Resolved Question: What can I do to treat Sciatic pain in the left leg caused by a herniated disc?

I've had this sciatic pain since June 1st. I went to the ER to see if there was something wrong with my hip joint; they said it was sciatica, told me that I need rehabilitation therapy, and gave me a lot of drugs for the pain. Then I went to the chiropractor, he said I may have a herniated disc causing the sciatic pain (I had no money for the MRI, so it's a best guess at this point). The treatment for this kind of injury is helping my spine, and brings some relief to my sciatic pain - but more often then not, the pain is unbearable beyond normal tolerance and sanity. Is there anything else I can do at home to treat the pain or do I have to deal with it until my disc is healed? Please, I'm a mother of three young children and I can't be a good mom if I'm in bed all the time - I really need some advice on stretches, safely high doses for OTR pain medications, other medications I could ask my doctor about, or anything that has been helpful to someone else with a similar injury. Thank YouI have since ran out of the heavy medications, and the Chiropractic office I'm going to also does Acupuncture & Rehab. So I'm getting a lot of treatment there, but I can only go in once a week or less. Stuff I can do at home to relieve this pain will be most helpful.Oh, one more thing - the Chiropractor thinks it is a herniated disc, so he will not crack or adjust my back because that could injure the disc even more. Just decompression or gentle stretching of the spine is all he does. more

happens in court.. i have to plead the fifth even though i didnt put the charges and the state did pik it up and charged him.. domestic violence i am back with him working it out and he has been changing and take meds and counsleing but he still has the case open from the state... i havnt shown up for none of the court dates cus i juss want them to drop it but now he says i have to go to court and plead the fifth.. what exactly happns.. i have no lawyer nothin would i juss show up and talk to his lawyer and let him kno i am pleading the fith and tell the judge otr what im confused and juss wanna kno how the process goes!!! i guess if i dont testify they can use my statement to charge him.. but there are no witnesses but me and my statement.. if i do not plead the fifth what will happen if i dont show up.. will his case still be continued. or dropped since im with him and dont show up for court datesPS... Resolved Question: My husband is going OTR (truck driver) and will be gone 2 wks at a time. Advise on how to keep things alive.?

My husband is in school for his CDL right now and will graduate on May 7. In the 12 yrs that we have been together we have never been apart more then a couple days. For the first 2 years he was told he would be out 2 weeks at a time (maybe more if necessary). I am not sure how to handle this. We have 2 young boys (10 & 6) who are already upset by this and I can't say I am happy either. He is doing what is necessary to get a job since there just aren't any that he is qualified for in our area. Do you have any ideas how we can "keep it together" and I can help the kids adjust to the new situation? Any advise or personal stories would help. Thanks.I just wanted to add that he has already been offered a job with a great company that averages 2 weeks out 3-4 days home. He has looked for local jobs, but no one in the area will hire someone right out of school with no experience, not even to drive a garbage truck. more

About seven months ago my dad died. Now word has come that my mom is also in her final days and I'm having some mixed feelings about how this is going down. Sorry about the wall of text, but there's no short way to explain this. To start with, both of my parents were extremely abusive. My father was neglectful a gambling addict, a child molester, and spent his life as an OTR truck driver avoiding his family and blowing his paycheck eating steak on the road while his wife and kids literally dug through scraps of garbage back home looking for something to eat. Mom wasn't much better though, violent beatings were common and about all I can say about that is those little orange Hot Wheels tracks are a mother ******. My sister says that I always had a sensitive nature and because of that (whether she saw it as weakness or what), I was singled out the most for getting the beatings whenever she was frustrated. Now when dad died, we packed the family up and drove cross country to Indiana from Florida for the Funeral. I didn't really feel anything for the guy, except gratitude he would never be able to hurt anyone again. No big deal. With my mom, I cannot afford that, but one of my sisters flew me up there so that we could all be together for her last birthday. We were there, she knew we were there, and I went home. However, I won't be able to go up for the funeral. I simply cannot afford it. The funny part is that I hold much less animosity towards my mom, than my dad. I can at least see where her action came from, if not condone them. She had the struggle of raising six kids with a deadbeat husband who's crimes aren't even half listed here. I even felt a tinge of regret that she will finally be passing and I would not see her again. So is it more appropriate that she got to see us (and me, particular) and I not go to the funeral, or should it have been her funeral we went to? Also, is all of this a sign that I might finally be able to put some of the past behind me?Zuzu, thanks for the non-answer. It's very non-helpful... more

ok this is going to be long.... in advance I am sorry. ok I am going to start with grade 8. We'll call him Phil. So there was this guy named Phil who was madly in love with me and I guess i liked the attention so I went along with it but the one day when he finally asked me out and I didn't accept he startedcrying and smashing things. I ened up going out with him and then just cut it off about a month later. about 6 months later I realized that I actually did have feelings for him. And i went crazy,, emailing him and texting him and calling him and it was just out of control. I don't know why I did it. Figures that I was too late though because he was already over me and stated that he liked nother girl. He broke my heart thought by telling me to leave im alone and go away. But when he wa crazy about me I never told him to go away. I was never rude to him like that. Now in grade 10 I liked this boy for a while. Finally we started dating and for the ame reason as Phil i broke t off because I was "bored". Now its been 6 months and I am crazy for him again. I don't know what wrong with me. He was also crzy for me 6 months ago andI killed it! I dont know why I ended it wit him and I am just so confused. Now he likes this otr gir who is just stunning I think and he won't talk to me (well he'll just talk to me as a friend). I think he likes her though im not sure. Not going to go into great detail but im afraid if I get an mri when my back isnot at its worse, it wont show how messed up I really am, which is most of the time. Ugh..its kind of weird, when i'm "stiff" the pain is less but ROM is zilch, when the pain in my back and the residual pain goin down my leg etc is at the worse my rom is better(which is still not normal but better)..On top of that I have,I guess you would say "mild scoliosis" from mid to lower back, I know im messed up and my condition is severe, i'm just not good at communicating that when i am talking to a doctor, not good at descriptive words etc, just a lack of communication basically. I hurt my back jun09, havent worked since oct, was fired in nov as a result of the distress caused by working in pain which led to irratic behavior. I never told anyone what happened,was afraid I would be found negelgant and fired plus it wasnt as bad initially. [I drove otr trk] so they just thought i lost my mind or was actin different for no good reason. Since I didnt report it, its as if it never happened, especially according to certain statutes. I did tell my old dptchr at the beginning of loa what happened and was the reason for my behavior via email, which is why i was terminated in nov(said by me emailing her it was harassement,funny that 1st email didnt come up in the termination meeting So..took a loa in oct, fired in nov, of course no uei when the adjudicator sees on the sep notice I was fired for "harassing" a female employee..so, ive been outta work since oct, spent my entire savings of 6000, no income, no med insur. Dont have med insur/money because I cant work,cant work cuz i need to see a doctor but cant, cant see a doctor cuz I have no insur er $.. I have an appt with ss office in a few weeks about possible ssi(splmntl, am only in my 20's, cant and not ready to retire, just need some med help..), i dont know what to tell them I was readin that if there is lack of initial med proof, u could be denied, I havent been able to go to a specialist yet so no med records for them, they send u to 1 of their doctors? what if the guy at the ss office wont even do that? I truly am screwed up, most doctors are like the one i went to a few months ago, condescending, is that how the ss dr will be, will i be able to get an mri? should i get one somehow before i go? Can I get medicaid while im waiting? What do i need to have with me and what do i need to tell them at the ss office to ensure i get the help i need and am not turned down from get go.Anyone know how this all works? Any help plz..Like right now I got pain goin down my leg,Im positive its a pinched nerve, and itll stay like this for 2,3 weeks sometimes but then ease off for a while and each time i reinjur it, it sseems like its longer and worse each time, is actually startin to go up the middle of my spine too..so, will an mri still show what im feelin now(which is how i am more times then not) if when the test is performed im not in pain at that time? sore, sore and whenever I am in pain like this, it fks with my brain/mind too, makes me feel insane/crazy basically, plz. no ignorant answers thx alot more

He lives in Illinois and will put you as a referral if he gets in. He has 16 years OTR with no accidents or tickets. And he has haze-mat He tried K&B transfer but because there is a proven false report on his DAC because when he was working for JB Hunt his wife was in the hospital and he told them this and JB came and got the truck. So he has it on there for job abandonment. He never abandoned his job. So he hired a DAC attorney and now his side of the story is on his DAC. So now he needs a high paying trucking job and he doesn't care where it is. He needs great pay without the recruiters empty promises that never get filled. i have been using colored pencils, sharpie markers, and crayola markers for the past couple of months to draw graffiti in notebooks, and everyone i know says that it is better that some graffiti they've seen on buildings. so anyway my grandma is an artist, so i'm asking her for graffiti markers for christmas. now... what should i ask for. i want to be able to do tagging and have there be those really cool drip marks, what kind of marker do i need to do that,( i know the paper has to be verticle). i also want other kinds of regular markers to color in and outline my work. and lastly i want to be able to put a little white line inside the words seperating the black outline and the inside color. what kind of marker do i need in order to do that??? oh yeah, and what do you think are better??? I can go back to work in the oilfield, driving a tanker, transporting drilling fluids, and pulling leases, which I have experience doing. or I can take a job hauling cattle. I have no experience, but they will train me. I will be out several days at a time, and with the oilfield job, I'm home every night. I believe hauling cattle should pay more, but I don't think there are any benefits like in the oilfield. So, if you have a background in either field, let me know what you think. I have only been driving a tractor trailer for a year, & have only been with the one company. I was laid off a few months ago, but they are about to hire me back. Now I have this cattle hauling job to consider. more

I've heard so many people say ambiguous things like "you either love it or hate it" or something similar, but I'm getting ready to go to school to get my CDL and hopefully become an OTR trucker (hopefully not gone for TOO many days at a time), and I could really use some input from actual truckers describing your typical day-to-day, or maybe just what an average days is like for a trucker. Is it hard to sleep in a truck? How many days can I expect to be gone at a time? Will I get seriously bored on the road? How much sleep can I expect to get? Won't my back kill after about a week of this? Is the pay really worth it? Is it a very high stress job? Questions like this I'd like to know. So please, if there are any truckers reading this, please fill me in and let me know what I'm getting into. I am currently going through financial hardships (bankruptcy ch7, foreclosure, etc) due to me being let go by my two jobs at the time. I am seeking a career in OTR trucking; however, most of the places I have found seem to be scams or have horrible reviews. I have asked around a bit and I get different responses from people. I am working but getting burned out. I have a wife and 3 kids. So if I do this will I ever see them? I am interested in getting into truck driving. I was wondering if anyone knows of any companies, in the Dallas, Fort Worth area, that you will train you and place you with a company that does regional instead of OTR trucking for the contract period? I have a family and don't want to be gone for long, long periods of time. I would like to be home weekends. Can't afford truck driving school though but OTR really isn't a big option for me. Resolved Question: I miss my husband so much...I hate it that he is driving OTR now.?

Before my husband went OTR he usually treated me like a queen. then my brother cheated and because my husband was his best friend and i was his wife's best friend so they kind of dragged us into it. needless to say their stuff started affecting us. and pretty soon it seemed like we were fighting alot. then my husband got passed over for the supervisor position they begged him to apply for and promised him he would get because my brothers new girlfriend was a supervisor there and they gave the position to my brother instead. so my husband lost his temper and quit and the only job he could find was OTR so he went for it. thing is we did not completely make the peace i needed to make, until after he left. and now i don't feel safe. he has never been overly emotional as far as spouting love poems or anything like that. it was always more physical for us. a hug or a touch a kiss or a look. or little things like making me a special dinner or taking me out or flowers. he always made me feel safe. but where he is now he tells me he misses me and our kids that he loves me and for a little while i feel better. but then a little time passes or i call him and he sounds too exhausted to talk and i barely get a small i love you. i am praying he makes it home for my birthday but i am scared he wont and i need his physical presence for at least a few days to see how he feels about me so i can calm down and stop being such a spaz...are there any wives who have their husbands OTR that can give me advice about how to deal till he gets back. because i do not want to stress him out with my weird insecurities while he is out there trying to support his family.OTR means over the road. and i have no doubt that he loves me i just need him here for a few days to help heal the hurts that happened before he left. and we tried to stay out of my brothers little problem he caused... but in thier own ways they cornered us and we were both too nice to tell them to leave us out of it. and to the one who didnt get the question, learn to read.look girl i know there will be times i am lonely. that is not the point...i am trying to deal with the fact that the things were up in the air when my husband started the job and to feel better i need him home. and based on how you worded your answer the implication on how you know these married truckers is ugly. if they are married leave them alone! thank God i can trust my husband. more

I have my CDL w/ hazmat, my problem is after driving 3 straight years of OTR, my mother became ill and I was fired for wanting to stay home with her. The company said they received 3 "call-in complaints" over a 2 yr. time and choice to end my career with them. But that's all behind me now. It has been 3 yrs. since then that I have been out of work and now want to start back driving OTR (over the road). I'm finding it very hard to get hired again because, I have not drove within most if not all, truck companies insurance time frame for hiring. Not even the big company will call me (they send me e-mails and letters but still claim insurance problems). So does someone know a way to be able to get hired with a 3 yr. unemployment time? By the way, my mother is 87yrs. old and doing much better. I'm 56yrs old. I do have one (1) accident that is still pending; where a driver of a car ran a RED LIGHT and I collided into the car, one passenger was hurt bad and is suing my and the company. That case is not settled yet. But I have no other legal cases, accidents, or violations against me. This was a non-preventable accident on my part. I feel so bad for the passengers, even now today while this accident hangs over me for hiring. I love the trucking industry, I have been in it since 1980 when I first grad. from a trucking school, after a 12 week home/driving course. For a while, "10 years, I left trucking and had to go back to a vo-tech school (The yr. 2003) for a 320 hours refresher course after doing 10 yrs. of home remodeling/rehab construction work. And stayed within trucking up until mother got sick in 2006. Three years is a long time to have to wait to get back to a job you love and I don't want any truck insurance company trying to cause me to have to look in another industry for work. I know someone out there can assist... All my life I've had sinus and respiratory problems. I'm in my 40's and they are progressively getting worse. My sinuses completely clog up at night so I'm forced to breath through my nose and snore so loud that I wake myself up. I've been taking Clariton for allergies, Rhinocort (at the direction of my regular MD), and the occasional sinus congestion meds. I went to see an OTR doctor yesterday who was no help whatsoever. He stuck a long camera thingy in my nose and proceeded to tell me my sinuses look fine and I should go to a sleep study about the snoring. Okay, so I've been crazy and imagining I can't breath through my nose (especially at night?)... I THINK NOT! By the way, I have a deviated septum. Hello drivers, I have been driving truck for going on 10 years and I must say im proud to drive a truck and take great pride in my work. The bulk of my experience has been in the oilfield hauling Frac sand and water. A majority of this type of work is on the highway going from town to the field and then the rest of it is off road where as you know chains are required in bad weather and we throw alot of iron! lol So my dilemma is that I have recently decided to try working on a Drilling rig and have decided that I either wont stay on the rig because I dont like the work or my rig will get stacked out because of new government policies on drilling. So my questions are when I go back to driving truck I will look into OTR driving if I cant find another job driving in the oilfield. 1. What types companies pay the best? Walmart? who? for a man with a family 2. Flat bed or box trailer or hauling fuels and things like that? 3. As a driver breaking out into OTR what kinds of things should I look for and avoid while looking for a job? 4. What would you say the median wage is for OTR drivers per payhalf? 5. Ok...bare with me while I try to explain my problem in as few words as possible. 5 years ago, my "ex" left me and my kids with nothing. Without explaining our relationship, he was very manipulative and controlling and ended up with primary custody of the kids in summer of 2007. Please, please, don't reply with any nasty messages about losing my kids!!! He had money and confidence, neither of which I had because of the marriage. Anyway, for the last year and a half, all three of my kids have been struggling with his relationship with his girlfriend, and the mother of their half sister. My oldest son (now 17) turned to drugs. I found out last summer, but he went into treatment and overcame it. Well, over the summer, he began having serious issues with his father, again. His father started drinking again, which causes him to become extremely controlling and emotionally abusive. My son got the brunt of the abuse! Being a senior in high school, his dad went and pulled him out of a movie in front of his friends because he didn't know one of the kids. He locked him in his bedroom, took away phones, lights and even went as far as putting patio furniture in his window well so he couldn't get out. He even went as far as telling my son's girlfriend and her father that he cheated on her. So...my son relapsed (though I didn't know this right away). After a week of torment, my son got some help and advice from the school liaison, eventually his father kicked him out and he's now living with me. After two weeks, I woke my son up to find that he had OD'd on some otr medicine. That's when I heard of all the stuff my son had been doing since those last weeks with his father up until I took him to the hospital. He admitted to me that he had been so hooked, he went as far as taking my prescriptions (which are now locked up), and even got so desperate, he used a bunch of nicotine patches to see if that would do anything for him. Yes...my son IS getting help!!!!! He's been drug free thus far, but I do know it's going to be a struggle for some time, so I continue to monitor him as much as I can without smothering him. Now....here's my problem: His fathers girlfriend was kicked out of their house about two weeks before my son. One week later, my son found out she was moved back in. He's still angry, hurt and feels betrayed. I've had him seeing a counselor once a week. Now that we're coming close to the holidays, his father has been calling me trying to get me to make my son call him. I can't stress enough just how much talking I do with my son and am always trying to encourage him to talk to his dad!!! I never, ever demean his father or support his not calling him!!!!! But, I don't MAKE him do it! I kept telling his dad that instead of using me as the middle man, he should send our son an e-mail to tell him some of the things he was telling me to tell him. Like....I'm sorry.....I thought I was doing a good job....I didn't realize it was wrong, etc. Finally, tonight, his dad asked for his e-dress and sent him an e-mail. It wasn't long, he didn't really apologize but it was definitely heartfelt. (My son asked me to read it, I swear) Considering I know the man, I could definitely tell he put alot into the, albeit short, message. Just saying things like, "I miss you" "we would all like to see you for Christmas", stuff like that. However, there was one sentence he tossed in there that upset my son. Something to the effect of "I have to accept that you will have to learn things on your own the hard way." That bothered my son, thinking it was his dad's way of not owning up to any responsibility. Since then, I've talked to my "ex" who is now mad at me because he knows my son has gotten the e-mail and hasn't called or replied. I've been talking to my son and trying to get him to understand that he needs to at least write his father back. If he doesn't want to get into any long conversation about his feelings, he should at least acknowledge his fathers attempt to talk with him, even if it means just writing and telling him he's just not ready to talk to or see his dad, grandma or uncle (they too did some harsh things to him). I truly talked to him to get him to see why he should do it. Explain that he can't keep hiding. While I'm still working on it, I've now had his father and another friend of mine tell me that, being my son is still a minor, I need to force him to reply! That being I'm the parent here, if he refuses to at least reply to the e-mail, I should threaten to take away his computer or ground him, or something like that?!!!!! Is this right?!! After a few more times of talking to him, he did eventually tell me he would think about it and that maybe he'll do it before he goes to bed. But.....is it really right of me to force my 17 year old to talk to his dad who he feels hurt him? I'm stuck!!! I mean, if it were me, and I was the one he didn't want to talk to, I wouldn't feel anyTHANK YOU SO MUCH!!! The answers here have helped ease so much emotional stress!!! Man I'm at the end of my rope. Now I really don't know what to do. I'm a truck driver. That no company will touch. as far as otr. I have two accidents. On my dac report. And they are no really accidents they were little incidents.1. I didn't turn out far enough and my back trl tires rolled across the grass leaving a muddy tire mark there the grass. And second I had backed inside of a warehouse, were the dock inside, and while i was leaving, the door of the trl got caught behind the frame of the warehouse. Ripping the trl door off the hinges. Now in both deals no cops were called out and no insurance was involved. And I was let go. And on my dac it says I had 2 accidents. And that I was fire because of them. By the way the company was Werner Ent. The company I was working for before Werner Ent. was American Eagle Lines. I only finished the training with them, and jumped ship and want to Werner Ent. "Man Do I Regret That." So American Eagle put on my dac report that i was fired also. So now I can get a job anywhere. I'm in the San Antonio area. Can you guys give me some advise, or at least lead me in the right direction. I don't know where else to turn. and I have this cdl. All this money sent. And i can't even you it. Hi could any body tell me what they think my problem is ie what kind of mental ill ness it is ? First i get really depressed for days and dont ant to talk to people then a few days later i cant stop talking and then the next day some one will speak to me and i shout at them and wont answer them back.I some times go to someones house and wen im there talking to then i get really paranoid thinking there thinking bad things about me , then wen i leave there house all the way home im thinking they think im bad or something.Some times wen im at home alone i get paranoid about the out side world and wen i hear something out side my flat door a slight sound i run to the door peeping through the spy hole.I some times speak to people and if i start arguing with them because i argue with most people i really want to punch thier face in a voilent way.Most of the time i sit down sometimes for hours just thinking about any thing for hours , but i also love doing university level physics and mathematics problems i can do them all day long, i can also learn the basics of any language very fast or teach my self things fast any academic material.Also sometimes wen i seak to people not all of the time but sometimes they cant understand what im saying like its riddle .And i never ever smile or laugh i never have done i just dont laugh at any thing people think im really serious and i think to my self wen their laughing you thick monkey how could you laugh at that , whats funny about it?And last i sometimes wen i have bad days i see flashes or things moving at the corner of my field of vision otr maybe close my eyes and see horror faces, example a devil face things like that.Then for approx 2 days im ok , and most days i talk to my self not full blown conversations but mild conversations , and some times i laugh out loud . My doctor told me i had a condition but i dont believe him what does any one here think i think its worse than what he say it is, im a big hairy man i can handle it what do you think i have? I am currently in the medical field and I was planning on going to a truck driver school near me in July to get my class A CDL license so I could become a OTR truck driver. However, a pen pal of mines who currently dates a trucker, has been giving me horror stories about it since gas prices have gotten so high, saying that trucking companies are cutting back on the speed of the rigs so you can't get more miles, making the driver pay for fuel if the truck is running idle, stuff like that. It has me concerned enough that I'm thinking this might not be a good time to be a trucker. I figured this might be a good way to find out how it really is out there right now, and if this is a good time to work for a major trucking company. Any help would be appreciated. more

I received my CDL class A with Tankers, doubles-triples, and Hazmat endorsements in March. Since then I have applied to at least 50 companies trying to get a company driver job and they are all requiring at least 2 years experience. With this said I feel now that my only option left is to do OTR with a company like Swift, England, JB Hunt, CRST, etc. However I am really concerned about getting joining a company that I will not benefit from and will hate with a passion.
