Open Question: Guitar Help....................?

Hi, I'm an 18 year old upcoming guitarist. I don't know much yet, and I'm slightly overwhelmed by how much there is to know about guitar. But I'm eager to learn, and ready to be an excellent guitarist. So far I know all the open chords, many barre chords, Pentatonic/Blues scale, Major scale, and I'm probably forgetting a few other things. I'm starting to get the hang of the Dorian and Myxolydian modes, but I'm not quite comfortable with them yet. But knowing that, What should I do to improve my playing? What types of things should I practice? How should I practice? P.S. I can't read sheet music (but hope to in the future). And I can no longer afford private lessons. P.P.S. I really like all types of music (except country), and I love to record cool chord progressions and then improvise over them (especially blues stuff). P.P.P.S. Many of my heroes are from the '60s and '70s like The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton (and Cream), The Who, Buddy Guy, B.B. King, etc. But I also enjoy music from every era. Strangely enough, many of the modern artists I like are more singer/songwriters rather than guitarists (like Jason Mraz, Jack Johnson, Justin Nozuka, Donavon Frankenreiter, G. Resolved Question: Learning 'deficiency' in processing information/cognitive function?

Hi all, This is a little complicated but I'll try my best to explain. I'm 28 and appear to have some sort of deficiency in learning tasks which are complex and cannot resolve them by practicing over and over. Two examples: Driving. I can't drive. I've had hundreds of lessons and driving around on normal roads is absolutely no problem at all but when I need to concentrate on several things at once, my brain literally cannot handle that much information. If for example I am approaching a roundabout, I need to be concentrating on speed, braking, indicating, looking for traffic and working out which lane to be in - all at the same time. Same with junctions. I honestly cannot respond to so many different things at the same time like part of my brain isn't functioning correctly. It's like an overload thing and I end up not being able to do ANY of it (and its not just panic either). Second example: I'm trying to learn how to play the piano but absolutely cannot grasp sheet music. I can just about work out which note is on which line but when you have to play with two hand AND follow each note, I can't work out where my hands are supposed to be AND follow the music on paper at the same time - if I try then I lose my place on one or both of them. When you add to that things like pitch, tone etc it's all waaaaay too complicated. Like driving lessons, I've tried and tried and tried and it's just not working out. Is it possible that I have some sort of 'deficit' in learning in terms of a learning disorder, or could these problems be attributed to a moderately serious head injury which occurred 8 years ago? I'm genuinely of the opinion now that it is not me being 'dim' or simply needing more practice. I do honestly believe there's some sort of cognition problem in my brain. How do I find out for sure? Should I go for tests or a brain scan? If so, what sort of tests can be done to look at cognitive functioning? Any advice would be very much appreciated - and PLEASE don't just tell me to carry on practicing (which I will anyway - at least with the piano because you can't crash one of those!). more

Hey all you musicians. I was wondering if there were any places on the interwebs that I could find some free downloadable sheet music for Franck's Sonata in A major, more specifically Movement 4 (Allegretto Poco Mosso) for CELLO, not Violin, because that is all that I can find. Yo-Yo Ma and Jacqueline Du Pre' do great interpretations and I want to learn it too. None of my local music stores seem to carry this piece, which is sad. I don't want a link to an Online retailer, because I can find plenty of those. Thanks in advance! more

She wouldn't shut up about how gross my older brother is, said I was a bad sister for having short patience with my younger brother altough she clearly had a right to be very rude to my older brother (she came and complained to me about how her arm hurt because my older brother "punched" her (jokingly of course) when I asked her what happened she said she punched him first though (not in a joking way) and said it all like she didn't deserve it), at night she kept banging he ipod on the floor trying to get it to work then got mad at me when I took her headphones out in the morning (her music was still on really loud) and said I messed up her ipod by doing so, kept saying I was grumpy when I was being quiet which then put me in a bad mood, would talk a bunch as I was trying to fall asleep, called me selfish when I mentioned I could use both my ipods in the car (one has music, the other has apps) because I wasn't offering her one and hers was messed up so it;s hard to switch songs, got mad at me for quietly playing guitar during a movie while at the same time she was standing behind the sheet (it was on a projector) making shapes on the screen. Ahh, I swear I can't stand being around her most of the time, I don't even know why were best friends.Yeah, we've been friends for 6 years now, she's definitely not the same ha. okay so i just finished my grade 8 RCM exam and i can now FINALY play something i want to. But the downside is that i have nooo idea what to play. Resolved Question: scammed by New Faces Development Centre in Hicksville...Plz help!!?

Hi! I was stopped at Roosevelt Field Mall by one of the scouts of New Faces Development...He said that this company provided exposure so that I could land into a job in acting or modelling. They gave me a call immediately and booked my interview appointment at New Faces immediately. When I went there it all looked so real....with several people waiting in line to be actors or models...There was music...A TV screen advertising IMTA and showing prominent successful prominent actors who had become successful in life. They asked me to fill out a form...Then this guy called Tim called me in for interview ....and he seemed like he was in a hurry and busy becoz his office was so full of people....He just asked me why I was there and told me that I could do this as a hobby and had a lot to offer in the entertainment industry....He showed me a folder filled with pictures of people that they had photographed at New faces and they had appeared in magazines and print ads....And he had so many of those fotoes...It all sounded so legit. Then he showed me his price list sheet which had all the prices of the fotoes listed....some of them were so costly like over 2100 etc...I told him that I was not working and did not have so much money to pay for them. There was a price for photographing 1 look listed for $750. Then he said "I will give you a discount....I will give you 3 looks for $750". I thought it was a good deal and gave him my credit card. He charged my credit card. Then he said ..."lets get started with the first look photoshoot today...and you come back day after tommorrow to shoot the next two looks with more clothes." He then showed me the make up room where their make up artist did my makeup and their photographer took my photoes.....Then as I walked out of there I felt a bit uneasy....becoz in that meeting he had asked me not to tell anyone about the money that I paid!!....So, I decided to check the internet and OMG...I found a whole bunch of articles stating that it is a scam!! and ripoff reports that they have been reported to BBB also...I printed out some of those ripoff reports and went back yesterday to the New faces center. I told him "I have found reports that you are a scam and want my money back. You have been reported to the BBB". Then he said " Macys, HomeDepot etc have scam reports too but do people stop going there? And now you see scam reports against us....I am not going to let that stop me from doing my business ...We have been in business for 16 years...I have my daughter working for me too....And look at all these people we have placed in the industry."....I said "I dont want to continue this any more and want my money back". He said "Well you took pictures already right?" I said "I have called my credit card people already and have asked them to stop the payment you charged me". He said "You cant just walk into a restaurant and pay there and then cancel the credit card transaction the next day...Thats illegal...YOU are scamming us."....He further said " And you took pictures with us....and look at our price list...We have 1 look for $750...and I was being nice to you by giving you the other two looks for FREE". I argued " But you didnt tell me that the other two looks are free...you just said that you were giving me a discount. So, you can divide the $750 by 3 and deduct $250 and give me back $500 at least". He then went back to his list and said "No!!....Our list says that 11 look was for $750...and I was giving you the other two looks for free. Dont change our words...You are scamming us by changing our words."..So basically he was not going to give me my money back. In the end I asked him to give me my CD of pics...and he said I will have to come back next week to get it plus I will have to pay $45 for the CD also (which was part of the agreement). So, I couldnt argue the fact that his price list had $750 for 1 look and he got me to pay it by telling me about this "discount" and photographing me the same day. So, when I got back I called my credit card people and asked them to let the $750 go through since I couldnt argue his price list. And now I have to go back to get my CD. But I feel scammed. I feel he shouldnt have gone back to his original price list of $750 per look after telling me that he was giving me a discount. And now he is telling me that I am scamming him !!...Plus he told me that "BBB was a Bunch of Bullshit...that gets complaints everyday..."...He said " You cant just listen to negative side of things...You have to listen to positive side of things too.."....Plus he looked at my copy of ripoff reports that I confronted him and told me that the complaints were 6 years old....and he was not believing them!! What should I do? Can something be done to stop these people from extracting money out of people by foolCan anyone out there PLEASE HELP ME?? PLEASE... THANKS. more

Voting Question: Why can't i figure piano out?

I know, i know. But this question is for all you talented pianists out there. started playing when i was 6, now 14 this year. it seems like i'd be reaalllyyy good, but i'm not exactly what i'm supposed to be. (not to be conceded) but i know i've been blessed with a talent that has a good ear for good music, and can understand and feel music easily. i want to be able to sit down at my piano and just play music, but i can't! I need some sort of sheet music in front of me! Why? I just can't figure piano out. I WANT to learn and i'm WILLING to give every bit of energy and time into be a great pianist but where do i start? how do i just let it take over and my hands just PLAY? more

Resolved Question: Do you think this would this work at all?

I am trying to play "My Immortal" by Evanescence, and while I've figured out almost the whole entire song by myself, there are some parts that won't come together, or I can't figure out. I remember listening to a "Whisperer" on YouTube, it's just someone who whispers things to relax you, and he was whispering about a dream he had with about a boy, that night, while listening to it, I had a dream about almost the same thing. So, do you think if I put the song on repeat and leave it on all night playing in my ears, that I might be able to play it better? And I can't really read sheet music, and i don't have the sheet music for this song anyways so that's not entirely an option.. Thanks for your help :) more

Resolved Question: Why won't my itunes work? please answer, i want to listen to music!?

well i share the computer with my mom, so when the computer went to the home screen you could click on my name or go to my mom's. i don't remember what you call that, i geuss we had like our own accounts? anyway, my accountish type thing got a virus, so we both were just using my moms to get to the internet and things like that. we had to put it on "safe mode with networking" because we really need the internet connection. well when we started my moms i decided to delete my acount thing so it asked me to check all the things i wanted to save, so i ended up bringing my itunes folder over to my mom's account. Well the folder that is supposed to have my music in it opens, but nothing is inside, it's just a sheet that has weird writing on it, not the normal itunes with my music. well i thought since my mom has her own itunes, i would plug in my ipod touch, and i could have all my music in her itunes, and the problem would be fixed. but when i doc in my iPod, it says "this mobile device has not started" (something along those lines) and it opens my moms itunes, but with her music, and it doesn't register my ipod or my music. i tried to download the new itunes thinking i could just start over, but my computer says there was a problem with downloading the new version. so apparently in safe mode you cannot add or remove anything, which is what the ipod help site said to try to do before you downloaded the new version of itunes. so how can i get my mom's itunes (she doesn't have an iPod she just uses limewire and itunes to download and listen to music) to accept my ipod so i can get all my music in hers, along with my apps. i really want to add more songs and games, but i can't do anything until her itunes accepts my iPod touch. please help, any good answers are greatly appreciated!! thanks so much! (: oh and it does charge my ipod, but normally it would pull up my itunes and my music, but now it just brings up my mom's itunes, with only her songs (all 17 john mayor songs!) and it doesn't say my ipod is connected, but it charges anyway. more

Resolved Question: Bible Based Dream Interpretation Needed, Anyone Called to Interpret My Dream For Me?

Last night I had a very disturbing dream involving the devil. Before I fell asleep I felt this deep, dark, ominous feeling that I was going to have a very bad nightmare. So I fell asleep. I was in my room on my bed and the wall next to me began to move, speak, and do things by itself as if it came alive. Every time I was about to fall asleep the wall began to do something and even moved my bed. Then I saw that the wall next to me was dripping with water and warped outwards and began to say something then stopped. The weather outside was not rainy and there are no pipes inside the wall but the wall was wet and bent out of shape towards me. I turned on the lights, threw the sheets aside and went downstairs. The clock said 4AM. For some reason (I know not) I started to play the piano and this extraordinarily beautiful music I never knew I could play, I began to play. Nobody woke up, telling me either nobody was in the house or the people had died. I went back upstairs and tried to sleep but the wall tried to touch me and I turned on the lights and noticed all of the inanimate objects in my room started to move on it's own at my peripheral vision and stop when I looked. So I began punching the desk, the bookshelf, and all of the furniture getting angry and my hands were getting bloodier and bloodier and I yelled, "TO THE ONE WHO IS TEMPTING ME YOU WILL BE PUNISHED!!" and I woke up from the dream yelling the word "PUNISHED" and I knew I said it in real life but the next morning, when I asked, nobody remembered that I said anything when I woke up. Could this dream mean the devil is trying to attack and own me or something? Why did I get this dream? more

Resolved Question: What are some great songs to sing for a basso profundo?

My Fall semester is starting at my college and I'm trying to figure out what songs to sing in my Voice class. I AM a basso profundo maybe even an Oktavist, not a bass, correct classification for my voice is Lyrical Basso Profundo. And My range is from Middle C down to ~E1, and songs I have sang are "Ave Maria", "Slow March", "The Sea", "In diesen heil'gen Hallen", "Deep River", "Most Men", "Old Man River", and that's all I can remember right now. I would like to sing something short (I really don't want to memorize a ton of verses because I have 19 hours of classes), but low; my range ,currently, maxes out at Middle C comfortably. And also if you know any way to get into singing as a proffession comment please because currently I'm thinking between singing or medicine as a major. This is going to be long, sorry! I've never really had an issue with my mother in law, up until my wedding. My husband is in the armed forces and our wedding was pretty last minute. It was tough trying to get it together, but we were doing what we could. We sadly had to borrow a lot of money from my MIL for the wedding, but we were definitely planning on paying her back, and not spending a lot at all as my parents were doing what they could, even while bankrupt. We had decided on a Chapel that would do a wedding for 2,500. It was small, quaint, sweet, and they gave you a lot of stuff like flowers, decorations, candles. It was IDEAL, and my husband and I had really wanted THAT chapel, but my mother in law decided she didn't like it. They didn't have an opening on the day SHE wanted the wedding and at the time she wanted it, so she found somewhere else and booked up without consulting us. The place she booked happened to be in the basement of a bar. I had told my MIL that I wanted VERY few people there, not just to reduce costs, but because I always saw my wedding as VERY intimate time for only very close friends and family. I didn't want more than 20 people there. She said OK, and invited ALL of her coworkers, (my husband had no idea who some of them were). She actually had a sign up sheet at her workplace, and invited all the cousins under the rainbow. This broke my heart, as ALL of my family lives in England, so it's not like I could just invite mine over. I had my parents and a couple of friends, where as my husband had all these random people. She knows I hate roses, so she bought rose flowers for decorations. "I know you don't like them, but they're so cute." Along with deciding that her coworkers sister should make my wedding cake. She let me choose the style and flavoring, but when we got the cake it was NOTHING like what I had asked for. I later found out that even though I wanted a 2 tier cake, my MIL ordered a 3. With the food, she ordered all this meat stuff, knowing I was a vegetarian. I asked her what I was going to eat and she told me she would make me some MAC AND CHEESE. My mother made me my own special dish, but I was so insulted. People turned up to our wedding in jeans and casual shirts. They complained about the music Adam and I had chosen for our wedding, and I didn't hardly know anyone. The whole time during the wedding, I wanted to leave and cry. I had TRIED to take control, but she wouldn't let me, and I feel like my husband hardly did anything either.I appreciate her helping, but I feel like she completely disrespected me. I let this go after awhile, because she's my MIL, and I care about her. I gave her the benefit of the doubt. However, a week or so before I left to go to Korea, where my hubby is stationed, she started being extremely passive aggressive. For example, my Sister in Law threw a going away party for me, which was GREAT until my MIL showed up. I was talking to everyone, mingling, and then when my MIL came, she took over. I kept quiet because what she was saying bored me. My MIL knows I have a history of being shy, so she turned over and said "Quiet much?" I just smiled, and she rolled her eyes and scoffed. Again, I just brushed it off. The last straw though was when she tried to talk to me about my mother, who doesn't work (she's very sick, she deals with alcoholism as well as being generally weak and anemic.) My mother is sweet, though, she tries her hardest to be a good person, even if she's not all the time. The fact is, my MIL turned around to me and said "Maybe you're mom should get a job, you know? Or a hobby or something. Maybe your step dad and her could go on a trip". I agreed, but told her how sick my mother is, and plus my mother isn't a people person, as she's EXTREMELY shy, and doesn't like to be around people. She retorted to this with "Sounds like someone else I know", gave me this LOOK" and continued with "You know, maybe you should try and make some army wife friends and start doing something." I found this extremely rude, as I get along with people fine, and I do a lot here. I stopped talking to her after that, and she called my mother telling her she thinks I have an issue with her, which I do. I don't know how to deal with how angry I am at her for her constant rudeness. We recently fostered a dog that was about to be put down, and he chewed up some furniture so she instantly suggests we should take him back to the shelter and scoffs at our efforts to rehome him. (Which, btw, he's made leaps and bounds into a GREAT dog). She's pressured me into adopting his son before, because his sons mom is a *****. I had told her I wasn't ready for a child, and she still pressures me to adopt his son! :( I feel like such a bad person for disliking her so much! more

They complained about the music Adam and I had chosen for our wedding, and I didn't hardly know anyone. The whole time during the wedding, I wanted to leave and cry. I had TRIED to take control, but she wouldn't let me, and I feel like my husband hardly did anything either.I appreciate her helping, but I feel like she completely disrespected me. I let this go after awhile, because she's my MIL, and I care about her. I gave her the benefit of the doubt. However, a week or so before I left to go to Korea, where my hubby is stationed, she started being extremely passive aggressive. For example, my Sister in Law threw a going away party for me, which was GREAT until my MIL showed up. I was talking to everyone, mingling, and then when my MIL came, she took over. I kept quiet because what she was saying bored me. My MIL knows I have a history of being shy, so she turned over and said "Quiet much?" I just smiled, and she rolled her eyes and scoffed. Again, I just brushed it off. The last straw though was when she tried to talk to me about my mother, who doesn't work (she's very sick, she deals with alcoholism as well as being generally weak and anemic.) My mother is sweet, though, she tries her hardest to be a good person, even if she's not all the time. The fact is, my MIL turned around to me and said "Maybe you're mom should get a job, you know? Or a hobby or something. Maybe your step dad and her could go on a trip". I agreed, but told her how sick my mother is, and plus my mother isn't a people person, as she's EXTREMELY shy, and doesn't like to be around people. She retorted to this with "Sounds like someone else I know", gave me this LOOK" and continued with "You know, maybe you should try and make some army wife friends and start doing something." I found this extremely rude, as I get along with people fine, and I do a lot here. I stopped talking to her after that, and she called my mother telling her she thinks I have an issue with her, which I do. I don't know how to deal with how angry I am at her for her constant rudeness. We recently fostered a dog that was about to be put down, and he chewed up some furniture so she instantly suggests we should take him back to the shelter and scoffs at our efforts to rehome him. (Which, btw, he's made leaps and bounds into a GREAT dog). She's pressured me into adopting his son before, because his sons mom is a bitch. Hey guys, we had a girl move into our house a while back so now its me 2 guys and her. she fits in real well, shes met my friends i met hers and had a few laughs ect. so we know eachother real well now. One day she was talking about a house she owns and how she is looking for someone to rent it, i said i have friends looking for a house so we sorted it out and 4 of my friends ended up moving into her house. Time passed and we found out alot of info about eachother Ex. she is christian (i dont have a faith) she is a very talented and piano player, singer and songwriter ect. So yeah, i started to come outside and hang with guests alot more after we knew more about eachother. we would regularly have a few drinks, laughs and play a bit of music on a friday or saturday night. Watch a movie with her in her room because she has a nice big plasma. but that would really be the extent of how far we would hang out. The other guys seemed to be out alot some weeknights and we both dont get around to doing shopping much so we regularly go out to get dinner and stuff giving us 1 on 1 time which is cool. One day i said to one of my good mates that comes around alot (lives in her house) i said "dude ive been thinking about it and i think i liker her".. he laughed it off and im like. "no serious dude", he looked at her from my eyes for about 10 mins then nudges me and says "yeah your right man, theres something about her ai". since that day i knew i liked her and kinda slowly started to make an impression on her, it started with petty flirting and being a bit more phisical. a few more weeks passed on since then and things looked quite the same. Woke up on saturday started gaming and got a call from my mate to see if he wanted to have a few drinks at my house i replied "yeah sure dude come over when u want" he come over at about 2pm and started drinking since then, it hit about 5pm and she came home had a shower ect and come out to talk to us for a bit. we talked and laughed for a few hours till i was pretty smashed, i ordered pizza for us and put them on the kitchen bench, my mate loaded his plate up and went to the couch to watch tv at that time she was leaning up against the sink facing me and i wasnt really paying much attention to what i was doing but i was like putting my knee on the inside of her knee and like opening her leg being playful (have no idea why) and she didnt seem to dislike it at all. i realised half way through, wait up this is getting pretty hot, so i laughed and stopped, sizing up my pizza ready to eat. started eating and my mate got up and asked her if she wanted a beer as he was getting one, she accepted it and talked to me while i ate. I finished my pizza and started on the drink again about ready to go to my room to mash the keyboard and hope people understood what i was saying, just before i was done i hear her call me over to her room, i walk oer and ask whats up. she replies " theres no sheets on my bed, can you help me?" i said yeah sure and helped her put the sheets on her bed. after i was done i stood up and made a smart remark saying " i heard you gota sleep in the bed u made" she laughed and said.. hmm okay but only for 2 mins.. sirens went off in my head at that time but there was no stopping myself. i quickly jumped under the covers and pretty much just had alot of heavy touching and kissing, i left after about an hour and a half going to my room to sleep. my mate asks me in the morning where i got to, so i told him not even thinking about it. annnyways me and her didnt talk about what went on that night and just went on like usual. Me and her were alone one night again and the subject came up and im like yeah i remember.. she is like "dam i thought u would of forgot" joking around, i said nah i didnt, she replies " yeah i know, i heard u telling your mate" i got full cut and replied the first thing that come to my head "well he asked" haha. a couple of months has passed since then and there has been more and more touching, talking about personal stuff and more late nights in her room. Have you ever been walking down the street and realized that you're going in the complete opposite direction of where you are supposed to be going? How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear what they said? 7. In my mid teens or a little before that I was downstairs blasting music in my headphones, on the computer. My conscience jumps in immediately and I get a feeling. My conscience says, "Go check on your mom." I was tripping out. I said no twice. Then my conscience said it more forcefully. I believe it was GOD speaking to me in my thoughts, because I know for damn sure I didn't just start thinking that. Well the third time it was said to me I ran upstairs. Resolved Question: Guitar or Piano.. Which one should I learn?

My birthday is coming up in about a month, and I want a new instrument to play. Over the years, my older sister has gotten a guitar and electric keyboard, and she played with them probably twice before ruining them so she didn't have to play them anymore. My mom told me that she'd rather just get new strings for my sisters old guitar, which I don't really want because it's a piece of sh!t. Which one is easier, if you can even answer that at all? and Which one is cheaper? I already play the flute.. but that's only for band and I'm probably quitting band in high school because of volleyball, and there isn't any good sheet music for the flute that I can find. I just recently signed up for a music theory class at my high school, and it's the first level music theory, now I'm not a music idiot, but my main instrument is guitar and I know that it isn't enough to get me through all music theory. I have played guitar for about 3 years now and I know all my basic chords and I'm working on different chords like suspended chords or using different tuning for chords and transposing and mixing music in different keys. I also play the keyboard fairly decently, and a fellow musician (masters in music at Berkley) told me that's going to be my powerhouse instrument for the course. I can read sheet music, not incredibly quick, but fast enough that I can learn full songs off of it. I've just heard that this subject is long, hard, and painstaking, but it has a wonderful payout, and I just wanted to know if there's anything based on what I said that sounds like it needs improvement, or if there are any helpful tips from any music veterans out there. After being in the music business for 52 years it's just about all I know; anything at all about--and in keeping with my admittedly narrow knowledge--I would like to draw an analogy concerning the Obama administration, viewing things from my vantage point. Ok, let's say you pick out the finest symphony conductor in the world, add the greatest singer and seven or so of the finest classical musicians on the planet. You get them together backstage and say, "Alright, there are twenty thousand fans out front, standing room only, expectations are off the charts, they are looking for the best show they've ever seen. Now the curtain goes up in five minutes, the sound has been checked out, the lights set and everything is perfect, the stage is set for the greatest show the world has ever seen. Now get there and knock 'em out guys! They're all with you; you're all superstars in their eyes. Go show 'em how it's done. Oh, there's only been one change. Tonight you have to do your show playing songs you've never played and you'll have to improvise. There's no sheet music. You'll just have to jam." Can you imagine the panic backstage? You see, some of the very finest musicians on earth can't jam a lick. I remember a few years ago when I had a couple of young fiddle players come on stage with me and play "The South's Gonna Do It Again." They had learned the parts I'd played on the record, arrangement, lead lines and all and played it perfectly note for note. Everything was going swimmingly until I decided to leave the arrangement and jam for a while. When I turned to one of them and told them to take a solo the kid was as lost as a baby sheep in a hale storm. They had no more idea about improvising than they did about how to build a spaceship. "The South's Gonna Do It Again" is a simple twelve bar blues song that any musician from any garage band would be able to take a solo on, but even though these kids were extremely talented and played what they knew perfectly, when it came to jammin, they were totally lost. They had just never learned to do it. To me the presidency is kind of like jammin'. You have to roll with the flow, improvise, adapt to the moment, pick up on what's going on and deal with it. Our president has never had to jam, he's always had the sheet music in front of him and he's never had to play a note somebody else had not written for him. One of the biggest mistakes President Obama made when he came in office was to surround himself with a bunch of players who had never jammed either. None of them have ever had any practical experience in the real world. In essence, they are a bunch of paper tigers, they do an incredible job of spending other people's money and sneaking legislation through the back door, but out in the real world, where there are no scripts, down where the rubber meets the road there is probably not a person in the bunch who could change a flat tire, much less deal with the complex problems America faces. The only thing Obama has done with any problem that has arisen is to throw money at it, and in truth, that's sadly all he knows how to do. When it comes to dealing with things that money alone won't fix like busted oil pipes at the bottom of the ocean or solving the problems on our southern borders he's lost and all those around him are lost. The Obama cabinet is the most inept bunch imaginable. When people have only viewed the world from the top of an ivory tower they don't react very well when it's time to get their hands dirty. Obama's people can't even accept real world concepts of the dangerous situations we're dealing with. Eric Holder wanting to try terrorists in civilian courts, in New York City of all places is nothing less than naïve arrogance. Janet Napolitano's gross inexperience in dealing with security matters is going to end up costing this country dearly. Putting an unqualified person who has never even been a judge on the bench of the highest court in the land, for nothing more than her political leanings is insanity. Everywhere you look you see eggheads with nothing more than a college degree to qualify them for the sensitive jobs they hold. I'm just wondering how long it will take for a majority of the people in this country to realize that the wheel that steers the direction of this nation is in the hands of people who have no idea how to get from point a to point b without a roadmap and that road map just doesn't exist. My School's Marching band is in the need of a piece of music (specifically, the batman theme, the cheesy 1960s tv show intro) I figure that its enough for a musician to write a small, 15-30 second piece that repeats itself. But, I only am using Guitar Pro 5.2 (I can't stand Finale, for many reasons) so none of my instruments can be transposed in the correct pitch (I play Trombone, so you can see this is all news to me). Resolved Question: Is it hard to play the drums?

I'm 14 and really interested in music. I can't read sheet music but as far as I'm concerned I've done fine without it. I can play the piano and a little bit of guitar. I really want to try out the drums but is it any different from the piano or guitar? Well...Obviously it's different, but I hope you know what I mean.. I havent touched a drum set but my music teacher has told me I have a great ear especially at my age with no training. Once we had to do an exercise where a song would play and we had to try to define the different parts of drums in a set, snare, toms, bass, you know. I was the only one who could define them all. We would also listen to many different styles of music and write down what instruments we heard in the song and he said he was surprised the ones I guessed, because I guessed the ones that were the hardest to hear or define or even think of. Maybe it was beginners luck but I'm also pretty good at holding a beat, at least with my hands.. Would it be very difficult for me to learn to play? So I've been playing the piano since I was 6, and recently, I decided I was tired of Bach, Beethovan, Mozart, and Chopin. I've been trying out some pop music to play on the piano. I like playing songs like "Bring Me To Life" by Evanesence, "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion, "Apologize" by OneRepublic, and "When You're Gone" by Avril Lavigne. These songs sound really good on the piano unlike other songs similar to the ones by Linkin Park or Justin Timberlake, which I have tried playing on the piano, but they just don't work out. These types of songs weren't meant to be played on the piano. So does anyone know any good pop songs that would sound amazing on the piano? I haven't been able to find much after those four listed up there^^. I need songs similar to those that could work easily on the piano and would actually sound good. I AM SO SORRY FOR THE LONG QUESTION =[ I JUST NEED HELP =[ =[ =[ well im in this workshop thing, but we're putting on a cabaret performance. i don't know anything we're doing yet, but we're "auditioning" to see what numbers we're placed in. so my point is, i'm not auditioning for a musical or play and i have no clue what character i want, let alone know what the characters are. :P i need a really good audition song with sheet music. the directors are really critical. everyone was asking if he liked their audition songs and well...no. the few ones they used as good audition song examples were "cabaret" from cabaret and anything from spelling bee. but now that they said that, i can't use them because they want us to pick our own, and i don't want to copy them :| they say if they've never heard of it, it's good. also, if they sang it on glee, you can't sing it. (which is bad because i wanted to do "Don't Rain on My Parade" even though i heard about it from drama club, not glee) if it is sung by a well-known person, you WILL get compared to them, so anything like that is a NO. Also, it should be in the same time period as the production you are auditioning for, so i guess my song should be relatively modern. you can sing a non-musical theater song, as long as it wasn't made in the past 5-10ish years, wasn't sung on glee or covered recently (as mentioned earlier) and isn't a big hit or anything. Also, the song should be age-appropriate. No Disney Movies Period Even If They Are Musicals. Right im getting married next week, my older sister is chief bridesmaid, now let me give a little insight, she's a person who walks into a room and start commenting on everything in it the people in it and makes a mountain out of a mole hill, she's is over organised, and generally its her way or NO WAY, so we had some drinks and food back at my new house last night as part of mini house warming, about 20 people in the house and a bit of music in the background, i was sitting at the table talking to my friend, now i was leaning over and yes talking low into her ear cos telling her something private not bi*ching or anything just private, my sister was talking to my cousin when she turns to me and said "your very ignorant whispering" i was saying we're having a private conversation and its loud, She kept saying everyone can see you, i was like "ah no they cant they're all in groups having a chat the only only taking notice is you" she picked up her cup stormed from the table and was leaving, i went outside 5 mins later to say bye to my friend and seen my sister and said "by the way if i want to whisper in my own house its not business, you do want you want i'll do what i want" she called me some very nice names and i didnt hold back either, she stormed off in her car like a bat outta hell!!! This girl would not let you say anything out of place in her house, you need an appointment to visit her cos she's such an important person and has to spend valuable time with her hubby and child and dont bother her basically, she acts like she's royalty, she thinks we're all beneath her and fires out cutting comments to everyone, this really was'nt about the whispering to me it was a case of all the snide remarks she's made in the last few weeks built up and this was my rehearsal and house warming and to me i saw it as how dare you come in here shouting the odd's saying oh i dont like your lights or i dont like this....i do let things go over my head but its only so much i'll take before i snap and dont think im stressed from the wedding cos im not one bit, the wedding was a joy to organise and im not nervous or running around like a headless chicken,everything is in place i just need to show up but she wants a time sheet for the morning and know exactly whats happening, i've it all taken care of but she's just getting worked up and she's not even the one getting married, please give me your opinion and some good advise I also forgot to mention i didnt blow up on her first, i did leave out the part where myself and my friend were continuing another conversation (not whispering) and were basically blanking her tutting at us when she picked up her cup and stormed off to the sink and said to the person she was talking to "i dont need this shi*" so it was her that stormed off first, if she had'nt stormed off i nearly 100% sure would have let it go but i thought hang on girl, i've done nothing wrong in my own home and dont you dare make a scene in front of my inlaws, why did i pick her cos at times i can be weak and she somehow as only she can managed to get that position without me hardly even nominating her, i wanted my lovely younger easy going sister but this is how it worked out, she (chief) also TOLD me "you do know my daughter is your flowergirl" yes girls another weak moment i just went with it!!!! more

I recently within the last 6 months found out that i LOVE music. like i never dreamed of lol. Well anyways im 15 i live in a small town usa pretty much lol. there is one person who plays piano that i know and they aren't interested in giving lessons. so i decided to teach myself =) but the thing is that im not sure if im teaching myself everything i need to know. so thats where u, the intelligent musical community of yahoo answers, comes into play. please let me know if the "plan" i have in my head is insane or if it sounds reasonable or whatever you think lol. I bought a little $200 keyboard off of craigslist. i bought some beginners sheet music for a bunch of coldplay music i like. I do know how to read sheet music but i didnt know how to translate what i was reading and understanding into what i could actually play on the piano (the different keys, some different music theory, ect.). so i looked up this guy on youtube who has a bunch of lessons on just such things. the link is at the end. On one more note, i love to practice on the piano. i really enjoy it. and seeing as how there is JACK for me to do otherwise, im glad i love to play. so practicing isnt an issue =) my plan in short, is to learn 4 different songs over the next year from my coldplay music book, teaching myself all the different concepts and such as i go and just working through it and memorizing the music and everything. and when i am stuck i can turn to the youtube lessons for some clarity and everything. in about. ooooh a year and half maybe? id like to sit down and learn how to play my favorite contemporary song, 100 years by five for fighting. which is an intermediate piece of music. and then once thats all done i just keep moving from song to song, finding music for whatever song i want and then playing it. Resolved Question: What's the name of this musical piece?

I don't really remember much about it except I used to play it when I was little, I think it may be easily recognized by people who have already heard it or know about it. Also, i'm sorry if my terminology is not ver accurate as I don't really know much about musical terms in english I believe it's originally made for piano and it's quite slow and "expressivo" as the music sheet I had used to read if I remember correctly. The right hand would start from a B, then proceed to the next B (going up), finally followed by the adjacent C. After that, the right hand would pretty much stay the same, fluctuating from a "longer" B (maybe a half note) to a "shorter" C (possibly an extended quarter note). The left hand, on the other hand (no pun intended), is always playing three eight notes and the changes are minimal, usually only changing a single finger to an adjacent key every four notes. Also, if it's of any help, the song itself is quite short and was able to fit on a single page with the notes having a decent size. Thank you all in advance. more

Resolved Question: Which hobby/project should I choose?

Over the past few weeks, I've been thinking a lot about taking up an independent project or a hobby. I seem to have more free time than I know what to do with. I've brainstormed a bunch of ideas, and four in particular seemed to resonate with me. The problem is that I like all of them equally, and I can't figure out which to do first. The point of this is to get my ideas out of my head, and to get some feedback. I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts. =) So without further adieu; Idea the First! Writing a completely original mythology. Pros: - It's something that I've wanted to do since I was a kid. - It requires no extra resources or talents, just time and patience. - The scope of this idea is reasonable condensed... Unlike Idea the Second! and Idea the Third!, there is a good chance that I could finish this one. Cons: - I only have a few very rough ideas. - Coming up with something original will be very difficult (I'm not much of an idea man). - While not outright bad, I'm not a particularly strong writer. Idea the Second! Creating a video game that incorporates classic RPG elements within the game of chess. Pros: - I think that this game has the potential to be very fun, both to make and to play. - This project is huge, and will help me occupy my time for months, if not longer. Cons: - This project is huge! There is a good chance that it will end up abandoned. - If I were to make it, I would want to do it in 3d. I have very limited experience with 3d modeling, and next to none with 3d game engines. - There are a large number of elements to this game that I have no clue how to do (i.e. sound production, 3d animation, etc.) I would either have to learn a lot of new skills, or I would have to find people who already know how to do these things. - There is a potential for this project to cost a fair amount of money (i.e. server, software development kits, professional consultants, etc.) Idea the Third! Summary: A massive 'choose your own adventure'/text-based rpg. Pros: - This sounds like a great deal of fun. I get excited just thinking about this. =P - The technological requirements and know-how are very practical. Programmatically, I already have the ability to make it. I won't have to learn anything new. - This requires no graphical elements which will drastically reduce development time. - If I were really crazy, I could combine this idea with Idea the First!. Cons: - Despite the technological simplicity of this idea, it is by far the biggest and most ambitious of the four ideas. After each scene, there needs to be a handful of potential choices... ideally, I would cover all the choices that a person could reasonably make. Each one would have its own fractal outcome. Each main quest line would, essentially, be dozens of novels rolled into one. This will either take me years to do right, or I need to consider accepting third-party story line submissions. - While not outright bad, I'm not a particularly strong writer. Idea the Last! Summary: Learn how to read sheet music and how to properly play the piano. Pros: - This idea is the simplest. - This idea is the most achievable. - This idea is the most realistic. Cons: - This idea is the least exciting to me (don't get me wrong, I would love to learn to play the piano properly, but the other ideas are just so much more exciting...) Well, that's it. Those are the four ideas that I have regarding how to spend my time. Voting Question: PIANO PLAYERS, how do you play what seems like 3 hands with 2??!! I have no clue!?

I have this sheet music and it looks like the right had does 2 things, while the left does its own. I tried it, but it doesn't seem like the right hand even CAN do these things. The 'bottom' part of the right hand has all these fast notes, while the 'top' part only a few. I listened to the piece in question (I have it in my iPhone) & the fast note part is way to flowing, the top part way too pronounced, for those to have been played by the same hand.. or at least it sounds like that to me. It really does sound like they are played by 2 separate hands. They don't sound "linked" if you wanna put it that way, not to mention the notes are far enough apart that my hand doesn't quite make it in both places, granted I have small hands. Hey all. I recently discovered the Cabaret revival soundtrack, and I fell in love with this show. I did not realize that my theater loving family played many of the songs from it throughout the house after it came out, and one of my favorite songs of all time was the Money song from it. I really really want to learn the piece on piano, but I checked everywhere to no avail. Even the "complete Cabaret collection for vocal/piano", while amazing, only has the movie version of Money Money, not the revival version. And they are a bit different. Resolved Question: would you critique the first chapter of my novel?

Chapter 1 I wake up again disappointed, feeling empty. Chest feels constricted; and throat, tight. It’s hard to swallow. I look around my room: a portrait of us on the nightstand next to my bed, a couple movie posters hanging on the wall of movies I don’t like anymore, an almost empty bottle of J&B on the floor, which had spilled a spot onto the already pristine carpet. A dirty bed sheet acting as a makeshift curtain covers up the only window in the room. Light is just beginning to creep in through the edges. I’m blinking and feel the dread of another day. I should just go back to sleep. It is 6:04a.m., and I have to get to work by seven-thirty. If I miss another day, I know I will be fired. I mean, a person can only have so many grandmothers whose funeral they had to attend, right? Rent’s due in less than two weeks; I can’t miss work. The thought of having to fake feeling normal depresses me though. I pick up the bottle and finish the rest. I get through my morning routine with little enthusiasm. Shower is lukewarm, but it feels nice though and wakes me up a bit. But I still feel tired, and half awake. I was up till 4 a.m. Couldn’t sleep. Can never sleep. I can’t remember the last time I got a good-night sleep. Then again I have been in a constant dream like state for the past few months and so I guess I’m always asleep. Sportscenter is running nothing but baseball highlights, and I hate baseball. So fncking boring. I finish my bowl of cereal and place it in my overfilled sink. My eyes are completely dry and probably redder than that of a high-school kid found 3 a.m. at a Steak’n Shake. As I exit my apartment sunlight and causes further strain in my eyes, which also causes what I hope to god is not the beginning of a migraine. I take out my pair of Wayfarers and put them on. It takes my eyes a moment to adjust, but as I look around nothing seems real. I see the neighbors cars all parked in their spots, but there is no sign of human activity anywhere. Do people actually live in these other apartments? I wonder. What if they are just sets and props to keep me unaware that my life is in fact the premise of a movie that I am not aware of nor have given consent to? I’m delusional. Get a hold of yourself, James. I’m definitely no Truman. I get into my car and drive for work. Roads are empty for miles, but I still can’t outrun this dread. It follows me everywhere. It makes my head and thoughts foggy. I can’t think straight. I open my window and light a cigarette. Some stimulant should get me out of this funk. I turn on the radio and listen to some morning radio show about a girl who claims that the sexual abuse she suffered by her father as a child is the reason she is a porn star. The two hosts don’t really listen and just want to know what was the most number of di.cks she has taken in at one time. “Under my thumb” by the Rolling Stones plays on another station. I leave in on and turn it up a bit. I drive on and with the music still playing I take another drag and smile. I close my eyes and for a moment begin to daydream about times past. My car slowly creeps towards oncoming traffic. I continue to dream before a blaring truck horn jolts me back to reality. I violently turn the wheel and swerve back to my side but end up going off to the side of the road, my right-side wheels kicking up clouds of dirty. I finally regain control and get back onto the road before coming to a complete stop. “Fnck you asshole,” yells the angry trucker as he drives past, wanting me to admire his middle finger. My heart is pounding, but I don’t care. I take another drag and I continue driving. more

Resolved Question: what you think of the first chapter of my novel?

Chapter 1 I wake up again disappointed, feeling empty. Chest feels constricted; and throat, tight. Hard to swallow, still I try. I look around my room: a portrait of us on the nightstand next to my bed, a couple movie posters hanging on the wall of movies I don’t like anymore, an almost empty bottle of J&B on the floor, which had spilled a spot onto the already pristine carpet. A dirty bed sheet acting as a makeshift curtain covers up the only window in the room. Light is just beginning to creep in through the edges. I’m blinking and feel the dread of another day. I should just go back to sleep. It is 6:04a.m., and I have to get to work by seven-thirty. If I miss another day I will definitely be fired. I mean, a person can only have so many grandmothers whose funeral they had to attend, right? Rent’s due in less than two weeks; I can’t miss work. The thought of having to fake feeling normal depresses me though. I pick up the bottle and finish the rest. I get through my morning routine with little enthusiasm. Shower is lukewarm, but it feels nice though and wakes me up a bit. But I still feel tired, and half awake. I was up till 4 a.m. Couldn’t sleep. Can never sleep. I can’t remember the last time I got a good-night’s sleep. Then again I have been in a constant dream like state for the past few months and so I guess I’m always asleep. Sportscenter is running nothing but baseball highlights, and I hate baseball. So fncking boring. I finish my bowl of instant oatmeal and place it in my overfilled sink. Resolved Question: Keyboard Notation Help!?

Hi (: I have been playing a basic keyboard (no more then 37 keys) for about 4 years now. For the first 2 years I just had it for fun, but then I wanted to start making music and stuff. So the past 2 years I have been trying to learn things about it. I have a Casio Keyboard. Anyway my main question is. You know how when your in chorus or something and they have those scales that are like "All cows eat grass", or "Every good boy does fine"? For a keyboard what would be the letter for it on a music sheet? Like what would be the keyboard notation? Thanks a lot for your help. My birthday is coming up soon, and I was hoping to get a better keyboard/piano, but there would be no point if I barely knew anything lol! Thanks, Nooglie.So to make this LESS confusing. Resolved Question: Music tab anything? Please?

So my cousin and I are going to learn a few songs together. He's good at reading tab and I'm just starting to learn how to read sheet music, could someone please give me a link or reference to a tabs site for guitar? He plays an acoustic and I play a four string bass so a website with tabs for both would be good. The songs we wanna learn are mostly Avenged Sevenfold material.
