Open Question: is there a website for world languages?
I am a preschool teacher with a very internationally diverse class. I am making a sign with several ways to say hello in the different languages some of my students speak. I'd like to include how hello looks in that language as well as the transliteration so we can read it and pronounce it using English letters. I am looking for spelling hello in the following languages: Chinese, Japanese and Korean. moreOpen Question: Railway tickets in Great Britain- Why do I get different results about the price?
Hello! I've been looking for the cheapest way to go from Dartford to London (Victoria station) and back in the following week. We want to go to London at about 8 and go back at about 19 o'clock. So now I looked though this "get the cheapest fares" or something on this site: http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ . There I got various times where we can travel to and back from London with four adults- for 27,20 pounds each time. Now I've been wondering about the price as we looked before (not via this "cheapest fares" thing but via this ticket finder which is on the start page directly, saying that we'd leave on Monday (however we are very flexible there, so we don't have to go on Monday) and there we it said we could travel back for 13,60 O.o also at 18:39 by the way, a time which I got in this "cheapest fares" engine for 27,20.. so which price can I trust now? I'm very confused now. Which price will it be when we buy the tickets at the train station? I really hope you can help me and please excuse language mistakes, I'm not native English.well as we are going from Germany to a small town near Dartford tomorrow, tickets by mail will not work as we cannot let them deliver them to us at home and I don't know if we can receive letters at our house in England. so that would be quite risky^^and what about these anytime day return tickets? It is said that I have to say when exactly I want to go back (so I have to pick one Dartford->London time and one London->Dartford time) but could we also leave a different time then? because it's a "anytime return", isn't it? Or would we HAVE to get those trains? Would it also be possible for us to print out the tickets or something? moreResolved Question: He could possibly be 10-15 years older than me. Should I still pursue this relationship?
I'm 20 years old, turning 21, and am a student at University and part-time worker at a department store. Where I work, there is a man who works in the offices, and he was came to purchase something from me. I'm very friendly and always strike up conversation with my customers, but when I looked up at him, I was shocked by how good looking he is. I tried to make small convo, and turns out we come from the same cultural background. So ever since then, whenever i'd see him, i'd say hello in our common language. I caught myself daydreaming a lot about him at work, but I never thought them more than dreams, because he is quite older than me.. he hasn't told me his age, but i'm guessing between 30-35, so that's a possible 10-15 yr difference. Anyway, the other day by some miracle, he gave me his phone number and told me to contact him whenever i'd like. I sent him a text message today, and he texted back saying he'd like to take me out sometime.. I haven't responded yet, for two reasons. 1) I've never dated anyone older than me, and even if I have, it's never been by more than a year or 2 at most.. so i'm thinking, would this be weird? I told one of my close friends, and she told me she thinks 10-15 years is a huge stretch and very strange. 2) I'm really nervous, because we're probably on different pages in our lives, and I don't know how well we could possibly get along. At the same time though, I find myself mature for my age, and have never managed to keep a relationship with guys at University because I didn't find them serious enough, so maybe this guy will be a good catch for me? I guess i'll only ever find out by giving it a try, but I suppose what i'm asking here is for your advice/opinions/similar experiences? It would mean a lot, thanks in advance :) ps. I know this should be in singles&dating, but I always get the best advice in here =] moreResolved Question: Can you say hello in 2 or more languages?

Hello, This past June I graduated High school. Because I do not know exactly what I want to do, I am attending community college for (hopefully) only a semester or a year. I have ideas of things that I would like to do/ would be interested in, but I don't know what kind of job/ the name of the job that would incorporate these things. Of course i would enjoy a relatively high income, but that's not as important to me as how happy I want to be actually doing what I do. I'm very flexible and open-minded about most jobs- they don't have to have everything i would like, obviously haha. Please be serious. If anyone could help me out with a few job titles and how I could get started/ what kind of classes i should take, etc..i would be very grateful. - I am interested in Abnormal Psychology, and am thinking of possibly going into the medical field, but - I would like to travel to different countries (particularly Europe), and have always wanted to attend at University in another country and eventually find the place I love the most and live there. - I have been learning German in school since i was 11, but have always been exposed to it. I always want to learn many other languages (Polish, French, Finnish etc) - I would not mind business/ communications; however, I don't think i'm cut out for/ would be able to handle the business world. - Fine arts/ music has always been an interest of mine. I know none of those are really similar or anything, and some maybe sound kind of 'far fetched', but those are just my major interests. Like i said, i'm real flexible for different answers and stuff as long as they're serious. I'm a pretty laid-back person, but I will work very hard if I love what I am doing. I just can't figure out what I love and want to do yet. Hopefully someone can help me out. Thanks !I wasn't considering the military, etc. moreVoting Question: child i babysit has crush and parents not telling me much about him. what do i do?
I am 22, an art student in college and the child, who i will call D, I am babysitting is about 9. I babysit him on Friday and Saturday nights, when the parents are out. He is a very quiet boy so I have a hard time communicating with him. I ask the parents if he is always very quiet and they told me it takes him a while to get used to new people in the house. Mostly what he says to me is hello or that he is going to his room. One day, he saw me working one of my drawings. He stared at my drawing for a while then went to his room and started to draw a photo. We started to draw together a lot. His parents gave me a raise because I am the first babysitter that has got their son interested in something and that I am the first babysitter that their son has gotten comfortable with so soon. One night, we looked at each other drawings, he gave me a kiss on the cheek, which I thought was cute. At that point I didn't think more of it. However, one night when I got back to my dorm and I was looking for my homework assignment in my purse, I found a picture of what appeared to be two people kissing. Above each person was my name and his name. I have seen enough of D's drawings to know it was him. He must have slipped in my purse when i was in the bathroom. So next weekend, I arrived at the house, and was about to ask the parents about the picture but they had to leave in a hurry for a dinner party. On the dinner table, among papers, I saw a letter on top of the pile from a psychologist with a diagnosis report of autism for D. While D was drawing more pictures, I went online on my laptop (they let me use their wireless) and researched autism. D is mostly non-verbal so i found out that comprehending language is hard for them. What frustrated me was that the parents did not tell me, so I could better take care of him. Thinking back to that kiss, I think he has a crush on me, which is not my first babysitter crush. But this is different the child is autistic, and I am just worried that he doesn't understand our age difference. What do I do. I mean the parents have always been kind to me, let me spend the night in the guest room if I feel unsafe to go back at night, pay me more than I am asking for, and are very respectful of my class schedule. It is unclear to me if D has any other babysitters, which I think makes sense since I take care of him Friday and Saturday. I feel sorry for D because he is limited in the ways he can communicate. But I am not sure how to tell him I am the babysitter and that I don't have any interest in him. I have a wonderful boyfriend of two years who gives me rides to the family's house, even when I don't ask him. He even is clueless about the autism part. Again, I don't want to leave such a nice paying job that in a way pays me to work on my art major, drawing and teaching the child art. So what do I do? Should I ask the parents why they haven't told me that his son was autistic? moreResolved Question: hey let me know what you think of this!?
"We are now all Pakistanis--not Baluchis, Pathans, Sindhis, Bengalis, Punjabis and so on--and as Pakistanis we must feet behave and act, and we should be proud to be known as Pakistanis and nothing else." Quaid-e-Azam. Imagine at this moment, somewhere above in the clouds he sits playing chess looking down at what he helped to create. Is he proud of what he sees, is he happy that even after all the tedious years of struggle, we finally made it! Is the man feeling any regret, remorse, outrage or pain at the fact that the struggle, he went through to achieve this nation has been for nothing. Was it really worth it in the end, that’s for you to decide. It all started with one man’s idea of “The Two Nation Theory”, and it eventually resulted in the two countries we love and hate. However, this article is not here to give you a boring old history lecture, rather it is here to remind why this country was made. Our name is Pakistan, learn to call yourself a Pakistani, forget for a minute that you’re a Hindu, or a Buddhist or a Muslim or even a foreigner stuck here in the deathly throes of hell. Just look around you, what do you see? Let me guess, the traffic, the screaming, somebody saying “hello, hello, hello” constantly on the phone, but of course that depends on where you are at this point. Now ignore the people, the sounds and the feeling you have. Look at the structure, it looks modern enough right? It has been stable so far right, things are fine? Ignore the dirty walls, the wrong that is being done and just for a second think, how beautiful this country is. How even though there have been messes made, the country still has survived. One politician after another, all of them lusted for power, and when it came to the country, it seemed like they forgot it existed. Look where they ended. Our country has had its moments to be proud of right? So for now, how about focusing on the greatness that Pakistan really is? That is the meaning of looking through a different eye As Pakistanis we have had to struggle at each and every point in our country’s life. From the time of partition till today and infinitum, we will struggle. What we are struggling against, you may ask! Ourselves, that’s who! The idea of Pakistan was to create a place for all Muslims, Hindus etc to live in peace. You see that’s what we have forgotten, this place is for everyone. So it really is not a question of whether you’re a Muslim or a Hindu, or whether you’re a Balochi or a Punjabi or a Sindhi or a Pathan. The point is that you’re all the same, different colour and language, but your hearts are the same. You all want peace right? Nobody wants the same situation as it was in 1971, when we lost a part of our country. And over what I might add, not giving them the freedom to rule their side of the country, of wanting to have all the power to ourselves. So was that the aim, to become powerful, because look around you, by now you have no one at your side. We lost the Bengalis, and soon we will lose the rest of Pakistan. So stop criticizing it every chance you get. Yes, our people are filled with animosity, guilt and sometimes regret over their actions. In the course of history, we have done a minute amount of good that has helped our country develop. There are millions of faults in this country, and to find them all would be silly and a complete waste of time. We need to focus on implementing change, by reaching out and helping the poor. I mean seriously, your showing of your new blackberry phone off in front of a beggar, who’s probably been starving and he in a moment of rage and hunger pangs would try to steal it from you. Does it make it right? Of course it doesn’t and it’s not supposed to be right. Yet, change the situation like this, you keep the phone in your bag, and feed that hungry man, what’s going to happen? Nothing, he will be happy and so will you. Think how many times a day you find faults in the country, “it’s dirty, the streets are filled with litter” so tell me, have you ever thought of maybe cleaning up the place a little bit. Like if you see a piece of trash, pick it up and throw it in the bin. Or are you still too busy throwing around trash yourself. Unfortunately, that’s our educated class. Our uneducated at least doesn’t pretend to be self righteous and act in a hypocritical way. Why is it that when it rains, all of us gather around and enjoy it, instead of worrying over the destruction of roads, our houses and the water seeping in everywhere? It's because human beings believe in hope. Hope is the eternal flame that holds in itself the dreams of the world. The same hope that holds the dreams of all Pakistanis. So why can't we hope and try for a brighter future, the present is not a picture of misery, but it still is bad. This country gave you an identity, think about it, when you go abroad, and say you're a Pakistani, you may hate yourself, the country or even be hated. But, it's better than this is an essay, and i need to know your opinion on the writing style moreResolved Question: How can I find out information on actual korean culture? (not kpop or korean dramas)?
When I say the word "culture" I don't mean kpop, korean dramas or fashion from places like yesstyle.com. I mean stuff like customs, beliefs and holidays. I am not actually interested in learning the language (I am too busy trying to study mandarin chinese right now) but I do want to learn about the culture. With that being said, are there any books or websites you can recommend? Is there something you want to just say right now. Thank you :) >>>> oh yeah! i guess i should tell you what I already know. When i wear a suit and i drive a very nice car i realise some people who do not have what i have tend to with draw them selves from me and i wondered why because i know they are not jealous of me so i respectfully say hello or give a casual smile to let them be at ease that what i wear and have will not make me act or behave any different or authoriantative to them then they relax. How ever when i do not wear a suit and go out in my casual clothes some other people who do wear office suits and nice cars they act very authorientative and haughty to others and are very rude and arrogant they resemble to me people who have no jobs and drink and smoke ciggarettes and take out life frustrations onto others. then i wonder i do not blame people for distancing themselves from me when i wear a suit may be they have experienced this to. also another note they are usually men who behave like this bad behaviour rather then women and will not hesitate to use foul language either, they behave as if they own you or something. what is your view and experience and why is this i know it is not all but some people who are like this. Thank you! moreResolved Question: Becker and Duchenne muscular dystrophy?
¿Becker and Duchenne muscular dystrophy? Hello, Well I have many questions but I'll try to summarize.. Some test that I recently did on my 8-month-old baby showed that he had high possibilities to have one of those dystrophies. My wife has dystrophy, although she's not shown any symptoms of developing the disease, she transmitted it to our baby, he's a boy. we had been planning to have medical assistance in order to get a baby girl, 'cuase most of the times women doesn't develop the dystrophy as fast as men do, But because of destiny we had a boy. These diseases, according to what I've researched, has no cure. I've been looking for any cure of both of them 'cause doctors don't know which one he has yet. But they also say that he doen't seem to have Duchenne Dystrophy but Beckerm 'cuase he doesn't have any of the signs of the Duchenne one. But there's still a possibility. I read an article bassed on experiments that French scientists have tried on many pacients and they seemed to cause no side effects and seemed to put a stop to it. some friends have also suggested me "gene change, which according to them, if performed before the disease manifests itself, it put end to the disease although the baby might develop physiological characteristics different from their parents. Now I ask: Have any of you know of any cure or treatment that may lead to a cure? Regardless of the country. Who here has gone through a similar case, What have you done about it? I want people who really know about the subject,Doctors, scientists, etc. But please do not copy and paste information, I think I have checked almost all the info on the web, if you have information that could be useful in other languages, I speak Spanish, Portuguese, French and Japanese. The three children sat at the floor in front of the fire of the hearth. Sometime later, their grand father came down the stairs. After smiling and nodding to each one of them, he sat at an armchair then placed his staff at his thighs. He had a pointy beard, a crooked nose with a zit at its edge and red lips. But the strangest of all his features was his eyes. His left eye was grey and his right eye was red. The only girl sitting among the three kids got to her feet and pointed at the door of the living room. “Grandpa...” she screamed, “There are fumes at the door,” The kids gasped and looked at the door. Red fumes emerged out of thin air, twirling and vanishing against the white ceiling. Grandpa grinned and said, “I know,” He lowered his gaze then turned his head at the fumes. “Casaldoph.” He said gently, “Show them yourself, please.” The fumes vanished and reappeared above the head of grandpa. They gathered in one, big ball. A black tinge started to appear at the middle of the ball and its red color began to disappear slowly. The other two kids got to their feet; their lips parting. After a few seconds, the red ball had transformed into a red creature with filmy skin, green eyes and a small horn at the middle of his forehead. “ Hello,” the creature said, flying in a circle with his legs crossed in a yoga position. “ What will we do today Master?” Grandpa raised his head to the creature who was now hovering around the chandelier hanging from the ceiling. “ we’ll tell the kids a story.” The creature grinned, opened his legs and slowly descended to the floor. “ I love stories.” He said, walking towards the kids. They all began gasping and moved backward. The creature vanished and reappeared behind them. They screamed and jumped to their feet. The creature began laughing and his color changed from red to blue, but after the laughing subsided his color returned back to red. “ Come here,” grandpa gestured at the creature who vanished once again and reappeared at grandpa’s chair, bowing against his head. Grandpa whispered something that the children wished they could hear, but they couldn’t. For a moment, the girl thought that grandpa was speaking a different language but that was a ridiculous idea, she thought. The creature vanished once again and reappeared at the middle of the living room, in front of grandpa who sat motionless. “ I’m goning to tell you the story of how death emerged at the beginning of time.” His voice by that point was lower and darker. “ Get ready.” He raised both hands in the air and all of a sudden the walls of the house vanished, followed by grandpa who flew high up as if hooked up by an invisible rope. The three kids shrieked as they found themselves falling into a deep abyss. A few moments later, the abyss vanished and they found themselves lying on white, soft sand. “ Grandpa, “ the boy with the red hair said, “ where’s grandpa.” The other boy with the blue eyes, walked forward among the trees. He vanished among the shrubs. During that time, the girl and the boy with the red hair grasped each other hands and waited for their brother to return. Some minutes, later they heard a loud scream. They screamed themselves and ran into the wood, but fear held them back and they returned to the spot where they were standing first. Silence prevailed for sometime. But while they were standing, there arms closet to each other, the thick shrubbery in front of them moved and out of no where their brother appeared with his red face, yellow hair and blue eyes. “ I found grandpa and the red creature, “ he screamed at them. The girl threw at him a small stone to her side for causing her such a shock but eventually she followed him along with her other brother. After walking for some time, they found a beautiful beach on which grandpa slept with his staff resting against his chest. The red creature was walking at the water catching some fish with his bare hands. “ grandpa,” the girl said, poking her grandfather with one finger at his neck. “ wake up.” The boy with the blue eyes pushed one of his lid open and slowly he let it to slid back down. “ he’s dead,” his brother said, putting his hand against his lips. “ there’s no breath.” “ well done my boy,” The creature with the red horn appeared behind the kids. “ your grandfather is dead, but for just now.” The red horned creature started hovering around the motionless body of grandpa, humming a strange song with his eyes resting over the body. After some minutes, the creature stopped and smiled a the dead body. Slowly, grandpa started coughing and he sat up. “ thanks,” The red horned creature bowed and vanished back into the water. Grandpa got to his feet as strong as ever. “ Death is nothing but a journey from which you can return. But you must learn how to catch the soul before it reaches a place where you can’t get it.” moreResolved Question: Say hi in a different language then english?

Hello. I'm doing an English essay on Shirley Valentine. I know why she goes to Geece- to escape from her mundane life. But we have been asked to choose an incident and explain why this made her think again about the woman she had become. I need to explain imagery (simile and metaphor), use of pause or punctuation for effect. This is what I have so far: 'There are many incidents in the play that make Shirley think about the woman she had become. One of which is the ‘chip and eggs’ incident. It’s quite literally- as the old proverb says- ‘out of the frying pan, into the fire’- it goes from one problem to another. But this was the last straw for Shirley. When Joe threw the meal onto Shirley’s knee, she didn’t get mad or shout at him- like habitual couples would. Instead, she got up, brushed the untouched dinner from her knee, and wrote ‘GREECE’ in huge letters across the wall. This shows us that she has finally had enough and is definitely going on holiday. The writing on the wall encapsulated freedom. Shirley states that she had cooked the meal in oil and that the eggs were free range. She obviously considers the meal expensive and appetizing. The fact that the meal is accepted with gratitude on a Tuesday, but called ‘shite’ on a Thursday shows that Joe cannot accept change and that he is defined by his routine. Russell demonstrates Joe’s and Shirley’s anger in different ways. Joe’s is portrayed by changing the type of language used- ‘What. Is This?’- It is short, sharp and staccato. Russell demonstrates Shirley’s frustration also through language. She reverts to personal pronouns, referring to Joe as ‘he’ constantly, as if she is too ashamed to even say his name. When Joe asks what the writing on the wall says, Shirley replies: ‘It’s a place. It’s a place I’m going to’. Repetition is used to show Shirley’s steadfast assurance and confidence that she is going on holiday. She says it calmly, without hesitation, showing that she is not concerned by what he thinks or says anymore and that his opinion will not affect her decision. He automatically assumes that he is going, like a man of his time. ‘I’m not going to no Greece. If that’s why I’m not getting fed properly, because you’re saving up for a foreign holiday, y’ can forget it’ This shows that Joe is only concerned with himself- he immediately thinks of himself; why he isn’t getting fed properly, how he wasn’t going on a holiday. He does not see what Shirley wants- he does not care about what Shirley wants. Shirley just bursts out laughing- like Shirley Valentine would. ‘I couldn’t stop laughing because I knew I was going to do it. I knew I was going to go to Greece.’ Russell does this to highlight the sheer, liberated joy Shirley feels at that moment.' ****But I don't know what else to say. I know it isn't very good but it has to be in tomorrow and I've got loads of other homework too.. It says on the sheet to analyse both the language and dramatic devices e.g. gesture, facial expressions, lighting, etc. If you've seen the film or anything, please could you help me? It would be greatly, GREATLY appreciated! I'm just really bad at stuff like dramatic devices and just need a little help or advice on how to deal with it. Thank you very much for reading and (hopefully) answering the question! moreResolved Question: i have a crush on this guy, but he asked me this?

I am VERY much so interested in world cultures. It just fascinates me how different we are and yet we have so many similarities. Hello, everyone. This is kind of an odd question, and I would really appreciate honest responses but not any mockery. I am 23 and am beginning to wonder if I fall somewhere on the autism spectrum or perhaps have another related (or entirely unrelated) social disorder. I'm hoping others with similar conditions or who know those with signs and symptoms that sound similar to mine can speculate on what I may have. First of all, I know that to get a diagnosis, I need to go see a professional. It is not my intention to be diagnosed online like this. What I'm simply hoping to do is get some clarity. I've researched online on different disorders and can't find clear enough information to even be able to hazard a guess as to what I may have, so please chime in. To some extent, these symptoms have been with me my entire life, but they're especially starting to manifest themselves now. I have a Bachelor's Degree and have always had great grades and even been identified as "highly capable," etc. My language skills have always been very superior to those of my peers on tests, but my math skill are awful (not sure whether or not that's related to this at all). I am very articulate when writing and usually use writing to express my thoughts, but I'm having a TERRIBLE time doing so in person. It's a lot more than social anxiety. I'm extremely introverted, and I spend most of my time reading, writing and educating myself. When I get into social situations, I clam up and have no idea what to say, although there are tons of thoughts running through my head. If a person asks me a question, I can't provide a definitive answer, because I go back and forth in my head, analyzing the gray area, etc. and I can't just simply say something. If I'm caught off guard in a social situation, sometimes I feel like I'm going to burst out in tears, and I can't answer the simplest of questions. I don't believe I have social anxiety, however. I can give speeches, and when I'm speaking on a professional level or about a topic about which I'm passionate, I can actually be quite confident and articulate. It's when it comes to small talk that I become a bumbling fool. I often hear that I look upset or look like I'm about to murder somebody when I'm really doing fine and just sitting there thinking my own thoughts. I've read that those with Asperger's Syndrome have trouble picking up on social cues and analyzing body language, tones, etc. I don't have this problem at all; I have just the opposite. I read into things a LOT, and I take things really personally. If someone looks at me a certain way, I spend a considerable amount of time afterward trying to figure out what I might have done to offend that person, when it really probably has nothing to do with me at all. This is where I'm confused. Supposedly, those with Asperger's and Autism have difficulty empathizing with others or understanding other points of view, while I see them almost too well. Like I said, I can't even form a clear opinion on something or feel comfortable taking a stance on an issue because I am so well versed on all possible sides of things. It's very confusing to explain. The world is so much more complex in my head than it seems like it is to others. I get so frustrated when I've been thinking/writing/researching about a topic, then I'm in a class or group and am asked a simple question. I know there's not just one answer. I see others around me able to make small talk and have conversations, and I sit there for five minutes figuring out when would be the best time to interject and say something. It's awful. That's what bothers me the most. I overthink everything, and I can't just say, "Hi, how are you? I like the color of your shirt," because I have to think about it over and over again in my head first and figure out whether or not it's a socially appropriate thing to say and time to say it - meanwhile, everyone else is going on with their normal conversations. I leave every situation like this feeling like I'm going to cry because of frustration, both with myself and with others for not understanding me. This might sound terrible, and many may question why I bring this up. I just want to throw it out there that I'm an attractive female. I know that's not for me to judge, but I know it's true to a degree, and I've been told that many times. The reason I say this is just to dispell any ideas that maybe I'm not confident or comfortable with myself, etc. From what I've been told, I look like I would have it all together and be a social butterfly (I know that's a stereotype), but I don't feel right. I'm just saying there's no other possible explanation for this - no psychological history, no family mental illnesses, no confSorry, apparently it was too long (I've been told I ramble). All I needed to close with was - any ideas? All reasonable guesses are appreciated. Thank you! Thanks, everyone for the great advice. Sorry, Anna for the bragging. I'm glad it showed though so you could get an accurate description of how my head works, as much as it hurts to hear that I do it. I'm starting to agree that it's anxiety now. moreResolved Question: im looking for a song but have no clue right now what its called or who sings it.?

Hello! Ok, this is not a huge problem but I would like to know the wisest way to deal with it. My husband is very much into politics so are his friends. I on the other hand don't like politics and try to stay away from it. We don't have conflicts because of this difference, we share a lot of other interests but I just know that I really wouldn't want to learn about politics and show interest in it (I have tried in the past and I just know it is not for me). The hard part though is when he says something about recent political events and I don't know how to react really. I usually ask questions but most of the times I don't really understand the answer. But it is ok, he loves me the way I am and he knows about this lack of interest. The worst is when he discuss politics with his friends, I just usually keep silence, and I feel like people might start thinking I am stupid (which is not true, I love art, classical literature, music, I teach, and learn languages). But really I have nothing to say when things like that happen. I am new to his friends and I don't want him to be ashamed of me. Which he says is ok but I just feel bad. Any advice is appreciated. Hello! My name is Judy, I'm 13 (14 in Asian age), and I am Taiwanese. I'm interested in auditioning for SM/JYP Entertainment soon and I have a couple of questions! I hope you guys can answer them, thanks~ ^___^ Also, here's a picture of me, tell me if you think I have a chance. (PLEASE be honest, thanks!) http://i938.photobucket.com/albums/ad227/chenchen110/4.jpg 1. Is being able to speak more than one languages an advantage? I speak English and Mandarin fluently, and I can understand a bit of Hokkien! ( I think that's what it's called? It's that language older people use in Taiwan..) 2. Will you get to choose if you want to be a independent singer, or be in a group? Because I personally would like to be in a group! :D 3. Do you think I will still have a chance if I do an email audition? I live in the States, but I don't think my parents would take me to Cali for an audition, lol (: 4. Will they pay for you to fly to Korea once you are a trainee? 5. How much does your dancing REALLY impact you being chosen. I'm interested in singing, and I have a couple years of dancing, but when it comes to freestyling, I SUCK. Soooo, do you think it would decrease my chance? :( 6. I don't have double eyelids. I can make them though! :D But I don't have them naturally, instead I have multiple layered eyelids, its so weird.. Will that impact their choice too? I mean, I heard even RAIN wasn't accepted into some companies because he didn't have double eyelids! :O 7. Should I sing a song in Korean, Mandarin, or English? I was thinking of singing short parts of 3 different songs in those languages, so they can see my pronunciation! Is that a good idea? Or should I just stick to singing one song? 8. This one girl on YouTube who auditioned for SM is saying that you MUST KNOW KOREAN, is that true?! Cause if it is, my dream is basically crushed. =____= 9. When I audition through email, the video I send them, can it be like a video with me singing, but you can't see my "singing" its just like a recording with a picture of me as the video? Or do they have to see me singing really? PERSONAL QUESTION: 1. HOW DO I PERSUADE MY PARENTS?!? My mom and dad are all about me being educational and crap. I mean, I don't know, they want me to graduate college and everything and find a good job.. I think they MIGHT be okay with me becoming a singer, though I don't know what they would think about me becoming a singer in KOREA. Plus, we are kinda a low income family so what about money problems! IF i were to make it to Korea for the third round, they probably can't pay for me! So, do you guys have any tips on how I can show my parents that I REALLY REALLY want this?? Thanks so much!! ^^ moreResolved Question: good korean language school in Seoul?
hello guys, I am at the moment in Seoul, Korea and attending a language school to learn Korean. I read in many bulletin boards, that people are looking for language schools in Seoul. I also was looking for a long time last summer for a language school, which is good but not to expensive, because I don’t have much money and finance the whole trip by myself. The school I am attending at the moment is really good, so I wanted to tell you about it, as a help for people who are also looking for a school. The School is called “Best Friends” and is located in the Sinchon, what is like the students area, because you have a lot of Universities around like Yonsei, Ewha and Sogang Univ. The school offers many different classes like group class, private class and also classes in the evening and on Saturdays. I am attending the group class and have classes Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 am to 1 pm. . There are really small classes like it says on the website. The first month I had 2 other students and know 3 other students, who area learning Korean with me. So far I had 2 different teachers and both where really nice. They tried really hard to explain us everything, even I still have big problems with the Korean language. Once a moth they hold a “Global party” and a “culture class”, which is a lot of fun. The fee is another topic. Even Korean Universities enjoy a good reputation, they are still really expensive. Among the private language school, “Best Friends” is one of the cheapest ones in Seoul. The monthly class fee is about 330.000\, which is around 280$. Ok I think this will be enough for know. Maybe take a look at the website: http://www.bestfriendcenter.com moreResolved Question: do you pronounce LOL differently?
so just yesterday my 5 year old daughter told me that LOL is actually an acronym which stands for laugh out loud i think. When I read LOL before i just thought people were saying the word lohl, which means "guess what" in dutch. Since this is a diverse country I thought everyone was into speaking different languages so I would say lamfaoh in return, which is a slang term for Shalom, which means hello. I guess my lamfaoh became a huge success because now everyones saying it but they say it as LMFAO which I guess it's okay since we live in AMERICA. but now my DAUGHTER is saying that it actually means laughing my flabby azz off. do you think that we as a society probably alter words and make them into acronyms in order to stop sounding as if we have a natural facination with different languages? I read in a picture-chapter book once that every person living always wishes to learn different languages. My POINT is: do you pronounce LOL as "lohl" or do you say L-O-L like normal people? moreVoting Question: Revealing a fallacie and bringuing ordinary language into symbolic form.?
Hello people, Can anyone help translating this argument in ordinary language into symbolic form and revealing the fallacie in it? Here is the text: For there must be something simple before all things, and this must be other than all the things which come after it, existing by itself, not mixed with the things which come after it, existing by itself, not mixed with the things which derive from it, and all the same able to be present in a different way to the other things, being really one, and not a different being and then one; it is false even to say of it that it is one, and there is ‘no concept or knowledge’ of it; it is indeed ‘beyond being’. For if it is not to be simple, outside all coincidence and composition, it could not be a principle; and it is the most self sufficient, because it is simple and the first of all: for that which is not the first needs that which is before it, and what is not simple is in need of its simple components so that it can come into existence from them. I work in a grocery store and theres this fellow, once again I will go by different names here, we'll call him "John." Anyway, John in a sense if a one of my many supervisors and hes the youngest. He's 25 and I'm 21 almost 22. We work together often and we get along very well and hes usually laughing at all my jokes (I don't tend to joke around with the others, they have a sense of humor of a dead goldfish) and is always making a point to say hello to me. Example, like tonight when I was leaving work I was on my way out to clock out for the day he saw me walk by. He was in a back office with the door open talking to HIS boss. A few seconds later he quickly walks out and calls out my name like hes so happy then he won a million bucks. I walk back and he asked some work related things but it was non sense no brainer stuff. ( I think an excuse to strike a conversation with me?) then he asked if I was going home. Then he asked when I work next and when he would see me again (looking right into my eyes). I told him Saturday but he won't be back until Monday to which he replied, "Awww I;m overnight this weekend. Definitely Monday." The entire conversation his body language was relaxed and very casual. He was also looking into my eyes but sometimes break away cause...well, I don't know lol. I guess I can't quite convey it right in text, I guess it was the way he was saying it. I'm probably miss understanding his polite demeanor for flirting. Someone clarify? BTW I'm with someone else, I aint trying to get with this guy, I just dont want to come right out and ask cause he is my boss and I have to work with him everyday. I don;t want to make things awkward or put my foot in my mouth for asking. Regardless, I just want to be friends. He;s really kind and VERY easy going. moreResolved Question: I learn English and need your help!=P?
Hello to everyone,I attend and language school and study English.. I had to write a composition about a future creation and I would you to correct my mistakes.Could you help me,please? If I were a future scientist,I would invent a machine which can create men. I think we've never been completely satisfied of them...There are men who are too lazy, too superficial, other men are too selfish or ill-mannered. A man too often disappoints a woman, whose qualities are far different from his:for example a woman can listen to someone, give advices, console, say something clever and so on.. So in my opinion we don't really need men, rather we only need someone who can keep us company and would you refuse a machine which can create a man as you like? It's quite tall and large and it can take up a big part of your room if it's not very big.It has a keyboard which you can use to choose your man's qualities and look. You can choose his hair colour and style, his nose, his lips, his eyes, his height and weight...On the left There's also a big touch screen and a pencil which you can use if you're a good drawer and so if you're also able to draw him,but to give him birth you've to insert a small bottle full of your blood in a little tray on the right. When you create your man, you've also to choose how much time he has to live, people generally give them 3 or 4 hours of life, which it's the time you spend you decide to go with him to a restaurant,to the cinema,to go shopping,or the time you can spend at home watching a movie if you don't want to go out. When your man is going to die he has to go again in the machine, because the blood you used to give him birth has to liquefy to be used everytime you want to create another man. My machine would be a good alternative for women who have decided to be on their own,I know people will also be tired and bored going always out with a person who does everything you want and say,but it could be a good diversion. Before selling it,I would like to make it try for free to my customers and know what they think about it...I'm repeating it...what you create with it it's not a robot,it's a real man who's a short life. THANK YOU VERY MUCH :-P moreResolved Question: What does "pansy myself" mean?

Hello there, I had a weird dream that I had one night, it was long and I kept having the same dream over and over again but each dream was a different version kind of. Okay the dream was a big field, all black, nothing, just a vast field, and I was carrying something on my back or something. Everytime I moved, I felt something, like adrenaline going through me at 100 m/h, but I'd keep walking, and I would go back and fourth. When I tried to interpret that dream, i though that it was some sort of vision, a vision that I was in hell, you know, but I wasn't burning or anything, I was just carryiny things back and fourth, it felt like I was doing a chore for the devil, HELL! Excuse me for my language but I am a Christian, and I don't intend to go to hell, but that dream made me feel weird and made me do things, things that would probably make my life straight......and that's basically it. The first time I had that dream was in Autumn of 2002 or 2003, then a few years later, I had it again, like 3 years ago, now it's 2010, heh, I hadn't had any dreams since then, but I do, happy dreams lol. The last one was really weird, I would have this dream but I wasn't in it, I would only see a huge green-like onject, getting bigger and bigger, then smaller and smaller, it just repeating itself, this one's a short dream becuase after a few times growing in and out, the dream just went away. hello this my friend life story I grew up with an innate sense of justice and fairness, constantly uneasy and at odds with the oppressive Islamic regime in Iran, both in my schooling and in the wider society. I was expelled from school when I was 17 years old and was banned from every high school in the region because of my political activities. Despite this I became a professional footballer and ran my own clothing business. As I grew older I became more actively involved in the movement for democracy against the fundamentalist regime. But unfortunately my political activism against the barbaric rule led me to prison, torture, and finally to the point that I had to flee for my life. > After a very stressful and frightening journey, I arrived in Britain in November 1995 and applied for asylum. Life was very different. Little information of the outside world had penetrated Iran and I found the culture very shocking. I spoke no English and felt completely isolated. I spent months in a detention centre unable to understand what was happening to me. I was suddenly released with no information or guidance as to what to do next. > Five years passed with no decision from the Home Office. In this time I managed to learn the language, find a job and make a life and a home for myself in London . Between 1997 and 1998 I undertook and completed an ESOL elementary certificate at North West College , Kilburn. In 1998 I began a National Diploma in Business and Finance at Kingsway College , Kings Cross. I completed a year of this three year programme, however, after receiving an unconditional offer to study for a BSc degree in Computer Science and Maths I transferred to North London University (now Metropolitan University ). Unfortunately after only two weeks my asylum application was refused and under UK law I had to withdraw from the programme. > My hopes were shattered as the Home Office refused my case and my studies were taken away from me. I was told I was not allowed to work any more and I was not entitled to any help from the government. I was told that I would be deported back to Iran where I would face capital punishment because of my political beliefs and my religion – I am a Christian. > I spent nearly two years sleeping rough, moving from place to place and other four years in destitution however, I refused to become a criminal. My weight dropped and I became seriously depressed. I was admitted to hospital twice, severely malnourished. My lowest point came when I was admitted to a mental health institution and placed under suicide watch. I decided to fight back and started campaigning against this injustice as I realised that no-one deserves to die like this. > I started to educate myself in asylum legislation and migration issues. I learnt my country Iran is the second largest host of refugees in the world after USA and the UK was number 9 in Europe alone. The UK was the 4th largest economy in the world Iran ranked far below economically and took far more refugees. Yet it was in Britain that certain politicians and sections of the media was saying the country was flooded with (bogus) asylum seekers. > Through my research I became aware of organisations that helped refugees and asylum seekers. People provided me with accommodation and I began campaigning in earnest. I learnt more about the way the Home Office is run, the way that immigration is used as a tool of politics and the resulting policy decisions that are taken. > It was very hard to fight without any resources but I was determined to bring changes to the system. I started working with humanitarian organisations such as Amnesty, UNHCR, Refugee Council, Liberty and Churches Together to break the myths of asylum and show the reality of how people fleeing persecution are really treated. I completed a course in Human Rights Advocacy run by Amnesty International and Education Action International. At the end of the course my certificate was presented by Shami Chakrabarti who became a great supporter of my case. I trained with London Citizens on the Community Leaders programme. I spoke with national and international media including the BBC, Sky News, Channel 5, The Independent, The Telegraph, Channel 2 in France and many others. I made a film with Amnesty and Nick Broomfield as part of their Still Human, Still Here campaign. This short film can be viewed here: please click on the second box in the page (lady with the green T shirt). Hello, everyone this bad things happened at school I really need to know what to do about. I'm 14 in the 8th grade I have two journals 1 for school and 1 for personal stuff. You see I write bad stuff about people in my personal journal whenever they insult me cause I try not to cause trouble so I just write stuff. Well I wrote about 2 monts ago about this girl Taylor Watt who insulted when we had a sub.She acts nice around teachers. Taylor W. showed her true colors by insulting me and threating me I deal with people insulting me and stuff I write it in my personal journal well see I wrote bad things about taylor w. using lots of curse words and stuff. Well the situation is after I came from my 3rd period class. Taylor came to the class it seems she found the paper and she gave it to Ms.Paris Ms. Paris then asked Mikenzie(a student in the same class as Taylor W. came and got me and told me Ms.Paris wanted me) I went to see what she wanted and I saw Ms.Paris with that journal entry my heart sant she said,"stuff like this is unacceptable in my classroom" and lectured me she said she was gonna turn that into the principle. People I need your help moreResolved Question: Hello Americans: Hey! ..What are Americans really thinking.......?
Why are americans so dramatic when they know of an immigrant speaking in some language other than English??? I mean,.. they just go berserk,.. their blood boil and become some Hitler reincarnation... My real question is how many languages does the average american speak??? I am not saying immigrants shouldn't at least try to learn English,.. in fact I am hear to reassure you that we all do,.. we try,. but once a human bran has learned one particular language it is nearly impossible to learn a second lenguage as good as the first one,.. what I am saying is that it's not like we dont want to learn,.. who wouldn't want to better themselves? its just that for an adult mastering a second language is really hard,.. specially when that person don't just sit around all day in a spa or a library trying to learn the language.... but seriously,.. I am an immigrant from Peru,.. my native language is spanish -Peru is in Latin America- (as I am sure you didnt know, because well, you americans cannot even find America in a map,.. of course that doesnt mean you are ignorant is just that poor little americans dont own maps...) I took French, Italian, German and English lessons,.. I do understand 100 % of spoken English yet I will always have an accent, and I feel more confident when speaking my native language,.. Besides, just the fact that someone choses to come here, means they are interested in this cultutre, in the american way of life,.. that they want to learn from America.. meaning they most likely want to assimilate to the American culture,.. yet again is not that easy, after a lifetime immersed in their native traditions and custumes, they will not just become Britney Spears the moment they step into American soil, ok? and I know it has been said forever before,. but diversity is the beauty in America,.. in my country all we have is peruvians,.. I am not puting down my own fellows peruvians but to me, american are more unique, becuase of the diversity thing... ok? but really do you all master many different languages? and did you think it was the easiest thing to do? moreVoting Question: Help me translate these into different languages?
In Italian, German and Russian how do you say these? - I love you - Hello - How are you - Happy Easter moreResolved Question: What should I do about this situation? (it is long because I explain nearly the whole story)?
Okay, so I’m totally confused and tired of feeling helpless about this situation I’m in. It all started three years ago in sixth grade. In my band class I met this guy. Well, I was in a flute class with three guys, but that’s beside the point! Let’s call the guy I’m talking about Josh. I was the first prepared, first chair, and the first to catch on to everything we were learning. Josh was always second. He and I were both shy too, at the beginning. Soon though, we started this sort of game of whenever he wrote in the notes (we weren’t supposed to so we could learn them) I’d tell on him. It always ended up with the two of us laughing, and then we started talking during class (often making jokes between us). He started inviting me to play basketball with him and his friends in gym. Then, he started calling me. At first, it was really annoying, and I’d just hang up on him. This went on for most of the year. One day, Josh gave me a bag of cookies he bought at lunch and gave them to me. He proceeded to do so, too. He bugged me about who I had a crush on, and when he found out he always wanted to three-way us. I started to stay on the phone with Josh (when it was he and I) and I started enjoying talking to him. After spring break I started to develop a crush on Josh, too. I finally asked him out, and only a couple days later he gave me a ring after school. Of course, being sixth graders it wasn’t really the whole bf-gf type thing. He invited me to go to a baseball game with him, but I didn’t get to go because I had to go to the doctor and get a shot and stuff, and I invited him to go to Chuck E Cheese’s with me. Hey, don’t laugh it was my little brother’s birthday and he brought a friend and so I got to bring someone! At the end of the first grading period in seventh grade I broke up Josh. We stayed friends though. He even called a couple times. Come eight grade, things were a tad different. Still friends, and still in friendly competition for first chair (although I kept it until this year) the year seemed to be normal. Half way through the year, he and this one girl who I’m not fond of started going out. I, honestly, didn’t like the pairing. They kept breaking up and getting back together and it was sooo annoying! Apparently, he kissed her one night and the next day she broke up with him. I was thankful of their permanent break-up. Then he had to go the hospital during a field trip. Word got around during school and I was so worried about him! I asked even his best friend, but he didn’t have a clue what was going on in the days to follow, nor did he seem to be making as big of a deal of it as I was. I missed Josh in band class. When time came for us to try marching band he and I were totally lost, but stuck together. Near the end of the year he began saying he was going out with a girl from another school, and from what he described, she was like this one girl and her friends were “ironically” named what his friends were named. I found it hard to believe she was real, but kept that idea to myself. Ninth grade started and I missed him soooooooo much in band! It just wasn’t the same with out him. I do/did see him every morning and he always said hello. Sometimes, after school, we’d walk together for a little and talk. I tried to go to as many foot ball games as I could. I looked for him before all my friends in marching band (mind you, he was only a friend to me then, and I had closer friends in marching band than him). The first semester came and went, and then came winter break. I noticed I thought about Josh quite a bit, and a character in one of my novels shared some of Josh’s qualities. Not only that, that character was planned to be paired with the character like me. After break, we were in the same band class. He’s finally first chair. A couple times, we walked to band together and once we ran into each other going to our foreign language classes. I admitted to myself to having a crush on him. I felt like a hypocrite too, because when he was breaking up and getting back together with the girl mentioned above I said I’d never do that. I started thinking about him non-stop and I started dreaming about him almost every night. In most of the dreams he was denying me. Feeling the need to say something, I started telling one of our friends about my situation. She doesn’t have much to say. She told him I liked him again, but he said that he doesn’t want to go out with anyone right now (this was several months ago). Things seemed fine for a while, but now he’s stopped talking to me (except he said happy birthday) and he’s ignoring all of my friend’s texts. A couple months ago I started wanting to tell him that I love him, but I don’t know why. I was fourteen at the time, surely I can’t mean it, can I? I didn’t tell him; he’d freak out! Nowadays, I’m wishing I had never broken up with him and wish I would’ve hung out with him more. ReceOh, and he and I have even shared similar experiences before we knew each other. Like (for example) we've both learned that hot wings and chocolate milk don't mix the hard way. And today, one of our band friends was sneezing a ton, and no one seemed to notice. Well, Josh was saying 'bless you', but finally, i asked our friend if he was okay. He said 'yeah, thanks', and then I turned back to my stand. While I was turning though, I caught Josh's eye and he was giving me this weird look. It really confused me and only lasted for a second.Oh, and I've even been checking our horoscopes: I'm an aries and he's a taurusUm, but how do I convince him to get back together with me? I'm sort of afraid that if I say anything to suggest that he'll act really weird and won't even be friends with me.... moreResolved Question: Hello. How many different ways can you write it?
Person that says hello in the most languages gets the points. moreResolved Question: frustrated beyond belief. Does he like me? Or is he playing around?
I am British and he is from a European country. We are both on our year abroad in university. He is slightly older than me and we have been meeting in our university campus between and after classes for like two months now. I approached him and sort of asked him for his number after we spent some three hours together in January. Initially I did the texting for like a week, after which I stopped taking the initiative and left it to him. He then took over the texting aspect. We constantly text each other in college to find out when we both are free so we can meet up. We went out on Valentines Day for a movie, coffee, lunch but no one wished each other. We have going for movies, lunches, teas walks during college hours when we are free and weekends but he hasnt made a move on me however he is always suggesting to meet up all the time. He is very caring and is always interested in my life and remembers stupid details from our conversations. We have amazing conversation for hours with extended eye contact. We have exchanged family stories and everything, its crazy. He tries to do all British-isms and speaks in a British accent which I find rather funny. Once after a movie I joked a lot that his hair went all funny after leaning back on the movie seat. The next day he left college early to go to the hairdressers :) We have exchanged books and music stuff as well. We go out for lunch all the time. Recently we spent ten hours together on the weekend. He lives far away from my house, he picked me up and dropped me home. On my birthday, we went out for lunch, movie and coffee and he didnt let me pay although we usually split the bill. Its so obvious we like each other but does he just like me as a friend? One problem may be that my friends back home say that I can intimidate men because (I'm not being immodest) I am attractive and carry myself well and men apparently feel I'll reject them. What do I do? I like him so much and want him to say something or at least make a move. Also he's rather shy. He was talking about good chocolate is in his country once and yesterday he got a huge slab of chocolate to university and because he is so crazily shy or just stupid in social situations, he couldn’t bring to tell me that he had got the chocolate for me and claimed it landed in his bag just randomly. He took it out of the bag, showed it to me, read the writing at the back in different languages, played around with it but couldn’t tell me it was for me- which it was. He is so painfully shy. I don’t think he can ever ask me out or tell me he likes me. His parents are aware of my existence, his father said hello to me over the phone. Everyone we know thinks we are going out. Recently someone from his class teased him about me being his girlfriend in front of us and he went really red and laughed nervously for a bit. Am I just wasting my time on a hopeless person? Or does he like me and can’t say it? Is it socially acceptable for me to tell him I like him? Back in the UK it is. Or is he saying nothing because we actually don’t have time left? moreResolved Question: Army ActiveDuty 35W/P question about language assignment at DLI.Will I have a choice from available languages?
Hello, I enlisted under 35W to train for 35P. I ship to BMT on Apr. 26th and am scheduled to start at DLI on Aug. 9th. I have heard different information about how language assignments are made. I've heard that they will be made according to Army needs, which can been understood by the number of class slots open for a given language at DLI. The day I am scheduled to start at DLI there are: 72 slots for Chinese 48 slots for Korean 36 slots for Arabic & few slots for other languages. That being said, since there are multiple language classes starting that day, will I be given a choice between them? I have heard that you might have a choice from those available, possibly depending on your DLAB score. Just so you know, I scored a 131. Also, when my father was at DLI, if two soldiers wanted the assignment of the other and were both qualified for it, they could trade assignments. From what I understand, prior training doesn't factor into the language decision, is that correct? I was in an intensive Chinese language program in Shanghai. I would really like to continue learning the language and given that it has the largest number of slots when I begin at DLI, my chances seem good...? Or am I just dreaming? Thank you for your insight. And I would love to hear any other advice about the MOS, DLI or Amry life in general for a linguist. Thanks again! moreVoting Question: how to contact people who are immigrating?
Hello I and a couple of friends who speak different languages are starting a translation business, we speak a total of 8 languages amongst us. I want to be able to contact the people who need translation services to let them know about my service, but I don't know how to do that. I have been cold-calling law offices, book publishers, and some businesses but I guess cold calling doesn't work. So I have decided to get in touch with the people who need translation directly. How can I get in touch with the people that are travelling to the united states from another country? for example, if i could contact the students that are coming to the US to study and may need their school certificates and grades translated, that would be great. If I could contact the people who need their marriage certificates translated, that would be so nice. As an example, lets say someone is coming from Germany to the USA to study. How would I find this person? do i contact the immigration services in Germany? can i get a list of all the immigrants and study abroad students? Was it Mosh Arfa? How about Ana ma aref or La tarid? In my book what means ma as in "Amma" but I think I heard someone who say that it was menu In my book heart means qalb, in Egyptian it was alb as in Koll ma fi albeik there are so many more that I had seen You know what, I had been looking for something it seems that I had found the twin sister, same wajh but different!
