust in the dark, nor when I am alone, inside in a familiar place. However, if I am inside in an unfamiliar place or outside in the dark alone even in my back garden I find it terrifying and get breathless etc. I wanted to know if there was a different name for being in the dark alone rather than just the general fear of the dark- Nyctophobia?
ThankssBy the way, I don't have a phobia of being alone in the daylight, solely in the darkness especially in unfamiliar places.

moreResolved Question: How do you cure nyctophobia (fear of the dark)?
I am and always have been afraid of the dark. I know it's irrational, and I should have gotten over it a long time ago, but every time I enter a dark room or hallway, especially by myself, my hands clench, my respiration increases, and I have an awful feeling like someone is sneaking up behind me or going to jump out of a closet or from behind a door. I sleep with the hallway light on, but my parents say that this is not good for my sleep habits. I can barely climb up to my bunk bed at night because I always feel like someone is going to reach out and grab my legs before I can reach the top. This is a bigger problem than before because not even my little sister is afraid of the dark anymore. Any advice on curing this childish phobia that does not involve drugs would be very helpful.

I'm 13 years old and I am really afraid of the dark. I mean, shouldn't I be over the dark at this age. I still need a night light. I remember last week the bulb in my night light was blown out and I had to sleep in my room in darkness. My mom asked me if I would be alright and I told her I could manage. That night I had no sleep. I just cried and I was shaking. I couldn't take it so I went In the bathroom and turned the light on. I woke up and it was 2:00 am. So I went back in my room, turned the light on and read my book. I hate going to sleepovers when there is darkness too. I usually don't sleep at sleepovers until the sun rises a little so I have some light. Is there any way I can overcome this fear?
Is there anyone else(my age or around my age) who has Nyctophobia?

moreResolved Question: What do you think of this paragraph?
lie down,
now close your eyes,
what do you see?
Nothing. there's no danger or cause to be afraid. But then your imagination starts. What if creatures of your innermost fears lurk within this eternal blackness, waiting for their oppurtunity to strike, coiled, like a viper, when you are at your most vulnerable. When your eyes are closed. The shadows reach forward with their clawed hands and their cold touch, edging closer, approaching your body.
Then you open your eyes.
It's time for me to leave, the sun is setting, it will be dark soon. And when you're finally prepared to shut your eyes don't resist one last peek. I know i won't.
That is an introduction to a book i am writing called nyctophobia (fear of the dark or night) and i would to know your opinion. please don't moan about the grammar though, i know it's wrong.
please suggest improvements but don't be too harsh i am only 14

Nyctophobia
The fragile arms of the trees dancing
Sharp eerie wind piercing your skin
The bitter cold wraps itself around you
Frigid shivers crawl up your spine
The world seems unconscious in the ink-black nightI added 3 more lines:
Abondoned in a universe that is asleep
The panic engulfs you
You're trapped underwater in an ocean of fearEDIT:
I finished it! And also switched up a few things. Here is the finished product (i think):
The fragile arms of the trees dancing
Sharp, eerie wind piercing your skin
The bitter cold wraps itself around you
Frigid shivers crawl up your spine
The rapid beats of your heart blare in your ears
The world seems unconscious in the ink-black night
Abandoned in a universe that's asleep
The panic engulfs you
Waves of terror swallow you whole
You're trapped underwater in an ocean of fear.
